It is a hard thing for me, as an American growing up in the streets of Philadelphia, to read of such human cruelity without wanting to beat those non-men to within an inch of their lives. But, then I would be a brute. Men are suppose to protect their women and children. Where is the human rights people? Someone please tell me!

This is from growing up in a culture that is just damn violent. From seeing it everyday it's just like a walk in the park. I really can't get the violent picture out of my head of those poor women.

Acid attacks and wife burnings are common in parts of Muslim countries because the victims are the most voiceless in these societies: They are poor and female.

Excerpt from Chapter 8, 'the getting of wisdom'.

Ms Brooks was visiting the Islamic University in Gaza in the early 1990s. She notes that in 1987, when she first visited Gaza "girls, unveiled and wearing blue jeans, had been in the streets alongside the youths, throwing stones at Israeli soldiers."

But things had changed.

"Driving from the huge military roadblock that divides the Gaza Strip from Israel, I hadn't seen a single unveiled woman.
"There is no coercion", said Majida [Ms Brooks' guide/ 'minder' on the occasion of the second visit. They were conversing in the women's common room of the university. - dda]

A mob of Muslim boys, arrogant strutting thugs, gang up on this lone girl; they tell her to 'cover up' Islamically; they hurl rotten fruit at her, and they tell her that next time - unless she dons the hijab - they will throw **acid**.

The scene is virtually identical to the scene in the posted article - the strutting Mohammedan bully-boys in Faisalabad, throwing acid at their female fellow first-year because she wasn't wearing the slave-rag.

Gaza or Faisalabad, the common factor is: ISLAM.

My friend, who is a secular Muslim was chastised by some young man from Middle East for not wearing head cover, and she balled him out and caused a scandal in the parking lot in front of the mosque where she went for some social function. The entire Muslims community is speaking about it and her husband is very proud of her. She made a point that nobody can dictate what she wears and especially some young punk who thinks that he is defending Allah.

In Pakistan, this guy could have thrown acid in her face, and people like us, who say the truth that Muslims follow a polygamist pedophile (he married Aisha when she was 6 and had sex with he when she was 9 and he was 56) and murderer (900 Jews of Medina were beheaded at his order) would be beheaded for blasphemy. Islam needs reformation badly to make it compatible with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

On Saturday, I went to Islam 101 class given by two very nice young American Muslim women. One was American born and one was from Jordan but both spoke without accent. They made a claim that "ONLY" 1% of all Muslims of 1600 millions are extremest. While this makes "only" 16 millions of crazed men who are willing to murder and die for Allah, this is more than the entire number of Jews on Earth (14 millions). Scanning Internet, the more accurate number of Jihadists (Muslim extremists) is more like 20% of all Muslims, which is over 300 millions of crazed men who are yearning to get a fast ticket to Paradise with 72 virgins by dying as "martyrs" (i.e while murdering Jews and Americans).

US citizens should send this article to their local politician/and or Hilary Clinton & ask why the US is still funding Pakistan. The lame excuses that come back will be interesting reading.

Muslims are taught, essentially, that they individually are God or have the same moral prerogatives as God. Other religions have evolved to the point where they abhor violence, and preach that, if someone sins, God will punish that person in time with his/her/its wrath, or karma, etc. But Muslims, in a communal extension of what is called infantile narcissism, believe that they individually have the right to mete out death and other punishments to those the imams have decreed to be "sinners." Thus the "honor" killings of girls (and sometimes boys) who have fallen in love with people the family deems unacceptable, the acid throwings, the fatwas to murder Salman Rushdie for WRITING A BOOK, and the unrelenting demand to impose the caliphate and Shari'a law anywhere and everywhere they can, etc. ad infinitum and ad nauseam. The lack of remorse, the lack of an inner voice of guilt, the lack of a sense of right and wrong, the Orwellian perversion of terms like "compassionate" and "merciful" to mean only those things that further the Muslim will to power (itself derived from the merchant/businessman/multiple-sex-partner-exploiting, weapon-bearing, murder-inciting "prophet"- what other founder of a major religion has a profile that looks like that of a failed/frustrated businessman with a powerful sex drive and predilection for violence? Jesus? Buddha? Baha'u'llah, the founder of Bahai? Hardly.)- these seem to be the basis for Muslim morality, culture, and "conscience," if the term can be applied in this context. So the acid attacks are hardly surprising, sadly.

I am sure that the reason that more women do not agitate for their rights is because of fear of having acid thrown in their faces. How can women protect themselves against this? THIS CRIME IS MONSTROUS EVIL! We all know that the government is not doing enough to protect women from this horrific crime and until punishment is more severe, these attacks will continue. If the perpetrators are not severely punished, then the government is complicit in the crime. It should be against the law to buy acid or at the very least it should be strictly regulated.
