Dhaka, Bangladesh (CNN) -- Dozens of people were injured in Bangladesh as riot police clashed with thousands of Islamists protesting women's rights, authorities and witnesses said.The protesters damaged buses and cars Monday, setting several on fire, while police used clubs and tear gas to disperse the Islamists, who were wearing skullcaps and burial cloths.
"We'll die for the cause of Islam, but (will) not allow the government to disrespect (the) Quran," one protester shouted during the demonstration near the national mosque in downtown Dhaka.
The government recently announced its National Women Development Policy 2011, which ensures women expanded rights in property and education. The protesters said the policy is against the Quran.
Fazlul Huq Amini, leader of a coalition of Islamic groups called the Islami Oikya Jote, asked his followers to take to the streets to protest the policy. Amini said the Quran defines how much property a woman should inherit, and the government should not allow women more than that.
"It's against the principle of the Quran, and we'll resist it at any cost," Amini said.
Thousands of students in madrassas, or Islamic schools, carried sticks and logs as they marched the streets. Protests also took place in the southern port city of Chittagong and several other areas. Business activities ceased, and schools remained closed because of fears of violence....
The government said it had done nothing against the Quran. "Amini is misleading the people," said government spokesman Mohammad Shahjahan Miah....
Amini, a former lawmaker, said the protests will continue until the policy is scrapped....

Fun with Half-Truths:
They tell you they respect women's rights. They expect you to project your own understanding of that term onto what they're saying.
They might even throw in an anecdote that seems to conform to that understanding, or one describing a situation where women's rights in 7th-century Arabia were actually deplorable enough that Sharia constituted an improvement at the time. The world has passed them by since then.
What they don't tell you is that they "respect women's rights" only within the limits of Sharia: anything beyond that is an excess to them, not a right.
To keep up the charade, of course, the apologist has to keep Sharia from ever being soundly defined, least of all where prying infidel eyes note something in conflict with human rights. Standard operating procedure: throw out some more anecdotes as a red herring to avoid discussing the texts, traditions, and observable impact in the Muslim world.
Which could set up another chapter of Fun with Half-Truths: Wacky, Wild, Shape-Shifting Sharia.
I remember meeting an ex-Nazi German man long time ago, who seems like such a nice guy -that's because he had left Nazism and felt sorry about what he had done; he was a young lad at that time. Were you born into that system or were you a western gal who converted? If you were a convert when did you start to see the more unsavory aspects of Islam? If you were a convert how did those with a vested interest in converting you lure you in? Since you are no longer a Muslim how did you get out and what is your relationship with your family?

Isabella, I was 'born' a Muslim but the moment I cross into the West at 17 years old, my eyes and mind really open to the sense of freedom I never felt before. To make the long story short, my journey to embracing Christ is a long one where I stayed on the surface as a Muslim due to my false sense of loyalty and guilt to my family and community. I blinded my eyes and mind to the truths because to think about or see the truths would led to rejection of such evil, thus of Islam and I could not leave my family completely yet. Although I entered a church for the first time in Canada at 19 years old, I became mostly an off and on Atheist, especially in the ,later years of my life, especially due to my study and involvement in Socialism. Nevertheless, freedom is what I sought for since I was a confused child, and now, I found my true freedom in my Lord Jesus Christ.
Oh Katharina, I know what you mean, girlfriend. Jesus Christ is my everything. I can't imagine leaving my family. That must have been so hard. But when your soul yearns for truth you have to go down that path. I'm so happy for you that you did.
I have wracked my brain for years trying to figure out why Muslim women would embrace Islam if they had the chance to get away. I understand it would be near impossible to do so if you were still in a Muslim majority country where the men are so committed to their sexual "rights" that they don't mind killing any woman who goes against the code. And I understand that girls like Sarah and Amina Sayed here in America were terrified of their father for all the threats he made against them in the name of Islam, and then eventually made good his threats when he killed them. But it seems to me that Muslim girls grow up with the same hopes that Christian girls have, to be with somebody they love, get married and have children and build a life together. It seems that at some point Muslim women must accept their lot in life and then turn their hearts as cold and hard as the men when they are willing to hold down their daughters so the men in their family can kill them if they somehow dishonor them. I'm sure not every Muslim woman is like that but I've read so many stories about the ones that are that it really establishes a pattern that disturbs me to my core.

his recollections of his time at university when - son of relatively secularised Egyptian Muslim parents - he fell in with jihad recruiters.
I remember this, from his account of the 'preaching' of Aymenn Zawahiri:

In connection with that, it is worth quoting something striking from another article in which Victor Hanson reviewed Tawfik Hamid's "Inside Jihad":
'Hamid also makes the intriguing observation that “the proliferation of the hijab is strongly correlated with increased terrorism…. Terrorism became much more frequent in such societies as Indonesia, Egypt, Algeria, and the U.K. after the hijab became prevalent among Muslim women living in those communities.” '
I would ask only one question, in relation to that observed correlation: is the forcing of more and more women to wear the slave rag in ever more enveloping forms, to be understood as being a cause or a symptom of increasing jihad-mindedness in a given population of Muslims?

But make no mistake. We watch. We watch closely. The first pair of leather socks and slippers in a skullcap and dress that shows up in my neighborhood is the star of a new movie directed by me. I know what I'm looking for now; I know who is being prosyletized, or what bags of things being carried means. If you ever bring that hatred around any of us laid back, corrupt, agnostic, over-sexualized, immodest, loud-mouth American kuffar, you will learn what we are hiding behind the peppermint.

I have thought about that. It seems since they have no value beyond breeding, the women learn that force and fear and domination are characteristics prized by the men. As a result, showing these flashes of masculine bluster and warcry and little green headbands is all they have to show they have any value beyond their dowries.
