The IDF has identified thousands of Hezbollah sites throughout Lebanon, making its “target bank” many times larger than it was in 2006 on the eve of the Second Lebanon War, a senior IDF officer told The Jerusalem Post ahead of the fifth anniversary of the start of the conflict.
According to the officer, the IDF had approximately 200 pre-designated targets on July 12, 2006, when Hezbollah set off the war by abducting reservists Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser. Those targets included close to 100 homes and other storage sites where the Islamist group had deployed long-range missiles it received from Iran. The targets were destroyed on the first night of the war.
Today the bank has thousands more sites throughout Lebanon that would constitute legitimate targets in the event of a future war with Hezbollah, the officer told the Post. Earlier this year, the IDF released a map showing 950 locations scattered across the country – a majority of them bunkers and surveillance sites.
According to the officer, Hezbollah is also believed to have passed the 50,000 mark in the number of rockets and missiles it has obtained. Most of these weapons are stored in some 100 villages around southern Lebanon. [...]
UNIFIL’s mandate will be up for extension in August, and the IDF is hoping that by raising awareness of Hezbollah’s growing presence in these villages it might succeed in getting the UN to enforce a tougher mandate.
Currently, peacekeeping troops who want to enter villages need to coordinate their moves with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), which in many cases warns Hezbollah.
“UNIFIL is doing an effective job in open areas, and for that reason we don’t really see Hezbollah positions there,” the officer said. “Instead, Hezbollah is based inside villages, since UNIFIL cannot go there freely.”...
The IDF lost 45 of its finest battle tanks in the last intervention. The old tactics won't work. Its time for scorched earth. There is a site in Ashkelon where one-quarter of Israel's power is generated. If that is destroyed, the enemy will be nuked to oblivion.
IED's have effectively cut the enemy's throat, since the IDF can no longer roll-over the enemy. Escalation will get scary in the next conflict. Its too bad the US is governed by a dhimmi.

And why would Hizb'allah do this? Two reasons, of course. Firstly, to deter Israel from striking back at all—since they know the civilized Israelis would be loath to risk hitting hospitals, schools and private homes—even if they were also rocket positions.
And secondly, if Israel does strike back—either because they were unaware that the rockets were being launched from these locations, or out of sheer desperate self-defense—then Muslims, their apologists, and the usual useful idiots can bewail Israel's firing on hospitals, schools, and private homes.

Rather than focus on the fact that the village was a rocket storage site, most would simply see the "wicked Zionists" as having destroyed a Lebanese village, and not ask why it "went super-nova" at all.
Look its about time that Israel and the U.S. quite trying to fight wars and battles using boy scout rules. When you hold back in war you cause the following : a) more of your soldiers get killed, b) you end up prolonging the war and the suffering, c)you increase the amount money you have to spend on the war, d) you encourage your enemy doing things like putting missiles next to schools and hospitals, e)you lose your technological advantage.As General Sherman said " war is all hell and there is no use to making it nice". During a war civilians are going to get killed, schools and hospitals will be blown up that's the way war is. If your afraid of that then you should never send soldiers into a war. Wars should be fully and publicly declared by the government with the goal of destroying your enemy with whatever means necessary.

Brilliant tactic by the Israelis to inform the enemy that they know where the rockets are stored, and that those locations will be legitimate targets in the event of a future conflict.
Might as well follow up this stroke of genius by offering to send their top generals to Iran for debriefing!
