Obama Administration ready to negotiate with Mullah Omar

Capitulation. But who cares, right? The Twin Towers are down, already. Quit your complaining. "Washington ready to negotiate with Mullah Omar," by Dean Nelson for the Telegraph, October 28 (thanks to Wimpy):

Washington is ready to negotiate with Taliban leader Mullah Omar and now regards his involvement as crucial to the prospects for peace in Afghanistan, Hillary Clinton has said.

Her comments been taken as a significant shift in American policy from moves to divide the Taliban-led insurgency and isolate Mullah Omar, the man who sheltered Osama bin Laden as he plotted the September 11 attacks, to an acknowledgement of his leadership.

It follows the disclosure earlier this month that American officials had met leaders of the Haqqani Network, the powerful Taliban faction blamed for some of the most devastating attacks on American and Nato forces in Afghanistan, including last month's attack on the US embassy in Kabul in which seven were killed and 19 wounded.

Earlier this week the faction's commander Sirajuddin Haqqani warned Washington that only the Quetta Shura, led by Mullah Omar, could negotiate a peace deal and that his fighters would not be divided from its leadership.

In an appearance before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Mrs Clinton said the United States would continue to "fight, talk and build" in Afghanistan and Pakistan to "test whether these organisations have any willingness to negotiate in good faith"....

Afghanistan and Pakistan analyst Arif Rafiq said Mrs Clinton's comments marked a significant change. "Hillary Clinton's public statements prior to the recent Pakistan visit noted a desire to split Quetta Shura elements from Mullah Omar. I think they [now] recognise that though talks have yet to yield tangible dividends, attempts to split the Taliban have failed," he said.

No kidding, really?

"...his [Mullah Omar] involvement as crucial to the prospects for peace in Afghanistan, Hillary Clinton has said."

Indeed it is, but only if the "involvrment" process includes a Predator or Reaper drone.

Right you are, Eastview.

Hitler was pretty "crucial" to the prospects for peace in Germany sixty-five years ago, too, after all...

There'll be only one result in Afghanistan. When NATO leaves, the Taliban will take over the entire country again, aided and abetted by Pakistan. Karzai will flee, or be killed. All the western lives lost, mutilated soldiers, and money spent, will be for nothing. Absolutely nothing. Back to square one.

Hillary is one of the best friends that Pakies have in the White House. She is a wrong person for this job. Unfortunately, Obama is changing his direction to appease Talibans. The logic from the White House appears to follow the same trend set by Bush's admin - "lets not blame the Pakies, we need them".

Well, we are on the way to loosing a War to the stone aged double Xing son of beaches - aka Pakistanies.

this is actually not a bad idea. bring this guy to the table and then they should call my son who is a snipper in the marines and he will take him out!! one shot to the eye as he tells me!

Right you are johnmatt, the only thing an infidel army should be doing in an islimic country is sending muslims down to allah-de-da.

Islamophobia [ˌɪzlɑːməˈfəʊbɪə]
1. Infidel who knows too damn much about islime.

If we are negotiating with Mullah Omar then it means that the army hasn't found him or made any considerable advances on the Taliban, if they had there would be no reason to negotiate, it should be over.

If Taliban is destroyed Mullah Omar doesn't matter, and if Mullah Omar is dead then this discussion wouldn't be happening. We are essentially powerless if we can't do anything about it.

Isn't it reassuring to know that the Hillary and the Obama Administration have such an "in-depth and realistic" view of Islam??

good luck on those peace negotiates with Taliban leader Mullah Omar...i'm sure that peace in Afghanistan and Pakistan are just around the corner...just need to keep respecting Islam and Sharia and injecting a few hundred more billion$ and everthing'll turn out just as peachy as can be...yeah...

We ex-Muslims know that Islam is the exact opposite of what it claims to be.

If the russians could not take over afghanistan, the americans had no chance. Wonder how GW sleeps at night with all the innocent blood of a faw american soldiers and a hundred thousand innocent iraq and afgan people on his hands?

By golly Randy will be glad to help you with your intense question...Wonder how GW sleeps at night...

No doubt GW probably sleeps in a house, in his bedroom, in a bed, with a pillow, more than likely with the lights turned off.

Feel better now that your question is answered?

Tell your son a heartfelt "merci" for his service, from one grateful American.

The headline

"Obama Administration ready to negotiate with Mullah Omar"

is just too funny .

NATO have been doling out suitcases of cash to the Taliban leaders ( that's when they can distinquish them from a corner shop owner that is ) and now their leader is being feted by them.

How can the Taliban take this kind of punishment?

They should have mowed Afghanistan to the ground the minute the "war" started instead of messing around and playing PC games with the natives. If they had, the problem would be over or at least brought to it's knees and the West wouldn't have to suffer the humiliation of "negotiating" with the savages.

OT: Because every red-blooded American Man doesn't give a sh*t about Billary, and because we're at game 7 of a Grand American Tradition...

I really hate the Cardinals, but this World Series has to be called EPIC. Freese was grandiose.

johnmatt,

I absolutely agree with you, with one small addition: I predict the newly trained and armed Afghan Security Force will join forces with the Taliban. What a sad state of affairs indeed.

Ima

Does this mean that those pallets stacked with dollars we handed over to the Afghan "insurgents" didn't pay off? State, Defense and the CIA never were good with money. Especially when confronted with nuanced and mysterious foes like actual Moslems.

Duh.

As far as I am concerned, it is so important that America stops wasting it's lives of loved ones and money on Afghanistan. When alternative uses for them are so available.

America perhaps won't hurt too much from the Taliban once again taking over in Afghanistan, but .... Russia and China well might. Russia has large Islamic minorities in several places, most notably in the Caucasus and China has the Uighurs.

Now let China and Russia watch over Afghanistan, they are rich and powerful enough. America needs it's money desperately and really does not stand to loose so much from the Taliban in Afghanistan, certainly less than Russia and China.

Afghanistan isn't worth our soldiers lives, Karzai's Sharia government isn't significantly better anyway and your kidding yourself if you think he's an ally. When we leave Afghanistan will be divided into two IMO, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the north and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the south.

You clown! The Taliban (muslims) have murdered hundreds of thousands of Afghanis (muslims) over the years. And they continue to do so. And in Iraq, Muslims murder Muslims on a daily basis. People are frightened to go to the market to buy vegetables. Your guys even blow up mosques!

Islam is steeped in the blood of Muslims!

How do *you* sleep at night, knowing this?

"I predict the newly trained and armed Afghan Security Force will join forces with the Taliban"

Yep, I think you're probably right. Cetainly a sizeable number of them. We've paid for it and trained them as well.

The administration will not stand up to radical Muslims. Legislators feel if they appease Islam these terrorist horror killings will stop. But history proves otherwise. Islam see's kindness as a weakness history teaches us that much.

Muslims are not good neighbors (not ever) in time they will demand special rights. History will prove that as well.

Muslims always claim to be innocent. Muslims always claim they are the victim even as they are beheading a non-Muslim.

"You clown! The Taliban (muslims) have murdered hundreds of thousands of Afghanis (muslims) over the years. And they continue to do so".

Hold on there the United States, NATO, and a few other countries have tried to liberate Iraq and Afghanistan for the last ten years. Brave men have been killed trying to liberate and help nontolerant Islamic countries. Islam doesn't want non-Muslims in their countries.

If you believe any different you are the clown.

Will they meet in Paris? Great place for a peace accord. The last one did wonders for us.

I hate having to explain this, the Taliban's govt. is a PURE Islamic state that will wage jihad. If it's established instead of Karzai's then we'll have MORE WAR than we do now. It's a double edged sword. Yes, our soldiers are dying, but if we leave they could be dead for no reason at all.

What did our soldiers die for in the Middle East? They died to set up Islamic democracies with Islamic constitutions enforced by Sharia law. They were weakened and picked off by the Muslim Brotherhood's global jihad, with jihadists coming from all over the world to kill U.S. soldiers, for over ten years. Obama sent the remainder to Libya without Congressional approval to set up yet another Islamic democracy. He will send them to African countries, not to stop genocidal jihad but to "protect" Muslim conquerors who claim to want Islamic democracy. When are we going to put a stop to this and reserve our troops for defense against direct attack by the global jihad and its allies?

Mullah Omar is only alive because when we had him in our sights, we 'had to ask a lawyer if it was okay to kill him and send him to his raisins'. This tells us everything we need to know, and is the prime reason we will lose. Just imagine if we had to consult a lawyer before opening fire on German and Japanese troops 70 years ago. We'd have been conquered. Wars are meant to be fought by soldiers, sailors and airmen, and not lawyers flying a desk. There are 10,000 lawyers at the Pentagon. There ought not to be one. Nuff said. We aren't winning because from the outset we haven't fought to win. We always look for a negotiated settlement rather than victory, and that makes a war unwinnable - unless you're the enemy. The Taliban should have been history for at least five years, but here we are into an 11th year with more signs of losing than winning, and we are only two months away from spending more time in Afghanistan than what we spent defeating Hitler's and the Kaiser's Germany, Mussolini's Italy and Tojo's Japan.

Savage, it is time you were deported back to Pakistan. Those infidel-invented medicines and vaccines were clearly wasted on a filthy and incredibly stupid infidel-hating scrimshanker like yourself.

vnbushman, I'm not sure what your beef with Buraq is. He was making it clear to the appalling troll "randy" that it is not American or coalition troops indiscriminately killing Muslims, but Muslims outfits like the Taliban who have been responsible for the carnage.

This doesn't contradict anything you say.

Personally, I love Buraq's posts—and his penchant for not suffering fools gladly, but righteously naming them "Clowns!".
