Muslims and non-Muslim useful idiots like Zogby characterize any such critical examination as "Islamophobia," but this is just a manipulative coinage designed to stifle any such criticism, which would have the effect of letting the jihadists proceed unchallenged.

Did you catch that? "Islamophobia," by which Zogby means a critical look at how jihadists use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify violence and supremacism, is worse than repeatedly inciting to mass murder, as al-Awlaki has done.
On one level, al-Awlaqi, from his cave hideout in Yemen, can only prey off of alienation where it exists. Adopting the persona of a latter-day Malcolm X (though he seems not to have read the last chapters of the "Autobiography" or learned the lessons of Malcolm's ultimate conversion), he appears street smart, brash, self-assured and assertive - all of the assets needed to attract the lost or wounded souls looking for certainty and an outlet for their rage. Like some parasites, al-Awlaqi cannot create his own prey. He must wait for others to create his opportunities, which until now have been isolated and limited - a disturbed young man here, an increasingly deranged soldier there.Islamophobia, on the other hand, if left unchecked, may serve to erect barriers to Muslim inclusion in America, increasing alienation, especially among young Muslims. Not only would such a situation do grave damage to one of the fundamental cornerstones of America's unique democracy, it would also simultaneously rapidly expand the pool of recruits for future radicalisation....
Note that Zogby is writing this in a Pakistani paper. Pakistan is almost entirely Muslim. There is no "Islamophobia" there, and Muslims experience no alienation. And yet jihad activity is quite common there. Now, why is that?

Miriam, James Zogby is a Lebanese American Maronite Christian. He is founder and president of the Arab American Institute in Washington, D.C..
He is probably best known as a pollster—especially of Muslim and Arab communities. His work has been frequently cited, especially since 9/11.
His work often has a strong Muslim bias. He can generally be regarded as an "islamochristian"—someone who has so accepted the legacy of dhimmitude that he is actually a full apologist for Islam.

Check out his Wikipedia profile. You'll see that he has a long history of association with Islamoleftist and pro-Palestinian causes, and so this piece is consistent with his pro-Arab biases.
James Zogby was born in 1945 and has the portfolio typical of the campus anti-war Liberals who came of age during the Sixties and Seventies, and who have subsequently come to dominate the Leftist narrative that has produced the disastrous anti-Western liberal arts curricula in this country. Also, if we look at recent Pew polls
- 82%of Pakistanis recommend stoning for adulterers
- 76% of Pakistanis support the killing of apostates
Thus, without any alienation at all - radicalization of this nation is almost complete. Also, if you see debt levels, this country will not survive a few months, without American direct assistance and indirect loan waivers, loans etc.
So, why the radicalization - perhaps, the ideology is to blame.
Does it work the other way around?
Do repeated terrorist attacks (in this I include running people down with cabs when the cab driver explains he was motivated by Islam), erosion of Western values to appease Muslims, the introduction of Islam into school curriculae and force-feeding halal slaughtered meat to schoolchildren and unwitting restaurant customers, radicalise otherwise tolerant Westerners into becoming vehement Islamophobes?

The sentence is closer to the truth is you take out "Islamophobia and those who promote it", and instead put in "An Uncle Dhimmi like Zogby".
James Zogby is someone who puts his ethnicity and wallet ahead of his inherited religion, which is Christian, from Lebanon. He sides with Muslims who murderously say, "First the Saturday people, then the Sunday people."
It should disgust any self-respecting, logical mind to act in obviously irrational ways that Zogby seems to either not care or even be aware of while pursuing his anti-American agenda for some ill-defined, contradictory and meaningless pan-Arabism.

In the U.S., people have the right to believe whatever they want, but they are still expected to abide by the laws of the land. Even satan worshipers are free to worship satan, extol evil, foster lust and selfishness and inordinate power. However, if satan-worshipers commit crimes of rape or murder or robbery or destruction of (others') property they are prosecuted for those crimes under U.S. law. People are free to believe in the Mormon way of life, but if they are found to be guilty of polygamy, they are sentenced for the crime of polygamy. Muslims are also free to believe in Islamic principles, but if they harass or rape or murder or plunder (theft, robbery, extortion, etc.) or kidnap women or force underage marriage or assault women or abuse anyone for being non-Muslim they should also be prosecuted for those crimes under U.S. law and Sharia law should have no bearing on their conviction or sentencing. Equality under the law is exactly how we "get along" in this country.

The reason I started with the prefix
"In the Name of God Most Gracious Most Merciful"
is to distingiush the quoted verses from verses in surah or chapter 9 which does not start with that prefix.
