Egypt: Coptic churches reject Muslim call for massive anti-Israel protest

This takes real courage, for it could lead to violent reprisals from the adherents of the Religion of Peace and Tolerance. It also is heartening in that it shows that significant numbers of Copts are not willing to imbibe Islamic antisemitism and tow the Islamic supremacist political line. Anti-dhimmitude in Egypt: "Egyptian churches reject call for massive anti-Israel protest," by Emad Khalil in AlMasry AlYoum, August 25 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

Egyptian churches announced on Thursday their rejection of a protest scheduled for next Friday to demand the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador to Cairo.

A number of activists who have been staging a sit-in in front of the Israeli Embassy called Tuesday for a million-strong demonstration to take place this Friday to demand the removal of the Israeli ambassador, a move that would likely further strain relations between Cairo and Tel Aviv....

The Coptic Church called for political groups and coalitions to leave the issue to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and the government. It urged youths to cooperate with the military junta so that they do not become separated from their political leaders, as was the case under the former regime.

The Catholic Church spokesman Rafiq Greish said that youth should not interfere in what should be done with the Israeli ambassador and should leave the SCAF to deal with the matter....

OT: "toe ... the line...". (not "tow")

Please excuse the pedantry.....

Now we'll see if it truly is an Arab Spring.

GOD BLESS THE COPTS!

Copts joined with Islamic suprmacists in overthrowing Mubarak, and where did it get them? AN INTENSIFICATION OF ANTI-COPT PERSECUTION. The Copts have drawn the line in the sand and will not join jihadists in Jew hating protests against Israel where Christians are treated with respect and dignity.

Homonyms are another Zionist conspiracy.

well, yeah, it may be pedantic, but i sure noticed it. To me, "tow the line" is right up there with "baited breath" -- either will throw a pall of "is this person really paid to write?" over what follows.

Technically speaking, I mean Homophones.

Tow the line is what a tugboat does, donchaknow.

I know this is somewhat off topic, but I got a copy of Mr. Spencer's _The Myth of Islamic Tolerance_, and wish to extend my thanks to Robert and his associates for putting together such a masterful work. The amount of foot-noting and citation from Islamic source material is also very useful, especially since in my business of swindling the young and their families--OOPS!, public education [well, maybe at this point my Freudian slip is excusable]--this myth is very deeply entrenched and requires some debunking.

I've also taken a peek at Edward Said's _Orientalism_, and now think that I know one reason why the West is the First World and the Islamic World is Third and Fourth. Said seems to be unable to fathom that a large number of Westerners, whether associated with the colonial enterprise or not, possessed a genuine intellectual curiosity about the rest of the world. He can see only an ulterior, colonial motive in pre-modern and modern Western scholarship.

Continuing the OT linguistic discussion, I think @JohnBarile was being tongue in cheek.. but in case not, the origin of "toe the line".
Being a sailor, I always thought it was the reference to seamen standing to attention along a line, hence "toe-ing" it; but the Wiki entry has another possible source as well: the British House of Commons... have a read, it's fun...

it really does take REAL COURAGE when you have been persecuted for 1400 years.

And the Copts also know that if a new, democratically elected Muslim government that is coming will start a Holocaust of their Coptic Christian population, the rescue can only come from Israel. Definitelly not from the Western democracies who denied any help to the Christians of Sudan, 2.5 million of whom had been exterminated. Who allowed the destruction of the ancient, deep-rooted Christian community of Iraq, even while deploying huge troops there. Who had actually joined the Muslims in the murder of Serb Christians and brutal eradication of Christianity from Kosovo.
