The West dodges a bullet: Geert Wilders acquitted of all “hate” charges

In a great victory for decency and sanity, the Court of Amsterdam has acquitted Geert Wilders of all charges.

Wilders remarked:

“I am delighted with this ruling. It is a victory, not only for me but for all the Dutch people. Today is a victory for freedom of speech. The Dutch are still allowed to speak critically about islam, and resistance against islamisation is not a crime. I have spoken, I speak and I shall continue to speak.”

Pamela Geller lists these as the charges against Wilders:

  1. Intentionally offending Muslims
  2. Inciting hatred against Muslims
  3. Inciting discrimination against Muslims
  4. Inciting hatred of non-western immigrants

On each, he was acquitted. It is a great victory for common sense, and a decisive defeat for the Islamic supremacist forces that have been trying to destroy the freedom of speech and compel dhimmi Western governments to label the truth about Islam and jihad as “hate speech.” But we are not out of the woods yet. The forces that were responsible for the persecution and prosecution of Wilders will not give up, and will pursue similar charges against others. We may only hope that this verdict will set a strong precedent that will make it even less likely that they will succeed in the future. Nonetheless, we will not be completely clear of this kind of Stalinist show trial until “hate speech” laws are definitively rejected as the tools of tyranny that they manifestly are.

This is fantastic news! Congratulations, Geert. Let’s hope the result of this great victory gains momentum and spreads rapidly to other freedom-loving countries.

    hmmm… the plot thickens.

  3. says

Wilders presented only the truth and provided factual evidence such as videos of Muslims giving hate speeches…

The Muslim accusations were proof that the Muslims don’t want the truth about Islam to get out.

It’s hard to deny the truth when video and audio tapes exist and get out for all to see and hear.

Preserving freedom and justice is a difficult task but it is one that must be undertaken by all….especially if they want to keep it.

The next time you see an article written by Muslims or Misinformed Infidels which you know to contain deceptions please submit a reply to the newspaper or blog that has printed it.

    Keep the heat turned up.

I wish I could see Ekmeleddin Insaneglouglou’s face now… Screaming like an arab kept waiting for 5 seconds at a traffic light after it turns green, and going like “o allah… O-O-O-O ALLAH, WHY DID YOU LET THIS HAPPEN???”

  5. says

GREAT NEWS!! after years after years of dealing with this travesty of justice. When it comes to freedom of speech common sense finally prevails after all in the Netherlands. Sadly even still Geert Wilders still remains a man who needs 24 hour security in his own country for his criticism of Islam.

Thank God for such good news this morning!!

  6. says

Congrats to all freedom lovers, thanks a lot Geert for persevering. This is only a milestone, albeit a very important one. The fight must go on!

  7. says

Geert is free at last. But this never should have happened.
    in the first place.

The tyranny of being intimidated into silence is a huge problem in the world today. You can’t tell the TRUTH about anyone, or anything, lest you be accused of being anti- islam, anti-semitic, racist, homophobic, etc.,etc.

The “tyranny of silence” will only lead to much greater tyrannies……….

  8. says

“Hate speech” laws are still political laws used to intimidate and harass people who disagree with the PeeCee-EmCee establishment and their purpose is not so much protecting minorities as silencing unpopular opinions. They are subversive of any freedom of speech and the press.

Here, in the USA, we need to organize “lawfare” against any and all organizations that push for these things; and, where they are in effect, client groups of the Left need to be targeted for “hate speech” violations whenever white people, Christians, Jews, minority conservatives, or others are demonized by the Jeremiah Wrongs and “Jews-are-Apes-and-Pigs” imams. Student organizations that push for such things also need to be targeted.

Further, politicians who press for such violations of our First Amendment rights need to be targeted and exposed–and also subjected to impeachment proceedings and removed. We’ve seen too much erosion of liberty by intrusive, political “nannies”; and now that their actions are leaving us open to physical attack by hostile forces, these people need to be swept away.

  9. says

As was the case with Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn in Canada, and now with Wilders in Europe, the process was the punishment.

He, they, should never have been put to the task in the first place.

As a fortuitous bit of condolence however, this trial gave Wilders great exposure. More people than ever know of the evils of Islam, and Wilders’ political party is more popular than ever.

  10. says

This is welcomed news from that part of Europe. This brings more hope that Europe is waking up from its Islamic induced slumber. That the Euros are realizing that their country and culture is being threatened by the intolerant, violent, and hate filled ideology of islam. Hopefully we all in the anti jihad movement are doing our part to bring forth such realizations.
Anyway congrats to Geert for his victory.

  11. says

as i stated when it happened, thank goodness it is
    EXCELLENT news.
the UN, Euro courts, well the only concern on that
score, are the likes of the OIC etc.
but…..more publicity for fitna – his new mohamhead

    carried on for so long).

Leftists in the U.S. often advise U.S. courts to take note of foreign jurisprudence when reaching their decisions. Here’s one case where I might agree with them.

  14. says

Theodore Dalrymple: “Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.”

  15. says

I would argue that with this trial, and the trials of Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn, it’s a case that the PM-MC forces in power have just gotten a little bit ahead of themselves. Of course they want a left-wing, totalitarian state where they can imprison their political foes for thoughtcrimes, but unfortunately for them they didn’t sufficiently chip away at the legal structures that our forefathers in the West built; they brought these men to trial before they had sufficiently rigged the system. I don’t think this point is going to be lost on them, and you can expect efforts from them to alter the legal system so that they won’t be thwarted in the future. I think we’ve been saved a few times by the political, legal and social capital our forefathers built up for us, but that won’t last forever.

  16. says

“Geert Wilders acquitted of all “hate” charges” – best news since Osma was rolled into the salty water.. Congratulations Mr. Wilders! Thank you for holding the torch for the freedom from evil Islamic ideology.

” they brought these men to trial before they had sufficiently rigged the system. I don’t think this point is going to be lost on them, and you can expect efforts from them to alter the legal system so that they won’t be thwarted in the future.”

    Boston,

I agree with you completely. The arrogance and blunders of the Islamists have saved us in the past, but we should recall that the best minds of the Muslim world are focused on spreading Islam. The best Western minds are engaged in science, commerce, or the creative arts. Therefore, we can expect the Muslims to pick up on the lessons, and to use subtlety and creativity to subvert Western defenses in the future.

We should not underestimate our opponents. We have the absolute power to defeat them, but a war lost to subversion rather than to military defeat is still a war lost.

I’m afraid the bellwether of our strategy is Muslim immigration. As long as Muslims continue to immigrate to Western countries, we are losing the war, flat-out.

  18. says

Of course, it will be *our fault* that Wilders was found ‘not guilty’. That’s because the Western system of man-made law is inferior to Sharia. If Sharia had been in place, he would have been found guilty, obviously, and justice would have been done. This case *proves* Sharia is superior, and therefore, muslims are justified in continuing their Jihad against non-muslims…

    That’s how they’ll frame it.

  19. says

Has anyone read the BBC’s take on this? If not you ought to, if only to catch them red-handed in spewing their biased misinformation.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13883331

    From the article:

“Mr Wilders has compared the Koran to Hitler’s Mein Kampf.”

(but the BBC declines to say *why* Mr Wilders compares the qur’an to Mein Kampf)

“Supporters of Geert Wilders erupted into applause in the public gallery of the court as presiding judge Marcel van Oosten acquitted the **populist** politician of all charges of hate speech and discrimination against Muslims.”

(Populist, as if Mr Wilders resorted to Hitler style demagoguery in order to get elected)

“With the acquittal, it appears the radical views of Mr Wilders are now more mainstream in a country that for decades was viewed as one of **the most liberal and tolerant in the world**.”

(Implying that if the Dutch political establishment let sharia flourish unhindered and without criticism it would somehow be *more* liberal and tolerant! This clearly flies in the face of common sense!)

I sent them a comment about this article but I highly doubt they would publish it. When it comes to politics or cultural articles I would avoid the BBC as being worse than the Grauniad for objective reporting.

An important battle won in a war which still has a long way to go. It’s freedom versus totalitarianism and the totalitarians come not from one but two groups—Muslims and modern leftists. In this battle, Wilders, a great and brave proponent of freedom, proved victorious. Laurels to him for this. Of course, Wilders will be described in even more villainous terms henceforth by his enemies but his enemies are lesser people, little people, and Wilders is a giant. My admiration for him is immense. He is indeed no mere spectator but a courageous man in the arena.

Can you comment on a ruling and decision by the Canadian Human Rights against a television program that basically supported a Christian guys view on islam. It is really bizarre. I found it on Kathy Shaidles blog, and she will be on Sun TV tonight with Ezra Levant to discuss this. It needs a scholars input interms of what was said.

Fantastic news! Congratulations to Geert Wilders if you are reading this. I have just made a contribution of 25 Euros to your party as well. I was particularly impressed by your stirring speech to the church in Tennessee.

I hope that you and your party will be able to turn back the tide of Islamization in Europe, that you will be able to preserve Western civilization in Europe, that the beautiful churches and works of art in Europe will be preserved and not torn down the like the Buddhas in Afghanistan, that people will be able to continue to exercise the freedom of speech that J.S. Mill, Voltaire, etc. fought for, that people will be able to continue to exercise their freedom of conscience! I am tremendously heartened by this wonderful result. The propaganda victory for Islam would have been huge if this case had been lost, not to mention the chilling effect on free speech (a 1984 kind of state would have been created in reality and not just fictionally). However, the situation in Afghanistan is not good. The Taliban will take over there again and the propaganda victory for Islam there will be resounding. The Taliban will announce with glee that they beat the Russian Godless Communists and now they have beaten the American Christian Satan. Oh, well. We will just have to go in and bomb the hell out of them once in and a while. The main thing is stop the spread of Islam in our own countries. If we don’t, then they will eventually have a big enough political influence that, instead of fighting the Taliban, we will be helping them take over other infidel nations. You have to think about this in the very long term!

Big score Victory for Free Speech. Bravo! Bravi!!

Shine a strong light on the truth of Islamic supremacist tyranny, and let the world judge. Geert brought this to light, as have Spencer, Geller, Bostom, Fitzgeral, Fjordman, Gates of Vienna, Islam-Watch, Faithfreedom, and many others. Keep shining the light on oppressive ideologies that seek to destroy our natural freedoms and cast us back into primitive Dark Ages.

“NO” to Sharia and Islamic Jihad. “NO”!!

” While even the public defender’s office has previously requested he be cleared of all charges, the plaintiffs in the case are now considering bringing the issue to the UN and European courts.

For anyone who believes in the sanctity of free expression, such an action suggests a true threat to democracy that must not be allowed. For the moment, however, the findings in the Wilders case are reassurance that the ideals of the Enlightenment and of all democratic people stand strong. ”

While I certainly cann see why many say this trial should never have happened, I see it as a silver lining. A huge spotlight was shone on how politically correctness and fear of islam was becoming a huge threat to freedom of speech not only in Europe but everywhere such freedom is cherished.

I am sure many, many eyes were opened as a result of this trial. That is a good thing.

The apostles in early Christian times were repeated hauled in front of religious and political tribunuals and told to stop their evangelizing work. (see Acts chapter 4 when Peter and John were arrested and said they will not stop speaking'; Acts 5 Paul’s speech to Sanhedrin Pharisee Gamaliel) Acts 6 Stephen’s arrest and martyrdom there are many, many more examples.

Freeness of speech was greatly valued by these early champions – Paul said in 2 Corinthians 3:12 “Therefore as we have such a hope (of everlasting life) we are using great freeness of speech”

Criminalizing speech, words, thoughts is a very , very dangerous thing to do. True democracy is impossible without the free exchange of information. Mentioning the casual evils of islam as of those of Nazism unfortunately is more than an exercise of one’s free speech, now it is a clarion call necessary for the defence of western culture as we know it and even for survival itself ie; islamic nuclear proliferation.

Thank you Mr. Wilders, keep that finger on the dangerously leaking dam, Dutch boy

  34. says

A magnificent glorious, victory of justice for free speech. So well deserved for one of the major heroes, Geert Wilders!

Since the crime of knowingly and intentionally causing and generating massive organized hate and hate speech, and further causing people overwhelmingly, demonstrably, and continuously to act physically and violently (both genocidal and individually), and to suppress freedoms, and attempt to do so, as a result, and more specifically generating rage and hatred in massive large groups of individuals, is in the beholders and leaders (member-believers) of the cult of ultimate hate and rage, isn’t it 1380 years past time to finally condemn the true source, permanently, globally, at the least?

  35. says

    Hip Hip Hooray!

Freedom dodged a serious bullet here. May Geert Wilder live long and well. And may he never give up his ideals of freedom from Islam’s overbearing ideology.

  36. says

Let us not lose sight of the fact that Muslims can be bad losers and, if they don’t get their way by manipulating the law, they may circumvent it and resort immediately to street violence and acts of civil disorder. Be prepared for this.

And somewhere on the other side of time, C Snouck Hurgronje, Benedict Spinoza and Hugo Grotius are high-fiving, and drinking a toast to a brave Dutchman and to his equally brave and clever lawyer/s, and to those who assisted, most notably that fiery ex-Muslim, Wafa Sultan. And Oriana Fallaci and Jacques Ellul are lifting their glasses from somewhere across the way. And St Nicholas, patron saint of the Netherlands, is smiling benignly.

Here is what the three great Dutchmen I have just named – one immigrant/ refugee, two native-born – had to say about Islam, and Muslims, in their time.

I will begin with the Jewish philosopher Benedict / Baruch Spinoza.

“Mahomet was an imposter, since he completely abolishes the freedom which is granted by that universal religion revealed by the natural and prophetic light, and which I have shown ought to be fully granted.”
Benedictus de Spinoza (1632-1677) – from “Spinoza, The Letters,” Ep43, p. 241, translated by Samuel Shirley, Hackett Publishing, 1995.

    And now, Hugo Grotius:

“This religion (Mahometanism), altogether contrived for the shedding of blood, delights much in rites and ceremonies, and would be believed without all liberty of enquiry thereinto.”

    – Hugo Grotius (1583-1645). From “The Truth of Christian Religion by Hugo Grotius,” Book 6, section II, p. 169, translated by Simon Patrick, printed by J.L. for Luke Meredith, 1700.

The Grotius and Spinoza quotable quotes on Islam were tracked down and then shared, here on jihadwatch, by a diligent jihadwatcher, seven years ago. Blessings upon that person, who went off to a good library and dug out these Enlightenment masters, and sleuthed through their indices and then through their pages to find out what, if anything, they had had to say about Islam, Islam, Islam.

It should be noted, from their dates, that both Grotius and Spinoza, sadly, did not live long enough to witness one of the greatest and most decisive victories that the free world has ever achieved over Islam: at Vienna, September 11 1683. Grotius would have had to make it to age 100 to do that, but Spinoza need only have lived to age 52 rather than dying at 45.

Finally, C Snouck Hurgronje, from an essay that I think (unfortunately I did not save the reference at the time) was shared with us by Spencer’s longtime collaborator at this forum, ‘Hugh Fitzgerald':

“Christaan Snouck Hurgronje was born Feb. 8, 1857, Oosterhout, Netherlands, and died June 26, 1936, in Leiden

“A professor and Dutch colonial official, Snouck Hurgronje was also a pioneering and prolific Western scholar of Islam.

“He visited Arabia (1884–85), including a stop at Mecca, while serving as a lecturer at the University of Leiden (1880–89).

“Hurgronje’s 2 vol. classic work “Mekka” (1888–89), describes the history of the city, and expounds upon Islam’s origins, and the traditions and rituals of the earliest Islamic communities.

“Translated into English as “Mekka in the Latter Part of the 19th Century” (1931), the second volume includes many details of daily life in an Islamic culture, and also discusses the Indonesian Muslim colony at Mecca.

“From 1890 to 1906 Snouck Hurgronje was professor of Arabic at Batavia, Java. He also served as an advisor to the Dutch Colonial Government for Arabian Affairs, and in 1891 he was sent for a year to Sumatra to study the Acheh uprising”the subject of “De Atjèhers”, 2 vol. (1893–94; published in English translation in 1906 as “The Achehnese”), his ethnographic account of the people of northern Sumatra, a standard reference work.

Here are three statements made by the great Hurgronje, about Islam. First, from “The Achehnese,” 1906, Vol. 2, p. 348:

“…most Muslims are absolutely ignorant of the details of the doctrine of jihad.

“But so long as not one single Muslim teacher of consideration dreams of regarding these laws of the middle ages as abrogated,

“while a great proportion of the people exhibit the strongest inclination to restore the conditions which prevailed some centuries ago,

“so long does it remain impossible, however anxious we may be to do so,

“to omit the jihad from our calculations when forming a judgment on the relation of Islam to other religions.”

And then from “The Achehnese,” (i.e., the English translation version published in 1906, Vol. 2 p. 340):

“…European ideas and sympathies have gained as yet but little ground in Muslim countries. But the same cannot be said of European customs.

“He was a wise man who placed in the mouth of the Prophet the declaration that he who imitates another nation or another community in externals is fairly on the way to join their ranks for good and all.

“With good reason does the Mohammedan law ever impress upon the faithful the necessity of distinguishing themselves from the unbelievers in dress and in their manner of eating and drinking, standing and sitting.

“Many of these distinctive rules were till a short time since treated as a matter of ordinary discipline in Muslim countries.

“In their political and to a great extent in their social life, Mohammedans have been compelled to sail with the stream of the time or take the risk of being left halting behind; the course of that stream, however, is shaped by other hands than theirs.

“It need not, however, be imagined, that as a result of this change, the Mohammedan will be compelled to embrace another creed, or to sacrifice that innate allegiance to the name of Islam which he esteems his highest honor.

“There is no ground even for the supposition that he will gradually reform his religion.

“The necessity for such a reform is not felt, and even did such a tendency exist in some few cases its fulfillment would be thwarted by insurmountable obstacles.”

‘Earlier, in Vol. 1, p. 170, Hurgronje offers this blunt assessment of the consequences of such irredentism:

“For we must always recollect that reason, education and other similar influences gain no hold upon the self-esteem of Mohammedans until they find themselves opposed by irresistible force.

“Such is the tendency of their doctrine and their practice accords therewith.”

Dutch embassies all over the world should now be receiving a flood of politely-worded messages praising them for having a citizen as brave and devoted to truth as Mr Wilders, expressing satisfaction with this verdict, commending the upholding of the principle of freedom of speech in the Netherlands, and observing that all lovers of freedom expect that that principle will continue to be upheld by the Dutch in future.

Furthermore, Dutch businesses should find themselves suddenly having to handle a massive spike in purchases of Dutch beers and cheeses, to be consumed in celebratory gatherings of freedom-loving Infidels all around the world.

the charges that were made against Geert Wilders, and some of his statements that were singled out by his accusers.

    I have added running comments.

    ‘Charges against Geert Wilders

    ‘1. Intentionally offending Muslims.

COMMENT: ‘Intentionally’? But one can offend Muslims merely by breathing-while-Infidel. What is really difficult, indeed impossible, if one is not Muslim, and even if one *is* Muslim [like that unfortunate Pakistani bank that got blown up because the squiggly abstract design on their floor tiles supposedly looked a bit like the Arabic word for ‘allah’] is NOT offending Muslims.

To get an idea of how easily and quickly Muslims become offended by just about anything at all, whether the offense was intended or not, see this list:

And this essay by Hugh Fitzgerald –

Oh well, back to the charge list.

    ‘2. Inciting hatred against Muslims’

    – Translation: Warning people about the Jihad.

    ‘3. Inciting discrimination against Muslims’

    – Translation: calling for certain elementary acts of self-defence against the Jihad.;

‘4. Inciting hatred of non-western immigrants

    – Entirely false. Mr Wilders is worried about sharia-pushers and Islamisation. I doubt he is very worried about Austronesian Catholic refugees from the Jihad in the Moluccas, or Coptic refugees from Egyptian Muslim persecution.

‘A sample of Mr Wilders’ statements listed in the charge sheet:

“Prohibit this miserable book [the Qur’an] the way [Hitler’s] Mein Kampf was also prohibited!”

COMMENT: This is merely a call for consistency. If Mein Kampf is banned then the Koran, which is equally aggressive and hateful (and equally or perhaps even more virulently antisemitic), should also be banned. Either ban both, or neither.

“We must stop the tsunami of Islamisation”

COMMENT – Yes, we must, or perish wretchedly, as has happened to other societies infiltrated, subverted, attacked and overwhelmed by Muslims.

    “Islam is a violent religion”

COMMENT – Perfectly true. Any sane, free non-Muslim human who reads the Muslim source texts with their commonsense switched on, can see this; not to mention the exceedingly bloody record of history. It was Winston Churchill, with practical experience of Muslim behaviour and Muslim statements in Iraq, in Afghanistan and India, and in Africa (the Sudan campaign) who called Islam “the religion of blood and war”. Wilders is saying no more than Churchill said. And they are both telling the plain unvarnished truth.

‘ Qur’an deprived of all vindictive verses “would be the size of a Donald Duck comic- book”

    COMMENT – True ‘dat.

GEERT- – what’s the matter with you honey ? I mean ..do you HAVE to be so stubborn ? Geez- what do you think you have to gain by being so darned bullheaded ?? Is it that you are just bad-tempered..or maybe just because you are Dutch ?? HA ! ha ha, ha,ha ha ha ,ha , ha !! Never say I don’t have a sense of humor.

What a wonderful day it was- to hear he had been acquitted ! I get a crazy thrill just thinking about it, because I had been waiting , and afraid for him for more than a year. And he is one of my favorite human beings ! Could be it’s like love of my own self because he and I think so much alike.

Yes, that trial , which really WAS a disgrace, was about freedom of speech, but we musn’t forget that not only was it about preserving the high quality of right to express ourselves but he managed to fling open a previously tightly closed door to Islam, and expose it . THAT was no little thing ! It may have started an interest in the subject, and hopefully that interest will grow. Show people the truth- that is an absolute MUST !

If we wait for our government employees , the media, the brain-dead “thinkers” who have something to say about what the public hears, the people will NEVER hear the real facts. Those opinionated “thinkers” sit contentedly in their office chairs, depending on the general notions floating in the breeze to give them those screwed opinions, and never really do any research or inquiry of their own.

It takes a brave soul to go against the facsist leftist kind of thinking ; the kind that alot of the academic “elites” harbor, and that person HAS to be an unusual individual. Somebody like Geert has to take the wheel and drive in the right direction. Or Robert or Pamela , or people like the commenters here for that matter.

I think like Geert , and have taken a lot of belittling and attacks from people who subscribe to the idea that Muzzies are such victims ! I, like Geert, am considered as hateful as a Nazi. I guess that’s one reason I can feel for him so.

But, for anyone who says he is “free”, you are mistaken. He’s still not free, and there is no reason to not suspect some pissed Muslim who hates that verdict will want to to “get even” and he is killed even now.

Something else that really bothers me, is his own fellow Dutch citizens : I don’t think they appreciate or even like him. What do you think SAGUNTO ?? Will he now stand a better chance of getting more votes in the next election or will it matter ??

I also want to say that I am so proud of all of you who comment here–what gives you such miraculous insight, and will to fight ? I only wish there were more like you. But-maybe, just maybe-I don’t realize it but there really are many who are inspired by us. After all-there may be many readers who stop by Jihad Watch often.

    Geert–you are the man-

AND BOSCH : LOVE YOUR ART WORK ! YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TOO !!

The sad part is while this trial of trumped up charges was taking place the jihad morons were ‘business-as-usual’ continuing their attack on the west which has opened its doors to this trojan horse and its ‘moderate’ hidden jihadist imans and followers who spill out of it commiting all their ‘business-as-usual’ crimes and stir up new dissent with demonstrations against the west and claims for special privileges and pushing for their medieval shariah that they are brainwashed into believing since before they have the will to resist. Idiot social misfits and alienated fringes become their new recruits from the west to be used and later discarded when they usurp the west or so goes their plan. Wilders is a breath of fresh air in the midst of the wind of camel dung blowing in with the middle east jihadists that threatens to bring an eternal stench of decay to all that west stands for unless we throw out the traitors in our governments taking payoffs and/or who are just plain too stupid to see the light and the truth of the jihadist islamist game! Continuing to post to these blogs is important in that we see others who feel the same as we do but also emailing congressman and senators and government officials wherever you are is important as well as supporting organizations that defend our countries from the islamists.

There’s something even worse that’s probably on the horizon which shows how “hate speech laws” are Exhibit A in the case that the road to Hell is paved wiwth good intentions.

When I lived in Taiwan, I knew an elderly man from Heilongjiang in China’s far northeast. He had lived through Japanese occupation and the Chinese Civil War. Even though he, a Christian, struggled within himself against a deep-seated hatred for the Japanese, he used to say that the Communists were worse, because under the Japanese, “You could at lead remain silent.”

I see a totalitarian impulse behind a lot of these “hate speech” laws that seeks to not only silence an opposing conscience, but also to force people to lie to themselves and, for mere survival, to pretend to support things that they find repulsive.

The West dodges a bullet: Geert Wilders acquitted of all “hate” charges

In a great victory for decency and sanity, the Court of Amsterdam has acquitted Geert Wilders of all charges.

    Excellent, excellent news!

Very, very true. An acquittal is marvelous”still, Geert Wilders has had to spend *years* fighting this, and had”as well as being very articulate himself”an able, and probably quite expensive, legal team.

Mark Steyn, during his own show trial in Canada, made this same point”not everyone who would speak out is in this position.

    Sheikh Hasan bin Sobah wrote:

As was the case with Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn in Canada, and now with Wilders in Europe, the process was the punishment.
    …………………………

**Yes**. That Wilders had to deal with months and months of court appearances and the anxiety of contemplating fines and even prison time is itself a punishment.

And while an acquittal is fine news, this case may *still* have a chilling effect on those contemplating speaking out. A publication or individual may take a look at what Geert Wilders and Mark Steyn and others have gone through, and decide it is not something they can face”especially if they lack the same resources these men had access to.

It’s hard to deny the truth when video and audio tapes exist and get out for all to see and hear.
    …………………………

I agree. And yet, this trial was *never* about the truth. The truth, in fact, often is no defense in these cases. The judge at the “human rights” court in Canada told Steyn this outright. Shocking.

Of course, it’s good for anyone who loves liberty and sees the threat of Jihad that, more and more, the truth *is* getting out.

Despite my concerns, though, this is a moment to celebrate freedom of speech and the West.

Bravo Geert! Every freedom-loving person owes a debt to your courage and will to fight for our values. Long live freedom of speech!

“Here, in the USA, we need to organize “lawfare” against any and all organizations that push for these things; and, where they are in effect, client groups of the Left need to be targeted for “hate speech” violations”

    Kepha,

I’m kind of surprised that you advocate using the hate-speech laws, rather than discarding them altogether as a violation of our constitutional rights to freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech applies to Nazies, communists, Muslims, and holocaust-deniers. Our protection is in exposing the truth, not in suppressing lies. Any restriction on freedom of expression, except outright libel (lies, not slander) ought to be treated as an attack on our liberties.

    Irenaeus,

I didn’t bother reading the rest of your link after reading only part of the opening line, a typical piece of BBC slanting:

    “Dutch far-right politician Geert Wilders…”

Right out of the traps, they set him up as an irrational, maniac racist by framing him as a “far-right politician”, with all the imagery that conjures up for the reader nowadays. Especially for BBC and Guardian acolytes. The subtext is “this guy was lucky to get off – he’s a hardcore, right-wing racist. Just like the Nazis. You’d better believe it, because we’re the BBC and what we say is always true.”

    Irenaeus Chrysostom wrote:

Has anyone read the BBC’s take on this? If not you ought to, if only to catch them red-handed in spewing their biased misinformation.
    ………………………….

Bleh. Thanks for the link, Irenaeus. Here’s a related story from the BBC, which is even more appalling:

“Netherlands Islam: Wilders verdict stirs up debate”

    ‘Creating hate’

“I’m very disappointed,” said one Dutch Moroccan, Zenap al-Garboni, eating a bagel with her children in a restaurant near the courthouse.

“He should not create hate and that’s what he’s doing. He’s creating hate against Islam.”

Her 11-year-old daughter Amra added: “When I see it on TV it really scares me. For all the children, it’s really scary to see and I think it shouldn’t be like that.”

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13891130

How low is this? The idea that exposing the danger of Islam makes things *scary for little girls*. What crap.

The profound threat Islam presents to kids”and everyone else”in the Netherlands is, of course, never touched on.

  52. says

Maybe the lawfare would involve suits against certain persons and organizations, accusing them of conspiracy to violate civil rights. On the face of it, their proposed “hate speech” laws are conspiracies to violate the First Amendment.

Where such laws are in place, target Leftist clients. That will force the purveyors of such laws to retreat.

  53. says

“Of course they want a left-wing, totalitarian state where they can imprison their political foes for thoughtcrimes, but unfortunately for them they didn’t sufficiently chip away at the legal structures that our forefathers in the West built; they brought these men to trial before they had sufficiently rigged the system.”

Very true. Their problem comes in a few components.

First, Geert Wilders is a sane and articulate man who was always careful with his words. The PCMC police really had very little on him. Another target may have been easier.

Second, this case is interesting since Europe is where the “chipping” is most advanced. In the U.S the First Amendment is more sacred, and more protected. It is a fact that the advance of U.S. “hate-crime” laws requires reference to “successful” European and Canadian models. These defeats have international repercussions.

Third, the proponents of “hate-speech” laws have another problem: deep down some of them often do believe in free speech too. Their “chipping” and “rigging” will often fail at least until they have their “October Revolution” moment.

Let me add that I think Mark Steyn was right on the mark when he commented that “the process is the punishment”. The multiculti establishment knew from the very start that a full conviction was nearly impossible. Furthermore, it is important to realize that Geert Wilders is not free at all. He still needs 24/7 protection and the trial only fell short on a minor point in that the criminalization of Wilders and his party wasn’t officially “legitimized”.

This whole trial was a shame and I can’t see that much of a victory for freedom when Wilders is acquitted by a local bunch of PC/MC clowns who turned a courtroom into a legal circus. While living under a multicultural (read: Islamic) death threat, he was dragged to court. Now he may resume his life in hiding.

But not in silence. Not when we speak out on behalf of freedom.

You argue your point well, Sagunto, as you always do, but I would maintain that Wilders still won a victory in the sense that it would have been far worse had a conviction occurred. There’s also the factor of how this trial was followed for months by many across the world, and this in and of itself highlighted the many truths about the decrepit religion which is Islam which Geert Wilders has courageously and intelligently addressed for all who have the common sense to see the veracity and wisdom of his statements. This trial gave Wilders a larger audience with which to convey his views on a most nefarious belief system. This, at least, is one positive which came out of the farcical prosecution against him. Finally, Leftworld was shown again to folks at large as another decrepit belief system which has many of the same totalitarian strains that Islam has. Another plus I would argue.

His party is doing just fine over the last couple of years, so many of his fellow Dutch citizens seem to appreciate and even vote for him. This trial, whether Wilders would have been acquitted or not, will always be brought to bear on any changes in popularity. My own estimation of the outcome of this shameful legal witch hunt, is that it really doesn’t matter for people to discover that Islam is a huge problem in our society. Let me remind those who think it does, that the political debate on Islam (as a backward culture and ideology) has been going on over here since Bolkestein, as a mainstream politician, began to criticize multiculturalism and specifically Islam, since 1990.

Wilders is the politician who has inherited the legacy of the Fortuyn revolution. Pim Fortuyn – much more eloquent and charismatic than Geert Wilders btw. – provided the answer to the remaining popularity of any politician, brave enough to make a stand against Islam and its appeasers and lead the fight for freedom.

Here’s the video link to this great Dutch martyr of our cause, where he says [time stamp 03:55]:

“Dan maar ik afgemaakt, ok prima! Maar het probleem meneer, dat blijft!”
