In FrontPage this morning I discuss Obama's latest warm and welcoming gesture to Islamic supremacists:
The Obama administration is set to begin formal contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood, a group dedicated in its own words to “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within, and sabotaging its miserable house.”This news came in a Reuters report Wednesday, quoting a “senior U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.” Why this official felt it necessary to speak on condition of anonymity is a mystery, given the fact that Barack Obama has never made a secret of his solicitude for the Muslim Brotherhood. Even though the Brotherhood was still outlawed in Egypt at that time, he made a point of inviting leaders of the group to attend his speech to the Islamic world in Cairo on June 4, 2009.
Not only that. Obama included the leader of a Muslim Brotherhood-linked group that had been named an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case among the clerics giving a prayer during his inauguration ceremonies: Ingrid Mattson, then-president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), offered this prayer at the National Cathedral on Obama’s Inauguration Day – despite the fact that ISNA has admitted its ties to the Brotherhood. In fact, so overwhelming is the evidence of ISNA’s involvement with the Brotherhood and Hamas that the previous summer, federal prosecutors had rejected a request from ISNA to remove its unindicted co-conspirator status. Obama even sent his Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett to be the keynote speaker at ISNA’s national convention in 2009.
In light of all that, it is mystifying why the official opted to remain anonymous – surely he had no fear of incurring the wrath of anyone in the Obama high command by spilling these particular beans. Of course, he may have been mindful of how poorly this would play among those aware of the Brotherhood’s pro-Sharia, anti-Israel, anti-American agenda, and so he played up the pragmatic, realpolitik aspects of the decision: “The political landscape in Egypt has changed, and is changing,” he noted. “It is in our interests to engage with all of the parties that are competing for parliament or the presidency.”
The official added that the Obama administration would, in its talks with the Brotherhood, “continue to emphasize the importance of support for democratic principles and a commitment to nonviolence, and respect for minority and women’s rights in conversations with all groups, including the Muslim Brotherhood.”
Good luck with that. The Muslim Brotherhood, contrary to “intelligence” chief James Clapper’s ridiculous claim that it is “largely secular,” is dedicated to establishing an Islamic state in Egypt and implementing the Islamic law that has no room for democratic principles, uses violence against dissenters and miscreants, and tramples upon minority rights and women’s rights. Then there is the movement’s inveterate anti-Semitism: not only does the jihad terrorist group Hamas style itself as the Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine, but recently the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie said: “Allah has warned us the tricks of the Jews, and their role in igniting the fire of wars… and they labor hard to spread corruption on earth: and Allah does not love the spreaders of corruption.”...
Obama is essentially (and I know many on this site will not like this, since they hate the man) a well-meaning, naive amateur. He is being advised by incompetents like Clapper, who know, and care, nothing about the nature of the forces they are supposed to be studying (and, when necessary, defending the nation against). God help us all.
Actually, Macck, I tend to agree with your assessment. Add to the list of incompetent advisers people like Samantha Power and Hillary Clinton, who got us into the Libyan fracas.
The things for which I despise Obama are his opposition to a proposed Illinois law that would have protected survivors of late-term, partial birth abortion, his long-term association with a racist church, and associations with political kooks like Van Jones and his Maoist press secretary.
Once, I thought Obama's having spent some of his childhood and youth abroad might have made him a little more understanding of the rest of the world (although this did not bring me to vote for him). Now, however, I think his whole mindset has been shaped by self-hating Americans.

I would like to see a moderate Democrat challenging Obama, and winning. Americans are better off with candidates from the center in both parties. The system of primaries, where the candidates must attract the party faithful, has the effect of giving us candidates polarized at both ends.
Obama does not represent the best Democratic thinking on foreign affairs. I think it is a viable strategy to understand and support opposition to Obama within the Democratic party, even if we disagree with many of their positions. The important thing is to maintain a dialog, since policies such as cozying up to the Muslim Brotherhood obviously cannot stand up to critical thinking or analysis.

Unfortunately, US administrations have not learned they cannot dictate either the politics or the governments of the Middle East. At best, they can continue to squander the lives of our soldiers and our national treasury in fruitless efforts at global gamesmanship.
The US government cannot even influence the positions of Muslim organizations inside the US, let alone the deeply-committed Islamists of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. The largest effect we could have on promoting democracy and prosperity in the Middle East is to continue our support of Israel, and quit deluding ourselves that we are moderating the positions of the Palestinian Authority, Hamas, or the Muslim Brotherhood.
We may have to negotiate, under some circumstances, with these groups, but should do so only out of necessity, and should not fool ourselves that we are moderating their positions in any way.

Obama….has already picked the “moderate” Muslim Brotherhood as his partner for promoting American interests in the Arab world in place of their ousted rulers. He will discover shortly that you can pet a scorpion but you cannot change its nature.
His determination to pursue this folly comes as no surprise given the recent Wikileak stating that his Administration had worked covertly with the Muslim Brotherhood for some time to bring down the Mubarak government long before the so-called “Arab Spring” of 2011. Within days of demonstrations erupting in Tahrir Square and elsewhere in Egypt, President Obama was calling for his Egyptian counterpart’s immediate removal from power - the sort of statement he has effectively refrained from making either in Iran or Syria, where demonstrations have gone on longer, and have been considerably bloodier….his fundamental misunderstanding of the tribal and religious nature of Arab societies, the extent to which political Islam prohibits resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the dangers inherent in establishing alliances with radical Islamists whose sole raison d’etre is the establishment of Sharia throughout the Middle East and the destruction of American interests and influence in the region - most notably Israel……
It seems to me, we in America have to ask these essential questions. Why are there dictatorships throughout the Muslim world, and why have there been for decades, even centuries? Is there something inherent in the religion and the culture that does not lend itself to 'popular sovereignty'? Are American leaders seeking to upset a delicate balance that has existed in the region for centuries, in order to impose a form of governance in our image, that will not work?
In the video I linked to above, Dana Perino makes this statement that has become conventional wisdom; one that had her Fox News hosts nodding in agreement. Perino: "I think that at the base level everyone has an inherent right to freedom. That was President Bush's position...."
Is it true, everyone has an inherent right to freedom? Or is freedom an ideal that everyone should pursue, but has to be earned?
Let's analyze this shibboleth that "everyone has an iherent right to freedom."

In light of this, are we to believe, Egyptians have inherent right to freedom?
I've got to concur with Katharina. I do not think Mr. Obama is a well-meaning, naive-amateur in the least. This is a very savvy and evil man. He knows exactly what he is doing to this country by design. Obama is no puppet, conspiracy theorists notwithstanding. This is a very skilled and dedicated man.
Furthermore, one does not have to "hate" the man to know who and what he is and what he is doing to this nation by design. I am not a good hater, yet I know what he is.

I do not deny corrupt politicians are corrupted by weatlhy individuals and groups. Bush was corrupted by the Saudis. Obama is corrupted by his contributors and financiers, not excluding George Soros. I think that Obama has his own mind. While I think he's naive in foreign affairs (once you get too far from Canada and Western Europe, at least), I'm sure he knows what he's doing in his domestic agenda.
Your idea that George Soros is pulling Obama's strings smacks too much of the "sinister Jewish manipulator" myth of yesteryear (for the record, I am a Christian fanatic, non-dispensationalist, and Jewish on the wrong side of the family tree for it to count in Rabbinical eyes). Obama is a child of the American New Left tinged with a bit of Afrocentric so-called "spirituality". Obama's hatred for anyone who respects a mostly white Christian American heritage and acceptance of New Left Marxism may be leading him to believe that the he can enter into a constructive "dialogue" with the MB because it represents erstwhile "excluded people" and "wretched of the earth". He doesn't need George Soros for that.
Further, having worked with the State Department in the past, I know that you sometimes have to talk to people whom you don't really like. The Muslim Brother hood is a force on the ground in the Arab world, and nobody we try to cultivate against them there will have any real street credibility. For anything worthwhile to take place in the Arab world, we'll probably have to wait until a future MB-inspired "Noble Army of Martyrs for the Liberation of al-Quds" gets turned into sauerkraut by an Israel that once again recognizes that its choices are victory are death, and cause the MB and allies to look just as foolish as King Farouk, Nasser, and others before them. That's when the more reasonable voices in the Arab world will be able to tell everyone else, "Look, I told you so..." and get heard.

I'm not so sure. Obama is a very dangerous man. Average does not begin to explain the success he's had undermining (fundamentally transforming) the institutions that made this nation great. Average does not explain the success he is having, fundamentally transforming the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa into and even more dangerous and deadly part of the globe. Israel's leaders are aware of this. I will have to wait to see how history judges Obama, whether he was average or not so average. He does not seem so average to me, judging by his success.
I don't believe for one moment Obama is an "average" president. I certainly don't remember any other president doing this much damage to America in his first 3 years. He knows what his goal is and although he is definitely not an expert in every area I do not discount the evil he is capable of inflicting in the implementation of his plan. I hate to keep beating a high horse (to mix the metaphor), but I honestly thing Obama so far has not come close to George Bush the son in damaging the US. Bush destroyed the government and society in Iraq, and neutralized the most powerful balance to Iran in the region, outside of Israel. Iraq is now a suburb of Iran, and Iran now concentrates on supporting Hezbollah, giving arms to the Afghan Taliban, and most likely is supporting sleeper cells in the US at this moment.
Bush also invaded Afghanistan, which he had a right to do, even if his subsequent occupation was brainless. Bush instructed the US soldiers to allow Afghan troops to take over the Tora Bora sector, so they could have bragging rights. This resulted in the escape of Osama bin Laden.
The result of both catastrophes has been a 10-year extended war, draining our armed forces and our treasury. And, it is obvious both countries will revert to tribal Islamism as soon as we leave.
If you give me something worse which Obama has done, I will gladly change my opinion.
