Spencer: Durbin Hearing to Fuel the Muslim Victimhood Myth

In Human Events today, I discuss the PC charade of the Durbin hearing:

The FBI reports that anti-Jewish hate crimes are nearly eight times more common than anti-Muslim attacks—yet Sen. Richard Durbin (D.-Ill.) announced last week that he was going to hold a Senate hearing not on the resurgence of anti-Semitism, but on “anti-Muslim bigotry.”
For the truth-adverse Left, it was just another day at the office.

Compounding the irony was the fact that as Durbin announced his plans for this orgy of Muslim victimhood posturing, Islamic jihadists set off a bomb at a bus stop in Jerusalem, murdering at least one woman and wounding 30, while other Islamic jihadists opened fire on and killed two Christians who had committed the crime of attending a church in Pakistan. And don’t ask Egyptian Christian Ayman Anwar Mitri what he heard about this: Muslims in Egypt cut off his ear last week for the crime of having an affair with a Muslim woman (which he denies). Islamic law forbids Muslim women to marry non-Muslim men, and so as his Muslim attackers severed Mitri’s ear, they told him: “We have applied the law of Allah, now come and apply your law.”

No doubt Durbin’s Islamic supremacist puppet masters told him nothing about any of this. They were intent on making sure he retaliated for the hearings recently conducted by Rep. Peter King (R.-N.Y.), who himself bowed to politically correct pressure and dropped several witnesses that he had originally announced his intention to call, including ex-Muslim human rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali and terror analyst Walid Phares.

Durbin’s retaliatory hearings were unnecessary in the first place. King, after all, gave a prime platform at his hearings to the weepy Rep. Keith Ellison (D.-Minn.), whose pilgrimage to Mecca was paid for with $13,350 from the Muslim American Society, the Muslim Brotherhood’s chief operating arm in the U.S. Ellison used the bully pulpit King gave him to paint a lurid picture of Muslim victimhood, all the while saying nothing (of course) about the sharp increase in jihad terror plots in this country during the last two years.

Durbin can’t top Ellison, no matter which Muslim leader he brings in and coaches on how to shed crocodile tears....

These democRATS show their "bravery" by advocating killing our innocent unborn children everyday but are unable to stand up to America's real enemies who are trying to destroy us! Infact they are traitors in a time of war. Woe to you who call evil good and good evil! America must wake up and repent and clean up its house (and senate) in 2012 or it may become too late.

A very foolish man. As a career (now retired) police officer, I also know what the crime stats are. Acts of hatred against muslims in this country are very, very small. Acts of violence against Jews far surpasses this stat. Even acts of hatred against Christians is larger than this. Mr. Durban shot from the hip, and missed the target. But remember a shot fired that misses the mark may hit an innocent bystander. I think the Senator should be sent a bill to pay for the time and expenses of this committee. Congress needs to solve the debt crisis before heading out to do something that has no real reason for doing it.

Also as a retired officer, I found it interesting that within hours after it was determined that the 9-11 attacks were committed by Muslims,the Sheriff and several police chiefs within our county put out a list of all synagogues throughout the cities and the county.

The issued list called for checks on those synagogues only and not churches or any other religious institution. This list designation spoke volumes as to what law enforcement see as what may be the most endangered religion even though they do not openly state it (political correctness).

FOX news showed of photo of Durbin with two Jihad supporters. One was an unindited co-conspirator in the HLF who also held a fundraiser for a suicide bomber.The photo was sent to FOX by Steve Emerson and the investigative project.If Durbin is associating with Jihad supporters the hearing have no crediblity.

The whining going on in the Durbin Hearings on C-Span3 at this time is almost overwhelming .

Their is no question that the Durbin hearing is a great propaganda tool for groups like CAIR and several other Islamic groups. They are trying at this time to discredit the statistics on attacks on Muslims as not accurate.

Actually, it's even worse than this implies. Mitri was initially beaten by a Muslim mob for renting an apartment to a pair of women who turned out to be prostitutes—whom, incidentally, he asked to move out as soon as he heard of the charges against them.

The people who beat him then had a neighbor lure one of the women, Sabrin, back. Sabrin was then brutally beaten and coerced into claiming Mitri had had an affair with her.

After that, Mitri was abducted again, was stabbed several times, had his ear cut off, and was threatened with murder.

While Muslims here in the West are busy trumping up "hate crimes", they are busy in Dar-al-Islam trumping up accusations against Christians and other Infidels.

Durbin’s retaliatory hearings were unnecessary in the first place.

No, but as soon as I heard about King's hearings on "Islamic radicalization", I *knew* there would be hearings on "Muslim victimization". It was entirely predictable—and might have been less harmful if Rep. King had made a proper case at his own hearings. As it was, King's hearings looked weak or unnecessay, while Durbin's hearings are likely to be as theatrical as possible.

Perhaps Durbin might consider inviting Rep. Keith Ellison back, for a repeat performance of the act he presented to such effect at the King hearings...sarc/off

It is sad and unfortunate to see a Catholic leader like Cardinal McCarrick who during his testimony somehow separates the tenants of Islam from the jihad ideology that permeates the Islamic trilogy through the Quran,Sira,and hadiths, he also supports the mega Mosque at Ground Zero. Interesting to note that he has become friends with Muslim leaders which we of course know that Islam disallows friendships with non Muslims.

The looming question for me during these Durbin Hearings is, will anyone address the issue of why Muslims commit jihad? Will anyone ask the question, what do they learn to commit Jihad from? Why do fundamental Muslims put allah before their allegiance to the nation that we live in? Will they address what is happening in EU Countries as the Muslim population grows in greater percentages?

Not likely,so don't hold your breath. Clearly the Dhimmi Durbin hearings are coming off as a love fest with Muslims among the participants.

I have regularly asked the question, "Do you know any Muslims who are being abused or mistreated in America?" of my friends, family, and even business associates when the occasion arises. The look I always get from asking that question is akin to asking someone if he's heard the Martians are coming to take us away tonight. No one in the probably 5+ years I've been asking that question has ever told me yes. And Robert is right. In his article he says Americans aren't stupid. And we don't like when someone cries wolf regarding abuse. It makes us angry that someone would lie about it when there are people who really are treated badly.

I think these hearings may have some unintended consequences that Turban Durbin (Apollo, I love that!) did not foresee. Incessant whining is a real turnoff to all the Americans that I know.

Well there it is, clearly a 2 hour love fest with Islam and those in the dhimmi world on the left. Not a single witness who may be critical of Islamic practices, it was all ignored. Arizona Senator Kyle noted some terrorist attacks or attempted attacks but no one addressed the growing problem within America at all. It was so bland that it reflected nothing, there where no challenging questions or follow up questions asked in the testimony presented at all.

Quite frankly the entire hearing was a complete bore listening to these dhimmis' participate in this bland propaganda show that produced any substance at all on how if effects America.

Meanwhile the attacks by Muslims will no doubt continue and increase in America this years as they did last year.

Senator Kyle did ask a question about why one of the participants websites encourages Muslims to get an attorney when being questioned by law enforcement. She stood by her argument even though such a request sends a message that law enforcement is not to be trusted-- no follow up there as well---very boring on every front.

Yes indeed. And truth-avoidance is a sure sign that for the Left, changeable preferences trump bedrock principles such as truth, freedom of speech, and liberty. They then use all the ifs, ands, and buts they can muster to argue that the reverse is true, with a few choice slurs thrown in for good measure. Perverse!

They are one of the groups who comprise,
"the existers, whistling in no-man's-land."
They will get their come-uppance in due time and wonder why it somehow happened.

I watched most of the hearing and it went better then I thought it would, thanks to Sen Kyl who asked some tough questions. There also were not many Senators there by the end of the hearing, only Durbin and Kyl were left.

Dick Durban and what he represents is a perfect example of the enormous problems we have in both Washington and our country. Obviously, he is a product of union and inner city politics at it's worst. There is no question that he would screw the rest of the country to save his sorry hide.

The pie chart for the Middle East/North Africa -- the core Islamic region -- shows the most unfree area in the world. However, one country included in the Middle East/North Africa pie chart is listed as "free." Can you guess which one that is? (Hint: It's not Islamic.)

The growth of Islam means the death of civil liberties. It's time to resist, not sell out like Durbin.
