The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has objected to the adoption of Sharia by Borno State, which is only considering doing so in order to placate the Islamic jihad terror group, Boko Haram (“Education Is Sin”). The NBA points out that this will only reinforce the idea among jihadis that violence and terror work, and help them achieve their goals.
Some NBA members should come to Washington and explain this concept to a few key people.
“NBA raises objection to adoption of Sharia,” from Vanguard, June 11:
The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, yesterday, raised a strong objection to plans by the Borno State government to adopt Sharia legal system in the state, giving in to demands by Boko Haram group, which it called a terrorist group.
NBA which condemned the group (Boko Haram) for the killings and maiming of innocent citizens and attacks on places of worship in Borno State, called on the Federal and State Governments to overhaul their security apparatus to combat the attacks by the group, which it noted could hamper economic growth and scare away internal and external investment.
Mr Joseph Daudu, SAN, NBA President in a communiqué after the association’s National Executive, NEC, meeting in Abuja, said “we condemned all acts of terrorism within the country. We recognise that terrorist groups and acts are thriving in various parts of Nigeria as a result of security lapses….
Further he said, “we condemn the actions and proposals of the Governor of Borno State by acceding to one of the demands of the faceless terrorists which is, to implement the Sharia Legal System in Borno State. It is a standard worldwide practice not to give in to demands made by Kidnappers or terrorists as that will only encourage and validate the use of violence, force and or other illegal means to achieve illegitimate goals….
The West seems to be forgetting that.
