"We Muslims have an inferiority complex and are terribly sensitive to the world"

Raymond Ibrahim translates an article that elucidates a widespread phenomenon. "The Muslim World's Inferiority Complex," by Khaled Montaser in Hudson NY (via RaymondIbrahim.com), May 11:

A translation, abridged and introduced by Raymond Ibrahim

What if an entire civilization developed an inferiority complex? What ramifications would that have on the rest of the world? How would such paranoia play itself out in the interaction of civilizations?

An Arabic op-ed titled "The Broder Dilemma and Inferiority Complex," written by Muslim intellectual Khaled Montaser late last year portrays the Muslim world as suffering from just such an inferiority complex. Because it is immensely frank and exposes an important phenomenon, I have translated it below.

*****

We Muslims have an inferiority complex and are terribly sensitive to the world, feeling that our Islamic religion needs constant, practically daily, confirmation by way of Europeans and Americans converting to Islam. What rapturous joy takes us when a European or American announces [their conversion to] Islam—proof that we are in a constant state of fear, alarm, and chronic anticipation for Western validation or American confirmation that our religion is "okay." We are hostages of this anticipation, as if our victory hinges on it—forgetting that true victory is for us to create or to accomplish something, such as those [civilizations] that these converts to our faith abandon.

And we pound our drums and blow our horns [in triumph] and drag the convert to our backwardness, so that he may stand with us at the back of the world's line of laziness, [in the Muslim world] wherein no new scientific inventions have appeared in the last 500 years. Sometimes those who convert relocate to our countries—only to get on a small boat and escape on the high seas back to their own countries.

The dilemma which we Muslims imbibed from one end of the earth to the other—by way of our sons, our intellectuals, our youth, our elders, our men and our women—regards the German writer Henryk Broder. We celebrated him through our media and Internet sites, saying that he had converted to Islam, because he said "I have been saved from misguidance and have come to know the truth, returning to my natural state [fitriti, i.e., Islam]." Our writers and intellectuals portrayed Broder's statement as a slap to Germany's face, since he was one of the most critical opponents of Islam, but now he had announced his repentance.

Then the truth was immediately revealed and the embarrassing predicament which we imbibed of our own free will: for Broder is not to blame; he merely wrote a sarcastic article—but we are a people incapable of comprehending sarcasm, since it requires a bit of thinking and intellectualizing. And we read with great speed and a hopeful eye, not an eye for truth or reality. Some of us are struck with blindness when we read things that go against our hopes.

We actually imagined that the man was speaking truthfully and sincerely! Thus we drank from the bitter cup of failure and shame, products of our chronic ignorance and contemptuous feelings of inferiority and detestability.

[Translator's note: despite the fact that it is now common knowledge that Broder never converted, many popular Arabic/Muslim websites—including Al-Islam Al-Youm (Islam Today) Al-Sharuk News, Al-Moheet—continue to gloat under headlines like "Famous German embraces Islam after his long struggle against it."]...

Read it all.

This phenomena is any but phenomenal. After all, how can allah be great when his devoted people languish in squalor and misery while the wicked infidels enjoy prosperity and plenty? The problem is not inferiority but islam.

Thanks, Robert and thanks to Roland for translating.

I would also point out that Muslims are always trying to keep score, they are always claiming that Islam is the fastest growing religion, as if Allah is running for class president or something.

Turnspeak at its very best. A belief system predicated on the belief that it is so wonderful that its fundamental premise is to pursue the Cause to destroy all other belief systems... and now we're told they're suffering from an en masse inferiority complex.

*** 33:21 ***

Frankly, I was stunned when I belatedly discovered that Moslems regard themselves a cut above. Looking at them and how they act, seeing their poor performance, for years I naturally assumed that they suffered from a richly deserved inferiority complex. But then I came to know that it was the opposite.

This is perhaps the greatest irony in world history.

Is it still a complex if the inferiority is real and not imagined? Who on Earth is more culturally, educationaly, and spiritually more vacant and inferior than Islam.

No far from being a complex it is the last buried vestige of conscience they possess nagging them with the truth about themselves, and the religion they willingly enslave themselves to.

The irrationality, violence, and assinine mental gymnastics (IE Hijacker lloking for Bathroom) is due to the fact they know it's true but can't except it, because it hurts, because Islam has made them lazy in so many ways and to change is to require hard work, a certain amount of danger and a fear of an uncertain future.

"Some of us are struck with blindness when we read things that go against our hopes."

If it is any consolation, a lot of people in the US fell for Christopher Buckley's comment that Russia was selling off Lenin's body to raise money. Sometimes ... it happens.

....whew....I've heard some "tall" rationalizations before but this one takes the cake.

I can think of a number of pscho-social ailments the muslims have besides "inferiorityincluding, self-hatred, self-death wish, homosexuality (latest or overt), bestiality, desire to torture, maim and murder others....

They say that allah demands this of them. How rational for them. How convenient. How evil.

Every thing the bible says not to do, the koran says to do. In fact if you do them really well, you'll get the prize of all prizes 72 virgins in heaven. This should tell you all you need to know about who allah is. Baal

Islam's so brittle that it is incapable of withstanding any sort of critical analysis. The Koran and the "perfect man" example of Mohammed are so laughable that NBC's SNL would have a lifetime of skit material if only comedy writers had the guts and weren't general cowards. Burquinis anyone? Which explains why force is Islam's reflexive response to anything, giving animation to the phrase that when the only tool you have is a hammer, then every problem is a nail.

Not so long ago Khamenei invited "Islamic intellectuals" (giggle) to challenge the West. For those in the West who really do think - okay, that lets out / excuses the MSM and the university "academy" - this could be an enjoyable battle of wits since one side is utterly disarmed. Robert's been winning at this game for years so decidedly that none of the Islamic bigwigs will ever debate him, resorting only to name-calling and ad hominem attacks.

Christians are smeared mercilessly by the secularists. Do they riot? Of course not. For a simple reason. They have an inner confidence in themselves, in their ability to reason and use common sense, and in their faith. And they see how their conduct and thinking fit harmoniously within the context of a larger purpose.

None of this can be enjoyed by the Muslim who doesn’t know from one minute to the next whether allah loves him/her. "Did I pray 5 times today or only 4? I can't remember. Oh no, all my prayers have been for naught. Did I face Mecca or was I several degrees off? Did I follow exactly the Mohammed-prescribed method for ablutions?" And on and on. The Muslim mind so terribly tormented and wasted can never be at peace.

How can the pious submitters to Allah be inferior to anything but Allah? The whole religion(?) of Islam is driven by superiority...'You have coffee and you have tea, but I have Allah and he loves me'...He hates you...He describes you in Quran 98:6 as the worst of creatures...He has big plans for you in his combination dungeon and furnace room...
But the pious he likes...For them he gives non alcoholic wine, grapes, and rivers flowing under gardens, and all kinds of willing good looking women, and pearl like boys as well...
So it is obvious that Allah divides people up into the superior and the not so superior, who he loves and who he hates...The Pious and the Kufr...Almost sounds like a book title...If the pious feel inferior and insecure, they should apostate, they are not really paying much attention to Allah anyway...

No complex. Just inferior.

I think this helps to explain how Muslims can twist their brands into Gordian knot of rationalizations and inconsistencies and outright denial of obvious facts. Their faith absolutetly demands of them that they be superior in every way and any reasonable interpretation of the world would have to conclude that they are as behind the curve as any civilization has ever been.

I think this is fundamental to their hatred of America -- no country in Islamic history has been so far ahead of the Muslo powercurve as America

Yea, what you said.

Poor Muslims. With a "prophet" like this, they need to keep their heads down.
(pps) The Prophetess of Islam.
http://crossmuslims.blogspot.com/2011/01/prophetess-of-islam.html

This is why we must keep up the ridicule, and constant education.

I've long believed that most Muslims have nagging doubts, sometimes subliminal, about their absurd cult and this is why they get so hysterical at mere cartoons or criticisms of Mo, an obvious fraud, and refuse to debate with knowledgeable critics of Islam. These things bring out their doubts and they must resist these, even with violence or at least threats of violence.

Killing apostates & blasphemy laws are just means of protecting their warped and reduced minds from the unbearable but fairly obvious truth.

"no new scientific inventions have appeared in the last 500 years?'

Even that is a lie.

No new invention appeared in 1400 years of Mohammedansim.

I believe it was Lao-Tzu who observed that "Those who know do not speak and those who speak do not know." Ibrahim's translation of Montaser's article ended with Islam being contrasted with Buddhism and I couldn't help thinking that Buddhism has that sublime silence about itself which betokens wisdom and knowledge and Islam never shuts up respecting what it is about. Telling in each instance as Lao-Tzu noted.

Another manifestation of their inferiority complex is Taqiyya Tactic 10 - 'You owe us a debt of gratitude because Islam is the basis of Western civilisation'.
This sort of statement is usually backed up by revisionist arguments that Muslims invented everything and were responsible for the Renaissance (Sheikh Speare was a Muslim playwright etc).

In some ways this is a rather pathetic quest for significance. Muslim culture has been moribund for the past 600 years, whereas the West has forged ahead. Muslims now want a stake in the success story by claiming they were somehow responsible for the West's development... http://crombouke.blogspot.com/2010/01/twelve-tactics-of-taqiyya.html

I think this "INFERORITY COMPLEX" may be their subconscious mind reacting to the basic evil inherent in Islam! Deep in their souls they realize that by insisting muslims kill apostates and those opposed to the spread of Allah's reign of terror(sharia law) certainly does not show an omnipotent god who can defend himself like the one true God of the bible does! Rather it show the world how pathetic they are! Without the death penalty for leaving Islam and forced "conversions" Islam would be a house rotting away.

Sean. You done me in with that one . .'Sheikh Speare was a Muslim playwright'. .calls for a pint of Fallstaff's old sack.

The feeling of "inferiority" that muslims sense is their consciences convicting them of the evil that is Islam! The fact that they are compelled to kill apostates and physically oppose unbelievers by waging physical jihad against those not Islamic shows the world how pathetic Islam is! Allah cannot even defend his own honor unlike the one true God of the bible! Without a manditory death penalty for apostastes and physically waging war against unbelievers to force their conversions, Isalm would collapse like a house of cards on a windy day!

It's not a complex, it's civilization shame. It's not an illusion or sickness. They worship Satan, they are his children (spiritually), they are lost. They missed the boat when as a civilization they followed the false prophet Mohammud.

An Arab Human Development Report 2002 says that the Arabs had translated fewer books into Arabic in the last 1000 years than Spain translates into Spanish in a single year. The Arab world is incredibly backward in other ways as well, and because of the internet and modern communications, knows it. Thus the inferiority complex, which apparently is not commonly linked to problems with Islam, but in the future may increasingly be laid at Islam's door. That seems to be happening in Iran, to some extent.

Very well said. Hard to improve on that analysis...

Yep. Inbreeding. Plain and simple. Generations of it at "work" here.

Alternate Headline:

"We Muslims suffer from border-line malignant personality disorder, coupled with a psycho-sexual based inferiority complex, which makes us terrible people who don't give a shit about the sensitivities of the rest of the world."

I mostly quit reading the great Sheikh's writings when I found the writings of that one great Chief---CHIEF CORNERSTONE!

Raymond translated, not Roland. Raymond is a native speaker but non-muslim and incredibly articulate and intelligent.

Immortal lines from the Bard of Islam, Shaykh Spear

A goat, by any other name, would bleat as sweet

Friends, nomads, Muslimeen lend me your ears
I come not to bury Usama, but to drop him in the sea.

The child bride doth ullulate much, methinks

Though this be madness, yet there is Islam in it

Out damned Jew, Out I say

Wallahi, poor Yusuf ... I knew him, Abdullah
A fellow of infinite cruelty, of most excellent savagery

Neither a kaffir nor an apostate be

O infidel, infidel wherefore art thou infidel
Deny thy Saviour, and refuse thy faith

A goat, a goat my sheikhdom for a goat!!

If they did not have their oil, the middle east would be 10 times the hell hole it already is today. They know this, so it's no wonder they feel bitter and resentful. They believe their religion is superior so they cling to it like a life raft, without it they wouldn't have a single thing to feel superior about, a pitiable fate.

I don't think they are feeling an inferiority complex. The minute a Muslim starts to doubt his deserved place in the world and the supremacy of his religion, he's essentially an apostate. No, what I think most are feeling is FEAR of Allah for the piss-poor job they are doing.

The Muslims I've met sure don't seem to be suffering from inferiority, most of them treat infidels like bugs. And of course Islam makes them lazy, THEY are not the ones supposed to be doing the work in an ideal Allah-approved world. It's the dhimmis. When Israel declared themselves a state the Muslim world did something very stupid and very un-Islamic: they started a program to drive all the Jews out of their countries because of their anger. These were the generations of artisans and scientists and professional people, a massive brain-and education drain that exists to this day. It's not "study hard and one day you'll have everything you want", it's "subjugate, and someday you'll have everything you want".

Muslims aren't feeling inferior as much as they are feeling embarrassed by their predicament. They are princes standing in the mud looking angrily over the wall at infidels who should be working for THEM. There just aren't any good rationalizations for it either. Either Allah is a sham, or he exists and is VERY pissed that a few Jews are making monkeys out of you. Take your pick.

"...but we [Muslims] are a people incapable of comprehending sarcasm, since it requires a bit of thinking and intellectualizing."

Only sarcasm? How about adding satire, similes, caricatures, euphemisms, parody, hyperbole, allegories, metaphors, in fact the whole gamut of words involved in verbal indirection that require "a bit of thinking and intellectualizing?"

Then, of course, there's the whole field of humor, of which Muslims are also notably deficient. What about music...hell, the entire list of intellectual endeavors in the world?

Big Pete wrote:

............................

This is nothing new, Big Pete. Even in the 7th-century, Muslims felt a great sense of inferiority even when confronted with the Infidels of the dark ages backwater of Arabia.

Qu'ran 9:85:

"And let not their wealth and their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in this world and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers."

If that was true then, how much more is it true now, confronted by the innovative, wealthy, well-educated, and highly civilized West?

The only time Muslims *haven't* had an "inferiority complex" is when they are conquering, enslaving, and oppressing Kaffirs, and living like parasites off their productive labor. Ugh.

A friend of mine (trained as a psychologist) once tried to explain to me how an inferiority complex usually gets hidden by a very pretentious "superiority" complex. I wasn't too interested in the subject then, so I can't remember the reasoning, but this article reminded me of that episode.

On a lighter note, is it just me, but the ads I see here on this page are offering to help convert me - *me* - to the religion of inferiority complexes? Should I click madly on it just to raise some money for JW?

Hilariously transposed collection of stanzas there Lennie. Thanks for the chuckle.

. .can almost hear Lawrence Olivier delivering those lines in the close company of friends for the giggle. .

Or Peter Sellars via Larry? Remember his Hard Days Night?

. .at risk of straying too far off the point, Olivier's character ,'Herr Lieberman' in 'The Boys from Brazil' has gently reminded me that the battle goes on. Power of good to The David Horovitz Freedom Centre and The Simon Wiezenthal Foundation.

Ha. Yes. Nice cast logdon.

Muslim inferiority complex? Add in a constant state of infantile arrested development and the mosaic builds.

We can see the pattern of a combination of envy and a thin skin which transforms that envy into acute enmity and projection.

This is then fed by the constant hate filled exhortians of imams, meaning essentially, that they are kept within a permanent condition of beligerent ignorance.

They, knowing nothing else because knowing and questioning is anathama within the confines of Islam, believe those howling bearded ones to the letter and the spiral begins.

Add in the massive illiteracy rates and a picture further develops.

It then gets worse. Much worse.

Instead of the logic of looking inwards and repairing the fault, they are bound by the immutability and so called perfection of the Koran into blaming others.

A kind of double helix comes into play

They are superior because the Koran tells them so.

However by any yardstick it is clear that the West beats them hands down whether in technology, culture, freedom, earning capacity or living standard.

Thus an inferiority complex grows, creating a mental clash. Which is it to be?

Superior or second rate? The two cannot be reconciled and thus another solution must be offered.

That basically is to blame the West. And that is where we stand now.

Unfortunately helping them via aid or sharing is a patent failure because it either reinforces the perception of inferiority or is regarded as a right of jizya.

So, what to do with this bawling, homicidal infant?

It's telling that following the massive defeats in Europe and then colonisation, Islam retreated into itself. And into the geographical confines of its conception. All was quiet on the Eastern Front for centuries.

It seems to me that this is the only way to tame this monster.

We have to confine them. We have to ringfence our precious liberties. We have to abandon multiculturalism and our generous pluralistic attitudes. We have to end our insane immigrant welfare programmes. (In Denmark, for instance over fifty percent of benefit payments go to two percent of the population. They are Muslim immigrants.)

It's clear that sharing with the kuffar is an unknown concept within Islam and all so called outreach is both scorned as weakness or trampled upon as a foothold for further encroachment.

This encroachment is encouraged by a liberal entity and is growing like topsy within the Obamafied US whilst paradoxically Europe is now emerging from the self defeating torpor.

The names Geert Wilders, Thilo Sarrazin, Elisabeth Sabbaditch Woolf, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Kurt Westergaard, Flemming Rose, Marine Le Pen, Lars Hedegaard and many others spring to mind.

All is not lost. Meanwhile let the Muslims wallow in their inferiority. Just as long as they do it within the confines of Dar el Islam, that's fine by me.

Superb analysis. Especially the metaphor of the descending double helix. It explains a lot about the dynamics of the whirlpool that is Muhammedanism.

. .and if, prehaps, they were sensitive to The Word, as-in John 1:1, maybe their worldly 'sensitivies' wouldn't get so, be so jaded.

They won't though. Remember, according to them Christianity is merely pre islamic Islam to be later refashioned by Mohammed.

Nothing is beyond these opportunistic thieves.

Granted, a lot of them won't, yet some of them will make the leap of faith. .those who enjoyed the benefits, especially in the fields of education/employment /entertainment that we have afforded them, and that they have worked for, should be held to account for their choices. Let's hope, for their sakes that their labours were not entirely in vain as Mohammad's most certainly were.

I have thought a lot about this article since I first read it. And I think that it is just an attempt at scathing sarcastic humor on the part of the author. I believe he is trying to whip up a frenzy of readers like us into actually believing the crap he's written so that he could have a tit-for-tat. I don't think he's actually sincere. Perhaps it's just another taqquiya attempt. I don't know because I haven't read any of his other stuff.

Even though I trust in Ibrahim's translation skills, this just seems like slimy snake oil to me. Maybe it's just me but does anyone else get that feeling?

In complete agreement lorfalcon. .it whiffs. On a quick scan it reads as parody, yet on closer inspection there are things missing. It ties in with logdon's double-helix, where strands are out of kilter. Difficult to explain right now as I'm rushing and need to concentrate.

"Always keeping score" Yes, also manipulating the score, for example when CAIR inflated the number of Muslims in US to 6-7 million and growing (actual number around 2 million?) they were competing with the Jewish population in the US, pushing for more political clout. Facts be dammed.

For clarification's sake, might it not have been better to include Kahled Montaser's name in your comment, seeing as he was the author?
