NEW BERN, N.C., June 8 (UPI) -- A second North Carolina man accused of aiding terrorism pleaded guilty to helping provide support to terrorists, courthouse officials said.
In a federal court in New Bern, N.C., Zakariya Boyd pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, and could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison, The (Raleigh) News & Observer reported Wednesday.
Boyd, 22, is the second son of Daniel Patrick Boyd, who was accused in July 2009 of leading a terrorist cell with an international reach. The elder Boyd pleaded guilty to terrorism-related charges in February and is awaiting sentencing.
Six other defendants, including Zakariya Boyd's brother, Dylan, face trial for similar charges in September.

Zakariya Boyd was accused as being part of an effort to wage jihad (holy war) abroad. He and the other defendants allegedly raised money for arms and to support militant training efforts abroad, The News & Observer said.
After the plea agreement Tuesday, the lead prosecutor said Zakariya Boyd was afforded rights he was trying to destroy.
"Today, Mr. Boyd stepped into an American courtroom and was afforded the rights and privileges of a system of which he would have destroyed," said George E.B. Holding, U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of North Carolina. "His decision to plead guilty sets him on a different path -- a path consistent with the rights and safety of the citizens of the United States, both at home and abroad."
