Spencer on the BBC answers the Norway murder smears

Spencer, Atlas Shrugs, etc, are no more to blame, or are culpable for, what happened in Norway, then Nietzsche is for Nazi Germany. The National Socialists may well have referred to Nietzsche and quoted him, but they misused and abused his writings, and did not take heed to what he *actually* said. The Nazis who claimed inspiration or sustenance from Nietzsche merely read what they wanted to read, in his writings. Nietzsche, for example, hated anti-Semites.

The same is happening here. How offensive and vulgar that the leftist/liberal media - who would have absolute hegemony over the broadcast media, if not for Murdoch (who they were in the process of smearing, prior to this horrific event) - are manipulating the news to serve their agenda.

There may be many newcomers here who, in light of the recent bombing and shooting spree in Norway, have come to Jihad Watch to learn about who Robert Spencer is.

I have followed Jihad Watch for years. I have read all of Robert's books. I have watched all of his debates online... I have never ever read or seen anything from Robert which could have been twisted to endorse or advocate the kind of senseless murder we saw in Norway.

Robert is a passionate, kind-natured, and articulate defender of human, individual, and women's rights and human freedoms... He is a strong advocate of freedom of speech and of expression. He is someone who cares deeply about others and who has a profound respect for human life and human dignity.

Those who would attempt to vilify or demonize Robert for having some part in this senseless killing spree are making a false and extraordinarily lazy moral equivalency.

Let us please attempt to have some perspective.

Do not let these senseless attacks by Anders Breivik, who is clearly a sick psychopathic individual, blind you to the truth.

Radical Islam (not all Muslims, obviously) is an ideology of hatred, misogyny, and bigotry, and has been the number 1 purveyor of worldwide human rights abuses in the last 10 years.

While the Norway attack was horrific, and tragic, and despicable... (and immediately denounced by virtually everyone on "the hard right" including Robert Spencer) it simply does not hold a candle to to the kind of violence, and hatred, and misogyny that we have seen by radical Islamists since 9/11.

And Robert, I think I speak for many here when I say that we stand behind you, we are grateful for your sacrifice and your commitment to truth, and we thank you for being who you are: A strong, determined defender of human rights, and a true American patriot.

Spencer handled this interview brilliantly. The BBC interviewer tried with every single question to score on Spencer. But Spencer stopped the puck every time and repeatedly knocked it right into the other side's goal. This is why Spencer is boycotted more than debated. He's too difficult to beat.

That was great! The BBC fool obviously hit you with his best shot, a quote of yours Breivik invoked in his "manifesto":

This dopey BBC interviewer was just repeating what the CIA dolt was saying in the now infamous NYT article with this BBC guy’s reference to “the emergence of Al Qaeda from Islamic Salafism ideology” and asking if Robert acknowledges that “extremes can emerge from a more rationally expressed ideology.” (As if Salafism is “rational.”) Either the BBC mindlessly cribbed it from the NYT article or there are some talking points being circulated.

Either way, more joke journalism.

I don't see any signs of pathology nigher in Breviks political manifesto nor in his criminal actions. He is definitely not a sociopath, but he could be a delusional narcissist to some degree.

The mass murderer did what the did because he found it necessary (based on a 'rational' analysis), and had to overcome himself to do it. On the island he let one 11 year old boy get away after the boy pleaded for his life and told the killer that he had shot his father.

Brevik seems to be another example of what the political philosopher Hannah Arendt called 'the banality of evil'.

During the imprisonment of Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann before his trial, the Israeli government sent no less than six psychologists to examine Eichmann. Not only did these doctors find no trace of mental illness, but they also found no evidence of abnormal personality whatsoever. One doctor remarked that his overall attitude towards other people, especially his family and friends, was "highly desirable", while another remarked that the only unusual trait Eichmann displayed was being more "normal" in his habits and speech than the average person.

Arendt suggests that this most strikingly discredits the idea that the Nazi criminals were manifestly psychopathic and different from "normal" people. From this document, many concluded that situations such as the Holocaust can make even the most ordinary of people commit horrendous crimes with the proper incentives, but Arendt adamantly disagreed with this interpretation, as Eichmann was voluntarily following the Führerprinzip.

The difference is that Brevik was his own Führer, made his own principles and followed the 'logical' conclusions he arrived at.

Mr. Spencer handled himself very well and I don't believe his credibility is really hurt by this insane Norwegian's atrocities or his name dropping. Virtually anything written has the potential to be falsely used, associated or called an inspiration for a mad man. Does this interviewer want free speech and expression limited by what might be falsely used? Then there would be no free speech at all.

As Robert Spencer's scholarship more than reasonably notes in 10 books and hundreds if not thousands of articles , Islamic Supremacy is and has been a threat for nearly 1,400 years to the non Muslim world and the most important thing to do is to protect and preserve a nations laws from any efforts at sharia.

A nation has a duty not only to defend and protect itself from enemies both foreign and abroad, to do otherwise is to invite the Trojan Horse of Islam into the nations parlor.

There is one upside in all this mess, all this media attention is free publicity for the anti-jihadist movement and might make Pamela and Robert household names. Once the masses of neutral people do some research, they will realize that you have been right all along.

While I don't like that they reduce your interviews to 10 second sound-bites, at least they've given you a huge platform on the MSM to represent our perspective-something that the media has refrained from doing for a very long time-aside from Fox News and a few other smaller outlets.

Listening to the interview has once again convinced me that Robert Spencer is a God-sent to the naive community of the West.

I hope nobody takes offense, but I have come to believe that Spencer was more comfortable when JW operated as an Academic vehicle. Frankly, I kinda liked it better that way too. The Activist phase didn't really start until the Ground Zero Mosque issue. I would like to see him leave activism to his dear friend Pamela Geller. I believe in the rule: don't bite off more than you can chew.

As for the name "Jihad Watch," jihad - or mohammadan-aggression - is an outshot of muhammad's sharia-dictate: "jihad is prescribed to you." I am really anti-sharia more than anti-jihadi.

The writer doesn't mention that without the hadiths, Muslims would not even know how to practice the five pillars of Islam.

Nor does the writer mention that the Qur'an repeatedly says -- over 25 times -- to obey Muhammad. Well, how can a Muslim do that? He has to look at the Hadith. The Qur'an can be pretty bloody harsh toward infidels, but hadiths really spell things out. And don't forget the earliest Muslim biography of Muhammad. It's great that the writer supports spreading liberty in the Islamic realms. But how are Muslims to abandon the Hadith, as the writer suggests, even though the Qur'an says Muslims must obey Muhammad? And the Hadith, and I mean only the most canonical, "sahih" hadiths, show Muhammad as a totalitarian. In 1954, Bernard Lewis wrote an essay in which he said there was a real kinship between Communism and Islam. He quotes the line, "There is no God, and Marx is his prophet." You can find an excerpt from that essay at the website I linked just above.

Unfortunately, Islam looks set to achieve in Europe what Communism never could. Islam has greater numbers, greater fanaticism, and a much more profound, complex and powerful set of totalitarian expansionist strategies than does Communism.

To persuade me, the writer would have to go head to head with Robert Spencer, and win the debate. Spencer seems to be the only one now who has the guts and clarity to tell the truth about this stuff. As a whistle Blower I have been financially punished sicne 2008 and had to quit after 26 years,I was attacked by the banks lawyers that lied about me as a malcontent and bad employee even though they employeed me for 25 years.
The Bank fears offending Muslims and fear terrosim acts on their building ever since the Toronto-18 Islamist jihadist were convicted for plotting to slaughter 10'000+ candians for Allah because canada opposed Afghan letting Al-Qaeda use it for Terrosim training camps. But it got worse, this public event also had acts of Child-abuse and quasi-pedophilia displays that they could not comdemn because Muhammed was a Pedophile too.

It became very ugly and the Bank spent more on the pro-hamas/pro-Child abuse law Firm to make my life hell, then they would have to just respect my Human Rights to not be forced to condone pedophilia and the murdering of gays in gaza.

Mr. Spencer is the new Joe McCarthy. That sounds like a dire insult, but I actually mean that in the best way possible.

Move them to high government posts, or allowed them to stay in their current positions. They continued to pretend the accusations were only "aleged", until the release of the Verona project (and it seems, even after). McCarthy was very popular with the public, but the media of the day (including the New York Times, surprise, surprise) libeled him, and called him a homosexual (Strange behavior for liberals actually). The MSM and many politicians and citizens have been seen to practice moral equivalence a lot. As I see it, there were in their view extremist on both sides; among Muslims, as among all other groups, and so also among non-Muslims opposed to Islam.

But they equated almost absolutely non-violent, thoroughly democratic opponents of Islam with adherents to really violent oppressing holy texts, interpretations thereof and practitioners thereof. Unjustly Whereas they only should have compared only Timothy McVeigh with those Islamic violent preachers and warriors.

My point it is that Leftists have almost always measured Westerners and Muslims by different standards. But now we can say that, inherently there is no more nobility in Westerners than in Muslims.

But that then means that there is no "Noblesse Oblige" (which is what the Leftists perhaps subconsciously described to Westerners) and that both Westerners and Muslims should be measured by the same standards.

Anders is lucid, but his logic is too often missing vital perspective, and realities.

It also, in Anders auto-biographical portion, makes reference clearly to his very personal experiences with muslim gangs in Oslo, during his childhood teenage years. And so much more...

I have been reading and posting on JW almost daily since time began...Never, not once, has Robert or any writer advocated any kind of violence, or hatred...In fact comments that advocate or suggest violence are deleted...JW has in the past asked readers to report any posts suggesting violence toward Mahoundians or any one else...Spencer is continuously attacked by expert psychopaths with filthy agendas...And not all of them are Mahoundians...All this is a pain, but is actually a plus...It shows desperation, it shows Spencer is having an impact, the more they demonize him the more relevant and important he becomes...because of the linkage more people know his name than ever before...Some people will castigate him, but most will see through the deception, and may become JW regulars...

It took me a while to figure this Norway thing out but I believe one has to go back to 1859 to find a parrallel to the Norway killer. This killer's actions were clearly insane as we all can agree. However, as in the 1859 incident, his core reasoning was/is quite reasonable. The Islamization of Europe is a real threat. This makes the Norway killer different from Communists, Muslims,Starkweather, Unabombers, Texas Tower shooters, Manson, et al.........who this Norwegian is, is John Brown at Harpers Ferry in 1859, i.e., an insane human with the belief that slavery was wrong. And most historians consider Brown's actions important regarding the coming civil war. No one can argue that slavery was wrong and no reasonable person can deny the threat Islam poses today. The question is when will internal warfare break out in Europe? It only took two years after Harpers Ferry and it may take another 20 years in Europe. But it will come.

To blame Robert Spencer for the actions of a neo-Nazis in Norway is like blaming Winston Churchill for the actions of Adolph Hitler in WWII. Churchill was a barometer who predicted the rise of Nazism and the subsequent ascent of Communism. Likewise, Spencer is a political and social weather-vane who continues to warn the world of the impending Islamic storm. Mr. Spencer should be lauded not lashed for his insights.

It seems that the BBC interviewer and others like him pick their own targets out of many others they could have picked to serve their own agenda. This BBC interviewer is definitely not the worst of them. I believe more and more people will in fact look up Robert Spencer to discover who he is: a fearless, staunch defender of freedom and equality for all.

This is the sort of filth and hate I am talking about. I understand that many of the people that post here feel frustrated by the fact that they are supposedly condemned in a book (Quran) that they believe was not actually divine inspiration. Boohoo. That must be tough to live with. Oh yeh, and every person from Morocco to Indonesia as well as the Muslims in the US, Europe (over a billion people) would want to see you tortured, murdered, your wealth taken etc. because its in our good book...

That is the little World you have created for yourselves, you can live in it if you want, not my problem. I haven't left a comment here in maybe a couple of years, never visit, but I'm sure you guys have had a lot of fun commenting on the same articles again, and again, and again. Every year, month, week is the same.

But that doesn't bother me, I am too busy living my own life. What does bother me is the hate and prejudice that is so common within this website. And I'm not simply talking about the comments, they are there for everyone to see. Robert Spencer and others who contribute to this website (who happen to be parroting the same line for God knows how many years) need to appreciate that peddling unbalanced views, presenting a distorted view and continuously lambasting Muslims - regardless of their political viewpoint, nationality, and concentrating on the fact that they are simply 'Muslim' is infact very harmful for promoting understanding.

Have you thought about contacting Ezra Levant with your story? I'm sure you know the HRC gave him much grief, he might be able to offer some advice.
