Yesterday I posted here about the Ground Zero Mosque Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf's appearance in Scotland, where he said this:

The penal code is the area that people in the Western world are worried about – but these are things that aren’t even observed today in most of the Muslim world. Apart from the Taliban and a few places like that, where do you see this happening?”.
I pointed out in yesterday's post that "if Muslims believe that the Sharia, including its penal code, is Allah's perfect and immutable law, why wouldn't they want to bring it to America and Europe?" And here's a big surprise: Rauf thinks the same way. He completely contradicted his statement above in his 2000 book Islam: A Sacred Law. Jihad Watch reader Kamala points out that in that book, he wrote this on page 58: "And since a Shari'ah is understood as a law with God at its center, it is not possible in principle to limit the Shari'ah to some aspects of human life and leave out others."
He is a smooth, slick liar, and he has deceived the government and media elites. But it is clear to an increasing number of people what his agenda really is.
Good catch, Kamala. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance. This one text here - not to mention the entire book, I'm sure - reveals Rauf's true position. We've all got to keep hammering away at getting the truth out there.

Now if we can just find someone in what passes for "journalism" in our times to report this, some people willing to listen, and some politicians with the spine to stand up and do something about blocking shariah completely and in perpetuity from our legal system, we'll be getting somewhere.

Should any discussion of Sharia Law also raise the notion of what I might call Sharia Preemption. It would the analogue to Federal Preemption.
What is the source that says that no Muslim shall be subject to the authority of any non-Muslim?
All Sharia Law, when invoked in a non-OIC member country, must be viewed not as merely possibly different in substance, but jurisdictionally exclusive for all Muslims. One manifestation of that would be for the "voluntary" participation in Sharia courts, where no party would ever seek appeal to a non-Muslim court.

The court effectively ruled so broadly that any opposition to Sharia Preemption (supremacy) would be invalid because it is discriminatory. Forget any and all notions of the subject matter and how it might be ruled on similarly or differently, but instead isolate on the jurisdiction to rule, which was the primary, if not sole, focus of Oklahoma Question 755.
How does Mr. Rauf propose to integrate non-Muslim law with that of Sharia Law without reducing every single integration to an issue of Sharia Preemption?
If a non-Muslim court transforms itself into a Sharia Court all by itself then I guess there would not be any need for a parallel Sharia Court system? Call it integration.
Despite Mr. Rauf's assurances, Sharia Law says it applies everywhere Muslims may be. Here is the chilling concept from Reliance of the Traveler:
Areas where Muslims reside and there is a remnant of Islam’s rules – even if this is limited to marriages and what pertains to them, for example – is considered Muslim Lands. . . [i]t is clear that there is virtually no country on the face of the earth where a Muslim has an excuse to behave differently than he would in an Islamic country, whether in his commercial or other dealings. We must disabuse Muslims of that notion every chance we get. Sharia Law has no place in the U.S., as it is diametrically opposed to most of the provisions in our Constitution, particularly the Bill of Rights.

Folks, everybody: there is a remarkable movie showing now in the US, "The Wistleblower". I urge everybody to see it while it is on.
In my Old Country, the Soviet Union, I was an anti-Communist, and used to be pleasantly surprised every time there was an unusually candid opinion voiced in a Soviet newspaper, or on TV. And I admired Solzhenitsyn for speaking the full truth about Stalin's terror. Personally, Solzhenitsyn, with his bigotries and other flaws was far from perfect. Every time he tried to philosophize, or, even worse, prophesize, things went haywhire. His whole value was that of a courageous witness.
Now, after having lived in the US for 29 years, I am suddenly having a Solzhenitsyn moment again. Once again, I am shocked. Shocked by courageous, pure, undiluted truth of that movie. Wasn't Rauf also fined multiple times for being a slumlord? How could anyone endorse his construction and running of a complex public building when he can't manage apartments?
The mistake i keep making with sharia is thinking of it as singular set of laws. The "laws" are inconsistent and there are substantial differences between different schools of fiqh, countries,sects, cultures and schools of theology.

Is he claiming that sharia law does not clash with Scottish law on marriage and divorce, on children's rights, on banking and inheritance, on legal testimony and voting?
Did he think he could get away with that statement in Britain, where there are sharia courts? Most of Britain's 2,700,000 Muslims live in England, but a few of the 80+ unofficial sharia courts are in Glasgow and Edinburgh. They deal mainly, though not exclusively, with divorce, and everyone knows that sharia rulings clash with secular law.
If sharia is essentially compatible with British law, why would a separate sharia court be needed in Britain? And if it's essentially different, how can the two systems exist in parallel?
