The work of Syed Saleem Shahzad of Asia Times Online has appeared many times here at Jihad Watch. You can see here that he was closely monitoring jihad activity in Pakistan -- and given their preference for working under the cover of darkness, it is only natural that they would want him dead.
"Missing Pakistani journalist found dead in Punjab," from AP, May 31 (thanks to Jaladhi):
ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani journalist who investigated al-Qaida's alleged infiltration of the country's navy was found dead on Tuesday, and police said there were signs he'd been tortured. The journalist, Syed Saleem Shahzad of the Asia Times Online, had been missing for two days. He had told a rights activist in recent months that he feared the country's intelligence agencies planned to retaliate against him over some of his reporting. Shahzad's stories on the alleged infiltration followed a deadly 18-hour militant siege of a naval base earlier last week in Karachi....
Human Rights Watch researcher Ali Dayan Hasan said that the 40-year-old Shahzad had told him he feared that the spy agencies were after him, and that he had received a veiled threat in a meeting with a navy officer at the headquarters of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency in October.
Shahzad forwarded notes from that meeting to Hasan, saying in an email that it was for the "record only if in case something happens to me or my family in future." The rights activist also said he was told by some Pakistani government officials that they believed Shahzad was in ISI custody.
A senior Pakistani intelligence official denied allegations that the agency had anything to do with Shahzad's case.
"It's absurd," the official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to media on the record....
It is not in the least absurd. The ISI is linked to the Mumbai jihad attacks, and to other jihad activity. Why wouldn't it take out a journalist who got too close to things they didn't want known?
The Committee to Protect Journalists says that Pakistan was the deadliest country for journalists in 2010, with at least eight media workers killed in the line of duty. Six of the journalists in Pakistan were killed in suicide attacks, the group said. The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists strongly condemned Shahzad's killing, and demanded a high-level investigation.
"This is tragic," said Amin Yousuf, secretary-general of the union. "We are losing our professional colleagues but the government never unearths who is behind the killing of journalists."
Gee, I wonder why.
surpise, surprise, surprise!!!
Now wait a minute. I thought the ISI-Mujahadeen alliance had long ago established itself as the worst kept secret in world history, with only officials at the State Dept and the Pentagon not clued in.

So why would the ISI murder a reporter who documented what everybody already knew? A little excessive, I think.
Journalist who investigated al-Qaeda infiltration of Pakistan's navy found murdered -- had feared retaliation from Pakistan's jihad-linked spy service

This poor man. Yes, I have read Syed Saleem Shahzad's work many times, both here at Jihad Watch and elsewhere.
Islam has always been intent on crushing freedom of speech.
Not only in Pakistan, but the "Arab Spring" has taken quite a toll on journalists, as well.
Murderers of Daniel Pearl and other investigative reporters are hard at work as they did to Saleem Shahzad. Islam doesn't tolerate truth about itself and kills to prevent its coming out. What a murderous cult it is and its followers, about 1.5 billion of them, can't see the truth about Islam. Brain dead morons!!!
Can we expect empathy for the tragically murdered journalist Mr. Shahzad by Caliph Hussein Obama? No, but Hussein will keep arming the double-tongue Muslim Pakistan's Govt with billions of dollars of weapons, as he wants to arm 60 billions of weapons to the equally double-tongue Saudi Arabia!
I expect he found out something a bit more concrete, like names which would prove to be VERY costly to the ISI.
Other than that, they would murder someone poking their nose around just because they could, and it satisfies the bloodthirsty nature of mohammedans.
No matter what Pakistan or Pakistani's do, Rasool Obama will keep the jizya going...He is really good about giving other peoples money to Islamic despots, even when there is no money to give..But why should he worry, he can always borrow some more from China...
Rasool Obama will keep the jizya going...He is really good about giving other peoples money to Islamic despots
And all mannger of other kinds of losers too.
... even when there is no money to give..But why should he worry, he can always borrow some more from China...
But ya gotta admit, with those big ears our Prez bears an erie resemblance to Alfred E. Newman, who spaketh years ago in Mad Magazine: "What, me worry?"
The Chinese arm Pakistan and lend money to the Americans so they would arm Pakistan too. Who's gaining?
'Bout time the ISI is listed as an Islamic terrorist organization. In fact, the time is way overdue for this. But then that would inch closer to identifying Islam, the more purely it is followed, as the real culprit. And we can't have that now, can we? The games continue.
It sounds like China is threatening us in case we kill another terrorist in Pakistan. Wow... you would have thought they will watch the show from the sideline,
There is a lots of risk for everyone. What do they gain by supporting the Pakistanies?
Bout time the ISI is listed as an Islamic terrorist organization." -
I can better that - Bout time Pakistan is listed as an Islamic terrorist State.
silence those who would dare to speak the truth about Islam..it is the Muslim modus operandi...if you can't silence their ability to freely speak...then kill them...and the Muslims have no problems with killing them..Theo Van Gogh, Pim Fortuyn, Muslims who converted to Christianity, news reporters, moderate clerics who were deemed not Muslim enough, teachers, politicians, newspaper editors and writers, and many others...Islam rules through the use of fear....Dare to speak the truth about Islam and you will offend Muslims and you must be silenced .....one way or the other...it's the Islamic way...
You did indeed one-up me. My compliments. What a wretched excuse for a nation Pakistan is. Here again I am reminded of Ralph Peters' trenchant description of it---chaos with a parliament. Courtesy of Islam I might add.
America is presently stuck respecting what to do with Pakistan. It's the only Muslim country that has nuclear weapons and so America right now is in the business (which great powers have been from time immemorial) of buying off the less bad portion of another political entity in order to insure that the worst of the lot in such an entity doesn't, in fact, do their worst. It's a game that every great power has played at times since no great power can directly fight every menace everywhere. After all, even great powers have their limits and so evil has to be bought off at times rather than militarily defeated every time. America is no exception to this rule, but I sometimes catch myself thinking that it would be a beautiful thing if America could spike every last nuclear weapon in Pakistan. Won't happen under Obama, that's for sure. Not sure it will happen at all. Complicated situation, again courtesy of man's worst religion of all time---and courtesy too of more than a modicum of ignorance by the elites in the West respecting knowledge of this oh so burdensome religion. Yep, the times are out of joint.
They want to remove American allies (or "allies" in this case) and turn them over to their side since they seriously mean to contest India as a regional superpower and the US as a global superpower. And the way Obamadmin is borrowing from the Chinese while at the same time dumping allies and "allies" left and right all US' enemies and rivals sure feel they're on a roll. What is the US gonna do? Risk getting in a fight with China when 1. the US ows to China more than it can ever pay back, 2. its other greatest debt holder (Japan, no?) just had such a devastating series of natural disatsers that it might financially collapse (and therefore is pretty likely to sell the American debt to.. er.. China? I doubt the Chinese are stupid enough to buy it), and 3. the US just happens to be busy fighting 3 wars in Muslim countries? Under these circumstances will they get into a fight with China? I don't think they can afford to. So the Chinese can say whatever they want.
I hope the Americans will rid themselves of Obama in the nearest next stop, but with their media still salivating over him I'm not sure enough Americans realize the train wreck that is the Obamadmin. If they don't get it right on 2012 then by the time they will get it right they'll be broke, friendless, eternally indebted to China, and with a government that regulates them down to their bathroom habits. And their wealthy businessmen as well as their best and brightest will probably find communist China friendlier taxes-wise.
BlueRaven, sorry, I should have said "you" and not "they" since you're an American. For some reason it slipped my mind by the time I started replying to you. I missed too many sleeping hours being over-busy lately. Well, it's either that or dementia is getting an early start on me.
..the Pak Navy, retaliation, and murder. The Karachigate scandal in 2002 had those same elements. (according to wikipedia and wikileaks:) The ISI was upset with newly elected French President Chirac for cancelling all kick-back payments; so someone in the ISI got an al Qaeda suicide bomber to blow up 11 French submarine engineers working in Pakistan.
What will it take for this country to wake up to the insanity of funneling billions of our dollars to support these Sharia driven countries that have their heads stuck in the Arabian sands of the past which only hold the bodies of million of countless dead exterminated for no other reason than not accepting Islam? How can we ever expect anything from this ideology that bases itself on death, destruction, and slavery to indoctrination at the hands of indoctrinated followers? They cannot possibly think out of the box because they are the box. Journalist's, free men, wise men, philosophers use thought and debate and rational intelligence, this does not fit in well with Islam. We need to come to the conclusion that there is no choice but to cut off those countries that want nothing to do with the rest of the cultured world and that means withholding all monies, and trade and anything that has to do with the continuance of these radical societies that cannot change.
This is terrible news and very sad. I had been reading Syed Saleem Shahzad's reports for years in Asia Times Online. I found him to be by far the best reporter on events in Afghanistan and Pakistan. You could always count on him delivering an unvarnished picture, neither sugarcoating the situation on the ground nor unduly dramatizing for effect.
He was fearless, often going into the lair of the Taliban with no guarantee that he would make it back out alive. The Taliban used him as a conduit for announcing their plans but their unpredictability and their internal conflicts meant that he could be turned into a casualty at any time, more so as he never hid his lack of sympathy for them.
That he now appears to have been murdered by Pakistan's security forces is very hard to take. Pakistanis like him are the only (slim) hope of the country facing up to its many problems.
R.I.P. Mr Shahzad, I will not forget you.
I'm sure he'd find the comparison to the najis porcine detestible. A compliment if you know anything about pigs, and I think you might.
Ah ! What would you expect from Pakistanis 67% of whom , in a recent "Gallop Pakistan" opinion poll , replied in affirmative when asked "Should Pak government take steps to Islamise the society ?" ! Only 13% believed there is no need for "Islamisation" while 20% gave no response ! So this 21st century nation overwhelmingly and willingly wants to be ruled under the draconic Islamic "Shariat" law which advocates capital punishment for the so called acts of "blasphey", "adultry" ! God save this barbaric country from causing havoc to the rest of the world with thye help of Taliban and Al-Quaida ! Inshallah !
