I am glad, if it turns out to be actually true, that Gilad Shalit is still alive, and still in good health. I am sorry for the families of those whom the freed jihadists have murdered in the past, and those whom they will murder in the future once they gain their freedom.

When this news broke I had a hard time taking it seriously.
Obviously what has happened to Gilad Shalit is horrific, but to trade 1,027 prisoners for the life of one Israeli citizen is patently absurd.
Do the Israelis simply not understand that releasing violent, angry men and women onto the street will not only make Israel less safe, but that these people will also terrorize less violent Palestinians in the West bank and Gaza?
Are Israelis not sickened by this? How many thousands of man hours went into the arrest and prosecution of these criminals?
While this does demonstrate the Israelis' commitment to the value of human life, this is a slap to the face of Israeli law enforcement official who has ever done his job.

Things are not always as they seem on the surface. I am constantly amazed at the naivete of many JWers, thinking like innocent-but-dear Midwesterners, amongst whom I live. Consider for a moment the multitudinous nefarious ways that the Israelis could use this to their advantage, and then consider the possibility that they may be employing more than one of these to their advantage in their timeless battle against the evil cult of the musloids.
Israel is tasked with the protection of the safety and the future of the Jewish Homeland and its people and they employ many behind-the-scenes 'means' to accomplish their goals. Most of these never become known to the rest of the world, (nor even to their own people) but do not doubt that they are being utilized constantly.

I forgot to add, the appropriate way to have handled this is to first target the Hamas leadership if they don't release Gilad, then cut off their power and water, then begin carpet bombing them. They could also start killing 100 terrorists for every day that they refuse to release him.

Sure enough, Arik went accross the border and personally captured 4 Jordanian Army officers, who were than exchanged for Ghibli. He was brought home alive and whole, to the great rejoicing of the whole Israeli people.

at one point, a major confrontation occured where the idf proceeded to attack the fatah at the battle of karameh. (arafat fled.)
the jordanians joined the battle (that was not planned) and thus, the idf was forced to fight a heavier battle than planned. during the course of this battle, we lost some thirty soldiers and some tanks andarmoured cars.
while the battle only took 3-4 hours, the idf spent the next 8 hours recovering even the dammaged tanks (!)
thus, it is not surprising at all this swap for shalit...
as one of the posters above said, it would be now much simpler to eliminate these scum 'in action' as in drone attacks...

I have not read "Soldiers of Misfortune" but I am aware in general terms that Soviets took some American and British POWS back with them to the hell which was Russia under Stalin. And such men were not heard from again. It is also my understanding that Churchill and FDR actually kept thousands of Soviet soliders in the West who were not forced to go back to the USSR, though many were sent back, and that Stalin used the Americans and British as bargaining chips. So, some Soviet soldiers were spared the hell of Stalin's psychopathy but it came at the price of Brits and Americans. I don't exactly know what FDR and Churchill knew or could have done about such things, but I do know that calling them (and Eisenhower) traitors, as Engraged did, is over-the-top stuff completely. He also referred to Churchill as a hypocrite and a phony, this of the man who saved his nation, as A.J.P. Taylor said of Churchill in the 15th and final volume of the Oxford History of England. We are hopeful that Gilad returns home quickly, by next Tuesday or Wednesday, and with G-d’s help, he will be able to overcome all that he has endured during his captivity.

it is easy for me to empathize with you and i understand your 'rage'.
while i am pretty well versed in the background and consequences of musloids 'contacts' with israel, i have a rather superficial knowledge regarding the attrocities committed by musloids in other parts of the world.
you have certainly given me the impetus to further inform myself on the kosovo war (thanks for the links.)
granted, these events were rather recent and you may have suffered on a personal level.
i think it is important though, to differentiate between the politicians of the west, the western media and *the people of the west* and not to throw the baby with the water...
as you have pointed out, the truth is coming out, and once exposed...one cannot deny existing knowledge and still be able to look in the mirror.

ever since Gilad was captured he has been remembered in my prayers.
In the christian prayer book that I use, on Fridays there is a set of intercessions that includes "prisoners, and the persecuted".
So each Friday I have prayed for Gilad; just as I pray for Asia Bibi in prison in Pakistan, and Yusuf Nadarkhian in Iran.
I have prayed that just as the LORD sent his Angel to stand with the three young men in the fiery furnace in Babylon, and as He sent his Angel to be with Daniel in the lion's den, that He would be with Gilad in the dark dungeon surrounded by the orcs of Hamas.
