It sounds as if Brooks Papineau was on the brink of misunderstanding Islam. Was he by any chance acquainted with Khalid Abdul-Latif and Walli Mujahidh?

He died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
"The driver exited his vehicle armed with a gun, and the officer opened fire, striking the subject," said Mark Fulghum of the Tacoma Police Department.
When police searched Papineau's truck, they found a large amount of ammunition and additional ammunition magazines.They also said they found a Koran and several books on converting to Islam....

Need to know more before commenting on this one. .just read the guy's obit and it raises more questions.
Gig Harbor is close to where I live - it's very serene. Hard to imagine something like this might happen there but it only takes one devout Muslim to be the turd in the punch bowl.
You always need to be careful with gun stories in the press. Armor piercing could just be hollow-points and a large amount of ammunition could be a 250 bulk pack.
If he was on a personal Jihad against police, getting out of the car with a gun in your hand is not a good way to do it. Most police are very much on alert when first pulling over a car.
"Papineau went home sick from his job at the U.S. Postal Service at about 8 p.m." 2 a.m. Police suspect him of drinking and driving.
The USPS is downsizing, recently announcing more historic layoffs.
Unionized letter carriers north of the border have been on strike for the last three weeks.

There's nothing to indicate, so far, that he was a convert aside from the books in his trunk. .if they were there in the first place.
Well, all his friends and family will express shock...He's such a good boy....Most likely he found the books and the gun on the side of the road, and was only going to show it to police and turn it over to them...But typically the police misinterpreted his intent, and opened fire...It was just poor judgement to get out of the car with the gun in his hand, he had no evil intent...Islam had nothing to do with it...
But it is curious that a Mahoundian would abandon his Quran and gun on the side of the road...It's also interesting that a Quran and a gun were in close proximity to each other...That seems to happen a lot...HMMM maybe Islam does have something to do with it after all...

I think a reasonable man ~ with enough general background info ~ could see the evidence this way:
Possession of a Koran isn't necessarily a red flag, but the combination of that with the conversion stuff suggests Papineau was looking for answers and perhaps thought he'd found them in Islam.
Ambushing cops has always been near the top of the list of murderous jihadi strategies. That method has been again suggested in recent terrorist inter-office "memos".
I'll put my money on Papineau being a "sudden jihadist" and give the TPD offficer a pat on the back for punching his ticket to paradise.
If someone's got the idea in their head to go shoot up some place, why'd they take a bunch of books with them ?

I've been thinking lately about what we need to do to spread our message faster and more effectively. As many already know, this is mostly a war of propaganda. The islamists are doing a better job at it than us, partly because they've been at it for 1400 years. We must learn from them how to do propaganda. Some things that they do is that they 'educate' our news people by going in and giving presentations to them to sway their perspective to fit their agenda. They do the same with our police, educators, politicians at all levels, newspapers and magazines. These are the people who then educate the masses. My thinking is that WE need to undertake such a plan. We need a team of people who can go in to these places with a clear and hard hitting presentation so as to educate them to be on our side. Then we will begin to create friends in the media, etc, who would be reporting the truth and not the false lies of the islamic propagandists. We need to change the minds of those people so that instead of them being useful idiots supporting islam, they will be fighting on the right side. This is a big project that would need a very well thought out presentation that is then taught to enough people who could then carry it out and replicate it all over the country. This could lead to follow up seminars that would be longer and more in depth. I'm just brain storming here folks. What do you think?

Some people suicide by taking pills, ramming their car into a telephone pole... some prefer death by cop. Forcing a cop to make a decision like this and going out this way doesn't seem like suicide so if he has insurance policy, it won't be cancelled for things like this (I could be wrong). I do know suicide will cancel life insurance policies, not sure about anything else.

If he's done time, you can find the conversion link. He was clearly off the wagon, which many prison converts are, because there's no fascist in charge of your life and decisions any more.
But, if he was killed by the kuffar in the way of striving for Allah, we all know that means he gets to go to his virgins and pearly boys.
Then his hard-drinking ways are excused completely because he was prepared to kill non-Muslims who had rejected Allah.
So it could be suicide by cop as well as jihad.

I'd guess it'd be hard to organize this.
Your premise of being far more aggressive in getting the truth out about Islam is clearly needed and Robert, Pamela, ACT, and may others are building momentum in this regard.
You might look into ACT to see if that organization appeals to you. They do a fair bit of local organizing against Islam apologists and those who suffer injustice at the hands of Muslim apologists.
Speaking for myself, when universities are in session, I devote several hours a day responding to Muslim apologists in univeristy internet newspapers. It's mostly fun because Muslim apologists have nothing at their disposal other than lies, more lies and then changing the subject by attacking the truth teller.
Spread the word and education are key as you suggest.
Wonder what CAIR will have to say about this curious case of gum-pulling catholicism. .guess they'll try pin it on the 2nd.

I have family just down the coast from there in Oregon, bford—in the North Bend/Coos Bay area.
This may indeed be an idyllic spot, but Jihadists have turned up in the region before—with Jihad-training camps out in the woods and the plot to target the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in nearby Portland.

Myself, I suspect that the jihad gang bosses are **deliberately** decentralising operations, so to speak. The security is tight on the big airports...so perhaps they'll go for the small ones. Security is tight in the big cities...so maybe the American Beslan, or the Australian Beslan, will be staged way out in the sticks, in a medium-size regional town, say.
Islam always, always, always prefers the 'soft' targets.
And their mindset is one of concealment, of striking from ambush.
Another thing to think about, for Australians, Americans, Canadians, hey, everybody, Indians too, and even Europeans, is that jihad gangs *based* in our cities, may head off out to the sticks to conduct live-fire and real-explosions jihad training exercises. So our park rangers, forest rangers, and farmers who live on distant hillsides next to national parks and reserves - basically, next to 'empty' or rugged country that a group of jihadists might select for 'exercises' - need to know this. They need to be on the lookout. And they need to know that if Muslims suddenly turn up in their town, that those Muslims have to be **watched**; that they may quite well be Up To No Good.
So it's up to us, all over the West and beyond, who know this, to do what we can to spread awareness of Jihad, and Sharia Creep, to those of our fellow citizens who inhabit the furthest and most apparently peaceful and least populous corners of our homelands - because those people need to be eyes and ears, looking out for anything that "doesn't look right".
