Among the groups mentioned in the release are the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, al-Qaida, the Islamic Jihad Union, and the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement.
The groups have expressed anti-American sentiments and attacked U.S. government interests, including the U.S. embassy in Tashkent. In the past, these groups also have carried out kidnappings, assassinations, and suicide bombings....

A friend's daughter was there a few years ago working as a relief worker. Every package that they sent her got "lost."
Her brother sent her a hoodie from Harvard. It never arrived, so the young woman goes to the village post office to inquire and sees the mahoud who works there walking around in a hoodie with HARVARD emblazened across the front.
My friend is furious. Her husband started sending everthing from then on in boxes with the words "contains pork" in Uzbek.
