Pakistani security forces protected Osama bin Laden for 10 years

No surprise here. "WikiLeaks: Osama bin Laden 'protected' by Pakistani security," by Tim Ross in the Telegraph, May 2 (thanks to Mehreen):

Pakistani security forces allegedly helped Osama bin Laden evade American troops for almost 10 years, according to secret US government files. Pakistani army soldiers secure the compound where Osama Bin Laden leader of Al-Qaeda, was killed in an operation, in Abbotabad, Pakistan
American diplomats were told that one of the key reasons why they had failed to find bin Laden was that Pakistan’s security services tipped him off whenever US troops approached.

Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate (ISID) also allegedly smuggled al-Qaeda terrorists through airport security to help them avoid capture and sent a unit into Afghanistan to fight alongside the Taliban.

The claims, made in leaked US government files obtained by Wikileaks, will add to questions over Pakistan’s capacity to fight al-Qaeda.

Last year, David Cameron caused a diplomatic furore when he told Pakistan that it could not “look both ways” on terrorism. The Pakistani government issued a strongly-worded rebuttal.

But bin Laden was eventually tracked down and killed in compound located just a few hundred yards from Pakistan’s prestigious military academy in Abbotabad.

The raid by elite US troops was kept secret from the government of Pakistan. Only a tight circle within the Obama Administration knew of the operation.

In December 2009, the government of Tajikistan warned the United States that efforts to catch bin Laden were being thwarted by corrupt Pakistani spies.

According to a US diplomatic dispatch, General Abdullo Sadulloevich Nazarov, a senior Tajik counterterrorism official, told the Americans that “many” inside Pakistan knew where bin Laden was.

The document stated: “In Pakistan, Osama Bin Laden wasn’t an invisible man, and many knew his whereabouts in North Waziristan, but whenever security forces attempted a raid on his hideouts, the enemy received warning of their approach from sources in the security forces.”

Intelligence gathered from detainees at Guantanamo Bay may also have made the Americans wary of sharing their operational plans with the Pakistani government....

Man, that must've been a hard weigh-up in the hands of those in the know. .juggling jizya and a bounty must be awful complicated, 'specially if you're factoring in back-handers from drug-barons and praying 5 times a day. Confusing to say the least.

That means it wasn't just corrupt Pakistani spies helping Bin Laden, it was official Pakistani policy.

I demand to know why we let them get away with it for a decade. This isn't Obama's fault. It was happening under Bush too.

We finally got Bin Laden but we still have to make the ISI PAY FOR THEIR DECADE OF VILLANOUS TREACHERY.

"You are with us or you are against us." The ISI are against us. I vote we unite with India's intelligence services to crush them.

Pakistan has been the open , obvious shelter for many of al-quaids operatives, from osama down. The less noticed and very well guarded secret refuge used by osama personally for his most treasured things ie; wives, children and cash has been iran.
Iran serves as the ultimate sanctuary for the Wests nemesis. Few have taken notice of how in the case of saddam hussein , as much as he warred with the iranians, he still sent his air force to iran to take refuge when the US was attacking him. Even less have been curious about osamas choice of iran to use as refuge when it came to shielding his own sons , family and monetary assets.

The iranin link is by far the deepest guarded secret asset in terms of assistance, support and alliance between the top islamic operatives which include osama's al-qaeda, and pakistani government jihadists.

The iranin link runs deep and on a grand scale their operatives have carefully been able to hide their close association with al qaeda and many other jihadist groups.

Is anyone shocked? Pakistan and Afghanistan have used us for YEARS. They have taken our "aid" and money, and have NEVER cared about fighting terrorists. They have used America and other countries to GET MONEY, yet their people live in abject poverty, which is why most of them do what they are told by the terrorist organizations - "do this or we will kill you" "Do this for food for your family"

It is a freaking mess.

I'm not sure what you mean here, Koolit—do you hope Pakistan will not "get in trouble" with civilized nations because they protected Osama bin Laden and have served as a general haven for Jihad terrorists, or do you hope they will not "get in trouble" with Dar-al-Islam and Jihad apologists for allowing bin Laden to be taken out?

Well, I hope so, too. But *do not expect it*. Jihad is intrinsic to Islamic doctrine, and will not disappear with the death of bin Laden.

Al Qaida has, no doubt, been one of the very worst Jihad terror groups—but they are hardly alone.

If you are a regular reader here you will be aware that Jihad terror is being carried out all over the world, well beyond the scope of even so horrific a figure as bin Laden.

Folks....Pakistan had been screwing with us for years, going well back into the depths of the cold war, because we thought India was some kind of Soviet ally. It was idiotic, but president after president as gone out of their way to make nice with Pakistan. Our military has been part problem as well, because I have seen a lot of old U.S. officers and generals, not all mind you, on TV the last 10 years raving about our "ally" Pakistan.Heck even last night some were still doing it...

We just need to face the facts that Pakistan has ripped us off, the Pakistani government which is the military, despite the fake me out democracy they every so often claim to have, is our enemies. They are just as responsible for 9/11 and the world wide jihad as the OBL...

There was no greater enemy for Osama than free traders, he hated them more than he hated infidels and apostates. Osama knew that free trade would result in a new world order, bleeding Muslims dry and leaving only Atheists to prosper. His strike at the WTC was an expression of his refusal to accept secular ideology.

India has been saying for years that ISI supports terror groups while acting as an ally of war on terror on the frontside. The very fact that Osama was in fortified house so at walking distance to the Paki academy is itself a proof. Even during the Mumbai attacks on Noc 26/11 ,India has submitted proof that ISI was involved . Indias main gangster Dawood is Karachi and has been seen on TV but still Pakistan denies his existence.

The ONLY US foreign aid should be in the form of our Army Corps of Engineers building/rebuilding infrastructures for the common people (protected by a U.S. military force). And, that should only be done for countries who uphold the inalienable rights of all.
