Turkish PM suspends all defense ties with Israel, promises "this process will be followed by different measures"

Another escalation of the Turkish Temper Tantrum, in which Erdogan has now also called Israel a "spoiled boy." "Erdogan: Turkey suspends all defense ties with Israel," from the Jerusalem Post, September 6:

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that Turkey was "totally suspending" defense ties with Israel, after downgrading diplomatic relations with the country.
While it was initially reported that Erdogan had also suspended all trade ties between the two nations, this was later clarified to refer to defense-related trade only.
"Trade ties, military ties, defense industry ties - we are completely suspending them. This process will be followed by different measures," Erdogan told reporters in Ankara.
But an official at Erdogan's office later told Reuters the prime minister was referring to military and defense trade ties only, not overall trade, which last year reached a total bilateral volume of $3.5 billion.
Erdogan also said that Turkey would implement further sanctions against Israel and said that "our ships will be seen more frequently in [the Eastern Mediterranean]."

Turkey may attempt to broaden the conflict:

Some Turkish and Israeli commentators have suggested Turkey might use the feud with Israel to build up naval patrols in seas between the Israel and the divided island of Cyprus.
Turkey has bitterly complained about recent Cypriot-Israeli energy deals and the presence of Turkish ships would have a menacing effect.

Turkish-occupied Cyprus:

Turkey and Cyprus have been at odds for decades over the ethnically split island, whose internationally recognized Greek Cypriot government is an EU member. Turkish Cypriots live in a breakaway state in northern Cyprus only recognised by Turkey.
Asked about exploratory drilling for natural gas by Greek Cypriots, Egemen Bagis, Turkey's European Union minister, told Turkish media last week: "It is for this (reason) that countries have warships. It is for this (reason) that we have equipment and we train our navies."
Erdogan's announcement Tuesday came as diplomatic relations between Turkey and Israel were severely strained following the release of the Palmer Commission report on the raid of the Mavi Marmara and Israel's refusal to answer Ankara's insistence that it issue an apology for the incident.
Erdogan also told reporters that he may visit Gaza and would decide whether to do so after talks with Egypt. Erdogan is planning to visit Cairo later this month.
A senior Israeli official on Sunday warned that it would be a diplomatic mistake for Erdogan to visit the Gaza Strip.
Channel 2 quoted the official as saying Erdogan would damage Turkey's relations with the United States by visiting Gaza. He added that the move would also weaken Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, presumably because a trip to Hamas-controlled Gaza would challenge him as the legitimate representative of the Palestinians.....

Turkey to cut defense ties...

As I posted once before, Israel's arms exports reached $7 billion dollars in 2010. Yes, billion! So, who needs Turkey? Ergogan might as well cut bow ties for all the harm it will do Israel.

Clown!

'Stop Turkey' site has some useful supplementary material:

you are very wrong. a trade cut off with Israel is going to have devastating effect on Israel's economy. a very bad one.

Hi Miriam!

It's not a trade cut off, it's only defense - for now.

From the JW article: But an official at Erdogan's office later told Reuters the prime minister (Erdogan) was referring to military and defense trade ties only, not overall trade, which last year reached a total bilateral volume of $3.5 billion.

Anyway, Miriam, Israel's GDP in 2010 was around 217$ billion dollars. And Warren Buffet's first investment outside the USA was in Israel - ISCAR Metalworking.
I wouldn't worry about Israel. She has resourceful and intelligent people running everything. Unlike Islamic Stoning Age economies.

Israel should snap out of denial and cancel all military cooperation and weapons trade. Should embrace Greece and Cyprus, who are now doing the right thing, and embark on an all-out project to aid both in the security and military areas, and greatly empower both. Should go beyond them into the Balkans and forge an alliance with Serbia who was oppressed by Turkey in the past, and recently - criminally - bombed and destroyed by the US, England and NATO. Israel should embrace other former victims of Turkey, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro and Rumania. To a large degree it is already being done. But israel should take it to a whole new level and forge a regional alliance in the Balkans.

"miriam rove" keeps consistently trolling for the Muslims, even as she occasionally lies that "the Iranians hate Islam", to fool other posters. "devastating effect on Israel's economy". Yeah, right. If anyone wants to learn about the Shi'ite Muslim practices of taqiyyah and kitman, "miriam rove"s posts are an excellent educational material.

look . pick up a copy of WSJ today and read what the head Isreal central bank is saying and then call me a troll.

I think that, amidst the confrontation with Israel that the anatolian arabs want to provoke, Recep Erdoclown will want to make sure that an old score is settled.

Sorry for posting that same video every time there's an article about that hydrophobic clown, but I think that barking idiot just begs for this.

Clown, indeed. Wants to lead a jihad charge on the Jews on the horseback, jataghan sword in hand, but cannot ride a horse. Just like Nasser on May 26, 1967, vowing to finish Hitler's job on the Jews, just 9 days before the Six Days War ... .

Ruslan~ I've had contact with lots of Tehranians who profess to hate Islam. They do not lie. They dream of a revived Zoroastrianism, and secretly wear Star of David necklaces beneath their chadours. Miriam may not always tow your Party Line, yet remains an ally.

It's true, "miriam" started out here as a troll. There were even posters who had seen him trolling other sites at the same time.

Over the course of a year or so, after numerous attacks and confrontations by posters on this site " "Miriam's" behavior and comments began to come into line as he learned what we would and would not tolerate. No more of the "muslims don't hate Jews" lies and things of that sort.

I'm not sure what "Miriam" is now, but I know that he started out here as a troll, I witnessed it, confronted him point by point and to this day he will not speak to me, which is fine by me. I do know I still don't believe everything he says but I won't go into what & why.

So when anyone accuses "miriam" of being a troll , I'm here to tell you I witnessed it and it was true. As for what he is today? Only time will tell.

In defense of 'Miriam'

Trolls sometime appear on JW to post. However, they only stay for a few days or weeks and then disappear. Miriam's been around for a long time. Also, his posts are consistent in that he criticizes Islam and the ideology. He also gives info that trolls would never give. For example, I know he has a sister who visits him from Iran and that he works for a media company in New York. Also. he doesn't have a computer at home, so he posts on JW from his office. And there's someone who corrects the English on his posts.

It's strange, but you get a feeling for a fellow poster when they hang around long enough. I feel that I have got to know Miriam. He's maybe a 'rough diamond' as we say, but he's kosher, in my opinion.

No, 'Miriam' is not a troll.

Ruslan, miriam—despite his username—is a guy. And while I disagree with him at times—as in his, to my mind, overly optimistic view of Iranians shrugging off the Mullahs any time soon—he *is no troll*.

Opinions on the importance of Turkey's Islamization and growing bellicosity towards Israel may vary among thoughtful posters—that does not mean he is "trolling for the Muslims".
