67% of Pakistanis want Islamization of society

And yet we will keep pouring billions into Pakistan, because official Washington doesn't see the extinguishing of the last vestiges of secular law in Pakistan as anything to be concerned about. The idea that the full Islamization of Pakistani society could mean disaster for the United States (of course, the existing sham alliance is disastrous enough) doesn't enter anyone's mind.

Tiny Minority of Extremists Update: "67pc want Islamisation of society," by Ashraf Mumtaz for The Nation (Pakistan), June 1 (thanks to Mehreen):

LAHORE – As many as 67 per cent people of Pakistan want the government take steps for Islamisation, a clear indication that for whatever reasons they have lost faith in the existing system.

According to a survey carried out by Gilani Research Foundation, 31 per cent people want the government take the required steps at once. However, 48 per cent think that the needed steps should be taken one by one. People approached for survey had been asked: “In your opinion should the government take steps to Islamise the society?” These findings clearly mean that the claims made by various elements that Pakistan should be a secular state are totally baseless and contrary to the wishes of the people.

This is a unique kind of survey carried out by an organization (Gallup Pakistan) in a society where more than 90 per cent people are Muslims, no matter which sect they belong to. That 31 per cent people want ‘immediate’ steps for Islamisation means that they are totally disappointed with the ability of the existing system to solve their problems and want to switch over to the Islamic system, for the sake of which the country had been created in 1947.

According to the survey, 48 per cent people are for a gradual approach. In other words, they want the government to take the required steps one by one.

Without any iota of doubt, these people also pin their hopes on the Islamic system, but want it introduced gradually, which, ostensibly, means that no hasty step should be taken which had the potential to backfire.

Thirteen per cent of those approached for their opinions said there was no need for Islamization. Such people could be secularists, liberals or of the minority communities.
Twenty per cent people, according to the survey, gave no response....

No surprise Bin Laden openly "hid" among his fellow Islamists - the 67% of Pakistani who share his intolerant Jihadist agenda.

Not surprised at these poll results. All Muslims are Islamists. Period!! So why should anyone be surprised that a majority of Pakistanis( or Napakistanis) want sharia be the supreme law of the land. isn't that the condition for being a Muslim - follow sharia laws or the laws given by Mo/allah!!

The PC liberal Westerners will be surprised by these results but won't believe them since they think its only a tiny minority of Muslims who want such laws. Wonder who are the morons - The Western PC liberal or Muslims themselves - both!!

both! the liberals and the muslims! the more dangerous ones are the PC liberals though!!!

For a simple, accessible account of the earlier stages of this Descent Into Hell that is the downward spiral of Islamisation in Pakistan, all one has to do is to read the chapters on Pakistan in V S Naipaul's "Among the Believers" and "Beyond Belief".

For a detailed account of what that relentless process has done to some of the non-Muslim residents of Pakistan, one can then consult Dr Patrick Sookhdeo's book (based on his PhD thesis) "A People Betrayed: the impact of Islamisation on the Christian community in Pakistan." (I suspect that if someone were to write, or has written, a book about the experience of the remnant Hindu and Sikh communities in Pakistan, from 1948 to the present day, it would chart a very similar trajectory to that which is traced, for the Christians, by Dr Sookhdeo).

Opinion polling Moslems must be like herding cats. Skittish and highly unreliable.

Hindu and Sikh communities in Pakistan, from 1948 to the present day, it would chart a very similar trajectory...

1948 was a very big year.

*** 33:21 ***

The creation of Israel and rise of Mao come to mind, in addition to Pak.

That year wove a tale of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

And it was all pulled off w/o the charm of having a Clint Eastwood to watch.

Miriam, I just love your enthusiasm against islam. Keep it up! I love reading your posts, as I use the same type of "language" that you do, and I too am a Proud Patriot, as you seem to be.

ONLY 67% ???!!!! (gasp)

67% of Pakistanis want Islamization of society
................................

Really, that should read *further* Islamization of society. Pakistan is already a state based on Islam, with horrendous oppression of religious minorities and women—including blasphemy laws, the condoning of forced conversions and "honor killings".

So—what they mean is that they want *even more Shari'ah*.

Their model is less vibrant emerging India and more the terrible darkness of Afghanistan under the Taliban.

Totaly agree with Miriam. Cut them off from the money farce and let them self implode. They are corrupted inside and out. The government doesn't exist, the military is a joke and the ISI is an islamist catalyst. If we see them assembling their nukes we take them out.

Gravenimage,

Exactly.

More than 67% of Pakistani Muslims already want stoning to death of adulterers (82%) and the death penalty for apostasy (76%). Moreover, Pakistan already has the death penalty or life imprisonment for blasphemy, and this aspect of sharia has strong and widespread support.

Here's a report published in 2010 by PEW:

http://pewglobal.org/files/2010/12/Pew-Global-Attitudes-Muslim-Report-FINAL-December-2-2010.pdf

“About eight-in-ten Muslims in Egypt and Pakistan (82% each) endorse the stoning of people who commit adultery; 70% of Muslims in Jordan and 56% of Nigerian Muslims share this view. Muslims in Pakistan and Egypt are also the most supportive of whippings and cutting off of hands for crimes like theft and robbery; 82% in Pakistan and 77% in Egypt favor making this type of punishment the law in their countries, as do 65% of Muslims in Nigeria and 58% in Jordan.
When asked about the death penalty for those who leave the Muslim religion, at least three-quarters of Muslims in Jordan (86%), Egypt (84%) and Pakistan (76%) say they would favor making it the law; in Nigeria, 51% of Muslims favor and 46% oppose it. In contrast, Muslims in Lebanon, Turkey and Indonesia largely reject the notion that harsh punishments should be the law in their countries. About three-quarters of Turkish and Lebanese Muslims oppose the stoning of people who commit adultery (77% and 76%, respectively), as does a narrower majority (55%) of Muslims in Indonesia.”

p.s. re the "67%" figure cited in the article, I'm going to have a closer look at that. It's reported as "Pakistanis", though about 3% of Pakistanis are non-Muslims. Not sure how Ahmadis were classified.

There's an apparent discrepancy between (1) the 67% who want Islamization, and (2) the 48% who want it gradually plus the 31% who want is immediately (total = 79%). Although the article above doesn't explain the discrepancy, a look at a bit more detail from the Gilani/ Gallup Pakistan site shows that these figures (for 1 and 2, above) actually come from responses to two different questions. (see link below, though this still doesn't account for the discrepant results, which could be due to a variety of reasons).

What I will refer to here as question 1 asked, "In your opinion should the government take steps to 'Islamize' the society?"

Responses:
67% Yes
13% No
20% NR (no response)

What I'll call question 2 asked, "Should the government take steps for ‘Islamization’ at once or one by one?"

48% One by one
31% All at once
21% NR (no response)

Pakistan came into existence from the last minute treachery of Gandhi by the Muslim population of the then un-divided India prior to getting independence from the British ! The Muslims made naiive Gandhi to spend all his force to make the Indian population to rise against the British rulers of India. The leader of the Muslims was Mohammed Ali Jinnah who had lost his hopes of getting independnce for India and gone back to England to reopen his legal practice there. However, the shrewed Muslim realised that contrary to his belief Gandhi was succeeding in his paceful approach and was likely to get freedom for India. Realising this Jinnah returned to India once again but this time to become the leader of Muslims and demand a separate Muslim nation which he got as today's Pakistan ! The treachery of the Muslims did not stop with getting a new nation of their own but the they sent "Maujahideens" in those days into Kashmir which was an independent Kingdom under a Hindu king who was hesitant in joining the Indian state.
So, the Islamisation of Pakistan was the begining of its very birth as an independent nation. In view of this Islamic history of Pakistan it is not unusual to see the Gallop Pakistan Poll declaring 67% of its population wanting Islamic rule ! In fact what it means is that from 100% in 1947 it has come down to 67% in 2011 !The other fact which the American/European people do not know so well is that since the formation of Pakistan the NWFP (i.e. North West Frontier Province ) area adjoining Afganistan has been the stronghold of Islam and Shariat and remains so even today. The largely "converted-from-Hindus" population of Muslims which migrated from India to Pakistan , of which Pakistan's Father-of-the-nation Jinnah was one , was more refined than those NWFP Muslims. For the last 65 years of its existence Pakistani rulers always kept the gun-trotting "cowboys" of NWFP region untouched from modernity so much so that till date those "frontier people" , as they are commonly known in Pakistan , always had their own tribal "jirga" system of governance which was more or less based on the "Shariat" of Koran ! Till date Pakistani government located in Islamabad allows two or three nominated MNA's ( i.e. Members of National Assembly ) from the NWFP area to represent only for the purpose of undisputed allocation of federal budget money to them every year and that's all ! This "frontier" area of Pakistan that has been the headache to U.S. & NATO forces for the last 10 years after the 9/11 !
Such is the state of affairs in Islamic country of Pakistan which is today an international rougue state just like Somalia ! Inshallah !

So, Muslims are stopped on the street and asked if the government should submit to Islam? As if they would say no and risk being killed as an apostate, as required by Islam.
