The Islamic supremacist propaganda machine cranks out another "Islamophobia" report

Fear, Inc.: The Roots of the Islamophobia Network in America,” from the Center for American Progress is just the latest in an ever-lengthening string of markedly similar “exposés” of so-called “Islamophobes.” Each purports to show that the anti-Sharia movement in America is a sinister cabal of well-funded, dishonest hacks stirring up hate against innocent Muslims in order to profit from it. Each has been highly distorted and markedly unfair, twisting the facts and cooking the data in order not to enlighten but to manipulate, not to educate but to propagandize.

Just in recent months there have been two other reports, both almost identical in substance to “Fear, Inc.”: the far-Left Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Jihad Against Islam” and the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations’ “Same Hate, New Target: Islamophobia and Its Impact in the United States.” Each of these is lavishly produced, printed on glossy paper and full of colorful illustrations. With the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the midst of a full-scale, years-long campaign at the United Nations to compel the West to criminalize any honest discussion of how Islamic jihadists use the texts and teachings of Islam to recruit and motivate terrorists, it would be useful to know who is funding these slickly produced reports; but, true to form, the mainstream media instead glosses over the radical and genuinely sinister ties of the organizations that produced them, and repeats their agitprop as if it were fact.

But it isn’t. In what follows I must, for reasons of time, limit myself largely to responding to the report’s attacks on me; however, the “Fear, Inc.” attacks on my colleagues and others doing similar work are no more substantive or less manipulative and propagandistic.

The misinformation starts on the first page, when the “Fear, Inc.” authors call me “one of the anti-Muslim misinformation scholars we profile in this report.” The term “anti-Muslim” is immediate evidence of the manipulative, propagandistic nature of this report: my work, and the work of the other scholars and activists demonized in “Fear, Inc.,” has never been against Muslims in the aggregate or any people as such, but rather against an ideology that denies the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of all people. In fact, years ago at Jihad Watch I had an exchange with an English convert to Islam. I said: “I would like nothing better than a flowering, a renaissance, in the Muslim world, including full equality of rights for women and non-Muslims in Islamic societies: freedom of conscience, equality in laws regarding legal testimony, equal employment opportunities, etc.” Is all that “anti-Muslim”? My correspondent thought so. He responded: “So, you would like to see us ditch much of our religion and, thereby, become non-Muslims.”

In other words, he saw a call for equality of rights for women and non-Muslims in Islamic societies, including freedom of conscience, equality in laws regarding legal testimony, and equal employment opportunities, as a challenge to his religion. To the extent that they are, these facts have to be confronted by both Muslims and non-Muslims. But it is not “anti-Muslim” to wish freedom of conscience and equality of rights on the Islamic world -- quite the contrary.

The report also contains a – by now obligatory – lengthy excursus on Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik: “While these bloggers and pundits were not responsible for Breivik’s deadly attacks, their writings on Islam and multiculturalism appear to have helped create a world view, held by this lone Norwegian gunman, that sees Islam as at war with the West and the West needing to be defended.” While granting that we are not responsible for Breivik’s acts, the report also takes pains to point out that “Robert Spencer and his blog were cited 162 times in the nearly 1,500-page manifesto of Anders Breivik, the confessed Norway terrorist who claimed responsibility for killing 76 people, mostly youths.” Not surprisingly, it doesn’t mention that I have never sanctioned or justified violence, or that Breivik was plotting violence in the 1990s, before I had published anything about Islam, or that he complained that I was not recommending violence, or that he recommended making common cause with jihadists, which I would never do – indicating that his “manifesto” is actually ideologically incoherent, and not a legitimate counter-jihad document at all. These facts are not mentioned in “Fear, Inc.,” because they would interfere with its propagandistic agenda.

As for the claim that Breivik committed his murders because of the worldview we had created that “sees Islam at war with the West,” “Fear, Inc.” is also silent about the many Muslims who have declared that they are indeed at war with the West, in the name of Islam. Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said: “Have no doubt... Allah willing, Islam will conquer what? It will conquer all the mountain tops of the world.” CAIR cofounder and longtime Board chairman Omar Ahmad said in 1998: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.” (He now denies saying this, but the original reporter sticks by her story.) The prominent American Muslim leader Siraj Wahhaj said in 2002: “If only Muslims were clever politically, they could take over the United States and replace its constitutional government with a caliphate.” The most influential Islamic cleric in the world today, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, has said: “Islam will return to Europe as a conqueror and victor, after being expelled from it twice.”

True to form for these “Islamophobia” reports, “Fear, Inc.” ignores such statements and many others like them, attempting to create the impression that the only ones responsible for the idea that Islam is “at war with the West” are the “Islamophobes.”

Without offering any substantive refutation, “Fear, Inc.” dismisses as “inaccurate and perverse” my statement that Islam is “the only religion in the world that has a developed doctrine, theology and legal system that mandates violence against unbelievers and mandates that Muslims must wage war in order to establish the hegemony of the Islamic social order all over the world.” What is “inaccurate and perverse” is the report’s denial of this, since it is a matter of objective verification that all the mainstream Islamic sects and schools of Islamic jurisprudence do indeed teach that the Islamic umma must wage war against unbelievers and subjugate them under the rule of Islamic law. The report does not and cannot produce any evidence that Islam does not contain sects and schools that teach this.

Most of what “Fear, Inc.” says about me is just name-calling, but it makes an attempt at substance with this: “Spencer’s views on Islam—and his credibility in discussing Islam at all—are challenged by scholars at his own alma mater. He has ‘no academic training in Islamic studies whatsoever,’ according to Islamic scholar Carl W. Ernst, Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies and Director of the Carolina Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Instead, Professor Ernst says Spencer selectively uses textual, religious evidence to mainstream the claim that ‘Islam is not a religion of peace.’ Indeed, Spencer gives misplaced credence to the ‘Sharia threat’ argument that is then mainstreamed by the Islamophobia network.”

Ernst’s dismissal of my work on the basis of my having “no academic training in Islamic studies whatsoever,” besides being false, is completely void of substance: the determination of whether or not one’s work is accurate is not decided by the number of one’s degrees, but by the nature of the work itself. What’s more, Ernst’s claim is especially laughable given the ideological dominance of the far-Left Middle East Studies Association (MESA) among academics in this field today, such that dissenting voices are seldom, if ever, heard. Ernst’s own objectivity, moreover, is in severe doubt after he flew to Tehran in December 2008 to accept an award from Iran’s anti-Semitic, genocide-minded Islamic supremacist President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Another compromised authority that “Fear, Inc.” cites is Charles Johnson, the “Little Green Footballs” blogger who several years ago moved from the right to the hard Left, betraying his former friends and posting vicious and arguably libelous false charges about them. For “Fear, Inc.,” Johnson’s blog is “popular” and “right-leaning,” when in fact it is no longer either one.

“Fear, Inc.” likewise trumpets the 2004 Amman Message as a “Sharia-based condemnation of violence from the world’s leading Islamic authorities.” The report deceptively fails to mention, however, that the Amman Message forbids Muslim-on-Muslim violence based on takfir, or declarations by one Muslim group that another is apostate. The Amman Message’s three points, mentioned in “Fear, Inc.,” do not address violence or non-violent jihad activity against non-Muslims at all, and the Amman Message’s website actually endorses an undefined “legitimate jihad.”

That is indicative of the dishonesty and one-sidedness of this report. The chief indication of that dishonesty is the wildly misleading presentation of financial data – making the sums involved appear much greater than they actually were by lumping together donations given to disparate organizations over a period of many years. When examined closely, the sums involved are actually far lower than those regularly received by Leftist and Islamic supremacist groups such as the ones that have produced the recent “Islamophobia” reports. Hamas-linked CAIR just announced today that it had almost reached its goal of raising $650,000 during Ramadan. I have never received that kind of support for Jihad Watch during any comparable period of time.

An honest presentation about “Islamophobia” would address the American people’s reasonable concern about the continuing series of violent acts committed by Muslims in the name of Islam, and outline ways in which the Muslim community could lessen suspicion against Muslims by cooperating fully and honestly with law enforcement anti-terror activities. But instead, “Fear, Inc.” is designed to portray Muslims as victims and demonize all those who stand in the way of the misogynistic and unjust agenda of the Islamic jihad, whether advanced by violent or non-violent means. As such, it is simply an instrument of that jihad.

UPDATE: Hard-Left pseudo-journalist propagandist Michelle Boorstein of the Washington Post writes a predictably shoddy and biased piece about the report here. It contains absolutely none of the substantive refutation that I posted above, although it links to this point on my name, without alerting readers to the fact that the link on my name would take them to my response to the report. Also, earlier today I sent Boorstein this:

The $42 million figure is wildly misleading. It is an aggregate amount covering many years and many organizations. When are you going to cover the much more substantial funding of hate groups such as Hamas-linked CAIR, the SPLC, etc.?

This is a witch hunt designed to smear and discredit all who dare to speak out against Islamic Sharia-inspired misogyny, denial of the freedom of conscience, etc. Just today I have a story at Jihad Watch about a Muslim apostate whose life was threatened by Islamic supremacists in Norway. Why do you ignore the Westward spread of such Sharia-based thuggery and demonize those who stand for the human rights of such people?

She rendered that as: "Robert Spencer, another subject of the report, said the financial picture it gives is misleading because it lumps together various organizations over time."

Nor does Boorstein's piece contain any of the substantive points that David Horowitz raises here or Pamela Geller here. Boorstein "reports" the already wildly misleading figure of $42 million as "about $50 million."

She has served her masters well, although she does inadvertently reveal the report's true anti-free speech goal of defaming and discrediting freedom fighters: "'This isn’t playing games. We want to end Islamophobia. If we want to do that, we have to identify motivators of this hate industry, marginalize them and demand they be held accountable,' Shakir said." That's Faiz Shakir, one of the authors of the report and a Center for American Progress Vice President.

Similarly, there is no doubt that the climate of Naziphobia whipped up by bigots such as Winston Churchill, quoting passages from Mein Kampf out of context, was the major cause of the Blitzkrieg attacks on Poland and France.

Robert,

It's only going to get worse. They've wanted to crucify you for years and now Breviek has given them the tools. My guess is that the invitations to speak at police, military and intelligence seminars will dry up altogether. You'll be more on the outside-looking-in than ever before. But there are times when being so is the ONLY destination for a true man of integrity.

Sleep well at night, Fearless Leader. Hell or high-water, you've never compromised your integrity.

Islam Is Not Part of Our Civilization

Right Side News 26 August 2011
By Bill Warner

Obama said at the latest White House Iftar dinner:

Like so many faiths, Islam has always been part of our American family, and Muslim Americans have long contributed to the strength and character of our country, in all walks of life.

These words have no basis in fact. Islam is not part of our civilization because its foundational principles are opposite to ours. Our civilization is built on the foundation of critical thought (how we think) and the Golden Rule (ethics). Islam is built on submission (authoritative thought) and ethical dualism

... twisting the facts and cooking the data in order not to enlighten but to manipulate, not to educate but to propagandize.

Agitprop, as the Commies termed it. But, even more important may be somnoprop, a form of opinion programming that works primarily through elision. It also uses conflation, whereby placing a protected or favored entity with others that are receive the same status. For example, Prez Dubya's declaration of Islam as one of the world's great religions, a literally unbelievable statement that is possible only if you take the word great to strictly confer the concept of something big.

Somnoprop is electronic media's completion of agitprop.

*** 33:21 ***

Always watch for the somnoprop. It's new, it's hot and now in wide use. Back in the heyday of agitprop, the Russian peasants were flooded with misinformation and almost nobody believes it.

Now we are in the heyday of somnoprop, we're awash in the stuff and almost everybody believes it. This is the considerable power of modern opinion programming, coming to a television or high school curriculum near you.

It is time to change the meme regarding the meaning of Islamophobia. To charges of being islamophobic deny this as -

a) you have no irrational fear of the islamic ideology being subject to critical analysis and debate;

b) the islamophobes are the votaries/adherents of the islamic ideology itself and their wilful dhimmi's who are enacting laws to prevent critical analysis - an irrational response to objective debate.

c) the islamophobes are the votaries/adherents of the islamic ideology who slaughter innocents and destroy innocents property and religious buildings in lands distant to where a perceived insult has occurred. An absolutely irrational response to criticism and subjective offense.

Remember, repeat something enough times and it becomes true. It's our time to frame this debate!

Do Islam-cringing detractors think receiving death threats is an added perk to the "profits"?

How about the luxury of wearing bullet proof vests, requiring body guards, and living on a military base for protection from Islamist, as Geert Wilders does? Yes, being counter-jihad sounds like a real racket--not.

There is something uniquely disgusting about these detractors who, in their apparent desperation to seize some sort of moral high ground, would insinuate that some people, far braver then they could ever be, would be risking their lives daily only for "profit," and a fairly miniscule one at that, by all indications.

The most damning evidence that Islam is an evil hegemonic system does not come from Spencer, but from the Quran itself, with a little help from Hadith...Writers like those of Fear inc...are evoking and manifesting evil...It would be bad enough if Allah was telling these people to project evil, but he is not, they are doing it all on their own...The indwelling gods of morals and ethics have taken a long vacation and are no longer available...The result is moral and social decay and spiritual bankruptcy...Snakes and some frogs also spit venom, but even they don't write evil hit pieces on anyone...Snakes and frogs have more honor that all the Fear inc's put together...So, thumbs up to those snakes and frogs, I would trust them way before I would trust Ernst, CJ, or Fear inc...I never met a frog I didn't like, and no frog ever told me a lie...

I once asked a frog what he thought about Islam...he said, 'It's evil man, stay away from it'...I took his advice...I always take the advice of any frog that cares to give it...I still have that frog around here someplace...If I can find it I would be happy to loan it to Fear inc...They could learn a lot from that frog...

Ironically, “Fear Inc.” would actually be a pretty fitting moniker to attach to Islam itself: Islam exhorts Muslims to terrorize non-Muslims, and adds a promise that Allah will pick up the tab for associated expenses.

Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah, shall be repaid unto you, and ye shall not be treated unjustly.

Let us fight the federal funding of the Ground Zero Mosk, by watching this alert, and signing the petition against federal funding, for a pile of devious, degenerate thugs, plain criminals who want to steal money from us, America!

From Wikipedia -

The Center for American Progress is classified as a 501(c)(3) organization under U.S. Internal Revenue Code. The institute receives approximately $25 million per year in funding from a variety of sources, including individuals, foundations, and corporations, but it declines to release any information on the sources of its funding. No funders are listed on its website or in its Annual Report. From 2003 to 2007, the center received about $15 million in grants from 58 foundations. Major individual donors include George Soros, Peter Lewis, Steve Bing, and Herb and Marion Sandler. The Center receives undisclosed sums from corporate donors.

Talk about projection, these Islamist-useful idiots are making a pretty good dime bashing far braver and smarter people then they. Wait, maybe they're not as stupid as they seem..., but still treasonous and disgusting.

Go anti-counter jihad-ists, go tell those Islamists they merely can prove us all wrong by simply dropping a few regional "traditions" like stoning, FGM, apostate killing, discriminatory sharia laws, polygamy, forced-veiling, etc. Let us know how that works out for you.

We should counter the Fear Inc report. With a report of our own. We'll call it: The Roots of "Islamogullibility" network or, "How I Became Stupid and Learned To Be a Dhimmi"

Patriots, I may have coined a new phrase. We're not Islamophobic. They're Islamogullible!

ISLAM AND COMMUNISM

In the Age of Barack Obama we need to overcome our inordinate fear of Islam like we needed to overcome our inordinate fear of Communism during the Carter years. It's the same willful leftwing blindness to an implacable totalitarian enemy hell bent on our destruction and world rule

I feel like a broken record here but yet again, for the umpteenth time, is demonstrated that Islam is NOT, I repeat NOT, the greatest problem of modern times but rather ignorance of Islam is (Islam is "merely" the second greatest problem).

Particular in extra doses of ignorance is the modern Western Left, which is so replete with antipathy towards conservatives in the West that it has, stupefyingly, alligned with an ideology in Islam which would put an end to virtually every modern liberal ideal if only it could. And yes, many on the Right can hardly be more exonerated than all those many fools on the Left, George
Bush and Rick Perry sadly among the guilty here (which, to put it mildly, doesn't speak well of Texas).

So sad that the greatest enemy of liberty is not a true enemy of liberty, in this case Islam, but rather ignorance of where the true enemy of liberty lies by those who are already free. A more tragic tale would be hard to tell.

Easy to counter the Bullshit lies from these kinds of reports by stating that all those like Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller must have personal bodyguards 24/7/365 due to Threats from Islamists and their apologists. The only ones who are not swayed are those in collusion or Islamists themselves... ie lost causes.

I agree with one commentor that we need to have our own list of those responsible for peddling hatred by naming groups like CAIR, ISNA, SPLC and various other groups by their attacks against freedom of speech and various other things that they do. We should also have a big board that displays the ties of those individuals.

CAIR Outraged “Tolerance” For “Muslim Extremists” Hasn’t Grown…

http://weaselzippers.us/2011/08/26/cair-outraged-tolerance-for-muslim-extremists-hasnt-grown/

America less tolerant of Islamic terrorism:

The survey found in 2008 that when asked if “A Muslim clergyman who preaches hatred of the United States” should be able to speak publicly, 41 percent of Americans said yes. The percentage remained unchanged in the 2010 survey. When asked if a Muslim extremist should be able to teach, 29 percent of Americans said yes in 2008 and 32 percent said yes in 2010.

You couldn't make it up.

dear wellington,

"I feel like a broken record here but yet again, for the umpteenth time, is demonstrated that Islam is NOT, I repeat NOT, the greatest problem of modern times but rather ignorance of Islam is"

like you, i feel like a broken record at times.
i wholeheartedly agree with your statement, but i view it from a different perspective.

the *ignorance* of the west about islam, coupled with the pc mc *insistance* on remaining ignorant, has led to some suicidal decisions on high levels which have caused incalculable losses and sufferings:

- the insistance to attach musloid soldiers to nato and u.s. fighting units to gain hearts and minds...(nothing learnt from the fort hood massacre)
- putting those who wish to destroy us in positions of high security where they can actually carry out the commands from the kkkoran 9;111, 8;12

when someone is ignorant, obviously he does not know what he does not know, and thus, he would not take the time or effort to take protective and preventative steps from this accursed cult.

and this is where i feel like a broken record:
-why do we keep talking about islam instead of taking proactive steps to make the followers / potential jihadis irrelevant
-we KNOW that they wish to destroy us. why are we not in an automatic 'us vs them' mode, because then we would stoop to their level?....does anyone think that the families of victims of musloid jihad, are REALLY comforted by this suicidally/stupid high road ?
- why don't we go after the source of the problem (the imam and the mosques) with a vengence? with a determination that words of sedition spoken by any musloid will be severely punished

i would much rather be safe than sorry.
i would much rather listen to a classical concert than read/hear about yet *ANOTHER* lethal musloid attack....

god i am so sick of this heinous cult...
and imho it is only with FORCE and i might add disproportionate force to any muslime slight towards the west that we may prevail.

i know that you advocate educating as the solution.
it is extremely slow and by the time enough people GET IT, it may be too late

Well, phoenix, there's virtually nothing as deadly as ignorance. And, as you indicated in your last sentence, we may be running out of time. I still think, though, that the forces that comprise the "Great Push" against Islam's malevolent, liberty-crushing (and also stupid) designs will win out in the end, but, as I've written before, and with proper attribution to the Great Man, Winston Churchill, who opined along these lines when referencing America, Western Civilization will exhaust every option before exercising the right one.

Interesting and instructive how barbaric, totalitarian forces can so easily take an early lead against democratically aligned polities and societies. Those who despair easily rarely take note of this.

Douglas MacArthur noted this proclivity about free societies not long after he was ordered by FDR to leave Corregidor for Australia in early 1942. But the General went on to note that the longer a struggle went on between the forces of freedom and anti-freedom, the more flexible and original were those who were free and thus the far more likely were they to prevail in the long run. Not a guarantee, as he noted, but a likelihood. The course of WWII bears him out quite well I would argue. So does the Cold War. And now we're in a kind of Round Three. Let's hope the General's prognostication will prove a winner again.

By the same token, if we were to blame all the jihad violence to the NYT for sticking up for Islam - or any other media -, by golly it would the be the same as blaming Robert Spencer for the crazy lunatic Anders Breivik.

The MSM is simply pathetic!

Hey, we'll even follow Robert along his Via Dolorosa, and will consider it an honor to help shoulder his cross. (BTW, I still treasure my Limited Edition statue of Spencer the Great Leader.)

Wellington, There's one thing that's worse, being aware and not doing anything about it.

Good work! Its antithesis is Islamorealist.

Agreed, Domenick. It's worse. Virtually as deadly as ignorance (which was my point to the phoenix) but, yes, even worse ethically speaking. But then there's the phenomenon of willful ignorance, which is that gray area between true ignorance and awareness.

I don't mean to belabor the point. I only mean to be as accurate as possible. One thing's for sure and that is that there are a hell of lot of spineless and/or clueless (I know you're not suppose to use "and/or" anymore but I think this relatively new grammatical rule is silly, rather like the times in which we live) people living in the West right now. Such folks tend to many errors, not the least of them being ad nauseam excuses respecting why Islam is not nearly as bad as those in the know know it is.

To Mr. Spencer:

I read portions of the Fear, Inc. document. If you analyze it carefully, you will find that nearly all of the attacks on you are based upon adjectives, speculations, and opinions you have formulated and expressed.

If you had adopted (early on) my suggested strategy (sorry that I did not suggest it when JihadWatch started, but it may not be too late to switch) of limiting yourself to relentlessly exposing the most devastating facts (scriptural, historical, political, and social facts), anticipating and pre-emptively responding to all possible defenses of the Islam supporters, and completely AVOIDING ALL SARCASM, ADJECTIVES, OPINIONS, and SPECULATIONS, then you would probably have been almost invulnerable to attack.

What is your plan for the tenth anniversary of 9/11?

You talkin' 'bout "STOOPIDSLAM" there Dom?..Don't acknowledge 'slame by repeating it..Like the old Star Trek episode at the OK Corral, where Spock does his "mind-meld" to Kirk and McCoy..Yes the stupid ideology (and the bullets, bombs, rockets, taqqiiya etc. etcetera) exist, but not when describing it as such as a descriptor..As in "Nihslamists are bent on our own destruction"..

All the best Dom..DSC!

danio's..Lousy food. Chef wears a mask.

DP111, Bill Warner is awesome. He has put together a compilation titled "Sharia Law for Non-Muslims" that everyone should download because it's the best presentation of what sharia really contains and why it absolutely must be kept out of our legal system. I think part of the reason for the frantic emphasis on this "anti-Islamophobia" propaganda blitz is their fear that they are losing their campaign to inject sharia into our legal system. That will be a huge defeat for them.

And thanks to APF for describing the somnoprop phenomenon. I think it is working because so many Americans don't want to be bothered to learn the truth about Islam, feel it doesn't really affect them now, unlike the Soviet peasants who knew by whom they were being starved. But phoenix and Wellington are right: When a catastrophe merely threatens, most people retreat into denial and refuse to make the effort to understand and confront the danger. But when the disaster strikes, it is to those who have made that effort and who know what to do that they turn. That is going to be us, because these smooth-talking savages do not intend for this to remain a "stealth" jihad forever.

A which point they may find that the giant is not dead but still merely sleeping.

Uh, Robert's allready been doing just that. So has Fjordman. So has Pam. So has the Baron at GOV. So has Marisol. So has Dymphna. So has Geert. So has Elisabeth. So has Jussi. So has Pat.So has Allen. C'mon Arthur..Are you trying to tell Robert to shut up?..Try it yourself first..k?

Arthur,

I rather enjoy Mr. Spencer’s sarcasm, adjectives, opinions, and speculations. Here is a better suggestion. Get your own blog and do it your way. People who tell others how to do a job they can’t or won’t do really piss me off. In this particular example, ‘people’ would be you.

The Islamic supremacist propaganda machine cranks out another "Islamophobia" report
............................

Flipping around cable news channels, I ran across a segment on Keith Olbermann's new show earlier this evening that I'm sure concerned this meretricious report. He had some oily representative from some Muslim apologist group—I didn't catch his name of the group's—but they were holding forth on the idea that the only way anyone would oppose Shari'ah was if they were "being paid", then they gratuitously insulted Pamela Geller and ended the segment.

Well—we've been accused of worse lately—but if someone believes that only the mercenary oppose the horror of Shari'ah, what does that *say for them*?

Anyone who has "followed the money" trail knows the funding comes primarily from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States. When you tank up at the pump, just know that you are subsidizing the Jihad against the West (and the rest).

Reply to butterfly:

I also greatly enjoy Mr. Spencer's sarcasm, adjectives, and opinions, most of which I agree with wholeheartedly. My point is that his approach of attacking everybody (including nearly all media) decreases his effectiveness and makes him look crazy. Islam is a very powerful force, and it causes nearly every person in a prominent position anywhere in the world to bend to its dictates. If I came out and started speaking my mind, based upon my background and circumstances, I would probably be killed within a matter of weeks. Attacking Islam publicly can only be done safely by people who make it their full-time mission.

Nearly all of the media are spineless, and most are dishonest, on the subject of Islam. But we must figure out a way to work with them. I had posted suggestions along with a detailed analysis last year as to how this could be done, but my suggestions were ignored. I will try again this year.

I think some of the newer Islam exposers (e.g. David Wood, and the guy who debated on Bloomberg TV whose name I don't recall) might become more effective than Mr. Spencer in trying to defeat Islamic expansion, even though we are all immeasurably indebted to Mr. Spencer for getting the facts out early to those who had a genuine interest in finding out about them.

Now the challenge is to get the facts out to the vast majority who don't want to make an effort to learn the facts until they personally suffer some consequences. It is much easier for such people to remain in the false fog of "can't we all respect each other as equals," an idea created by errors in thinking by the American founding fathers almost 240 years ago.

I thank lilredbird (above) for the reference to Bill Warner's work, which I agree is truly outstanding.

Here is a quote from his website, which shows that he has realized the importance of the strategy I am suggesting:

Our work stands on its own. The only person that matters in discussing Islam is not the "expert" but Mohammed. Every paragraph of our books is referenced to what Mohammed did and said (his Sunna). Every paragraph can be verified by the use of the reference numbers. Our books are fact-based knowledge, not opinion. Mohammed is our expert. We quote him in every paragraph.

Our goal is to educate the world about Mohammed, his political doctrine and his god, Allah.

"...a world view that sees Islam as at war with the West and the West needing to be defended."

Now where does this world view come from?

'I have been commanded to wage war on all mankind until the people say there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his profit'.

To blame resistance to this perpetual warfare on the victim is perverse. We are the victims of jihad, not the other way around.

"Professor" Ernst’s own objectivity is not only in doubt. Lets call him a whore, just like Johnny Esposito and so many paid propagandists of the Mesa Nostra, who are either closet 'reverts' or simply in it for the money. These people are guilty of high treason.

Reply to St. Patrick:

No I am not at all suggesting that Mr. Spencer should shut up. I have made numerous prior posts in which I have encouraged precisely the opposite.

I think what Mr. Spencer should do, rather than going on talk shows and doing presentations in government agencies or hotels, is to push the devastating facts upon people in places where they will not be able to tolerate them, e.g. Dearborn, Michigan, universities and cities with large Muslim populations, etc. This can be done by attempting to print ads and notices stating the devastating facts. Such conduct will bring out Islamic insanity, and will give Mr. Spencer a gigantic amount of free support. (Remember the Wikileaks guy, the mustachioed pastor, etc.) He can collect funds for his effort from churches and other institutions that oppose Islam.

Mr.Spencer,
I'm sorry you are stuck dealing with the willingly blind and self-righteous fanatics .It can't be easy.
Thank you for being a reporter, voice and moral figurehead for those that still care about their country and citizens.

IF being a representative for us in this nightmare paid so well, you wouldn't have the job.A politician, media talking head or business god would have shoved you out of the way to soak up the $.

Everyone that has an ounce of common sense knows the attempt to link you to Brievik is a snow job. As with grade school kids, if they have no valid debate they resort to name calling and personal attacks. The MSM should stick with stories that they can comprehend like - Kim Kardashian.

Stand tall and be proud anti - jihadist. You are what Americans SHOULD be.

No Sharia
No violence
No anti - semitism
No slavery
No censorship
No terrorism
No more mosques
No more lies
No racism
No religious intolerance
No illegal immigrants
No burka

Get this piece of nonsense from the report:

Undeterred, the Islamophobia network’s description of Sharia is spread based on a sophisticated misinformation campaign designed to draw donations to the right-wing foundations, think tanks, grass roots organizations, and conservative Christian fundamentalist groups, to drum up political campaign contributions and votes for radical right-wing politicians, and to boost the political power of right-wing media organizations that promote such hate and fear.

I'm a Hong Kong-based Aussie who's always voted Labor (not sure if I still could), thought of myself as a bit of a "leftie" over the years, though have drifted more conservative over the years; yet am certainly not a "radical right" zealot.
My own concern about Islam and Sharia has come, first, from reading the core texts (Koran, Hadith, Sira, Umdat al-Salik). Only then did I start reading various blogs and learn more. I've come to my own conclusion about the dangers of Islam and Sharia. These concerns have nothing to do with an alleged "misinformation campaign" of an alleged "Islamophobia network". I've been able to check the statements made on this and other blogs, and often have: I don't just take their word for it.
Regarding Spencer, he makes a proud claim that noone has been able to show that any statement about Islam he has made in his books and many posts is factually incorrect. In my experience of "fact checking" him, that's correct. So there's no "misinformation" happening, let along a "campaign" of misinformation.
I have never been approached by any of the owners of any of the mentioned blogs for any form of funding whatsover, so if they're "designed to draw donations", they're doing an awfully bad job of it.
More likely is this: that they are patriots, that they are modern-day liberals, true liberals in the sense of believing in liberty and freedom, the rights of women, minorities, of freedom of speech and conscience. That is, that they are concerned for the attack on these, on western enlightenment, that Islamism represents.
For these people, the authors of "Fear Inc", to characterise those of us concerned about Islam as being some sort of dupes of a "misinformation campaign" is nothing short of a calumny. Shame on them; they are dupes themselves, duped by the crock of a "religion of peace" -- a belief which Sam Harris, very much not a member of the "radical right" has characterised as "delusional".
It's not counter-jihad bloggers who are creating Islamophobia. Muslims are doing a fine job of it themselves...

Islamophobia, a term I detest, hasn't come from nowhere.

It is the natural build up of emotional and rational thought which has ensued post 9/11 as observers witness not one jot of real remorse, rather a hysterical ratcheting of false accusations and a constant cicada cackle for more rights.

That this has now become the international modus operandi wherever Muslims gather in their quest for yet more power within the Dar el Harb is so obvious and crude, yet is completely airbrushed from any official discourse or MSM narrative.

If even the Army reveals that it celebrates its its insane kumbaya inclusivity to the extent of recruiting personnel who would turn on fellow soldiers in murderous killing sprees we see how far this propaganda has infiltrated governance and the useful idiots who go along with this ploy.

When Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a Muslim US Army psychiatrist killed 13 fellow US military personnel at Fort Hood and the head of the armed forces places diversity over the lives of his men that’s the warning that all is not well.

Here’s what he said and should send a shudder through every soldier or, for that matter, every American citizen……….

“Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.”

So there you have it an American Military leader more interested in politically correct mumbo jumbo that actually doing what he’s employed to do, namely protecting the US from it’s enemy.

Unfortunately he was not only incapable of protecting citizens but has the distinction of being unable to protect his very own people. That, in the cold light of day is so boggling that it defies any logic.

But back to the term ‘enemy’.

According to Casey and the myriad of useful idiots down that pyramid of power, there is no ‘enemy’, after all Islam is a religion of peace and we’d better believe it. Why, even the evil, arch neocon GWB told us so.

Following that strand of thought, hunkering down against this amorphous unthreatening threat is as futile as battling the invisible man, or to be precise a whole army of them.

That Arab oil money and the power it confers sure has greased a few paths and palms

May as well, if we are to believe Casey, throw in the towel now. Game over. We surrendered and lost not because they won but because we opened those gates and in they came, pouring in unopposed to take the spoils of 2000 years of Western civilisation.

And that’s how it ends. Not with a bang. Not so much a whimper even, but with the welcome mat and a pot of halal coffee on the stove.

Interesting review on Ernst' book "Following Muhammad: Rethinking Islam in the Contemporary World (Islamic Civilization and Muslim Network)"

Defender of the Faith, November 18, 2008
By Kurt J. Acker "bookmuncher" (New York City)

In the preface, Carl Ernst denies that he is defending Islam. No, he is merely trying to present Muslims as 3-dimensional human beings. That seems a valid approach, but in practice, it means emphasizing the good and enlightened side of Islam and either omitting the dark side entirely, or explaining it away. He speaks for those who believe that "open-minded" people will almost never criticize things that are foreign, but only elements of their own culture. And in that "multi-cultural" frame of mind, he sets out to persuade his readers that Islam is a lot less threatening, a lot more pluralistic, and a lot more freedom-loving and open-minded than recent events and lots of commentary seem to suggest.

Who would deny the attractions of this viewpoint? Certainly not me. A typical American agnostic, who holds very few truths to be self-evident, I have traveled in several Islamic countries, known dozens of Muslims, eaten dinner in a least half a dozen Muslim homes. My experiences have been uniformly pleasant and friendly. Of course, no more than any other intelligent person would I accept for a split second Mohammad's pretense of speaking for god!! But I would certainly be open to the idea of Islam as a decent "belief-system", which might by worthy of a certain limited kind of appreciation.....

....Ernst seems to have a conditioned reflex to defend Islamic practices, no matter how appalling they are, by finding something in the West to which a strained comparison can be made. Iran, he tells us, has "an official state religion, which is Shi'a Islam, and religious authority is vested in a Guardian Council of judges having veto power over legislation." One feels certain that this is not how Carl Ernst would have designed Iran's government, if anyone had consulted him. Nevertheless, he must defend it. "In practice," he says, "... Iran can be compared to ...Israel in terms of religion as a decisive factor." Of course, the comparison is ridiculous because Israel has no council of rabbis who can veto legislation - not an insignificant difference, but a quantum leap.

Ernst's discussion of the key doctrine of Jihad is inadequate and lacks credibility. He does not deny that "jihad" has been applied to "military struggle against enemies of the faith", but insists that the "primary meaning" is "struggle against one's baser instincts", or "struggle for truth." Anyone who wants to "struggle for the truth" of this important issue cannot do better than to read the Koran, which is replete with bloodthirsty rantings. Most authorities that I have encountered frankly admit that "jihad" means waging war against infidels for the purpose of enlarging the House of Islam. If Ernst wants to persuade intelligent readers otherwise, he will need to take far more than 2 pages in the effort....

http://www.amazon.com/Following-Muhammad-Rethinking-Contemporary-Civilization/product-reviews/0807828378/ref=cm_rdphist_2?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addTwoStar

This reviewer makes one error I think:

He wrote: "I will provide one more example of the double standards that undermine the credibility of Professor Ernst's work. With all the talk about European colonialism, which was brief and relatively benign, one might have expected at least some mention of the centuries of war waged by Muslims against their neighbors, as well as Muslim treatment of dhimmi, the term for Christians and Jews living under their control....."

Granted, "one might have expected at least some mention of the centuries of war wage by Muslims" is valid. That European colonialism was brief and relatively benign is open to challenge.

The SPLC publishes a report supposedly geared to keep Law Enforcement Officers up to date on what is going on in far right "hate" groups in the US. This magazine is called "The Intelligence Report" and lists all the bad things that far right groups like "Jihad Watch" do. Besides Robert Spencer and others like him (Pam Geller) it lists other far right hate groups and individuals (Chuck Norris). Supposedly LEO's are supposed to keep their eyes on these types of bad guys (always listed with Neo-Nazi's and KKK members) because they are going to carry out attacks on innocent Muslims in the US. This magazine has very little to do with "Intelligence" and much more to do with spreading the liberal philosophy into the FBI, ATL, DEA, and other state and local law enforcement agencies. It prints half truths, no truths and outright lies. No LEO's should pay much attention to it. I have followed its rantings for the last few years and can tell you as a retired LEO it is a worthless piece of trash and is good only for file 13. Until Chuck Norris blows up the Oklahoma state house, I would urge all LEO's to throw it out and do your own research.

From post above...Neo-Nazi's and KKK members) because they are going to carry out attacks on innocent Muslims in the US.

Well, those innocent Mahoundians do need to be protected, all three of them...Their names are with held for security purposes...The rest of them are pretty much obligated to jihad as a duty...Of course not all Mahoundians are violent so their jihad takes different forms...but it is still jihad...For the victim of jihad there is no such thing as innocent jihad...But 'One mans hero is another mans villain'...Jihad is demanded and encouraged by Allah, who rewards for a good jihad job...
Of course we are not supposed to know this damning information...it might cause some innocent Mahoundian to get attacked, or his feelings hurt...They must be protected from hurt feelings, evidence has shown that Mahoundians do not react well to hurt feelings, so it has to be avoided by protecting them from it...It's better to keep Tim McVeigh under surveillance, even if he is dead...You never know, they may catch some of those faaarrr right Tea Party lunatics and anti-jihadists worshipping there...It's easier to spot people with a Ron Paul bumper sticker...Now there's a shady group that should be watched...Far more dangerous than innocent Mahoundians...

Arthur, everyone has his or her own approach and style. Unless or until, one of the authors of this report, Wajahat Ali, Eli Clifton, Matthew Duss, Lee Fang, Scott Keyes or Faiz Shakir - whoever among them is the most knowledgeable - is willing to go one on one (in an objective and exhaustive televised or radio debate format) with Spencer, Pipes or Emerson, why should anyone give/grant them or their report any credibility?

Fear, Inc. wrote: "The terrorist attacks on 9/11 alone did not drive Americans’ perceptions of Muslims and Islam. President George W. Bush reflected the general opinion of the American public at the time when he went to great lengths to make clear that Islam and Muslims are not the enemy. Speaking to a roundtable of Arab and Muslim American leaders at the Afghanistan embassy in 2002, for example, President Bush said, “All Americans must recognize that the face of terror is not the true faith—face of Islam. Islam is a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world. It’s a faith that has made brothers and sisters of every race. It’s a faith based upon love, not hate.”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is why I worry about at least two of the top tier Republican candidates, Perry and Romney. How will these two be any different from George W. Bush?

This "report" is so dumb as to appear suspicious to even someone who knows nothing of Islam. It gives no evidence of its claims and is essentially a long winded name calling.

Ironically, the "About Us" section of this shameless "Center for American Progress" immediately states that it builds on the achievements of progressive pioneers such as Teddy Roosevelt and Martin Luther King. What a laugh. Teddy Roosevelt has vigorously bashed Islam

http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2007/08/teddy-roosevelt.html

And I doubt Martin Luther King would endorse an ideology that validates slavery and has been horrific to black Africans:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rjDTyeqXt8&feature=channel_video_title

which explains why there are no large descendant black populations in the Islamic world as there are in the Americas.

Fear Inc. wrote: "Around the world, there are people killing people in the name of Islam, with which most Muslims disagree........"

On what do they base this bizzare statement?

Fear: "Indeed, in most cases of radicalized neighbors, family members, or friends, the Muslim American community is as baffled, disturbed, and surprised by their appearance as the general public...."

Really? Are they as baffled, disturbed and surprised by their appearance as Palestinian Muslims are baffled, disturbed and surprised when one of their "radicalized" neighbors butchers a Jewish family in Itmar, Israel for example?

I know Wikipedia is not often a reliable source. Still, I like to go to the "criticism" section on any left-leaning organization:

Center for American Progress
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Criticism

Some open government groups, such as the Sunlight Foundation and the Campaign Legal Center, criticize the Center's failure to disclose its contributors, particularly since it is so influential in appointments to the Obama administration.[16][17]

In March 2008, Think Progress (Think Progress is a blog edited by [Faiz] Shakir that "provide[s] a forum that advances progressive ideas and policies.) "posted that John McCain had plagiarized from a 1996 speech by Rear Admiral Timothy Ziemer. However, it was revealed that McCain had used similar lines in a speech during 1995 and Think Progress retracted the error the next day.[18][19][20] In October 2010, Think Progress posted that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce was bypassing campaign finance laws by using foreign money to fund campaign attack ads.[21]

FactCheck.org called it "a claim with little basis in fact",[22] while The New York Times wrote, "[T]here is little evidence that what the chamber does in collecting overseas dues is improper or even unusual, according to both liberal and conservative election-law lawyers and campaign finance documents".[23]

In February 2011, Lee Fang, a researcher for Think Progress, wrote an expose of Governor Scott Walker’s "conservative honey pot" donors, which included such “union-busting” organizations as Americans for Prosperity, and the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute, and the Bradley Foundation, all supported in some way by businessman Harry Bradley.[24] The article was criticized by John Hinderaker, a conservative blogger and fellow at the Claremont Institute in a response on Power Line which criticized Fang for hypocrisy, pointing out CAP’s ties to the Obama administration and that “CAP is funded, quite lavishly, by rich liberals” and “receives donations from companies, including Wal-Mart.” He also says that “Liberals are always hot to follow the money, except to where it really leads–their own paychecks.” [25]

Another Alinskyite smear job and vilification, another distinctive Badge of Honor for a genuine mensche with guts, backbone, and gonads. Kudos to Spencer the Great Leader!

Alinsky, you Manificent Bastard--we read your book!

Alinsky, you Magnificent Bastard--Robert Spencer has read your book!

Arthur,

I have issues with things like, “his approach of attacking everybody.” Pointing out the truth is an attack? Complaining about the method of relaying truth will not get you very far down the road with folks who cherish truth. And these attacks, “makes him look crazy?” Seriously? It makes him look smart and courageous in my view. You couldn’t have watched any of his debates and come away with that opinion. This one is a doozy, “Attacking Islam publicly can only be done safely by people who make it their full-time mission.” Ridiculous. Attacking Islam cannot be done safely by anyone, anywhere, full time mission or not.

“I will try again this year.” Good luck with that. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

“[N]ewer Islam exposers might become more effective than Mr. Spencer.” See, again, you just don’t get it. This entire smear is about sinister forces trying to silence the voices of truth. Mr. Spencer is just one of many listed in this stack of lies as “Islamophobes,” the fake noun with a fake meaning. It’s not how defenders of freedom present their message that irritates progressives, it’s the message itself. The new kids on the block will be labeled bigots and racists just like the current warriors are.

There is no “false fog” except that of ideology, it has nothing to do with respect. Well, maybe lack of respect for the truth, but that’s on them, not Mr. Spencer. And judging the founding fathers’ “errors in thinking” puts you back to pissing me off again.

As if the informal censorship of anything critical of Pisslam isn't bad enough, I wonder if we'll all live to see a day when all criticism of Pisslam is made a hate crime. Hitlary certainly seems to want to make it so and I'm certain her islamonazi masters do. If that happens, then its quite obvious the Constitution will be a meaningless piece of paper.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but just in case, and for the record, I've done a bit of a critique of the report....
http://thebattleoftours.blogspot.com/2011/08/fear-inc-flawed-critique-of-critics-of.html

Most of what “Fear, Inc.” says about me is just name-calling, but it makes an attempt at substance with this: “Spencer’s views on Islam—and his credibility in discussing Islam at all—are challenged by scholars at his own alma mater. He has ‘no academic training in Islamic studies whatsoever,’

This is true. There is no evidence whatsoever that Robert Spencer has any qualifications on Islam. A cursory search on Google reveals that Spencer has an M.A. in Christian studies and that about it

Whether Mr Spencer has any *paper* qualifications on the study of islam, or not, is meaningless.

He has read quran, hadiths and sira, read the earliest known biography of mohammed. He has intelligence, a critical mind, and integrity. This somehow makes him less believable than someone with a 'degree in islamic studies '?

If *you* take the trouble to read the quran, hadiths and sira, and the earliest known biography of mohammed, and come to the conclusion, from what *you've* read, that islam is a disgusting, vile, violent and mysogynist, totalitarian ideology, and mohammed was a violent, psychopathic, murdering torturer and paedophile, and many of the followers of islam today are following the quran, and mohammed's commands to the letter; because *you* don't have a degree in 'islamic studies', *you're conclusions are irrelevant/uninformed ?

To quote Buraq - you're a clown !

Whether Mr Spencer has any *paper* qualifications on the study of islam, or not, is meaningless.

He has intelligence, a critical mind, and integrity

yeah, kinda makes it easy for any twit to proclaim himself an "expert" on Islam :)

So we will take that as a NO on Mr Spencer's claim to be a scholar on Islam. its the same as Spencer claiming to be a doctor without having to go medical school

@ Skati: How hard is it to be a scholar who studies the islamic crime-manuals (Qur'an, sahih ahadith, tabari, ishaq, hedaya, risala) etc?

For centuries, Arab moslems have been translating them into English, and (surprise, surprrise) they invariably all agree.

Here's islam's "holy Message from god" as exemplified in the words and deeds of it's Founder:

"I will save humanity by lying to, torturing, robbing, burning, raping and killing everyone who disagrees with me - and you can, too!"

-Muhammad-

Here's the Qur'an summed up: "Fear allah and obey Muhammad - or else!"

So obviously, islam is ONLY an ancient crime-syndicate, and the only "religious" part in it is where they say:

"God told us to commit these crimes!"

(Capisce?)!

;-)

I am starting to get the feeling that "Fear, Inc." is about money.

If it wasn't for Daniel Pipes, Frank Gaffney, Steve Emerson, Robert Spencer, and David Yerushalmi, we would have had the first Muslim Cosby show by now.

They feel the big five are costing them money. They are certain that the quintet are tapping into millions, and millions of federal money.

Check out this very long, 8 part, but also very interesting panel discussion put on by CAP.

Wahjat Ali, Faiz Shakir, and Corely Saylor are there also.
