For various reasons, some good, many Western universities are keen to establish Islamic Studies programs. And for various other reasons, the same is true of Islamist organizations -which tend toward a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam. To this end, with a professed goal of fostering "understanding" of Islam, the latter offer hefty financial endowments to universities.Some critics worry that such a scenario may be in progress at Huron University College, an affiliate of University of Western Ontario (UWO). Huron offers post-baccalaureate and professional degree programs in theology. The College recently accepted a $2-million endowment for a new Chair in Islamic Studies within the College's historically Anglican Faculty of Theology. About half the money is to come via fundraising facilitated by the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC), and the other, matching half from the Virginia-based International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT). A cofounder of the latter group was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 2007-2008 trial of Sami al-Arian, an Islamist academic linked to jihadism.
On April 5, 26 self-identified "alumni, friends and faculty" of the university signed on to a letter written by UWO associate professor of economics John Palmer, protesting acceptance of the endowment (Google "electecon, islamic chair" for the full text of the letter). In it, Palmer contends that although MAC and IIIT claim they are moderate and democratic organizations, their approach is influenced by Imam Hassan Al-Banna, founder and even decades after his death still ideological guru of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), who, according to the MAC website, "best exemplifies [a] balanced, comprehensive understanding of Islam."
In Egypt and elsewhere, the Muslim Brotherhood often presents itself as tolerant in its outlook. Yet it has radical roots. A 1991 memorandum written by one member of the Muslim Brotherhood Shura Council proposed that Muslim settlement in Canada and the United States be viewed as a "'Civilization-Jihadist Process,' with all the word means. The Ikhwan [MB] must understand that their work in America is kind of a grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house." To my knowledge, neither principals of MAC nor of IIIT have ever distanced themselves from or denounced this pernicious statement....
On the face of it, this looks like it could backfire. Studying the Qur'an and the related texts would soon bring a reasonably intelligent person to the correct conclusion that Islam is a fraud sustained by a pack of lies.
To succeed, the 2 million bucks must be seen as an inducement to go along with the practiced deceptions about Islam being the religion of peace, etc...

I've long been concerned over how ignorant Infidels have been over Islam. Certainly, until about ten years ago I had to include myself, as well. I learned almost nothing about Islam in school, and certainly nothing of use. I was becoming more and more alarmed about Islam in the years leading up to 9/11, but I didn't really start to learn about Islam until after that vicious Jihad attack.
As much as absolute ignorance of Islam puts us at a disadvantage, though, there is something very much worse—and that is digesting enormous amounts of deliberate disinformation about Islam, its history, its texts, and its aims.
As unprepared as we have been to face the scourge of Islam, Jihad, and Shari'ah, I fear that, through cluelessly allowing Jihadists to fund and shape "Islamic Studies Programs", that we are rending a new generation far more disarmed than we ever were.

There are no greater fools than academic fools and the Islamic world is playing upon this. As a fine example, just look at John Esposito at Georgetown and the money that has come Georgetown's way because of him, all this proving once again that there is a difference often times between wisdom and formal education.
It appears to me that the president of UWO is a Muslim. He is not the first Muslim university president in Canada. I don't believe due diligence was or will be done in this case. I think it is creeping sharia and am not sure where it got started or where it will stop. It is certainly a major concern. It is a well known fact that the multiculturalism forced on Europe and Canada by liberals who fail(ed) to recognize that not all cultures are equal. It will definitely bring trouble that nobody wants. I hope they figure it out soon and correct these serious errors.

"Islamic studies" is another muslim oxymoron! To study something is to critically examine it. Islamic "studies" is simply Islamic indoctrination in the world of evil: with discrimination,apartheid, mass murder, lying, theft, pedophilia, rape, spousal abuse, being among the chapters to be memorized and followed without question! Any university that would accept money for such a program is simply a WHORE!
