As night-time car arsons in Berlin continue unabated, some citizens are calling for neighbourhood groups to prowl the streets looking for culprits, an idea that appears to be gaining ground.The idea for citizen patrols has gained support during the week-long spate of arson in the German capital, which have left dozens of cars, mostly expensive models, burned out.

Many people told the newspaper they were ready to join citizens’ groups to combat the attacks, because the government isn’t doing enough.
Some have suggested that neighbours begin carrying weapons and go on the hunt for perpetrators. Others have suggested a less vigilante-style response with simple unarmed neighbourhood patrols.
One 72-year-old who lives with his wife in the Berlin’s Westend district told Die Welt that residents have been debating what to do over the last few days. His idea is for a citizens’ patrol to go out for about an hour per night per night. It would alert police if it sees anything suspicious.
“Some residents here want to arm themselves,” he said. “What we need here is a kind of militia.”
Some people appear to be looking to London as a model, where many community groups lost confidence in police and formed successful vigilante groups to combat recent riots.

Berlin is not only the most "Turkish" city in Germany but also the one that is most leftist by far. These crimes are mostly not done by Turks but by radical leftists who hate other peoples achievments and cars and usually also burn the BMWs or Mercedes' of their multicultural neighbours.

Allowing people to arm themselves makes them less vulnerable to random violence and lone wolf killers. The Texas concealed handgun provision was passed because of a killer who drove his truck into a restaurant, and then calmly walked around, shooting diners. The daughter of one of the victims was an expert marksman, but had had to leave her gun in her car because it was illegal to carry a gun at the time. She ran for the legislature, and successfully pushed to enact a concealed handgun provision.
Armed citizens are able to protect themselves from attacks when they patrol the streets for crimes, ready to alert police and video criminals.
I don't think it's a good idea for citizen groups to actually try to apprehend or confront criminals, unless the criminals are actually committing violence, vandalism, or arson when encountered. Police are trained to observe the letter of the law, and in situations of near-anarchy, it is the maintenance of law that keeps a society from degenerating into gang or tribal warfare.

Citizens need to protect themselves. Regardless of the feelings of individual officers, the purpose of the Police as an organizatio is to be schills for the government.
All good points, RonaldB. But two points can be made to enhance it.
First, police level training is often available to private citizens, especially in the U.S. Police departments usually have "community policing" programs where citizens are trained to become familiar with police policies. These can be a good way to get to know your local police, although you may end up on call during disasters as a 'gofer'. Police training for lethal weapons is covered, but any real training in that area would require the citizen pursue additional options elsewhere and with his or her own money.
Second, 'vigilante' as used in the article is really a misnomer. As long as the private citizen uses force only in compliance with the law he or she is not a vigilante.
Please be cognizant of the law of unintended consequences. Local groups of infidels acting as neighborhood auxiliaries to protect their property seems innocuous enough, but it will surely offer legitimacy to - and eventually help institutionalize - the Muslim groups "protecting" their own neighborhoods and enforcing Sharia-compliance on the residents.

But it has been established that similar behavior in France is primarily the work of moslem "youths". Should you not suspect at least some involvement of moslem "youths" in Germany? When the citizen patrols apprehend some of them it will probably turn out to be a mix of both.
