Deewali PC version: festival of lights that celebrates the return of the God king Ram after he had defeated the evil king Ravan.

Deepwali non pc version: celebration of the utter defeat of the evil Lankan king Ravan and burning down of much of his city. This was in revenge and result of the kidnapping of Ram’s wife by Ravan. This serves as a stark warning to all evil doers that if you kidnap or harm innocent people you will face the punishment and wrath of the Hindus. The lighting of the lamps, (which now resembles Christmas lighting), all over a town and city, celebrate not only the return of Ram but also the symbolic burning of Ravan’s city.

Indeed Hindu and Christian / Western civilization share most values (including, unfortunately, discrimination based on birth).

While non - Islamic civilizations have had their share of evils, we are elevated by (as correctly pointed out by Sean) the golden rule of ethics which is our superordinate value. Sooner or later, the golden rule uproots evils that develop in our societies (such as casteism and racism).

We definitely need to preserve this quality and hence the struggle with Islam. May all those committed to elevating ALL peoples triumph over those who desire to institutionalize any form of discrimination amongst human beings.

The last verse of the gayatri mantra, Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat, which in sanskrit loosely translates into asking God to inspire our intellect ("Dhiyo").

Knowledge, courage and truth are divine attributes.

Speaking out against Islam and the atrocities that Muhammad committed is not hate speech, it is part of our duty (dharma). The forces of evil do not like this. They willproject their ignorance,fear, and lies onto the truth-tellers. This is a battle of good and evil.

Both the religions of Christianity and Hinduism have preached peace on earth by following their religious tenets which teach peaceful co-existence by the followers of different religious beliefs ! "So, like this dude had, like, a big cool kingdom and people liked him. But, like, his step-mom, or something, was kind of a bitch, and she forced her husband to, like, send this cool-dude, he was Ram, to some national forest or something... .........

Since he was going, for like, something like more than 10 years or so..... he decided to get his wife and his bro along... you know...so that they could all chill out together. But Dude, the forest was reeeeal scary shit... really man...they had monkeys and devil s and shit like that. But this dude, Ram, kicked butt with darts and bows and arrows... so it was fine.

But then some bad gangsta boys, some jerk called Ravan, picks up Ram's babe Sita and lures her away to his hood. And boy, was our man, and also his bro, Laxman, pissed... all the gods were with him... So anyways, you don't mess with gods. So, Ram, and his bro get an army of monkeys... Dude, don't ask me how they trained the damn monkeys... just go along with me, ok...

So, Ram, Lax and their monkeys whip this gangsta's ass in his own hood... Anyways, by this time, their time's up in the forest... and anyways... it gets kinda boring, you know... no TV or malls or shit like that. So,they decided to hitch a ride back home.... and when the people realize that our dude, his bro and the wife are back home... they thought, well, you know, at least they deserve something nice... and they didn't have any bars or clubs in those days... so they couldn't take them out for a drink, so they, like, decided to smoke and shit... and since they also had some lamps, they lit the lamps also....so it was pretty cooool... you know with all those fireworks... ......... .

Really, they even had some local band play along with the fireworks... and you know, what, dude, that was the very first, no kidding.., that was the very first music-synchronized fireworks... . you know, like the 4th of July stuff, but just, more cooler and stuff, you know.

And, so dude, that was how, like, this festival started."

It is a shame he has put the issue of Diwali to the lowest level of its sanctity and made a fool of himself in the eyes of western readers by his poor humour ! If one does not like the beliefs of other fellowmen then it is a sign of graciousness and maturity of mind to keep mum rather than make fun of the belief of tens of millions of Hindus to whom Shri Ram , the hero of the epic Ramayan , is like what is Jesus to millions of Christians. If only the immature and ignorant Malkush was a Christian by birth , I am sure , he wouldn't dare make fun of Jesus's birth or the crucifixion. In fact Malkush enjoys such liberty of talking nonsense on Sri Ram and the sombre occassion of Diwali just because of the utmost freedom that the only non-dogmatic religion in the world that is Hinduism. Hinduism does not dictate any commandments nor did it oppose its members from forming new religions like Budhism , Sikhism , Jainism and so on during the 5000 years old civilization that is India.
