Just how compromised is the FBI? A top Florida FBI agent said Thursday that members of a Saudi family living quietly near Sarasota were questioned after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, but no evidence was found that linked them to the hijackers who slammed jetliners into New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon.A week after The Miami Herald published a story showing ties between the family and some of the terrorists, Tampa’s head FBI agent, Steven Ibison, released a statement Thursday saying the FBI investigated “suspicions surrounding” the Sarasota home, but never found evidence tying the family members to the hijackers.
“There was no connection found to the 9/11 plot,” said the statement, released to the St. Petersburg Times.
The agency’s statement came just days after U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Fla., asked for a House investigation into the events surrounding the Sarasota family, which abruptly left the home several days before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, leaving behind three vehicles, food in the refrigerator and toys in the swimming pool.
The FBI’s official version, the second in a week, conflicts sharply with reports from people who worked at the homeowners’ association and a counterterrorism officer who joined the investigation.
A senior administrator at the luxury community told The Herald that cars used by the 9/11 hijackers — the tag numbers noted by security guards at the gate — drove to the entrance asking to visit the family at various times before the attacks. One of the cars was linked to terrorist leader Mohamed Atta, said administrator Larry Berberich.
In addition, a counterterrorism officer who requested anonymity said agents also linked telephone calls between the home and known hijacking suspects in the year before the attacks.
So far, the FBI’s response to the discovery has drawn criticism from former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham, D-Fla., who said he was never told of the Sarasota investigation when he was co-chair of the congressional inquiry into the 9/11 attacks. Thursday’s FBI statement said the agency provided all the information to the congressional inquiry.
Graham, who appeared on national television this week, said the FBI failed to provide information in the years after 9/11 linking members of the terrorist team to other Saudis in California until congressional investigators discovered it themselves.
“It was not because the FBI gave us the information. We had a very curious and effective investigator who found out,” Graham told the MSNBC cable television network.
In an appearance Monday on MSNBC, Graham said he spoke with President Barack Obama’s counterterrorism advisor. He said he has gone to the White House’s chief of counterterrorism to ask that the administration look into the Sarasota case.

wow Robert, do you ever sleep? A good investigator would never let these kind of facts alone. My experience with the FBI is that they are very good, effective investigators. What I would like to know is who told them to keep this quiet. The problem is that there is too much interference coming down from the top. So who is it that commanded silence in this case? The answer to that question is going to be interesting to say the least. One thing we see in this story, is the involvement of the Saudi's. If these folks were involved and the Saudi gov't knew of it (not beyond the realm of possibility), will the US do anything about it? Until these questions are answered the US should not give the Saudi's any more military hardware, and no parts to fix their aircraft. Saudi Arabia is an ally that we can't afford to keep.

Then they merrily took a drive up the Wahhabi Corridor (Rt 7) on their way to Dulles Airport to catch a flight out.

I agree with Ronald W. Carnine. The FBI is quite well equipted and know the game, but are taking orders from the top, which paralizes any real investigations or charges brought against such suspected terrorist linked people such as the family in question, though it really seems not to be so but just a cover-up. What really disturbs me is the fact that what they were linked to. We will never forget what was done to us and the horrendous loss of life of the 9/11 murders. Any cover-up in my book is a spit in the face to America and as close to TREASON as it comes.

It's true that the FBI is more concerned about protecting saudi royal family than about protecting american citizens. I don't see how the FBI has upfront in providing Congress all the minute details about the saudi family staying here in America. In fact, they have done exactly the opposite. Why? For whom? I'm normally a guy who takes the FBI and their reports at face value. But, this case presents an FBI who isn't telling the truth.

Sorry to be a contrarian, Swami, but it was under President Bush that the original and continuing cover-up took place, not to mention the failure to follow obvious clues and prevent the attack in the first place.
It's about money, not oil. The Saudi hijackers were given preferential treatment, in spite of highly questionable visa applications, because the US government wanted Saudis to spend money in the US. The bin Laden family were given expedited treatment to flee the US right after 9/11. The US did not, and does not, wish to upset the Saudis because they own our debt and billions of dollars in US treasuries they could use to topple our economy, if they wished to do so. The Saudis were heavily involved in President Bush's so-called businesses before he became President, and are likely major contributors to his Presidential library.

Maybe Ghazzawi is on a list of Saudi "host families" for Saudi students here in the US. They could have taken advantage of him a number of ways.

There is only "ONE" truth. It's been 10 years since 9-11. And Americans still don't have this puzzel put together. Why? Because most Americans don't want to hear the truth.
How can that be? Just like in France, the UK, Spain, and Norway the truth is staggering and almost impossible to understand. Until we understand the logic behind this we will never understand it.
