Uganda: Christian pastor petitions Parliament to remove Islamic Sharia laws from Constitution

Because they establish Muslims as a special, privileged class in society. Meanwhile, in Nashville, Muslims are claiming victim status over a proposed anti-Sharia law. The supporters of this law should bring in Pastor Umaru Mulinde to testify about what Sharia actually does to a society. "Uganda People News: Pastor petitions parliament over Sharia laws," from ugpulse.com, April 19:

Pastor Umaru Mulinde of Life Gospel Church in Namasuba has asked Parliament to remove the Islamic Sharia Laws (Kadhi Courts) in the constitution.

The pastor says the constitution favors Islam than other religions because other religions have not been given platform in the constitution.

In his petition addressed to the Speaker of Parliament Edward Sekandi, Mulinde says the special treatment given to Islam creates divisionism with other religions, which may cause problems like those in Nigeria and Sudan.

However, Sekandi says that Christians particularly the Pentecostal churches should learn to coexist with Muslims otherwise amending the constitution to the pastor’s favor may cause more problems....

Indeed. It will likely cause Muslims to become angry, and you know what that means.

I am sure the good pastor will be as forthcoming in his request for the cessation of the criminalization, persecution, and murder of homosexuals, some of which was imported to Uganda by Western missionaries.

Separating religion and state was the genius of America's Founding Fathers.

Since most Ugandans are black, perhaps publicly exposing mahound for the black-hating racist it (not he) is said to have been might make Uganda's self-hating mahoundians think twice about continuing to adhere to a political ideology that regards them as garbage.

"However, Sekandi says that Christians particularly the Pentecostal churches should learn to coexist with Muslims otherwise amending the constitution to the pastor’s favor may cause more problems...."

Why doesn't he say that the Muslims should learn to coexist with Christians?...oh wait a minute!...they don't want to....and he knows it...

I'm glad TN is trying to pass some anti-Sharia "Law" legislation and I truly hope every single other state/commonwealth in the USA does the same. I'm so sick of hearing people saying garbage like, "There is no need for such laws. Sharia law will never be allowed in the US." Wake up and smell the Jihad morons! There is already a civil case that was handed over for Sharia court down in Florida and the Islamic effort to install Sharia "Law" in the USA is a marathon, not a sprint. They pulling there antics, like claiming victim status in TN, to slowly work and wriggle their way into our legislation. They hope that by slowly increasing the temperature of the water we won't notice as it gets lethally hot.

I believe there are a few other states also trying to pass anti-Sharia legislation, but I could be mistaken. EVERY STATE needs to do this!! At present, it is not wise for us to count on the federal government to handle this for us so it is best handled at the state level, if for no other reason that to act as a back-up if the federal government does actually pass anti-sharia legislation.

I'm no time traveller or mind reader and I don't speak with the spirits of the dead. However, I would bet my house that the founding fathers had ZERO intention of Sharia "Law" ever having a place in our country. Islamic Jurisprudence flies completely in the face of the freedoms envisioned by our founding fathers.

For the Muslims who feel slighted by these anti-Sharia bills (I like to call them common sense bills), please feel free to immigrate to one of the many "wonderful" nations were the "beauty" of Sharia Law can be enjoyed by you and the many other citizens of that nation.

And don't tell me that since you are an American citizen you have the right to have Sharia law here. The fact is, NO YOU DON'T. Why? Because Sharia "law" violates EVERY freedom granted by our constitution. You can't hide behind the "Freedom of Religion" banner while simultaneously trying to sneak in legislation that will ban freedom of religion, the right to bear arms, equal rights among the sexes, the right to have a glass of wine, the right to a fair trial, etc. etc.

Islam is not merely a religion, it is a political, social, economic monster which need to be recognized as such. As Robert himself has said, at the very least it should have it's status changed from "Religion" to "Political Party" and be subject to the rules applicable to such.

Islam is the cancer of the world. It needs to be excised.

Exsgtbrown, maybe this Ugandan pastor is actually on the offensive against Islam. A stateside Presbyterian minister whom I know is involved in a project to aid Ugandan churches, and during his visits there he met even Presbyterian Christian elders who were ex-Muslims.

Is just that for our Christian spiritual warfare, we don't use guns and bombs (even if we accept a just war theory). Our victories aren't the other guy's destruction, but his salvation.

OT, but I have a few thoughts for Passover and Holy Week on unclecephas.blogspot.com.

Mike, Ugandan Christian objections to homosexuality are a sensitive issue. Back when the Gospel was first introduced to the Baganda, a number of royal pages, both Protestant and Catholic, were burned to death because they refused to be sodomized by their king Mutesa (and, bless God, this same king's descendants themselves became Christians).

Nor did the practice of Sodomy in the pre-Christian Baganda court reflect that the people were actually "cool" about such behavior. Sodomy was a way of showing one man's dominance over others, and the receivers more often than not found it an unhappy and uncomfortable imposition. This is the case in a number of other cultures as well.

I, too, have some deeply personal reasons for finding male homosexual acts deeply repulsive, regardless of what the Bible says (even though I say "Amen" to that old black book).

Too bad Judge Vicky in Oklahoma didn't read your post...

Because Islam and sharia are one and can't be separated, and because much of sharia is already illegal in the US, there is actually no freedom of religion for Islam. Mahoundians are not free to fully practice their religion...This puts Mahoundians in a difficult position...They have to go underground with sharia, or they have to alter it, or they need to move to a country where they already have sharia and can live happily ever after...I don't doubt that draconian sharia is already functioning underground...Mahoundians are not going to permanently give up sharia, Islam would then be lawless...What really needs to happen in the US, is Islam should be reclassified from 'religion', to a hostile, hegemonic, political system seeking to overthrow the US gov...Lose their tax exempt status, and made illegal much like the communist party was made illegal...In other words make them feel welcome to leave and head back to Somalia or some other Islamic Paradise...

Cunning Caliph Hussein Obama, the suspected Islamic Trojan horse and Muslim Brotherhood agent, will soon intervene to blast the Ugandan Pastor, for daring to criticize Islam! Christians are being murdered in mass number mercilessly in oil-rich Nigeria, but did Hussein called for intervention like the way he proclaim like a Islamic messiah, help for Muslim terrorist-rebels to gain power like in oil-rich Libya, Egypt and and Ivory Coast (now a fraud Muslim president is ruling Ivory Coast after being assisted by Caliph Hussein? Hussein even was cunning enough to support such violent Islamic terrorists revolution in the Passover message - what a hijack to the Jews and Christians, especially the murdered and persecuted ones! For the third time in just the past few years, and the second time in 2011 alone, Christians have been attacked and killed, allegedly by Muslim mobs, over a disputed election result across Africa's vast expanses.

Reports coming both from International Christian Concern as well as The Barnabas Fund reveal that the latest massacres have happened in Nigeria.

There, a recent election saw a Christian candidate picked over a Muslim challenger.

Similar situations developed earlier in both Kenya, where President Barack Obama campaigned for the Muslim challenger, and in Ivory Coast, where a Christian president re-elected and confirmed by his own nation's election procedures was removed from office and replaced by a Muslim challenger at the behest of the United States and the United Nations.

In Nigeria, Muslim rioters killed more than 100 Christians and burned more than 40 churches yesterday "in response to the election of Jonathan Goodluck, a Christian, as president," according to ICC........

The Incredible hulk must be a muslim because you won't like him when he's angry, and he gets angry alot.

We need a political movement to establish a Christisn Zion, either in South Sudan or southern Nigeria, both of which have oil.

It's time for Christians in that part of the world to take back some political power. It will be bloody, but necessary. There are all kinds of ways to help them.

Uganda is the country which is the most homophobic in Africa, and its considering the death penalty for gays, which was pushed by evangelical Christians, not by muslims

Lively is a noted anti-gay activist and president of Defend the Family International, a conservative Christian association, while Schmierer is an author who works with "homosexual recovery groups". Brundidge is a "sexual reorientation coach" at the International Healing Foundation."

Before even asking to remove Islamic law, these Ugandan Christian pastors should learn tolerance toward homosexuals and not try to kill them. A Ugandan gay activist was murdered, most probably by christians not muslims

We don't have this kind of attitude toward gays in Asia. In Taiwan, Pai Hsien-yung (who currently lives in America), was the son of Hui General Bai Chongxi, Chairman of the Chinese muslim association.

Now Pai is a homosexual and no longer muslim. No death threats were issued against him by the Association, no one called for homosexuals to be killed, or called for the banning of his books which touch on the topic of homosexuality.

He wrote the homosexual book "Crystal Boys".

Anyone can look Pai or his books up on any search engine, go ahead, i'm not lying.

The Chinese contestant for an international gay contest, was also a muslim Hui, the homophobic environment in China would have made it easy for any Imam to issue a condemnation of this guy or for this guy to be harassed or beaten by muslims.

No one threatened to kill him, no muslim tried to impede him, the only people who tried to block him were the Communist authorities, who are notoriously homophobic.

The only homophobic people in this world who persecute gays are Communists, Christians, and Saudi arabians, you won't find any muslim in east asia calling for gays to be stoned to death or killed. We let people mind their own business, if they are gay, as long as they don't bother anyone else.

Christians should learn to be tolerant of gays and stop persecuting people for their sexual orientation, especially those in Uganda.

Todd is right, I too see Islam as a cancer. First there is one cell present. Then they slowly multiply within the 'system'. As they grow the 'culture' is compromised. Eventually they overwhelm the 'bodies' capabilities and it withers and dies.
The American justice System, which is suppose to protect our Culture is being co-opted by the likes of the Oklahoma Judge who's progressive sensibilities mirror Bodies politic of our executive branch.
When will we be at the point of no return?? Sooner than we think, I fear.

Good idea to remove sharia from the constitution, it's the most barbaric law on this planet and should be banned everywhere.

"A Ugandan gay activist was murdered, most probably by christians not muslims." What evidence do you have for this assumption of yours, Horse?

The Bible condemns homosexuality, as does the Koran. Christians may say homosexuality is a sin, but true Christians want homosexuals to repent and be saved, not dead. Muslims, however, want to kill all infidels and homosexuals, and they want to make doing so legal through Sharia (Islamic) law!

Pastor Umaru Mulinde is right in stating that Islamic law favors Muslims over non Muslims. Where as this Christan pastor may hate the sin of homosexuality, he is commanded in the Bible to love sinners, including homosexuals. The Quran teaches Muslims to hate other people and even kill them in the name of Allah if they do not submit to Islamic law. Do you still want to defend Islamic law?

Uganda: Christian pastor petitions Parliament to remove Islamic Sharia laws from Constitution

Because they establish Muslims as a special, privileged class in society.
..........................

And keep in mind, Muslims make up only 12% of the population in Uganda.

Akayusuf, spot on for such brilliant comment - that horse is even propagating Arabic imperialism all over with his evil propaganda lies by claiming gays have more rights in Arab-Muslim countries! What a joke!

From the jihadwatch archives, a few stories about what Muslims in Uganda have already plotted to do ...or done.

Early in 2008, Muslims in Uganda plotted to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II during a State visit (Uganda is a Commonwealth country):

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2008/01/jihadists-plotted-to-kill-the-queen.html

Back then, I consulted the CIA world factbook online, for the population figures (Muslims, Christians, etc) in Uganda and discovered the following -

"...based on Uganda's 2002 census:

Roman Catholic 41.9%, Protestant 42% (Anglican 35.9%, Pentecostal 4.6%, Seventh Day Adventist 1.5%), Muslim 12.1%, other 3.1%, none 0.9% (2002 census).

So: total Christians 82.9 % (all non-Muslims around 85%) versus 12% Muslims."

Then, in November 2009, a Muslim mob in Uganda - now, remember, Uganda is at least 80 % non-Muslim - attacked a **church**.

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2009/11/muslims-with-peaceful-machetes-and-clubs-attack-christian-worship-service-in-uganda.html

And this church was not way out in the sticks somewhere; it was on 'the outskirts of Kampala', Uganda's capital city.

"About 40 Muslim extremists with machetes and clubs tried to break into a Sunday worship service outside Uganda's capital city of Kampala on Nov. 1, leaving a member of the congregation with several injuries and damaging the church building."

And finally, in July 2010, Muslim jihadist bombers blew themselves up in crowded venues in Kampala where people were watching the soccer World Cup, killing dozens of people.

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/07/dozens-killed-in-multiple-bombings-in-uganda-police-chief-suspects-al-qaeda.html

"Bombs exploded at two sites in Uganda's capital late Sunday as people watched the World Cup final on TV, killing at least 30 people. Foreigners, including Europeans and possibly Americans, were believed to be among the casualties."

More on the July 2010 jihadist mass murders of soccer fans in Uganda -

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/07/somalias-al-shabaab-jihadists-claim-responsibility-for-uganda-bombings.html

and more murders were planned

"Horse" cites two other posts of his here, about—among many other things—Russians using Chechen terrorists against Georgia, and patterns of abortion in India.

How either of these matters are supposed to convince us that Shari'ah law and the the Muslim threat of violence are not issues in Uganda is anyone's guess.

More and more it seems that "Horse" believes that if he cites enough obscure points of history that Jihad Watch readers will become confused about the consistent patterns of Muslim aggression.

Or perhaps he feels that if he can simply throw around enough verbiage that we will be sufficiently distracted from the Jihad threat.

Horse (Ma Xiansheng?), I get what you're saying (although I think that homosexuality is disgusting, as well as sinful). And, as someone else with firsthand experience of belonging to a minority religion in Sinitic Asia, I can read your posts with a certain amount of sympathy.

I also am something of a fan of Pai Hsien-yung/Bai Xianyong, having read his _Taibei Ren_ in Chinese, along with some of his other works, such as "Yu Qin Sao" and some of his essays. A man's religion, change thereof, and sexual practices may still allow him to be a brilliant user of his native language. But, before we wax too eloquent on the "open-mindedness" of people in the Far East, don't you think that the average, heterosexual Chinese-speaker (whether Han or Hui), doesn't lend something of dismissive and contemptuous note when he speaks of "tongzhimen"? And, do you think that the average set of Chinese-speaking parents wouldn't be more than a little bothered to find out that the son whom they hoped might carry on the ancestral incense announces he's homosexual? After all, I did spend a fair amount of my adult life in Chinese-speaking Asia.

I take protestations that certain peoples are "cool" about homosexuality, bisexuality, or the sex industry in general with a very large grain of salt. I was told ad nauseam about how tolerant the Thai were, until I actually learned Thai and got posted to Bangkok. I found out that the editor who outed former Prime Minister Mom Rachawong Kukrit Pramoj as a bisexual went to prison for his troubles. Also, having the job of interviewing immigrant visa applicants (including LOTS of former sex workers for whom marriage to a beery, thrice-divorced Farang lout was a better exit from the profession than drowning herself in the canal at age 25), I found that almost all of the former prostitutes I einterviewed felt a very great sense of shame about their former situations.

Further, Taiwan always struck me as very conservative about almost everything sexual (although I admit that it is changing now). Sure, they might have been a lot more low-key about their dislike of homosexuality than conservative Americans might be, but their understanding of marriage was just as heterosexual as anyone else's, and the complaint of some of the more sexually hungry Westerners in-country that the local girls were overly modest hit at something in the local culture which I, for one, thought highly honorable and worthy of respect.

As for the Communists' keeping homosexuality criminal down to 1991 and treating it as mental illness down to 2001, I'll just say that one can have a fundamentally flawed system yet still retain some sound elements. It's Communist hatred for civil society, freedom of speech, perpetuation of revolutionary violence even after taking power, stifling most of the creative energies of a people, and cults of worthless "Great Leaders" that I dislike; along with the know-it-all bullying tone masquerading as science that permeates everything Marx and Engels ever wrote. A thing isn't necessarily wrong simply because Communists (or Muslims, or whoever) support it.

I'll also echo Katharina. Yes, we Christians look on homosexuality as a serious sin. But most of us also hold out hope for repentence and renewal for people struggling with that or other sins, and are not out to start stoning people over it. It would be no insult to me and most other Christians if you got hold of the New Testament and gave it a respectful reading. Your English seems good enough that the King James version wouldn't be too hard for you, while the Guoyu Hehe Ben and Xin Yi Ben are commendable Chinese translations.

What I meant was not the general homophobic attitude, or disdain for gays, but the fact that we have a civil society, no mentally sane member of the national legislature in an east asian country will try to push for the death penalty for gays. It would not be accepted. We generally don't hear reports of people in taiwan, south korea, going around murdering homosexuals all the time, or raping them in an attempt of "correction".

Africa is the most homophobic continent in the world. The majority of states which ban homosexuality are in africa, alot of gay africans are targeted by their fellow citizens for murder.

"The World's Worst Place to Be Gay?"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00yrt1c

This article from the western media says that American christians were responsible for stirring up hostility toward homosexuals, some homosexuals were raped or even killed, in an effort to "correct" them. It makes clear that its Ugandan Christians, not muslims, who are behind the bill in parliament to make the death penalty the punishment for homosexuality

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/04/world/africa/04uganda.html

"Uganda is an exceptionally lush, mostly rural country where conservative Christian groups wield enormous influence."

"I can defend them,” said Haj Medih, a Muslim taxi driver with many homosexual customers. “But I fear the what? The police, the government. They can arrest you and put you in the safe house, and for me, I don’t have any lawyer who can help me.”

and i know homophobia carries a connotation of its user being supportive of homosexuality in the english langauge, i'm just using it to describe dislike for gays

"Horse" quoted:

"I can defend them,” said Haj Medih, a Muslim taxi driver with many homosexual customers. “But I fear the what? The police, the government. They can arrest you and put you in the safe house, and for me, I don’t have any lawyer who can help me.”
.............................

"Horse" here implies that Muslims are tolerant of homosexuality, and that the only threat to gay people are Christians, but there is no Christian-majority country anywhere in the world—including Uganda—that has state-sponsored murder of homosexuals.

Would that that were true of Dar-al-Islam. Here are young gay men being hanged in the Islamic Republic of Iran:
