Maybe he just wanted more pretzels. "Crew subdues man banging on cockpit during flight," from The Associated Press, May 9 (thanks to Bill):
SAN FRANCISCO—Crew members and passengers wrestled a 28-year-old man to the cabin floor after he began pounding on the cockpit as an American Airlines flight approached San Francisco, the third security incident in a day on U.S. planes, authorities said Monday. The man was yelling unintelligibly as he brushed past a flight attendant about 10 minutes before American Airlines Flight 1561 was due at San Francisco International Airport Sunday night, Sgt. Michael Rodriguez of the San Francisco police said.
A male flight attendant tackled the suspect, who carried a Yemen passport, and other crew members aided as the suspect banged on the cockpit door.
"He asked for help; a couple of passengers joined in," Rodriguez told The Associated Press. "They were able to get him to ground and a flight attendant put him in plastic handcuffs."
The Boeing 737 carrying 162 people landed safely at 9:10 p.m. and the man was taken into police custody.
He was identified as 28-year-old Rageit Almurisi. Though he carried a Yemen passport, it wasn't clear if his nationality was also Yemeni, Rodgriguez said.
Almurisi was charged with interfering with a flight crew, a federal offense. No motive has been established and the officer said he had no information when asked if the disturbance was linked to terrorism.
During the scuffle, Almurisi sustained some bruises and was checked at a hospital before being transported to San Mateo County Jail, the officer said....
The man was yelling unintelligibly...
Is "gibberish" the most recent term to be employed by the mainstream media to refer to "allahu akbar", or sieg heil in Arabic?
"Though he carried a Yemen passport, it wasn't clear if his nationality was also Yemeni"
More weaselly hair-splitting in the service of jihad denial. To be fair to Sgt. Rodriguez, he may just have been responding to a weaselly question from the AP reporter.
This SOB jihadist wanted a no frills way to down an airliner. Once in he could have done a number of things to down the plane, smash the controls or fight with the pilots. He did this at the critical time of a final approcach to the airport, thats when the pilots must pay all attention to the landing, when even a minor error could cause a crash.
And the Barbarians keep showing their true colors.
"Though he carried a Yemen passport, it wasn't clear if his nationality was also Yemeni, Rodgriguez said."
Oh please! What a pile of PC bullcr*p.
You know the PC reporter Richard Engel? I heard him refer to the "ideology of al Qaida" the other day! Is that a hoot, or what? No, Richard, it's the ideology of Islam! Capische?
For the next time, and the time after that...

No motive noted...but yelling unintelligibly...from Yemen...
HMM don't blame Islam for that...There are a lot of men from Yemen, who yell unintelligibly, and don't seem to have any motivation for banging on the cockpit door...Happens all the time...
Every time I hear a story like this I'm reminded of the heroic actions of the people on Flight 93. The influence of their actions have prevented several terrorist attacks since that awful day.
Most likely this guy was a CAIR shill or acting alone thinking he could actually do something.
If this was a real operation they would have done like 9/11, 4 or 5 guys per plane to prevent people from stopping them.
CAIR has been pushing people to do stuff to make "profiling" and preventing terrorism on airplanes look bad. Just look at the incident with the two Imams. Dressed in traditional clothing, probably talking about bombs or some other subject or at the very least acting downright suspicious to get the wrong kind of attention. When they get kicked off the plane, they sue the airlines making them afraid to kick people off again so next time a terrorist attack will be assured.
Any airline that stands up to the criminal organization named CAIR has my support.
"HMM don't blame Islam for that...There are a lot of men from Yemen, who yell unintelligibly, and don't seem to have any motivation for banging on the cockpit door...Happens all the time..."
swami, I appreciate your dry wit and clever sarcasm all the time. Just letting you know.
I saw reference to this on my local news website (though they didn't mention anything about country of origin); they helpfully noted that "he may be suffering from mental-health issues".
Y'know, off the top of my head I can think of a group (roughly 1,500,000,000 individuals, I understand) suffering from the EXACT SAME mental-health issues.
I live in Sacramento and I've been listening to the radio all morning.A guy who was on that flight called in and said the guy was screaming "Allahu Akbar" as he tried to get into the cockpit but then a flight attendendant grabbed him and called the passengers to help.
Almurisi was charged with interfering with a flight crew, a federal offense.
This is gonna put Eric Holder in a tough spot. He's already put in an unflattering light what with the howling about letting CAIR off the hook, and now he's gotta take care of this apparently mentally ill activist.
If he's a Yemeni, why not pack him off to Gitmo?
"A guy who was on that flight called in and said the guy was screaming "Allahu Akbar" as he tried to get into the cockpit."
and when he wasn't successful in gaining access to the cockpit he procceded to plan B, which is spout gibberish to claim mental illiness in court. allah and his zombie followers are the best of planners.
The fact that what the "28 year-old man" from Yemen was "yelling unintelligibly" was actually "Allahu Akhbar" completely seals the case. No one except a Muslim utters that phrase, and the fact it was uttered while attempting to hijack a passenger jet makes the guy a Muslim terrorist, pure and simple. I'd say send him to Gitmo, although Eric Holder will almost certainly want to try him in a Federal court, probably in San Francisco.
The MSM and its minions have been howling about the pilot who yesterday refused to let two "imams" in full Islamic garb board his flight. I don't suppose it will occur to them to see a connection between the present story and pilot's action.

"Let's Roll!" redux. Good stuff! The passengers who came to the flight attendant's aid were a retired Secret Service agent and a retired San Mateo [San Francisco Bay Area city] police officer.

When he was "yelling unintelligibly", did it sound kinda like "Allahu Akbar"? Just a guess...
Rageh Almurisi may have a Yemeni passport, but he had been living in the town of Vallejo in the north San Francisco Bay Area, and holds a California ID card. I haven't been able to find information yet on his legal status. Still, it's unlikely he'd be living in decidedly untouristy Vallejo if he were just visiting. This is a working class residential town.

I am shocked at the total lack of cultural understanding among JW readers-all of you should be ashamed !
It is readily apparent that this Yemeni chap
was shouting "Allahu Snackbar" prior to landing
because the in-flight technicians had just finished clearing away the food and tray tables, and the man
was obviously very distraught due to hunger.
None of you have been to Yemen, apparently, where
camels are the mode of land and air (but not sea) transport. It is abundantly clear that this man is not accustomed to non-animal based air flight, so please be more understanding and culturally aware in future !!

"The man was yelling unintelligibly ..."
Possible a CAIR shill, or a MAS shill, or a MB shill, and quite possibly a pious Muslim on a routine flight to California...
dry run....
obviously he was upset he was not ejected from the plane like his 2 imam buddies last week denied his allah given entitlement to victimhood, that and of course he was not given his snakbar prior to landing.
He was probably getting impatient and yelled "are we there yet?!" while banging on the cockpit door, so who better to ask than the pilots themselves ...yeah our kids used to pose that question to Hubby and I all the time on road trips.
There are some really good comments here, so there's not much left to be said. I hope people come away wondering & questioning their officials as to why the fact that this islamonazi was yelling "Allahu Akbar" has been removed from most of the reporting.

It's not the first time this has happened, WPF. In the earliest accounts of the apprehension of San Francisco 'sudden Jihadist' Omeed Aziz Popal, bystanders reported him screaming "Allahu Akbar!" as the police pulled him from his SUV. Later accounts quietly omitted this detail.
I am an airline pilot.
Had I been on this airplane and observed this behavior, I would have been amongst the first to move forward and take action to subdue this jihadi.
I would have killed this fucker!
Any more questions?
its exactly what i expect, i see it all day now, every possible angle. reading the beeb on egypt today, i wouldn’t be surprised if people thought the Christians started it, and the 14 dead was muslims. i meant it, every day, every story on the beeb, if there’s a muslim doing some wrong, they mitigate like hell.
maybe a bit churlish of me to always make fun of this, but apart from writing letters to the beeb, which i do. there aint much more. I like JW, as there are so many here who get the joke, we must all be seeing it the same way, the MSN are now telling us white is black and black is white with every one of their stinking breaths.
rant over. back to humor

"the third security incident in a day on U.S. planes....."
Why this sound so much alike 9/11? if all three attempts were to succeed imagine what will happen, is there possibility all of these are on the wake of Osama's death?
I *love* those cartoons. Some of them are brilliant.
This incident reminds me of the attempted hijack of an airliner in Christchurch which wasn't given wide media coverage at the time or since. It concerns a Somalian woman who threatened the co-pilot with a table fork. He promptly kicked her in the shins and she dropped the fork in much pain. The woman was latter arrested but claimed mental illness (of course).
I later asked a friend, who lived in Christchurch, why there was a Somalian in the country in the first place. He called me xenophobic for even mentioning it. I feel we have much more work to do in that beautiful place.
Would anyone like to wager that CAIR, or the ISNA, or the MAC, coughs up an attorney to represent Rageit Almurisi in court (but on the sly, through a laundered slush fund)? After all, he was "discriminated" against because he's a Muslim who bangs on cockpit doors, yelling gibberish. No harm in that. He's just another Muslim "victim." Maybe his Arabic name, translated, means "Harvey Wallbanger."
