Tiny Minority of Extremists, Plus Six. And two imams among them. Gee, you'd think they'd know enough about Islam not to "misunderstand" it like that.
CNN's breaking news banner currently describes the two as imams. More to come as updates become available. "3 Americans Charged with Helping Pakistani Taliban," from Fox News, May 14:
Six individuals located in South Florida and Pakistan have been indicted on charges of providing financing and other material support to the Pakistani Taliban, the Department of Justice announced Saturday.
"Today terrorists have lost another funding source to use against innocent people and U.S. interests. We will not allow this country to be used as a base for funding and recruiting terrorists," said John V. Gillies, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Miami Office.
Three of the charged are U.S. citizens. The four-count indictment charges 76-year-old Hafiz Muhammed Sher Ali Khan and his two sons Irfan Khan, 37, and Izhar Khan, 24, all U.S. citizens and Florida residents. Three other individuals residing in Pakistan, Ali Rehman, aka "Faisal Ali Rehman;" Alam Zeb; and Amina Khan, aka "Amina Bibi," are also charged in the indictment. Amina Khan is the daughter of Khan and her son, Alam Zeb, is Khan's grandson.
All six defendants are charged with conspiring to provide, and providing, material support to a conspiracy to murder, maim and kidnap persons overseas, as well as conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, specifically, the Pakistani Taliban.
Defendants Khan, Rehman and Zeb are also charged with providing material support to the Pakistani Taliban.
FBI agents arrested Hafiz and Izhar in South Florida Saturday, while Ifran was arrested in Los Angeles.
If convicted, each faces a potential 15 years in prison for each count of the indictment.
UPDATE: The latest version of the report at Fox has added this paragraph (with obligatory disclaimers), confirming that two imams were among the indicted:
The defendants are originally from Pakistan. Hafiz Khan is the Imam at the Miami Mosque, also known as the Flagler Mosque. His son, Izhar Khan, is an Imam at the Jamaat Al-Mu'mineen Mosque in Margate, Fla. The indictment does not charge the mosques themselves with any wrongdoing, and the individual defendants are charged based on their provision of material support to terrorism, not on their religious beliefs or teachings.
We're sure to hear they're swell guys -- no, "decent fellows" -- and their congregations are just... shocked!

Tiny Minority of Extremists....
Libya buries 11 dead imams killed in Nato strike
Imams present at Friday’s news conference in the Libyan capital called for revenge.
They urged Muslims across the world to kill “1,000 people for each dead imam” across the world, namely in “France, Italy, Denmark, Britain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.”

No doubt CAIR is on the job. I think we will hear from them in quite short order.
imams are vectors
Imagine that, a couple of imams, pillars of the muslim community...spit....
Yes, good point! They are an example of what's really going on in the "community". After all most muslims take their cues from them. Yet another reason to stop allowing mosques to be built . If I had my way I'd make them tear down all the existing mosques and create laws that banned all street praying, better known as marking territory too.
"Hafiz Muhammed Sher Ali Khan"
A "hafiz" is one who has memorized the Qur'an by heart. No doubt it gave Imam Khan the Elder great authority within his South Florida mosque. His "congregation" will be quite distressed that he and his family have been arrested. They will not be distressed that the family broke the law and aided Muslim terrorists in Pakistan, only that they got caught. It is quite likely that a number of others within that community are similarly guilty, and they, too, should be rooted out.
Question: Hafiz Khan the elder is 76 years old and is originally from Pakistan. How is it that this man is a American citizen? Perhaps by marriage?
Work out a deal - offer them to Islamabad in lieu of Osama's wives
Yes Eastview, almost certainly by marriage. It's not too much of a stretch to surmise he's 76, youngest son 24 =52 when he added to his harem and married a retarded fat, ugly American women to gain entry to the enemies liar. They have undoubtedly indoctrinated numerous people in these mosques and close scrutiny should now be the order of the day for the the followers of these jihadists.
Of course there are exceptions, but generally I'd say all Imams in the US are subversive traitors to our constitution and should be booted out of this country if they weren't born here and imprisoned(solitary) if they were.
Sorry, No offense meant to any fat, any ugly, any American women who isn't retarded and marries a foreign born imam!
Here's the article on the Miami Herald:

The comments are surprisingly savvy!
Ah, the Iman of the Flagler mosque...
Years ago, he had--may still have--an interfaith outreach at Florida International University*. The woman in charge of the Catholic mission/outreach at the University was in love with his people, wanted to sponsor a COEXIST pole (I'm not making this up), and could not hear contrarian opinions from a heathen such as myself, about the nature of Islam.
I wonder if this episode will make her reconsider... but I don't wonder that much, as I fully expect her to rationalize it away, and go full speed ahead. Such as the nature of leftist true believers.
* FIU is a big public University in Miami. Has more students than FSU or UF.
"We're sure to hear they're swell guys -- no, "decent fellows" -- and their congregations are just... shocked!"
Shocked that the FBI caught 'em, more like...
Forget all about these imams, focus on al-quaida, remember,
look over there, these muslims in our midst are just practicing their constitutional freedom of "religion", nothing to worry about.
Let's see, the taliban, supporters of al-quaida, at war and fighting against our nations soldiers, and a group in our soil supporting the taliban? how more treasonous and seditious can this clearly be.
death to islam
I'm at war with isalm.
Settle down boys...the tax evasion laws are just around the corner.Imams are the target.Need I say more.
The congregations are shocked that anybody would have the nerve to arrest a Muslim.
{^_-}
Ha. Yes. .especially a . .GASP! NO WAY!!. . a HAFIZ. Please spare the the histrionics. The guy's an out-and-out traitor. We all know what George Patton would have done with him.
The previous Pope, John Paul II tried to value the positive aspects of Islam, as we must do in every encounter with each other. The Muslim is first and foremost a believer, who placed the transcendence of God first in his life, and who from this point prays. The Muslim is a person who has the ethical principles that in more than one point are connected to those of Christians. He is placed in the line of Abraham and recognize a special place for Jesus and Mary.
This is why John Paul II agrees on some points with Muslims, for example on the fight against abortion, which has become virtually free in the West.
john vondra, what do you think about Mohammed?
What you describe is a form of Religious Imperialism, not respect.
"must"?
He is NOT in the line of Abraham - he follows a usurper. The ethical principals are in opposition. Human sacrifice is but one example. For those who believe in the divinity of Jesus the recognition is a negation.
I guess we have a very different view of good and evil.
This was the top story on the front page of The Miami Herald! The light has started to shine on these "peaceful" mohammadans! Hallelujah and may allah be braised!
Why is this latest brickbrained troll John Vondra living in the West? Doesn't he belong in Iran, Pakistan or Somalia?
