The previous governor of Qina was also a Christian, but they're not about to allow any more of those Mubarak-era antics in the brand-spankin'-new, post-revolutionary Egypt. The Salafists leading this protest may yet find friends in high places, as well: The Muslim Brotherhood has already stated its own opposition to women and Copts as candidates for president.
"Conservative Muslims protest against Christian governor in Egypt," from Deutsche Presse-Agentur, April 15 (via MonstersandCritics):
Cairo - Thousands of conservative Muslims protested in the southern Egyptian province of Qina Friday against the appointment of a new Christian governor.
One may be understandably perturbed by the possibly careless use of the word "conservative," as we often see in such reports, as if "conservatism" itself, anywhere and everywhere, must be the root of the problem.
Witnesses said the protesters, mostly observers of the conservative Islamic Salafist movement, threatened to bar Emad Mikhail, the new governor, from entering the province.
The previous governor, whom Mikhail will replace, was also Christian.
Qina has seen sectarian strife in the past. Late last year, dozens of Christians and Muslims were arrested in the province after nearly a dozen homes were burnt in clashes between members of the two religions.
Residents said fighting erupted last year when it was discovered that a Coptic Christian man was dating a Muslim woman from the same southern town.
According to the government, Copts are the largest minority in Egypt, comprising about 10 per cent of the 80.5 million citizens, though Christian groups estimate they have a higher percentage of the population.
With Mubarak gone ..."there goes the neighborhood"
It would be rather interesting to see the Islamic apologists try and point to the Christians persecuting the Muslims on religious grounds. They would come up empty.
Meanwhile... Muslims persecuting the members of ALL other religious groups, and rightly justifying their actions through Islamic theology, is rampant, and once again picking up speed...
Islam is sick and evil because Muhammad was sick and evil.
What is islam & company if not completely INTOLERANT of non-muslims, especially Christians and Jews ...
"Right-wing".
"Far-right".
Now it's "conservative" Muslims.
It's the bloody liberals, commies & other wrong/left winged losers who support a big world government (Caliphate), greater restrictions (Sharia), decreases in Western defensive capabilities (Jihad) and the farse of multiculturalism (ummah).
I think southern Egypt is like 60 percent inbred, per Ann Barndardt. The Friday "prayers" must have got 'em going.
Has the southern Egyptian province of Qina been declared "restive"?
So, where's the protest of Hussein Obama on such Nazi-like hatred of non-Muslims under the increasingly Muslim Brotherhood controlled Egypt? I don't understand why the
Republicans are now silent on increasing atrocities committed by the Islam-bowing Hussein Obama, a suspected Islamic trojan horse and Muslim Brotherhood agent, in his global conquest to prop up fanatical Islamic rule in once dominated Christian or multicultural countries especially in oil-rich Africa (such as Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Yemen), South-East Asia and central Asia. Do we hear any empathy for such persecuted Christians by the Rep party - looks like they too are bowing to Islam and Hussein!
This is the argument that slays the "tiny minority of extremists" canard. We have to move the issue well beyond terrorism and highlight the discrimination and persecution of non-Muslims throughout the Muslim realm.
The angry demonstrations that degenerate into church burnings and episodic pogroms,...this is the Muslim mob in action, riled up so often during Friday prayers. These are respectable members of the community, acting out their hatred of the "other" out of religious convictions and the true teachings of Islam.
And the blatant discrimination against non-Muslims in Darul Islam...this is what CAIR and other Muslim advocacy groups in the West must answer for.
It is Amazing to me that former President could destroy the only muslim government which had christians in its administration and one high ranking Syrian Orthodox Christian in the Bath Party,. In fact he built the building in which the congregation met. Our actions on behalf of Mr. Bush have totally destabilized the area to a point middle eastern Islamic countries are entering into greater cooperation and unification in a manner which is detrimental to our national interests. And we acted not out of fear or good judgment rather out of ignorance.
Were we informed in the 1992 war that Kuwait had been given to Iraq as part of Iraq under the Bellflower Agreement? Were we told Iraq had a legal claim to the the oil fields? were we informed Iraq was not existent till the same Bellflower created the non-existent Iraq when Kuwait was given to Iraq. No, I had to read a history book to find these very important facts.
Our nation seems to often react out of ignorance. The Christmas prior to the the present Iraqi conflict witnessed many Americans in the Bazaar bartering and purchasing. Then the bombs fell. Ignorance because it was the most western nation in the Middle East. Our inept handling of 9/11 has left the USA without a handhold in this part of the world. Our ineptitude has created a chain of events which may well lead to our undoing.
The Islamic oil fields represent 69% of the worlds oil which means this part of the world is bathed in riches untold. The primary reason the last Islamic Empire crashed and burned is that it had extended itself beyond its financial capability and by 1915 had, so to speak, run out of gas. The aims of Islam have not changed from its early 7th century conquests till the present; subjection of people to Islam, territorial acquisition and power remain its peaceful goals. That is when they have conquered there will be peace.
most dreadful is the fact the tables have turned. The USA has no money nor the heart to enter into the current unfolding crusade. We run screaming the "sky is falling" subjecting ourself to losing our personal freedoms and the self flagellation of invasive pat downs at the airports and needing a passport to enter other western nations.
Wake up America! Desist from the purchase of Arab Oil. Quit sending jobs (even if by previous method of debt reduction) to India, China and other countries hostile to our national interests. Start smelting, creating our own steel, manufacture our own goods even if it means lesser wages for the time being. Put greed behind us and a test of morality before us an forge into the future. These are not ignorant goals. In the next election we need a person who understands the crusade is upon us, who will cut the EPA back to a point we can regain control of our own economy by putting Americans back to work. Preident Carter once said we needed to "Bite the Bullet." If went to continue as greet nation this means an auto industry worker may not make 25.00 per hour (I use this as only an example) but work for less in order to get off unemployment. We all may need to settle for less to recreate America;s national dream. In the end less is better than nothing.
we are at a crossroad which calls us to look after America and stop this silly feeding to coffers of our enemies by buying their goods and giving them our jobs. Islam stands at the gate are we going to open it wide for them or are going to use common sense and good judgment and a prepared military? The little battles in Afghanistan are contrary to our interests and serve only to bleed us of our wealth in manpower and money. Money which is decreasing in value because we have to print more to keep up the pace of our spending. The hand writing is on the wall and shall it be written "You should have spoke softly and carried a big stick?"

More moral equivalence. You would think from this that Muslims and Christians were attacking each other and *burning each others' houses down*.
Instead the violence was all one way. Muslims attacked Christians, and burned down their homes and church, and then knocked down the smoldering ruins of that church and declared it a mosque.
Dear Mr. Spencer
Thank you and thanks to all commentators who support us (The copts)....
Here's some video is response to the muslims' claim that they refuse the new governor because he was an ex-police office...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o68j2UqJ3lI&feature=player_embedded
there're 8 parts of videos, shooted today...
I know you have many friends who can help you to translate them much better than I can do (My English is terrible), but I can highlight some of the important things being said in the video:
- la illah ela allah (no god but allah) Mikhael adew allah (MiKhael is allah's enemy)
-Islamia Islamia (Islamic [country])
-not to be a fitna... only a muslim rules us
-it's an islamic country, no kaffir should rule us...
