No riots. No U.N. compounds stormed and staff members hunted down and murdered. No girls' schools vandalized. No mosques burned. No calls for war or death to the country where it happened (and Israel). No collective punishment of Muslims for the actions of one Muslim on the streets of Lahore.
That's how it's done, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Now, you give it a try. "Muslim Desecrates Bible in Pakistan to 'Avenge' Quran Burning," by Asher John for the Christan Post, April 9:
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – A 24-year-old Muslim man desecrated the Bible at the gates of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lahore on Friday in order to “avenge” extremist American preacher Terry Jones’ desecration of the Quran in Florida last month.
Police arrested the man, identified as Akhtar Hussain, a resident of the neighboring district of Kasur, and registered a case against him under Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Section 295-A states: “Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the 'religious feelings of any class of the citizens of Pakistan, by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representations insults the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, or with fine, or with both.”
According to police sources, Hussain had first tried to force entry into the church where a large number of Christians were attending a special mass, whereupon security guards at the gates stopped him and asked for identification.
The sources told The Christian Post that the guards denied Hussain entry into the church when he told them his name, and the church administration asked him why he wanted to go into the church. Hussain told them that he wanted to burn the Bible in the church just as Terry Jones and his fellow preacher Wayne Sapp had conducted a trial of the Quran in their church. The Muslim man then suddenly took out the Christian holy book he had hidden inside his clothes and proceeded to tear it apart.
The guards captured Hussain and called the police, who arrested him along with the evidence. Senior police official Umer Saeed said the man was in stable mental condition and had told police investigators he was “taking revenge” from the Christians for setting the Koran on fire. He said he had been “very tense” since he heard the news of the sacrilege and wanted to do something to get even.
Talking to The Christian Post about the incident, Christian leaders and civil society activists condemned the incident, urging tolerance, respect and acceptance for people belonging to all faiths.
Asif Aqeel, director of Lahore-based Christian non-government organization Community Development Initiative, said, “Christians are told to turn the other cheek. They are also told not to take revenge rather pray for their enemies. The act of burning the Quran by Terry Jones and Wayne Sapp has no biblical basis and does not represent the teachings of the Christian faith. The Christians of Pakistan are facing the repercussions of their heinous act.”
He said that Muslims should realize that the act of two individuals should not be considered a collective act of all Christians. “At the same time we would say that no civilized person can imagine to repay these so-called preachers by burning the Bible… we condemn this act as uncivilized and similarly devoid of respect of others,” he said.
Napolean Qayyum, leader of the minorities’ wing of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party, voiced similar sentiments.
“We strongly condemn this incident but we are not going to hold all Muslims responsible for the desecration of our holy book…Christianity preaches forgiveness and love. We are hurt but we will not respond in kind,” he said, adding that he hoped that the effects of the violence in Afghanistan over the Quran burning incident would not spill over into Pakistan.
Dr. Tahira Saleem, chairperson of Shekinah Ministries Pakistan, said Pakistan was increasingly becoming an intolerant society. “We don’t know why our countrymen hold Christians responsible for every action taken in the West,” she said, adding that the entire Christian community had voiced their protest against the incident in Florida “but Friday’s incident shows the resentment in the Muslims.”...
I wonder if they'll sentence him to hang as they sentenced Asia Bibi?
Muslims are having a hard time coming to grips with the notion that an idea can't be destroyed. Destroy as many Bibles as you may, O' inhabitants of Dar al-Islam, and you'll still find that the love principle that guides Christianity survives.
Try to destroy the principles of our form of government by burning or shredding the Constitution; that too won't work. The idea of free speech is contained in hearts and minds, not in/on pieces of paper. (To this end you would be better off following the example of traitors-to-their-oaths-of-office like Lindsay Graham or all Democrats who undercut constitutional principles from within.)
What sort of a weak god do you have, O' inhabitants of Dar al-Islam, that he/it needs the "protection services" of mortals like yourselves?
"He said he had been “very tense” since he heard the news of the sacrilege and wanted to do something to get even."
If he was serious he could:
1. Focus their indignation on Muslims committing violent acts in the name of Islam, not on non-Muslims reporting on those acts.
2. Renounce definitively, sincerely, honestly, and in deeds, not just in comforting words, not just “terrorism,” but any intention to replace the U.S. Constitution (or the constitutions of any non-Muslim state) with Sharia even by peaceful means. In line with this, they should clarify what is meant by their condemnations of the killing of innocent people by stating unequivocally that American and Israeli civilians are innocent people, teaching accordingly in mosques and Islamic schools, and behaving in accord with these new teachings. All this should be done in ways that can be verified by non-Muslim observers.
3. Teach, again sincerely and honestly, in transparent and verifiable ways in mosques and Islamic schools, the imperative of Muslims coexisting peacefully as equals with non-Muslims on an indefinite basis, and act accordingly.
4. Begin comprehensive international programs in mosques all over the world to teach sincerely against the ideas of violent jihad and Islamic supremacism.
5. Actively and honestly work with Western law enforcement officials to identify and apprehend jihadists within Western Muslim communities.
They waste their energy. We can't be bothered with their infantile pranks. Islam is entirely infantile.
I'd feel sorry for you but it would be a waste of energy. You had to spend your own money to get that bible, didn't you? Boy, you really got even!
Ironically, had this dope been discovered with a bible in his possession prior to his reaching the church, he could have well become the next victim of the ROP for apostasy. Then, surely, the outcome would have been markedly different.

This is the first rational response to Koran burning I have heard about coming from the Muslim community. He just wanted to get even, a book for a book. We should be shipping them hundreds of thousands of copies so they can burn them. Who knows, along the way some might even be read. We could start a whole new export industry: Bibles, Bagavad Gitas, Zend Avestas, Analects, Tripitakas, etc. We print, sell and ship them to Muslim countries and they burn them. Nobody gets hurt and they have the satisfaction of "getting even".
He is for the chop, naturally. Perhaps when he steps out of the courtroom a free man and someone guns him down, no?
Or shall we see another "reconciliation meeting", the Christians laying on some forgiveness and the Muslims expecting nothing more?
Pastor Jones is not an extremist - but a brave man standing up for the truths against evil, especially PREDATORY evil like Islam. Nowhere in the Bible, our God demand us to kneel down to evil - so it's really pathetic, those who submit to the evil of Islam. Many Muslims fanatics have disguised themselves to preach us "false peace" in order to force non-believers to be SLAVES to Satanic love and let Islam's predatory evil to reign over us, instead of Christ's love, which hates evil/sin as in "Love must be completely sincere. Hate what is evil, hold on to what is good" (Rom 12:9). The Old Testament(OT) is a fundamental part of the Bible because our God of the OT is the same God of the New Testament (NT) as in "before Abraham was, I AM" (John 8:58). Or as our Lord Jesus Christ's anger at sin in Matt 21:12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 And said unto them, It is written , My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. Or in Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Our Lord Jesus Christ also teach us to fight battles against predatory evil such as the right to self-defence as in Exodus 17: 8-16. And further, fundamentally, the Ten Commandments as in Exodus 20:2-17, is what makes up the foundation of progressive Judeo-Christian civilization until today. By the way, Jews and Christians shiould unite against Islam's PREDATORY evil; for Jews and Christians share the same God and both 'infidels' are the most hated under Islam.
Where is the outcry by General Petraeus, who stood by and condemned the pastor's burning of the Quran. Why isn't someone in our government condemning people who burn our Bible? Such a double standard. So tired of everyone kissing Muslim's booties.
It's somewhat amusing to see Islamic nations so completely dominated by the fear of Christianity oozing in at every small inlet.
Reminds me of the scene in Harry Potter where the shmucky uncle attempts to keep the Hogswarts letter from arriving in the house, only to be inundated with them.
Why else would these Muslims act this way, shredding Bibles, snatching crosses, etc. The entire state is really just an apparatus to keep out the inevitable, like trying to extend the life of a terminal patient. You know who you are Saudis!
it is not that they worry about Christianity oozing in their countries. Mohammad said that he was the last prophit and no one can come/will come after him and he also siad that his words supercede all otheres. parcticing muslims firmly believe in this and they take non muslims as second hand and infidels. that is what they are dominated with. My own dad RIP was like that.
m
"We are hurt ...." Napoleon Qayyum must think that admitting to the Muslims that they've not hurt anyone by burning a book would only infuriate them by further revealing their impotence.
Miriam,
Yes, I'm sure Muslims have the rationale you say, but I'm talking about the security apparatuses, the paranoia of the mullahs, etc. They fear their power eroding, that Islam is not enough, which means it is invalid. Harry Potter's uncle had his rationale for keeping out the Hogswart letter too.
Miriam,
BTW, I'm not pimping Christianity in my comments. I'm nominal at best. Could have said Buddhism or atheism also, but I'm not as familiar with those under Islam to say, and it is not as obvious in those cases. Mullahs fear everything that loosens their power. They are the human rights criminals that coersively keep Islam from being swept into the dustbin of history.
Of course, he wouldn't have burned the Bible if the Christians hadn't burned the Qur'an; so, it's really the Christians to blame ....... right? :))
My hope is that the Christians he intended to get revenge against take him into their hearts, teach him about Christianity and bring him into the fold. Or at the very least teach him the difference between words on paper and words that live in the heart.
Then I want to ride a unicorn over a rainbow while it shoots jelly beans out it's ass.
David Wood:
The U.S. government condemns burning the Qur'an. Yet the U.S. government burns Bibles. This is a clear violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErzxOz3Dzv8
No, it's not really the Christians to blame. When a Muslim suggests such a thing we should ask him: and who told you to sink to our level? Have you no self-control? If you're so much better than we are, then why don't you prove it?
Can someone explain this to Atheists who think Christianity is bad or even worse than Islam? Thanks.
LOL ! Attaboy !
Well, *that* was what was missing in Jones' act: actually burning that Qu'ran inside or, being refused access, right outside *a mosque* !
But, let's give the guy his due: it's a step up from the usual behavior of his fellow buddies...
To John K. I am no legal eagle. Can some Christians in the U.S. take a class action suit against the dhimmi Gen.Petraeus for burning the Bibles?
Would the Christians dare testify against a Muslim? The death threats and home burnings should start any day now.
Hi Gerald,
Me either, but I have written Congress and the Senate about it. David is being represented by TMLC on the Dearborn case, so I imagine he has some legals ears to talk to.
The police actually arrested him? That was probably just for public consumption, and he'll be let off w/ a slap on the wrists & a pat on the back whenever they think the world is no longer looking.
I wish there actually were anti-Muslim riots all over Christendom, so that Muslims would start fearing for their safety.
Isn't this where we should stand-up and HAIL the rights of this man and demand his freedom......So what if he hates us.
I know many of the details that lead us to this point but its all just noise compared to the "IDEA" behind a quran desecration here in the U.S.
We should all want this man free and exonerated of all charges except if he violated the private property rights of the Church or damaged the property.
FREEDOM of Speech!!!! Private Property Rights!!!!
If anything we should be happy for bible makers. They get to sell one more! Man can't hurt GOD, only other men.
Let's work to free this man and show the world we stand for the IDEAS that we say are SACRED.
The President, The Senate and the House should all draft and Sign "UNANAMOUSLY" a demand for FREEDOM for this man.
Though we are pressed upon by his actions "We hold the freedom to perform those actions as SACRED and a GOD given RIGHT that should not be infringed upon by any other man.
If we don't........it's just a bunch of rhetoric.

In Christianity, you are personally held responsible for your sins before God and are subject to civil authority to pay any social consequences (e.g., jail time). In Islam, it is the duty of every Muslim to enforce Sharia law (which enforces Islamic principles) when possible. Sharia law includes "revenge" for insults by non-Muslims, plunder and abuse of non-Muslims so they "feel subdued," and even murder of non-Muslims simply for being non-Muslims who refuse to convert to Islam or pay extortion (infidel tax), and all this behavior is done with impunity under Sharia law. There is no equality in the comparison.

*Excellent point*. The next tine someone is caught with a Bible in Dar-al-Islam, they can simply announce that they were on their way to burn the thing outside the nearest church (and yes, for anyone who might take offense, I am *definitely making a joke*, and *not* an actual suggestion).

phil, I would be *very* surprised if Akhtar Hussain is not already out and basking in his new-found status as a "defender of Islam".
If I actually thought it likely that Hussain was going to come to any harm over his aggressive bit of Muslim supremacism, I *would* be stumping for his release.
But in Pakistan, the "blasphemy laws" only cut one way. Poor Asia Bibi may be sitting on death row for supposedly "insulting Islam", but nothing similar is going to happen to a pious Muslim getting "revenge" on the filthy Kaffir.
Poster Bunty Hoven already broached the double standard, above.
