Nazareth: Banner hung near Basilica of the Annunciation says "whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers"

That's Qur'an 3:85. And this is not at all the first time similar banners have been hung to intimidate Christians in Nazareth.

When Muslims "care to send the very best" message of hatred and intolerance to the kuffar, quoting chapter and verse serves to remind that Islam holds that these words came from the mouth of Allah himself. And those who submit to the Qur'an's deity will act accordingly. "Christians in the Middle East: Harder to Bear," by David Gardner for the Financial Times, April 23:

In a square in Nazareth, right below the Basilica of the Annunciation, a Koranic verse warns that "whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers". Yet it is the spectre of losing in the here-and-now that most haunts the dwindling number of adherents to Christianity in the land of its birthplace.
In the hometown of Jesus, where it all began two millennia ago, Christians feel under siege. This fear is not limited to Nazareth or the Holy Land. Across the Arab world, Christians ask whether they are an endangered species: threatened by Islamist radicals; forced by limited opportunities at home to seek new lives abroad; accused of complicity in the schemes of foreign predators; and now menaced by the wave of revolution ripping through the region -- which some fear could uncover the submerged hard-wiring of sectarianism.
Two massacres, at the church of Our Lady of Salvation in Baghdad last October and at a Coptic church in Alexandria on New Year's day, have reinforced this sense of a modern persecution aimed at emptying Arab lands of Christians, who number perhaps 15m among 300m Muslims.
"We are in a new era of persecution of Christians," says Rifa't Bader, a Jordanian Catholic priest whose congregation is now mainly made up of refugees from jihadist savagery in Iraq. "We are victims of things we are not responsible for, whether the Israeli occupation [of Palestinian land] or American policy in the Middle East, especially [the occupation of] Iraq".
Iraq is a case apart. Following the Anglo-American invasion of 2003, indigenous Assyrian Christians, mostly Chaldean, have endured a backlash that has reduced their numbers from close to 1m to about 400,000. One refugee in Amman, a 66-year-old chemistry professor who gives his name as Abu Sinan, says: "In my country, 1,400 years of co-existence and common endeavour with Muslims disintegrated in just five years." To Arab Christians around the region, this was a tragedy foretold.
Riah Abu el-Assal, a Palestinian and former Anglican bishop of Jerusalem, says one month before the invasion he personally warned Tony Blair, British prime minister of the time, that "you will be responsible for emptying Iraq, the homeland of Abraham, of Christians". After almost 2,000 years, Iraqi Christians now openly contemplate extinction. Some of their prelates even counsel flight.
Maher, 24, used to guard churches from attack in his formerly mixed Baghdad neighbourhood of al-Jadriya, where he says only five Christian families remain. He is now waiting in Amman to join the survivors from his family in the US. "Eventually my choice became simple: whether or not to stay alive," he says.
But if Iraqi Christians scent apocalypse, their Arab co-religionists elsewhere have started to feel vulnerable in the lands of their forefathers -- even if some are exhilarated by the current chain of uprisings bringing a fresh vision of freedom and democracy.
In Egypt, the resolutely anti-sectarian Tahrir Square revolution was followed by riots between Copts (reckoned to amount to about 10 per cent of Egyptians) and Muslims, raising suspicions that elements from the deposed regime of Hosni Mubarak were trying to widen a cleft between the two communities.

To say nothing of the Islamic elements cut loose in society in the aftermath of the revolution.

In Jordan, the Christian minority has prospered under the protective wing of the Hashemite monarchy, owning or running about one-third of the economy although they form less than 3 per cent of the population. Gathering resentment against corruption and economic hardship could threaten its position, as well as that of King Abdullah.
In Syria, where Christians make up some 10 per cent of the population, they are closely aligned with the regime of Bashar al-Assad -- essentially rule by the Alawite minority exercised from behind the facade of the Ba'ath party. "Their fear is that if the regime falls to the Sunni majority, they will be put up against the same wall as the Alawites," says one close observer of Syria in Beirut.
The Assad regime has enforced religious tolerance. Syrians, having seen sectarian demons uncaged in Iraq and before that Lebanon, worry about a new Balkans-in-the-sands now the regime faces unprecedented dissent. Raymond Moussalli, a Syrian and Chaldean priest in Amman, whispering through a sung mass in Aramaic -- the language of Christ still spoken by a few Syrians -- says: "If sectarianism enters into the Syrian equation the whole region will explode, especially Jordan and Lebanon."...

The worst-case scenario for Christians could also be a "be careful what you wish for" moment for the region's Muslims:

Christians -- as well as Jews -- helped the rise of Islamic civilisation by plugging it into the Hellenist legacy. In its decline, they were custodians of this heritage and of the Arabic language. It was Christians who disproportionately drove the "Arab awakening" of the 19th and 20th centuries, not just through a new Arabist politics but in education, publishing, medicine and science. [...]
... [The] spectre of an eastern Mediterranean empty of Christians is still haunting for many, not just because it would uproot a 2,000-year-old heritage but because it would burn the bridges between east and west.
"The beauty of this land is that it is a mosaic," says Bishop Abu el-Assal in Nazareth. "If the Christians leave, what will be left of that? The Middle East represents the intermingling of civilisation and the three Abrahamic faiths. If that finally goes, this will cease to be Terra Santa; it will be a museum."

And it will only be a "museum" until someone comes along to shatter the remaining evidence of jahiliyya and sweep up the shards.

" ... from the mouth of Allah himself ..."/ ... submit to the Qu'ran's Deity and act accordingly ..."

without The Spirit, it is possible to do as Allah "says." that is, having not heart, the slave to Allah can murder, rape, maim, pillage, lie and deceive, and still "think" he is doing good.

should the other two Abrahamic faiths be driven out there will be only the evil hoard amongst the sheep and goats as they denude the lands.

then there will be only glorious Islam in the sands with no resources to live, or, find life

they do this for their own detriment

Allah is not merciful or kind or compassionate

As Helen Al-lebani would say - 'those Xians need to go back where they came from...'

Mahoundians... Major-league losers not only in any possible hereafter (since, if there is one, they'd be in a place where pedophiles, mass-murderers, genocidal lunatics and wife-beaters like their mythical prophet Mahound ought to end up), but here on Planet Earth as well. And the linked article would be only good news if we didn't know about the Western suicidal tradition of rescuing mahoundians from the consequences of islam, rather than allow those black-cube worshippers to reap what they sow without any outside interference.

Well, not to be too hard on Bishop Abu el-Assal, but thinking of Islam as one of the "three Abrahamic faiths" is just not a sound or sapient assessment. Even assuming that "Allah" is the same deity as the one Jews and Christians worship (this assumption, of course, is open to doubt), Islam has so denigrated Judaism and Christianity, notwithstanding the "People of the Book" bone thown out to Jews and Christians, that respecting Islam if you're a Christian or a religious Jew implicitly means that you acquiesce in Islam's tawdry and ungracious assessment of Christians and Jews as well as its very different interpretation of this monotheistic god, a god which requires submissive slaves rather than free and independently thinking human beings. Additionally, it is not helpful to be so accomodating to Islam because then it makes it all the more difficult to criticize it for all the heinous and totalitarian elements it has in it. In short, the "three Abrahamic faiths" approach unwarrentedly legitimizes Islam all the more and this is, quite simply, not a good idea.

As for anyone being a loser in the Hereafter because they have accepted a religion different from Islam, who the hell in their right mind would want to participate in the Islamic heaven in perpetuity, childish and steeped in hedonistic activities as it is? No true dignity or real purpose there. Not a great place for females either I might add. What an antithesis it forms to subtler ideas of the afterlife proffered by far more profound religions such as Buddhism and Christianity. In any case, and putting any possible Hereafter aside, in this world, when one is talking about losers, it's hard to think of a greater group of losers than Muslims. I mean just look at the Muslim world today (or a century ago, or a century before that or...). It's got loser written all over it.

Here we go again...the usual dhimmi Christian response to Muslim persecution - blame the Jews and blame America. Of course, there is some truth in the standard dhimmi Christian condemnation of America, as Christians, not being perceived as a threat by Sadddam, were afforded protection from the hostile circumambient Muslim majority. With the fall of Saddam, and the consequent rise to power of the Shi'ites, the Christians lost their protector. Where the Jews/Israelis are concerned, they face dhimmi Christian condemnation whatever they do. If they cede control of parts of Judea and Samaria to the thugocracy of the Palestinian Authority, the Israelis are condemned for throwing the indigenous Christians to Abbas's wolves; if the Israelis retain control of an area where dhimmi Christians reside, they are oppressors and occupiers, despised by the Christians, who ally themselves with the Muslims in the name of pan-Arabism, Muslim "allies" who, of course, will, once able, turn on the Christians, impose Shari'a, and persecute them with renewed energy.

Of course it won't happen, but I think the nice folks of the Basilica should hang their own banner, to the effect that:

Whoever muslim would seek to interfere with our celebration will find himself lunching on sensitive parts of his own anatomy--and NOT in the hereafter...

I know it sounds crude and indelicate. But that's where I'm down to with these scum...

Yep. This is what happens when too many Muslims who take their religion too seriousely get too numerous in just the "right" places.

Oh, but please don't ever forget, "Islam is about peace and tolerance." Yep.

Muslim intimidation is an old tactic in Nazareth and has led to violence in the past. Following is an article about recent events; but attempts to crown out Christians and invade their space have a LONG history:

http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=39498

Either way, Muslims agree with Christians in saying that Jesus, body and soul, has ascended to heaven and will return again to judge the living and the dead. Muslims and Christians also agree that Muhammad lies in the sand of Medina awaiting the resurrection of all the rest of the dead, and the judgment which we must all face.

After God took on our flesh, worked atonement for us by dying on the cross, and then rising from the dead to conquer death itself on our behalf, the idea that there is a further revelation that God needs to give us is utterly preposterous. This is why the four-fifths of the Christian Bible written before Jesus Christ took a millennium to write, while the New Testament was completed by Jesus' own followers within a generation.

Happy Easter to all who follow the liturgical calendar--from a guy who accepts that the new creation which Christ brings is celebrated every time Christians gather for rest in Christ and his worship on Sunday rather than Saturday.

I wonder what would happen if a Christian group, within sight of a mosque, hung out a banner with the warning found at the end of Revelation that God will add all the curses found in the Bible (due to the numerous allusions to other parts of Scripture, I hold that John was probably aware that he was closing the Bible when he wrote Revelation, including its warnings at the end) to whoever pretends to add to "the words of prophecy in this book"? Would there not be a howl of indignation and please of victimhood everywhere, and the self-appointed secular guardians of public righteousness out in force to scream "bigotry"?

Islam blesses the worst in men, and pretends to represent righteousness.

Yes boakai, and as Jesus warned his disciples: 'There are those who will try to kill you believing that they are doing a holy service to God'

Muslims are the best victims in the world. The only way muslims get to be victimized is by having their religion exposed & maybe one or two copies of the quran burnt.Christians & other non-muslim minorities living in Islamic countries have to suffer imprisonment, persecution, death, humiliation, their women being sexually assaulted for not covering themselves from head to toe, their churches & homes destroyed, forced conversions, etc.

Well here's an encouraging sign for Easter Sunday anyway, UK van driver can keep his Palm Cross in his works van.

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20110424/tuk-cross-row-man-can-display-symbol-6323e80.html

@London Jim

the futility of JIHAD must be made known by all the children of Abraham ... who believe the PROMISE

Brilliant !! I myself sent a very trenchant e-mail to WDH, saying I would be looking at all their vans very carefully, from now on, and if I saw any muslim drivers displaying islamic symbols, I would DEMAND they also be sacked. Loads of people from the EDL also sent e-mails, and they were also planning a protest, although I imagine that will be cancelled now. How typical of the weaselly msm not to mention the EDL, or any of the thousands of e-mails the WDH received.

Palestinian Muslims are making the effort to take over Nazareth along with the entire Galilee. Purchases of land by oil money is apart of the ongoing effort, and not much is being written about it in the Israeli press. Carolina Glick in the JPost wrote about it last year along with reporting that Jewish farmers in the Galilee were experiencing extreme difficulty with arab destruction and theft and the Israeli police were more or less turning a blind eye.

If by "loser" the sign means that I don't have any part in the sex orgy of old men with their young virgins, then by all means, make me the loser. I'll gladly take the losses. Every time I hear or read of Islam being connected to Abraham, etc., I feel like retching.

Jesus said his followers would be persecuted and they are. But many more Earthlings are coming to realize just how unholy the tenets of Islam are.

If by "loser" this means that I won't be having any part in the sex orgies, then by all means, make me one of the losers. I feel like a "winner" already because I take no part in the unholy tenets of Islam.

Yes Jan, great result, just goes to show what can happen when somebody finally makes a stand and gets some back-up, I think too many people especially in the U.S. seem to have written the UK off altogether, but the UK rot is still only a nasty crust of traitors at the top, controlling a cowardly media, '5th columnists' indeed. Not so many in terms of numbers, and having to rely too heavily on keeping Joe Public firmly in the dark. I sense they can see whole thing is beginning to crack, got the timing wrong.

"We are in a new era of persecution of Christians," says Rifa't Bader, a Jordanian Catholic priest
................................

Actually, this is a very old persecution of Christians and other Infidels by Muslims.

It just goes through periodic cycles where the Ummah becomes more devout, and more murderous with it. Previous spasms of homicidal piety rendered reaches of Dar-al-Islam such as Yemen, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Saudi Arabia virtually devoid of indigenous non-Muslims.
