A. The doctrine of abrogation (naskh) cancels verses 60.8, 2.190, and 8.61.

B. Verses 2.62, 5.69, and 22.17, which appear, on their face, to make no distinction between "those who believe" and Jews, Christians, and Sabians, are interpreted by mainstream Muslim scholars, clerics, and jurists to mean that the "good" Jews et al. are actually those who have embraced Islam. The abrogation is about verses that are no longer in the Quran, not verses that remain in the Quran but somehow is abrogated. Now that is commonsense. The Quran is believed by believers to be the word of God recited via Mohamad the way it is right now. So every verse of the Quran is Islam and Islam is every verse. What is not Islam however is anything that is outside of the Quran, including Hadith, interpretations, some stories behind the verses and so on. Interpretations change according to time and space of course.

And when the Quran talks about Jews and Christians in the
7th century, that means Jews and Christians of the 7th century who are Jews and Christians and not Muslims of Jewish background or Christian background. And remember: Islam is the Quran and the Quran is Islam, and all verses count.

There is NOTHING new about Arab Christians chanting anti-Semitic ditties. The colorful little chant in question is actually a very old one that has been used in the Land of Israel by Arab Christians at Easter for many centuries and has no connection to Palestian nationalism or Islam.

The Christians there were anti-Semitic long before Islam came into the picture.

Kathir explains here (if you go there, scroll down to the bottom third of the page) that Quran 2:106, which advises Muslims to be tolerant toward unbelievers, has been canceled by verses in Quran Chapter 9 (which Muslim scholars generally agree was one of the last Quran chapters revealed). Kathir quotes part of Quran 9:5, but here's the whole verse:

Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Messenger [Muhammad] have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth [Islam], out of those who have been given the Book [Christian and Jews], until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection [this subjection is a source of Islamic law's institution of dhimmitude, i.e., third-class legal status for non-Muslims].

There were 600 or 700 in all, though some put the figure as high as 800 or 900. As they were being taken out in batches to the apostle they asked Ka`b what he thought would be done with them. He replied, 'Will you never understand? Don't you see that the summoner never stops and those who are taken away do not return? By Allah it is death!' This went on until the apostle made an end of them.

Have anyone considered that the Christian Palestinians are suffering under Israeli occupation in the West Bank and Gaza just like their Muslim Brothers? They are all "Gentiles" in the end.

About Hadith: You be the Judge

All of it was written down 200 to 300 yrs in Bagdad Iraq after Mohamad had died. It is considered heresy in the court. Plus why Mohamad or the first three successors of Mohamad did not write down any Hadith?

In Egypt for example the mainstream say sunna to keep the 5 prayers as it is performed, since it is not mentioned in the Quran nor it is mentioned in Hadith either. They reject most of the Hadith, however, including stories relating to verses of the Quran; and judge Hadith based on the content not based on the chain of narrators. They call it reason vs. transferring. Of course they can't do that with the Quran. They simply judge Hadith by the Quran and not the other way around.

The Muslim brotherhood in Egypt use Islam to get elected. When asked which kind of Islam they have in mind they shy away so as to represent everybody, including the rival Salafis and Sufis. But they see the current Islamic ruling party in Turkey as their model.

I often think that myself. Khomeini was a madman, devil spawn and something of a false prophet as he claimed to be a representative of God. I am yet to meet a Muslim (even amongst the Shi'ah Muslims) who has any respect for him, mind you one of my two absolute closest childhood friends is a Pakistani Shi'ah Muslim. I know an Iranian Shi'ah and as ignorant as I was back then, she was in fact the one who first told me about Khomeini whom she (and many Iranians) believed ruined Iran.

Ibn Ishaq's writings were destroyed by the Ottomans at one stage becuase of how ridiculous they were. It's noteworthy that he lived some 200 years after the Prophet's death. There is no complete book of his writings in existence today and most Muslims wouldn't know about his rantings as they are often not taught about them becuase of their questionable authenticity and the fact that many of Ibn Ishaq's writings are contradictory to the nature of the Quran.
The Jews in the Quran who were transformed into apes and pigs were a *specific* set of Jews who broke the Sabbath and were turned into apes and pigs as punishment.
Moses' people were all Jews so the good and bad at that time were both Jews, just as a Mohammed was an Arab and the good and bad in his day were mostly Arabs; God does sanction a horrible punishment for Abu Lahab (the prophet's uncle) in the Quran, and speaks of the pagan Arabs in not so nice terms.
There are a lot of Americans who hate Islam/Muslims as a result of 9/11, the line "I learnt everything I need to know about Islam on 9/11" is commonly heard and read; there are some Christians who go as far as claiming that Muslims are "agents of Satan" who will usher in the anti-Christ so it's not too unusual that there are Palestinians who abhor Jews considering how many 9/11s they've suffered at the hands of the Jewish state for the past 60 years.
Christians and Jews have a Judeo-Christian alliance in the West aligned against the common Islamic enemy, similarly Muslims and Christians in Israel/Palestinian territories have aligned against the common Jewish enemy.
It's rather tragic that the world must be that way.

I always loved the generalizations when it comes to naskh, and how all of a sudden everyone is an expert, failing to take into consideration that what abrogates what is nowhere near agreed on.

Many classical scholars disagreed on what verses were even abrogated, Ibn al-Arabee, believed of 297 cases only 105 were actually abrogated, Mustafa Zayd believed of 283, only 6 were actually abrogated, Ibn al-Jawzee believed of 247 cases, only 22 were actually abrogated, Ibn Abee Taalib, believed of 200 cases, none were abrogated, az-Zarqaani believed only 12 of 22 cases were abrogated.

And riddle me this, why does no one ever discuss takshees in regards to the more violent surahs? You know takhsees or specification for a certain moment in time and event, IE war against the polytheistic Meccans?

Clearly Muslims are trying to start mistrust between Christians and Jews.

Do not believe what Islam says. Instead believe what Islam does. Look to the south, north, east and west. See what is Islam doing?

Words mean very little at this point. But actions cut deep for decades to come. Which is to say if I say "I love you" does that mean it is so?

Does the New Testament follow the Old Testament in the same Holy Book? Doesn't the old speak of the new which is yet to come? Indeed these books are akin to each other in every way.

On the other hand where is the Koran similar to either the Old Testament or the New Testament?

Islam always claims it is innocent and misunderstood. But it sure doesn't sound like it.

'Long Suffering is also a 'fruit of the Spirit'. Israel/The Jews are still 'suffering' unlike many 'christians'.
