(CNN) -- Radical anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr thanked followers who offered to launch attacks against the U.S. military in Iraq should he reinstate his notorious Mehdi Army militia, according to a posting on his website.
The exchange between a follower and al-Sadr on his website comes as Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is talking with members of his government about the possibility of requesting American troops to stay in Iraq beyond a year-end deadline to withdraw.
Al-Sadr vowed earlier this year to "escalate armed resistance" if the U.S. military does not pull its troops as scheduled, a move that could destabilize the country should the Mehdi Army repeat the bloody battles it waged against American and Iraqi forces during the height of violence.
"We intended to be martyred, if you intend to lift the freeze of Imam al-Mehdi Army to defend Islam, doctrine and Iraq. Our martyrdom will be restricted only on activities against the infidel occupier without harming the civilians or any public proprieties," an unidentified follower posted on the website on Friday.
Al-Sadr responded: "Thank you dears... May God preserve you and watch over you."
A U.S. military spokesman on Sunday told CNN that, "Muqtada al-Sadr's statement speaks sufficiently for itself about his attitude toward the use of violence as an alternative to democratic processes."
"It's the same attitude that has caused so much violence for the Iraqi people in the past," Col. Barry Johnson said. "We are not inclined to characterize it further at this point."...

Take a look at this guy. He should be sentenced to hard labour in a pig farm. You have to love his rhetoric extolling peace and harmony for the Iraqi people. Just look into his eyes and tell me if there is anything about this mongrel that you could possibly like. You can just feel the warmth and charm - yeah! Muqtada al-Sadr is the second-most influential person in Iraq, his party being the leading opposition party. al-Sadr also spends much of his time in Iran.
We can thank George Bush for giving Iran a free hand in the region. The Bush administration not only deposed Saddam Hussein, but it systematically destroyed any Iraq institutions capable of maintaining security. The predictable result was the predominance of armed gangs and thugs, exactly the sort of army supporting Muqtada al-Sadr.

A few years ago when al-Sadrs al-Mehdi army was slaughtering Iraqis by the score daily he was cornered by US Marines in Najaf. As the Marines moved in for the kill the Iraqi government appealed to the US govenment for leniency. In one of the most stupid moves ever the Marines were called off and Al-Sadr was allowed to leave in safety. He promptly went to Iran.
Now he's back and promising more bloodshed. It makes one pause and ask questions about our "Iraqi allies".

US soldiers wrote letters published in the NY Times about their view of the Iraq war and this bit of filth in particular. Their advice was not followed and as a result Muqtada al-Sadr remained to cause the murders of countless Iraqi civilians and coalition personelle. And now he has publically voiced support for future violence.
Iraq will not ever be stable while this iranian agent's dangerous machinations continue.
