KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Nearly 80 American soldiers were wounded and five Afghans civilians were killed in a Taliban truck bombing targeting an American base in eastern Afghanistan, NATO said Sunday, a stark reminder that the war in Afghanistan still rages 10 years after the Sept. 11 terror attacks against the United States.
No U.S. soldiers were killed in Saturday night's bombing, which took place hours after the Taliban vowed to keep fighting U.S. forces in Afghanistan until all American troops leave the country. The insurgent movement also stressed that it had no role in the Sept. 11 attacks.
The blast shaved the facades from shops outside Combat Outpost Sayed Abad in Wardak province and broke windows in government offices nearby, said Roshana Wardak, a former parliamentarian who runs a clinic in the nearby town of the same name. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
Eight wounded civilians were brought to Wardak's clinic, two of them with wounds serious enough that they were sent to Kabul. She said one 3-year-old girl died of her wounds on the way to the clinic.
The Wardak governor's office confirmed the death toll and said a total of 17 Afghans were wounded — 14 civilians and three security officers.
The attack was carried out by a Taliban suicide bomber who detonated a large bomb inside a truck carrying firewood, NATO said. It was unclear how many foreign and Afghan soldiers were serving on the base.
"Most of the force of the explosion was absorbed by the protective barrier at the outpost entrance," NATO said, adding that the damage was repairable and that operations were continuing.
NATO said none of the 77 injuries sustained by the Americans was life-threatening. Spokesman Maj. Russell Fox said Sunday that all the international troops at the combat outpost are American.
Jihad causes poverty:
The governor's office said the blast was so powerful it damaged more than 100 shops in Sayed Abad's main bazaar, the hospital and the small town's administration building.
Springfield, MO (KSDK) - Charges have been filed against a man for shooting and killing a man Thursday evening in Springfield, Missouri.
Mohamed Dawod, 25, was charged Friday afternoon with first degree murder and armed criminal action.
Dawod is accused of shooting 32-year-old Justin Hall just before 6 p.m. at the Greyhound Bus Station on E. Kearney.
Documents state passengers were in line to re-board the bus, which was en route to St. Louis from Amarillo, Texas, when Dawod pointed a .22 Sig Sauer handgun at Hall's back, and shot him.
Two men wrestled Dawod to the ground as he continued to pull the trigger, but the gun jammed.
Witnesses say there was not an argument before the shooting.
Dawod was taken into custody, and requested medical treatment for injuries sustained while detained by the witnesses.
The weapon was recovered on the ticket counter with a live round in the chamber.
Hall was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.
After receiving treatment, Dawod was taken to the Springfield Police Department Headquarters where officers conducted a recorded interview.
During the interview Dawod claimed to not understand English well, and didn't understand his rights.
Dawod is currently held without bond.
She said one 3-year-old girl died of her wounds on the way to the clinic.

The above truck bomb tragedy, as usual, a tragedy to their own people and children too, obviously one the the tragic effects of the improperly controlled fertilizer distribution, for "bomb crops", as opposed to agri use.
But how does one institute ironclad controls in such a ravaged, troubled, and God forsaken, neigh, seemingly accursed land? They have for so long been cursed by being conquered by mahoundianism, their greatest cause of savagely being ravaged. The simple people, particularly those of the Hindu Kush, left alone want to do right, socially, basically, but their harnessers and harassers of islam and taliban, won't hear of it. They manage to oppress and keep them uneducated, for so long.
On a seperate note, as a comment to the above disgusting act mentioned in the OT comment above, this sounds like and has the makings of another random muslim attack, here in America, in response to the several fatwas and preachings of the whole islamic settlement, including the koran, to go get 'em when and where you can, and feel up to it.
Obviously the details layed out indicate pure murder, as an ambush, probably pre-meditated, see below too, not an individual who had been given any choice to risk or fight back.
Goes to prove, islam has no honor, only shame, the disgraced cult proving itself so, to the free world, where every life is precious, and where, with true honor, to true Freedom, every one will risk and sacrifice their lives, in defense of Freedom and real God, as the heroes of Flight 93, and so many elsewhere have done, and will do!
Allah will grant Jannat (heaven) for those innocents Muslims killed and the one who carried out the attack will be judged by his deeds in hereafter.

Just read the comment from that sick pos 'afghan knight'. A little girl murdered by her own murderous countrymen, and he thinks that's ok, because she'll go to heaven. Dear God.
