Bill Clinton: Netanyahu killed the peace process

Because he won't surrender to the jihad against Israel. Clinton here is just being self-serving as usual, touting the agreement he helped forge as the one that would have brought real peace, but in this case his self-serving fatuousness plays right into the hands of the Palestinian jihadists. "Bill Clinton: Netanyahu killed the peace process," by Josh Rogin in Foreign Policy, September 22 (thanks to Mark):

Who's to blame for the continued failure of the Middle East peace process? Former President Bill Clinton said today that it is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- whose government moved the goalposts upon taking power, and whose rise represents a key reason there has been no Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.

Clinton, in a roundtable with bloggers today on the sidelines of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, gave an extensive recounting of the deterioration in the Middle East peace process since he pressed both parties to agree to a final settlement at Camp David in 2000. He said there are two main reasons for the lack of a comprehensive peace today: the reluctance of the Netanyahu administration to accept the terms of the Camp David deal and a demographic shift in Israel that is making the Israeli public less amenable to peace.

"The two great tragedies in modern Middle Eastern politics, which make you wonder if God wants Middle East peace or not, were [Yitzhak] Rabin's assassination and [Ariel] Sharon's stroke," Clinton said.

Sharon had decided he needed to build a new centrist coalition, so he created the Kadima party and gained the support of leaders like Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert. He was working toward a consensus for a peace deal before he fell ill, Clinton said. But that effort was scuttled when the Likud party returned to power.

"The Israelis always wanted two things that once it turned out they had, it didn't seem so appealing to Mr. Netanyahu. They wanted to believe they had a partner for peace in a Palestinian government, and there's no question -- and the Netanyahu government has said -- that this is the finest Palestinian government they've ever had in the West Bank," Clinton said.

"[Palestinian leaders] have explicitly said on more than one occasion that if [Netanyahu] put up the deal that was offered to them before -- my deal -- that they would take it," Clinton said, referring to the 2000 Camp David deal that Yasser Arafat rejected....

Clinton sucks! Or was that someone else?

There is nothing a X as an X President...And that's the way it should stay...Clinton should butt out...and stay out...

Clinton also says a couple of other interesting things in that article. He says (I assume jokingly) that maybe God didn't want a peace process because of the death of Rabin and the stoke of Sharon. But there may be some truth to that.

Clinton also interprets the influence of the more recent Soviet immigrants to Israel as being less involved with the history of Israel and therefore less sympathetic to the Arabs and their claims. This shift in the demographics of Israeli society makes the peace process less likely, according to Clinton. However, once could also point out that the Soviets have had a long history of dealing with corruption and lying and are much less idealistic. They quite cynical are not as interested in compromising with Arabs because they see the situation more clearly. That's my interpretation.

"[Palestinian leaders] have explicitly said on more than one occasion that if [Netanyahu] put up the deal that was offered to them before -- my deal -- that they would take it," Clinton said, referring to the 2000 Camp David deal that Yasser Arafat rejected....

The Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. They had several - beginning with Oslo - and turned them ALL down.

Yasser Arafat REJECTED the deal. Why does Israel owe the Palestinians ANYTHING?

Unless Bill Clinton is being totally disingenuous here, always a possibility that can't be eliminated with Bubba, he still doesn't get it that the Arab Muslim world wants no Israel at all. He has learned nothing.

Bill Clinton has received millions from the Saudis. He got $20 million from Prince bandar to start a middle-eastern studies department at U of Arkansas in 1991, and the graft continued to flow right through his presidential campaigns and subsequent political activities. Anything he has to say about the middle-eastern 'peace process' should be summarily ignored.

I think Clinton, the most infamous American reprobate ever, just wants attention and invitations for speaking gigs.

IMO no one should give any attention to this reprobate who was, evidently more than anyone else, ultimately responsible for the intelligence failures (not to mention letting bin Landen slip away) that allowed 9/11 to happen:

He might even know that a "two state solution" is not possible given the Islamic imperative to take back all dar al Islam conquests, but I doubt this opportunist would care. Bad enough the disgusting Muslim world wants Israel totally annihilated period, but we have to suffer this character's drivel.

Netanyahu just delivered a great speech at the UN. He's logical and reasonable - a far cry from his whacko mahoundian counterparts.

Clinton is just s whore in myriad ways . . .

Fact 1: Israel and the PLO signed a peace accord in the Rose Garden, 1993.

Fact 2: Hamas suicide bombers began their reign of mayhem shortly thereafter.

Fact 3: As a result, the Israeli public turned against the peace process and elected the hawkish Likud over the dovish Labor Party.

Fact 3 is a direct result of fact 2. Palestinian suicide bombers - and their facilitators inside and outside of Fatah - killed the peace process.

I remember a conversation I had at the time with a Palestinian neighbor of mine. I tried to make him reconcile the Palestinian "desire for peace" with the suicide bombing campaign. This was his response...

"Well, if the Israelis won't negotiate in good faith, then they must TASTE THE FIRE" (his exact words).

This was/is the mentality of Israel's "partner in peace." The Bill Clintons of the world are apparently oblivious.

Complicit and no friend of Americans.

If Netanyahu was a sexy female I'm sure Bill would see things differently

Let's get the facts straight on these nice Palistinians.

"Palestinian rocket and mortar attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip have occurred since 2001. Between 2001 and January 2009, over 8,600 rockets had been launched, leading to 28 deaths and several hundred injuries"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_rocket_attacks_on_Israel

Here's the list for 2011...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Palestinian_rocket_attacks_on_Israel,_2011

Everytime the PA would turn Israel down to talk for peace time and time again. Doesn't anybody really see this?

Clinton was the most pompous president ever. He has one thing he'll go down in history with, that he made polictical correctness a way of life for so many. This is his way, though as with all self-righteous people and that is what it is, but by a different name, are blind at seeing anyone hurt by their lofty attitude and words. His statements do hurt Isreal and after what Obama has done with his big mouth, I think Isreal has taken enough damage.

Indeed, Mr. Clinton, needs to just go away or at least to not make anymore comments. But he has to go about and get his euphoric dose of self-righteousness. Oh, you are just a good man caring about those people so well why they murder innocent Israelis'.

Though, I guess I do owe Mr. Clinton a bit of thanks, because if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't of become a Republican. Thanks Bill!

Hey, Billy-Bob, didn't you learn a thing when Arafat spat on wide-ranging proposals right under your nose?

Netanyahu got elected because Israeli voters understood what you refuse to understand.

Clinton went too far in his comments. But (and again I know people on this site will disagree, some of them vehemently) he was a friend of Israel during his presidency and spent years (rightly) denouncing Arafat and his successors at the PA for walking away from the 2000 peace deal. I happen to believe that Bibi is not above criticism.

I'm Jewish and moderate, and I know our people are under siege from Islamism, traditional anti-Semites, and all their ideological enablers. But this does not mean the Israeli govt. is always right. OK, attack me now.

macck said: But this does not mean the Israeli govt. is always right. OK, attack me now.

And what does your assessment that the Israeli govt is always right have to do with assessing the actions of Clinton and your assertion that he was a 'friend of Israel? Every president of the US gets to say how much they are a friend- ala Jimmy Carter, and lord it over that nation and tell it which way the sun comes up. Of course they can't complain about the arabs too much lest the arabs tell them to go to hell, which is what they do about everything. And Clinton is taking his multi millions in arab bribes to him, and out and out changing history. It was the arabs who endlessly turned down every deal and then the next round of negotiations began with the rejected previous offers.
But again... macck said- this doesn't mean the Israeli govt is always right.
Un huh. And when we criticize the sudanese for enslaving 500,000 black african women and children- i.e. the legitimacy of slavery by Islam, it of course.. ****doesn't mean we are always right*****
But your assertion is a non-sequitar. And that you should be attacked for.
Israel is a democracy and a real one, and offers religious freedom to all others unlike EVERY ARAB AND MOSLEM NATION THAT OFFERS DHIMMITUDE AND SUBMISSION TO ALL OTHERS.
But as you'd say.... 'that doesn't mean we're always right'

uh huh.
Thanks for the hard dollars and sense in-depth analysis macck
