Muslim shouts "You're all going to die, Allahu akbar" on Southwest flight, plane makes emergency landing

Nothing to do with terrorism, of course. "Passenger: 'You're all going to die,'" by Joe Gamm for the Amarillo Globe-News, October 18 (thanks to Debbie):

Somewhere in the heavens above Amarillo, angry shouts rang out from the back of Southwest Airlines Flight 3683.

“You’re all going to die,” a man dressed in black screamed at passengers Tuesday afternoon. “You’re all going to hell. Allahu Akbar,” translated as God is great in Arabic.

Federal authorities arrested Ali Reza Shahsavari, 29, of Indialantic, Fla., onboard the Boeing 737 after pilots made an emergency landing at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport at 3:30 p.m. He is being held in the Randall County jail on a federal charge of interfering with a flight crew.

None of the 136 passengers and five crew members on the flight from Los Angeles to Kansas City was hurt, said Brad Hawkins, spokesman for Dallas-based Southwest.

Police said the incident began with Shahsavari arguing with another passenger. The flight crew separated the men, said Amarillo police Cpl. Jerry Neufeld.

Shahsavari went into a bathroom and yelled obscenities from the rear of the plane, said passenger Doug Oerding, of Sacramento, Calif. Attendants tried to calm Shahsavari before a female flight attendant finally succeeded in quieting him. Oerding said.

As the tension mounted, the aircraft began to gain speed and descend, Oerding said. The slender Navy veteran said he put his shoes back on in preparation to act.

“All of us guys were looking at him like, ‘Are we going to have to do something?’” Oerding said after finishing a cigarette outside the Amarillo terminal while waiting to reboard the plane.

Amarillo Aviation Director Patrick Rhodes said an emergency call was placed about 3:30 p.m. to the control tower at Rick Husband. The caller initially reported a male passenger was attempting to break into the cockpit, Rhodes said. Amarillo police said the call came from the cockpit.

“He was being disruptive and unruly on the flight, but he was not specifically trying to break into the cockpit,” Rhodes said.

Not specifically!

When the plane reached a gate at the airport, police boarded it and arrested Shahsavari without incident, Neufeld said.

“He was waiting at the door when we went in,” Neufeld said. “He cooperated with officers.”

FBI Special Agent Mark White, based in Dallas, said the event did not appear to be an act of terrorism. He described Shahsavari as a U.S. citizen who might have experienced an episode of mental illness.

“It sounded like he sort of lost control of himself,” White said....

Of course! How could terrorism possibly be involved in the case of a Muslim shouting "Allahu akbar" on an airplane and telling the passengers that they were all going to die? He must be mentally ill!

TSA agents removed Shahsavari’s luggage from the plane, searched it and turned it over to his unidentified sister, who was traveling with him, Neufeld said.

The sister stayed in Amarillo overnight, Neufeld said. He said there was a language barrier for investigators attempting to interview Shahsavari, who is of Iranian descent. Shahsavari was born in Mississippi, Neufeld said....

Certainly for many who are born in Mississippi there is a language barrier.

Not a malicious terrorist, Just you're average "Allahu Akbar" shouting crazy muslim.
Nothing to see here, move along.

It was my impression from the article that he just lost his temper. It is not something that is unknown to happen on flights. Also a real terrorist would not have made a spectacle of themselves.

Then I read that he is "of Iranian descent".

In common usage "of X descent" means your parents are from X but you grew up in the local country. That he can't speak english well enough to communicate with the police says to me that he isn't "of Iranian descent". He's from Iran. It's not a lie but it is a missleading way to describe him.

Because he is from Iran and considering the current situation, it is possible that the purpose of the outburst on a flight was to send the message "we have people in your country".

That is possible but not likely. It is more likely that he just went berzerk like people sometimes do on flights. The DHS should still investigate him thuroughly though.

Why do people still get on planes with Muslims on board?

“You’re all going to hell. Allahu Akbar,” translated as God is great in Arabic.

Actually it's Arabic for "Sieg Heil!"

"He described Shahsavari as a U.S. citizen who might have experienced an episode of mental illness." His mental illness was that he suddenly realised he is living in Dar al-Harb & he better do his little bit to bring about Dar al-Islam. Just being a good muslim really.

The weirdest thing about this weird incident is that according to the report, Ali Reza Shahsavari was born in Mississippi, but can't communicate in English.

The quality of the report itself was not stellar, as it was unclear as to whether it was Shahsavari or the other passenger who was the Navy veteran and who put on his shoes to act. The photo shows Shahsavari without shoes. It was also unclear if it was Shahsavari or his sister or both who couldn't communicate in English.

It is not unheard of for a Muslim to go bonkers and take a load of people with him when he commits suicide. In 1999, an Egyptian airliner crashed into the sea, most likely because the pilot wanted to commit suicide. The Egyptian government covered up the incident because it reflected badly on a Muslim.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2000/jun/09/egyptaircrash.usa

I am angry that someone who is a US citizen from birth is allowed to coast along on the premise or reality that he can't speak English. I'm angry that plane passengers aren't interviewed personally to determine if they are a risk. I will be angry if Shahsavari doesn't face substantial time for putting an airplane at risk.

What happens if two or three crazies happen to be on an airplane at the same time, even if they haven't coordinated before?

If he cannot speak English well, how did he manage to get out "You’re all going to die,”, “You’re all going to hell. Allahu Akbar,” and make himself understood?

When my siblings came back from camp, they had learned the usual hello, goodby, please, thank you before moving on to the dirty words. I'm just saying that when you start to learn a language, that vocabulary is not usually high on the list of need to know to survive and have people help you survive.

We are treating these incidents too lightly, which is why we are seeing more and more of this. Even if there is no terrorism per se, the cost in time and money to the passengers and airline is considerable. Why aren't the passengers and airlines suing these barrows?

This joker should be quickly processed and imprisoned for at least 10 years.

As far as this "born in Mississippi" nonsense, it only proves that Muslims will never be part of civilization.

It's fascinating to compare the Amarillo Globe-News version of the 'incident' to the PC, sanitized Reuters version where "authorities gave scant details on the nature of Shahsavari's behavior".

> It is more likely that he just went berzerk
> like people sometimes do on flights.

What flights do you usually take? My parents took me on my first flight in the 1950s when I was 2 years old. I have been flying all my life, including 20+ hour flights to China. I can't begin to count how many flights I have been on in the last 50 years.

I have seen lots of obnoxious people, and some that were in various stages of drunkenness, or arguing with flight attendants for one reason or another.

But I have absolutely NEVER seen anyone go "berzerk" on a flight. I know it happens, but it is the rare exception and should never be the assumption.

Maybe the guy was just wanting to let everyone know how "great" (Akbar) he thinks his "god" (Allah) is.

But he removed all doubt as to his motives when he started screaming "“You’re all going to die”.

This sounds like another case of lawfare in the works -- like "The Flying Imams". He just wants to make some easy bucks by suing the airline and security for discrimination.

It's high time for an "Infidel Airlines." Imagine how much cheaper it would be without the expensive jihadist-inspired security measures and long wait times. Anyone know if private companies can do this?

Ima

Notice how the non-mahoundian males on the flight calmly and quietly began preparing to take the guy down. Count on the Ordinary American Hero to save the day if all else fails.

Haha! Muslims, when will you figure out you will not be able to pull another 9/11. The passengers and crew will kick your ass. Period. No more hijacking, those days are over. Not in America, we will not take it, and if we are gonna die anyway, might as well go all out, give it all ya got, and take that terrorist out! Left, right, center, this is something ALL Americans agree upon.

The classical example to explore the limits of free speech is whether you can yell FIRE! in a crowded theater.

The modern example is whether you can yell "Allahu Akbar" on a crowded airplane. (. . . or anywhere)

Islam is a life long "episode of mental illness," it's not just losing one's temper .... like having a really bad hair day.

He lives in Indialantic, Florida, really not surprised. We have a mosque here in Melbourne, Florida. Not to mention a growing muslim population.

As to the language issue, sounds "fishy," like an "FBI" pre-written statement. So he was born in this country and he's 29-years old? He can't speak English, how come? What, did his parents ship him back to Iran, for "culture and sentivity training"? Or is this more evidence of "FBI mis-information or "bungling" of another incident.

Whatever it is, I want him, his ties, his mosque and his family thoroughly investigated and proscuted. Yes, I think jail time would do just nicely.

If you want to mouth-off the statement, allie hukuy baruu (no spelling error just me messing with islam and "god is great"), you need to be sentenced to jail time with mandatory training in "cultural tolerance". If muslims want to act like animals, put them in "Multiculture Training Centers". No, this is not Manzanar! This is an attempt to teach muslims, true multiculturalism, which is: the appreciation, acceptance or promotion of multiple cultures and the respect for all religions.

Also, like those caught driving drunk, make them pay for the chance to learn the truth. CHARGE HIM!!!

Were I in this flight I'd be all over the guy trying to knock him down and beat the hell out of him (and I'm a girl). I don't understand why people on the plane didn't do anything?

I mean, shoot first ask questions later. They were lucky. Imagine the guy was a real terrorist...

By the way thats not "ALL" muslims, put in Multicultural Training Centers, thats those who commit crimes. And thats so they don't have to be in the general population, for "real criminals". We just want to educate the ones who want to destroy, mame and murder. Not those good muslims who want to live peacefully.

It is a criminal act to disrupt, threaten and/or "go berzerk" on airplanes, for it or implies you will kill/harm people. It doesn't matter how long or how bad the air flight is, "good manners" and using complaint protocols are in place for all other problems.

After "911," the bombings in Spain, England, and Japan, plus over 25,000 terrorist attacks, thats just common sence.

So the authorities allowed a witness to go outside the airport and smoke? Were the passengers even interviewed formally by the FBI, etc?

Intentionally bad behavior by muslims on airplanes continues.

Of course! How could terrorism possibly be involved in the case of a Muslim shouting "Allahu akbar" on an airplane and telling the passengers that they were all going to die? He must be mentally ill!

Well, since Islam was founded by a delusional, epileptic, acromegalic 7th century Beduin warlord who heard 'voices' and worshipped a malevolent blood-thirsty Pagan Moon-god of the Kabba, why wouldn't his millennial Koranic descendants suffer from the same deranged mental disease? It only makes sense, as perpetuated through the ages by the first Caliphs, that Islam is a form of mental illness. A billion head banging 'worshippers' are slavishly suffering same as their founding father suffered in total emulation. While attacking and screaming "Allah akbar!!" they call it 'submission'...
Of course they must be mentally ill! It stands to reason, why the surprise?

Notice there is no mention of how terrified the passengers and crew must have been, no inkling of their feelings about being scared spitless and having their travel plans disrupted, no kudos to the female flight attendant who calmed down this muslimaniac.

Perhaps airlines should serve many pork selections---BLTs, North Carolina BBQ spare ribs, etc.--- and announce very publicly that loads of pork products are on board each and every flight Eventually passengers might have to be required to travel with a slab of bacon. Better this, no, than getting a humiliating pat down and revealing X-ray, both of which have been instituted precisely because of Muslims and no other group, though PC/MC thought control disallows saying so. Besides, the slab-of-bacon requirement, which admittedly I say here half in jest, would quite arguably be more effective than those damn pat downs and X-rays. After all, can't go to Muzzie heaven surrounded by pork. This is right, isn't it?

The burden which is Islam continues unchecked. This religion does terrible things to the human mind---and, of course, to non-Muslims. Ah, Islam is so obnoxious and in so many ways. Time is way overdue to recognize that Islam is an inveterate enemy of liberty. Drastic measures may ultimately have to be taken since Islam itself is so drastic across the board. There's nothing quite like Islam in the world. Damn shame it's still around.

Burn enough of these dogs at the stake and the rest will learn.

I suggest that their multicultural training should include weekly Bible studies under earnest Evangelical ministers trained in countering Islamic Da'wa. There are even a few such people who are of Southwest Asian or North African Muslim "heritage".

Of course it has nothing to do with terrorism. It has to do with jihad and praying for the enemies' destruction. Perhaps it wasn't a "threat" but simply a proclamation of victory...

You wrote " It's high time for an "Infidel Airlines."

Well, until some brilliant entrepeneur comes up with one (and where there are customers, sooner or later, surely, somebody in the USA or somewhere else will come through with the product - I suggest, perhaps, "The Flying Pig" or 'Hound of Heaven Airlines") probably the next best thing is ...El Al.

Their security measures are smarter *and* faster than the cumbersome, plodding procedures much of the Western world has adopted.

If El Al flies from your city/ country- fly El Al for increased - if not complete - peace of mind.

"At Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, screening is done in 30 minutes. The key? Look passengers in the eye".

Pursuant to my posting above.

Anybody want to speculate as to whether a guy like this would have been let onto an El Al plane, supposing he proposed to fly with them?

Kepha, you suggested "their [Muslim offenders'/ disruptors'] multicultural training should include weekly Bible studies under earnest Evangelical ministers trained in countering Islamic Da'wa."

Excellent idea. Heavy-duty 'cult deprogramming' combined with the offering of a positive alternative.

From the article - "Police said the incident began with Shahsavari arguing with another passenger. "

What *I'd* like to know is this - was that other passenger a non-Muslim? And if so - what was the 'argument' *about*?

Furthermore, I'd very much like to know who started the conversation, and who 'escalated' it.

Because it sounds to me almost like Shahsavari deliberately 'picked' a fight. You know, like the bloke who walks into a bar and deliberately gets 'in the face' of another customer.

Let's hope that this sort of info comes out in the wash.

Because surely there must be witnesses - *non-Muslim* witnesses - who heard the whole thing, right from the start, and can testify as to who started the conversation, and what was said, and who turned it *into* an argument.

You guys..............poor thing, he was just looking for the bathroom, dontcha know?

sarc off//

Its time there were different security measures for muslims and non-muslims, cultural sensitivity can go hang.

I am so sick and tired of everyone pussyfooting around. We MUST start to get extreme ourselves. There is no way to defend ourselves with this wimpy facist government we have in place. I would like to implement the system we had a 150 years ago. They would have escorted this guy right out to the nearest tree and hung him. Case closed.

I think the article was talking about the SISTER that couldn't communicate in english. That paragraph began with the topic of his siter so it should have been talking about her in the next 2 sentences.

And why do people get on a plane with muslims? There's no way to KNOW if a man is a muslim. Unless he's dressed like an imam with a beanie cap and great big beard, there's no way to know.

Also, I'd like to say that I have a lot of customers that are "iranian" but NONE of them refer to themselves as being from Iran. They ALL say they're persian. Saying their persian is their way of letting you know that they are NOT Iranian and that their country and culture has been hijacked by the muslims. If they ever refer to Iran it is simply fore geographical purposes because most people don't know where Persia is/was.

We could ask, "why do we get on planes with arabs?" but of course, that's racist and if someone is arab that doesn't make them a muslim. Every friend I have from Lebanon is catholic. Every lebanese friend of mine left Lebanon so they could freely BE catholic!

I've known 'Persians' that were full-blown musloids and militantly so. They emphasized that they called themselves Persians solely to distinguish themselves from Arabs, whom they consider to be culturally inferior. Having spent time in Iran, I found this to be the case in general.

Yet another Muslim with a "temporary mental episode"feck me,if my mother was denied sunlight due to wearing a bin bag and was endanger of having mental problems in her fifties, what chance would I have of being normal, these idiots need to be dealt with and not with a nicey nicey way but with the iron fist not in the velvet glove but on display and straight in the face, they are a menace to the 21st century, say no more.

So, this man got into an argument with another passenger, became enraged, and became verbally abusive and threatening people with death and making the jihad cry of alluah akbar (Mohammad's Allah is greater than your God)? Sounds like a Muslim supremacist frustrated that he is not being treated with privilege promised by Islam and is confident in Muslim conquest of all non-Muslims by the global jihad. If he is truly mentally ill, he should be confined to a mental hospital for a very long time. If he is just using a mental illness defense to get out of consequences for his actions, and an "episode" does not constitute a mental illness, then he should be aggressively prosecuted. He was NOT a victim here and is responsible under U.S. law for his actions, actions which constitute a federal crime, a felony.

Why do we still not have laws making jihad crimes crimes of terrorism and attempts to enforce Sharia law crimes of sedition?

“It sounded like he sort of lost control of himself,” White said....
..................................

What crap. I'm not a big fan of people who "lose it" in general—unless it is genuine mental illness, which is relatively rare—but even then it usually takes a recognizable form.

That is, a person who yells at the mother of the child who has been bawling for two hours straight to keep the kid quiet, or bangs on the restroom door when someone has been in there for a full twenty minutes, or who snaps at the flight attendant over slow service, or who gets irate and loud because the plane has been endlessly circling the runway.

These behaviors are rude and disruptive, and I am *not* defending them. But yelling "You're all going to die! Allahu Akbar!" is in an *entirely* different category.

This *is* a terrorist threat, even if the man had no bomb and no specific plan to crash the plane.

CGW wrote:

..................................

I absolutely agree, CGW. After United 93 and the Shoe Bomber and the Underwear Bomber, many Americans think "Let's Roll!" when the "Allahu Akbaring" starts.

Even though the Shoe Bomber story was pretty grim, I remember laughing out loud when I learned that passengers and crew had duct-taped Richard Reid so securely to his seat that Federal Marshals who met the plane were simply unable to remove the tape, and had to cut the Jihadi moron out of his seat.
