Former Spanish PM: How not to have a Palestinian state

"Serious Palestinians know very well that they do not meet the internal and external requirements to become a viable state, much less to become a new UN member-state with all its attendant obligations."

"How not to have a Palestinian state," by José María Aznar for YNet News, July 16:

The unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state, and its international recognition, would be a huge mistake. A peace agreement between Israelis and Palestinians is essential, but it can only be achieved through honest negotiations –not by any party imposing a unilateral decision.
Over the past two years, the Palestinian Authority has refused to sit at the negotiating table with the Israeli government, hiding behind the excuse of Israeli construction work on a few West Bank settlements. At the same time, however, it has been negotiating the creation of a national unity government with Hamas, a terrorist group whose stated aim is the elimination of Israel.
A Palestinian “government” of a unilaterally established, self-declared “Palestinian state,” in which Hamas is a member of the governing coalition, will make negotiations, much less a peace agreement, impossible: no negotiation is possible, and no agreement is possible, when one side is committed to the other’s destruction.
US President Barack H. Obama has recently advocated a return to talks based on the pre-1967 lines with mutual land-swaps. But even those lines, as originally delineated in the 1949 Armistice Agreements, were subject to negotiations in accordance with UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338, which both sides agreed at the time would be the basis for a future peace agreement. Any future border, according to these resolutions, must be the outcome of a negotiated agreement.
The unilateral declaration of Palestinian statehood is also a clumsily concealed de-legitimization device. Serious Palestinians know very well that they do not meet the internal and external requirements to become a viable state, much less to become a new UN member-state with all its attendant obligations. Their objective is different: the unilateral declaration is, in reality, simply another tactic in a broader strategy of embarrassing and then de-legitimizing the State of Israel.
There is no historical, institutional or legal basis on which to recognize a Palestinian state today, except as a kind of “virtual state,” which exists in some fashion in the imaginations of various parties but which has no tether to reality. In the West Bank, Palestinians crucially depend on Israeli cooperation to function. Other more modern aspects of statehood, such as respect for human rights, freedom and a functioning democracy - all of which are required of other countries seeking recognition - are sadly lacking in the Palestinian case.
Indeed, this rush to a unilateral declaration of statehood, including the intra-Palestinian negotiations with Hamas, is impeding the deeper formation of civil society in the West Bank, which has made progress in recent years and which is essential to any enduring peace.
Blackmail will lead to disaster
A declaration of Palestinian statehood by the United Nations General Assembly will be an act of political manoeuvring that will only make it even more difficult to find a solution. Unilateral action will have unforeseeable consequences, so the only true way forward is through a bilateral agreement.
This is not the time for destructive gestures: it is time to encourage everyone to sit down and negotiate, face to face, with no pre-conditions other than mutual and unequivocal recognition.
There cannot be two states, living in peace side by side, unless Palestinians accept that Israel is the nation-state of the Jewish people and the Israelis accept that the Palestinian State will be the state for the Palestinian people. Absent that basis, no genuine progress will be made.

Israel has negotiated in good faith. The Palestinian side has squandered 31 opportunities for statehood.

The government in Jerusalem has said on numerous occasions that it is ready to talk. Now is the moment of truth for the Palestinians. They must choose negotiation, with all that negotiating entails, including concessions by both parties.
The alternative is for the representatives of the Palestinian people to continue demonizing their only possible negotiating partner, while expecting the international community to tilt the scales in their own favour. But blackmail will lead to disaster. Negotiations must be conducted in good faith and not as a means of exerting various forms of international pressure.
It is time for the international community, starting with the UN, to say that the time for game-playing and wishful thinking is past. Serious negotiations can only be conducted by Israelis and Palestinians themselves, no matter how much help or goodwill is provided from the outside. A unilaterally declared Palestinian State, which is not the product of bilateral negotiations, is a demand that Israel accept the unacceptable.
Diplomacy demands, above all, negotiation and agreement, not unilateral demands imposed with contempt....

“If Israel goes down … we ALL go down”
Jose Maria Aznar, former PM of Spain

The name Palestine is not an Arabic name.
It is a Roman name, for the region around the Jordan river

It means: Philistine

Palestin has never been a state:
It was only a British Mandate of Palestine 1922-1948
— 78% went to Jordan

Great article, great man, Aznar.

Let the Palestine Authority leave Hamas alone. Let them even let Gaza go it's own way. And go for a 3-state-solution!

The Palestinians should be told and realise that they are forfeiting the future of their children if they do not really endeavor for a fair and honorable peace deal. When the Israeli's clearly are no longer the obstacle to peace. They are genuinely interested in reasonable peace and move on with their country, which is going places, what with good economy, great technological progress.

Palestinians and helpers should realise that they are responsible for the well-being of their descendants too. And neglecting their duty to them should be held against them. These descendants don't need more land, dust, statehood. They need peace and prosperity, and following that education, autonomy, happiness. Give Israel defensible borders at least, and ask generous financial compensation, that's OK.

And otherwise? Look, what are the Israeli's and Palestinians going towards? The Israeli's seem to have caught up demographically with the Palestinians, in 2050 there could well be about 24 million Israeli's. They are poised to become indepent on energy, of which they will have plenty, they will have the best technology, the most educated people. They seem to be unbeatable and Palestinians should realise when "a chess game is lost".

But, we here all know that it is the medieval belief in Islam is the real cause of their stubborn and violent behavior, which is bordering on the insane irresponsible.

The US government is getting into a very BAD habit of "giving away" what's not theirs to give. After Bosnia and Kosovo, I believe it's time to stop. Didn't work in Europe, and there are already serious consequences. It's time to stop "policing the world" and time to pay more attention on what's going on at home. It's simply preposterous to DICTATE a sovereign country what to do.

And as Stephani said above...there's always be Jordan (and SA)... My question is... since all the muslim countries so deeply sympathize with the Palestinians, why don't they grant them citizenship? They live in many of these countries having only "visitor" status.
It's simply because ALL of them want to carve as much as they can out of Israel...

sit down and negotiate, face to face, with no pre-conditions other than mutual and unequivocal recognition.

There's the fly in the ointment...'mutual and unequivocal recognition' is out of the question. Allah makes it clear in his books, that the pious are not supposed to give Jews/Israel either one of those...Allah hates Jews so much he turned some of them into apes and pigs...Mahound said that the 'Last Days', won't come until Mahoundians kill Jews, and tree's and rocks start talking, 'O Muslim, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him'...Tree's and rocks hate Jews too...
Considering that Allah hates Jews, and Jews are on a land given to Mahoundians by Allah, how can there be 'mutual and unequivocal recognition'? Any Mahoundian who actually does that is 'warring with Allah', and is technically qualified for punishment Q 5:33 style...That's not a very good way for a Mahoundian to get into Paradise...Give them one state, two states, three states or four, the jihad against Israel will continue as before...Allah willing...and he always is...

Countries wishing to be admitted to the UN as full members should satisfy the following simple criteria.

Give the date when their country was founded, and by whom
Offer evidence of several historical contracts or legal agreements with surrounding countries connected with trade, or national treaties
Name several rulers from their history within the last 500 years
Name the capital city of their country, or state.
Offer evidence of a homogeneous literary and cultural history
Name the currency and show the history of its development

That would provide a bit of sharp focus on the 'Palestine' myth. If not, then we might as well admit Alice's 'Wonderland' as a member of the UN.

Islam's clowns from the nightmare circus of jihad!

Other more modern aspects of statehood, such as respect for human rights, freedom and a functioning democracy - all of which are required of other countries seeking recognition - are sadly lacking in the Palestinian case.

Ah, but if "Allah wills it" all other arguments are null and void. How do we know Allah wills it? You doubt it? You have arguments? We kill you! ... There (smug self satisfaction by Gaza mullah) in good faith, that's how 'Allah wills it'. ... Any questions?

Aznar was always the sensible one. It was a great shame he was made to resign after the Madrid bombing and the wishy washy dhimmi Zapatero took over.

Thank you Stephanie, I never knew that, and after a little research I learnt that it is from the term "Philistines" that the name "Palestinians" has been taken. Actually, the ancient Philistines and modern Palestinians have something in common: both are invaders from other lands! That is precisely the meaning of their name, that is not an ethnic denomination but an adjective applied to them: Peleshet, from the verb "pelesh", "dividers", "penetrators" or "invaders". The Philistines were a confederation of non-Semitic peoples coming from Crete, the Aegean Islands and Asia Minor, also known as "Sea Peoples". We also have them to thank for the definition of Philistine which is: If you call someone a philistine, you mean that they do not care about or understand good art, music, or literature, and do not think that they are important. Well, doesn't that explain a lot?

Back to Milisa - yes CGW ridiculous name and bad use of English. We really want to know where she hails from. She loves using "quotes" and her grammar is quite appalling.

The problem with the Muslims is their adherence to the Koran that urges them NEVER to be friends with Jews,Christian,or Infidels and convert them to Islam or enslave or kill them them ,if they refuse.

When we read the Koran, all the muslim atrocities, misogyny and their Jihad for world conquest is explained ,as it assures the muslim men a place in Paradise if ,they are killed in jihad against the infidels or jews.

READ THE KORAN TO LEARN WHAT THE MUSLIMS HAVE IN STORE FOR YOU ESPECIALLY, IF YOU ARE A WOMAN!

It can be read over a weekend! It is only ~ 434 pages long and you will see that it is a distorted copy of the OLD TESTAMENT! MOUHAMAD WAS A SATANIC GENIOUS!

Does anyone remember the 1920's when Trans "Mordor" took a good 60% of Israel in one fell swoop leaving Israel easier to attack when it finally gained independence on May 14th 1948? Does anyone remember the furor of so many countries including the UN when Israel beat all the countries threatening and intentionally warring to throw them into the sea? Does anyone remember the papers signed AFTER the 1956 war which America guaranteed the Suez would always be open and defended for Israeli shipping? I mean our only five star general Eisenhower SIGNED it.
Later in 1964 losing Black September and killing his own people Arafart( sp?) created a fictional "state" called "Palestine, the word from Rome after Titus burned, leveled Jerusalem and called the new city Capitolina. Palestine...a barb against ANY Jew who had the audacity to take on the Romans so they named it after their arch enemies the Philistines who had commandeered a strip of land then and now known as the Gaza Strip( Eastern Israel was where Edom. or Moab lived( see book of Ruth granddaughter of Rahab from the city of Jericho who ironically worshiped a crescent moon?)
Anyone remember how Israel strengthened it's borders and took Jerusalem( Jordan had partitioned it), took the Golan Heights( where Syrian guns would murder simple farmers down in the valley), took all of the Sinai and built beach resorts, discovered oil and inhabited the whole land, everywhere making it into a place of relaxation and recreation plus buttressing the Suez so the Egyptian armies( along with Nasser's treaty with USSR had the most formidable weaponry blown from the skies while America's NSA ship the USS Liberty was picking up all electronic frequencies, sending it back to the Brits who created a map for the Egyptians and it wasn't until their ( Israeli)"holes were being breached( then an electronic jet then the strafing happened BECAUSE the USS Liberty was NOT a navy ship but allied with the Brits to map for the USSR and Nasser to once and for all destroy Israel, I mean Narnia, as "Mordor " is always trying to murder the peaceful people of "Narnia" or am mixing I with JRR Tolkein's books? Eh, never mind, you catch the idea.)

Okay BUT Kissinger( the fake Jew and other words from Jews that lived in Israel) "negotiated" to return all, ALL the Sinai back to the USSR/Russia and told Israel it could go nuclear( that was just one of the rumors) if Israel did not return the spoils of war back to Egypt, BUT with a guarantee of peace.
Peace that took merely 6 years to surprise again, where the Yom Kippur war almost destroyed Israel but Israel again took out all of Syria's air force with only one downed Israeli fighter. Again it was harder in the Sinai( I still confer with Israeli commanders( tank mostly) and others one a teacher of history, female Lt at the time).
Again after suffering many casualties Israel triumphed thanks to a last minute move by Nixon( seems the SD and the CIA tried keeping the news of Israel's downfall from Nixon, (one can read "Soldier Spies, by Samuel, Samuel, The Secret War against the Jews, Loftus/Aarons, From Time Immemorial, Joan Peterson, Benyamin Netanyahu, A Durable Peace and more) all may have been lost.
Okay my lengthy diatribe is only to show Israel again in 1973 and agin with the US Kissinger at the helm threatens G!D knows what and again Israel returns the Sinai( won/EARNED off the blood this time of thousands of dead Jews).
My point? Just modern history, the lies of Lebanon, the lies of Cast Lead, the lies of the 2006 jaunt to the Litani river Hizbollah never acknowledged, the lies of the flotilla's is continuing to do the damage as one does not have to look that far back( check You Tube) in which ALL nations protested Op Cast Lead even though Israel proved there were thousands of rockets fired upon many cities mostly Ashkelon and Sderot and the Negev cities.

Answers? In my own mystical ways I see the Bible as the dispensational map of wars, rumors of wars and worse until Israel's "shalom" is finally attained with the help of her( and our) G!D when HE battles the crecent moon god and the devil himself. Now one can dispute my latter assertions but I challenge anyone that can dispute ALL the true prophecies even Israel becoming a nation to the very day, or Jerusalem won to the very day from back in the days of the first siege of Israel or the second by Nebuchadnezzar. Surely Saddam Hussein read in distorted ways of these prophecies. Surely the enemy knows time is short as our whole world has turned into one big Sodom and Gomorrah.

Don't know if Mr Spencer or Ms Marisol have a written documented Hx of Israel; I am new here, but it would have been easier to just link and refer than write out these points that Israel will not cease to exist but Damascus will( Isa 17:1), G!D will intervene( Psalm 2, Ez 38,39, sorry NOT Harold Camping, I do not know the "day or days of these prophecies but it sure seems very close, at the very doorstep of history)), and all nations will war against Israel someday soon, who knows when but this does NOT mean we should quit trying to educate even one muslim, on Islamist, that there is no G!D but the great I AM! Blessed be the name of the Lord, and blessed is His word He esteems higher than his name.
Okay thus endeth my "book." Israel's enemies should be ashamed but they are emboldened, especially Obama and the "replacement theologians continue to try their evil ways and distort reality one can see if MSM and others will JUST report the TRUTH not some canned BS!
Okay I'm out. *And all Jihad Watch sighed with relief*

PS please do not look to my grammar, it's atrocious, my spelling is good but I have bad nerve problems so usually instead of a one pass or a double pass I just fire off a post and let the grammar queens red line me. As long as he message can be read I'm happy.

Love your information, does'nt the Bible also say it will destroy nations for His people sake. The last war saw 6 million+ Jews murdered, but the 'christian nations' England & Germany lost 60 millions. The haters of Israel & The God of the Ten Commandments know these truths. No Jews, No God, No Christians.
