When even a smug, self-righteous, left-wing jerk like Bill Maher "gets it," it makes me feel kind of positive like.
If Maher is not careful he'll soon find out just how dogmatic the left can be.
Bill Maher lately appears to have been reading up on Islam. This is good. His fan base is mostly PCMC Liberal's, and for them to see their hero speaking thusly about the problems of Islam will help blunt the narrative of CAIR whenever they cover for Muslim outrages. It would be good if other Hollywood comedians (Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert) got the message, too.
Listening to Bill Maher on the subject of Islam is certainly a contradiction to his leftwing leanings, or at least the leanings of the majority of leftwing liberals.
I find Bill Maher's wrong headed insulting comments towards the conservatives and the right to be viscous and completely over the top when he attacks people like Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachman, but on this issue he is surprisingly right on target.
Where Maher will go next when addressing the archaic violence that inculcates Islam everywhere is anyones guess out there. He certainly is not enduring himself to former guests on his show like Rep. Keith Ellison when he essentially made the same comments to Ellison a few weeks ago.
It would most likely be an interesting exchange on the subject of Islam between Maher and world class blow hard and airhead Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee on Islam.
The bottom line is that Maher may not have taken the time to read through the 164 jihad alas' among the 114 surahs' in the Quran, but apparently he is finding it increasingly difficult to ignore the violent behavior that makes up Islam anymore like his counterparts do.

Gary was writing a metaphor on the the reaction of mohammadans to the kuran burning. He's not condoning the abusive behaviour of men. He's comparing murderous, rioting mohammadans to drunken, violent men.
In fact, the commentator, Bill Maher made the FIRST metaphorical comparison on which this thread is based. Gary simply expanded on it to include the effects of islamic clergy on the murderous behaviour of mohammadans.
When we began to see liberal and leftwing ideologues and pundits that have a media pulpit like Maher and are now recognizing the threat that is Islam, we may in fact start seeing the light at the end of this dark tunnel.
I have to say I have seen a positive "C" change in the attitude of many Americans over the last several years. Yes—I saw this on "Real Time" last night. It is great to see a bonafide left-wing liberal who actually has the temerity to tell the truth about Islam.
I disagree with Maher on many other points, but there is no doubt that Maher will be able to reach a lot of people who would never watch Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity, or seek out sites like Jihad Watch.
I'm glad to see it. This is not the first time Maher has spoken out against violent Jihad, either. Kudos to him.

So what's different about Islam? Why do people fall for its outrageous demands and propaganda? Islam has many more fanatic adherents than Communism had, has fewer scruples than communists had (that's saying a lot!) and has a much more intoxicating ("God"-intoxicated) and better-camouflaged form of propaganda. Muhammad was arguably a much better and subtler totalitarian than Lenin or his colleagues.
For once in my life, I applaud Bill Maher.

Man, has Bill Maher come a long way. Less than 10 years ago he was calling our military cowards for lobbing cruise missiles from miles away, and stating that the 9/11 hijackers were "not cowardly." He has also stated that "they hate us because of our airstrikes."
He is now a reformed apologist, in my book. His stance on Islam is the clear, honest truth, and he isn't afraid to step out of line with his liberal audience on issues like these. Good on him.

We get people popping up here in the comments thread all the time who have only just 'woken up.' And who knows how many we have, who don't actually post, but have had the same experience?
Our own regular commenter 'dalaran', formerly 'Spirit wolf', didn't get woken up by 9/11 - she got woken up by the 'Cartoon Rage' affaire. Because she's an artist, and because she's had a really tough time and was preoccupied with simply surviving, it took an attack specifically aimed at artists to grab her attention.

Yes, Profit, it did pretty much take that. Even the attack by the Killer Paki didn't clue me in; it seemed more of a landlord-tenant dispute at the time. Yes, I was short rent at the beginning of the month; I told the owner that.(I was working another temp job while waiting!) I also told him that my Unemployment Insurance was coming in a week, and I would pay him every penny of it to get squared up. Two days before my EI came in, the owner sent his nephew - who had previously bummed smokes off of me, pleading me not to tell his dad about it - to come threaten me out of the place. He wanted to toss all my stuff out on the road, and stated he was calling "42 Arabs to come f*** you up".
It was a small awakening then - it did occur to me that they didn't try to pull this crap when I still had a boyfriend and his pitties living there! That event caused me to leave my hometown for good.
But I'm used to that kind of treatment, from before, and since, so it didn't fizz me that much. I put the blame on me for getting laid off and having to take slow-arse EI.
It was the cartoon rage thing that told me, it wasn't just me that was the problem.
What I've seen and been through since then has scared the hell out of me, and I find Muslims simply to be the scariest humans extant.
I was about to defy my disability and take a nice, p/t temp job with the Census. They refused me coz I don't have a car (I guess they only hire one person per small rural area, and that person has to be able to go to all the farms, too.) For the best, I guess; sticking my head of the shell has always been a deadly mistake. The extra cash would have been nice, though, clawbacks or not.
I can hardly wait to ask my lefty co-workers about this tomorrow. Now if Maher will invite Ellison, Hooper, Bridgette Gabriel and Robert Spencer on for a round table the story will be complete.
