Saudi prince backs cleric's bounty for abduction of Israeli soldiers for prisoner exchanges, throws in $900,000 of his own

We have called many times over the years for a sort of "Manhattan Project" for innovations toward the goal of energy independence. Imagine all of the ridiculous political and moral compromises Western countries would not make -- whether with Saudi Arabia or Libya -- if not for blackmail over oil.

An update on this story. "'Saudi prince backs cleric's bounty offer for IDF soldier'," from Reuters, October 29:

DUBAI - A member of the Saudi royal family has pledged $900,000 to a bounty offered by a prominent cleric to any Palestinian who kidnaps an IDF soldier, according to comments aired on a private TV station on Saturday.
Prince Khaled bin Talal, a brother of Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, told Daleel television over the phone that he decided to contribute to Awad al-Qarni's bounty after the Saudi cleric received death threats for offering $100,000 to capture an IDF soldier.
"Dr Awad al-Qarni said he was offering $100,000 to only take a prisoner but they responded by offering $1 million to kill Awad al-Qarni," Prince Khaled said, according to a recording of the call published on Daleel's website.
"I tell Dr. Awad al-Qarni, 'I will be in solidarity with you and pay the remaining $900,000 to take an Israeli soldier prisoner so that other prisoners can be freed,'" he added.
Qarni said on his Facebook page this week that he made the offer in response to a similar reward promised by an Israeli family for anyone who catches the person who killed one of its members in 1998, following a prisoner exchange agreement earlier this month of more than 1,000 Palestinians for the captive IDF soldier Gilad Schalit.
Qarni is well known in Saudi Arabia for his outspoken views but is not part of the official clerical establishment.

But he clearly has friends in high places.

This "prince of darkness" as well as the clerics who incite abductions, kidnapping and violence MUST be brought to justice. Failing to do so is an act of cowardice. Force is the ONLY language these vermins are able to understand. The IDF should go after the children of Satan, one by one.
And yes, we should drill..NOW!
http://crossmuslims.blogspot.com/2010/06/deserve-victory.html

Why aren't there rewards on the heads of Prince Khaled bin Talal and Awad al-Qarni?

Why aren't they on a publicly published Predator Drone list?

Can we take up a collection to put a price on their heads?

I had predicted that "the Saudi authorities soon will arrest him for inciting to hatred and spreading corruption".
I look kinda silly now, don't I? Considering that the Saudi Royals are the authorities.

:(

Immediate action should be taken against the Saudi's and the Palestinian's. Since our President is not willing to take action, our congress should immediately suspend all aid to the Palestinian's and all military sales to Saudi Arabia. Condemnation resolutions should be entered in the United Nations. The criminal behavior of these Islamic nations and people should not be tolerated. These types of actions are acts of war and should be treated as such. Israel is totally justified to respond with force.

hummmmmm, about that 900 large....would that by any chance be American money, which we traded this perp for some Saudi Arabian heavy crude ....?

...wait a minute.....hold on... I'm thinking......really hard now.....getting ready to guess.........okay.....here it is

Would the correct answer be YES....?

Muslims are not allies of any kafir. Saudi Arabia is no friend. We should have known that from years past.

Let's drill our way to energy independence and tell these two-faced barrows and their ilk what they can do with their oil and sand.

I'm going to be a bit contrarian here...

"We have called many times over the years for a sort of "Manhattan Project" for innovations toward the goal of energy independence."

The problem with the Saudis is not our dependence on their oil; it is our dependence on their dollars.

We are not dependent on their oil. We get more oil from Canada and Mexico than we get from Saudi Arabia. Further, in any crisis, the US will easily supply its strategic oil needs from Canada, Mexico, South America, and its own reserves and domestic production.

The Saudis will always be able to sell oil to Europe, China, and other emerging markets of Asia. They can buy all the US treasury bonds they want from China, which is a major holder of US bonds and which is very worried over the US trade deficit and profligate government spending.

So, there is no need for any "Manhattan Project", utilizing questionable science and even more questionable economics to provide yet another taxpayer-funded black hole to our economic productivity.

The real danger posed by Saudi Arabia is directly linked to the desire of the US to get Saudi money. The 9-11 hijackers bypassed any rational visa barriers through a US program to promote Saudi tourism in the US. The Saudis are funding mosques, college chairs, and Islamic political special interest groups. The Saudis also are economically linked with more than one ex-President. These dangers would remain even if the US did not import one gallon of Saudi oil.

The US needs, at a minimum, to strictly limit the things foreign money can buy. Foreign interests should not be able to fund lobby groups, except under very specific circumstances directly related to business. Foreign interests should be absolutely barred from political contributions. US politicians and past Presidents should have NO business dealing with foreign countries.

.........................

Well, yes and no, Ronald.

The Saudis have gotten rich off the West and its need for oil. While it is true that the United States gets most of its oil directly from Canada and Mexico, and even from domestic sources—all oil goes into the same "kitty" in terms of setting price.

It is still the West and the rest of the non-Muslim world enriching Saudi Arabia and other oil-rich Islamic hell-holes like Libya and Iran.

What would Saudi Arabia be without its unearned oil wealth? An impoverished desert of Bedouin Arabs with little recognizable industry or exports, as it was in the 1930s and before.

That is its "natural state", and what it would return to without the Infidel need for oil.

Saudi Arabia and the other Muslim OPEC countries have earned *trillions of dollars* since 1973. That much money buy a lot of Jihad.

"We are not dependent on their oil."

True enough, but....
The U.S. currently imports ca. 12 million bbl/day (not counting imports from NAFTA partners Canada and Mexico). About 1 million bbl/day comes from Saudi Arabia. If we could cut our non-NAFTA imports in half, that would mean that all the oil producers would have to reduce their production. And the Saudis, being the second-largest producer (after Russia), would have to reduce production the most. And the Saudis aren't the only ones supporting the Islamic conquest; reducing our imports would cut the incomes of several states supporting Islamic expansion.
So, how to do it?
1) Expand domestic production. We have considerable reserves in the Arctic, in the Gulf of Mexico, and in the Rockies. Let's develop them.
2) Buy more from Canada. There are large reserves still untapped in the Alberta tar-sands; and Saskatchewan looks like it has tar-sand reserves nearly as large as Alberta's.
3) Substitute natural gas where feasible -- the U.S. has huge gas reserves. It would not be difficult to power trucks, buses, and locomotives with natural gas instead of diesel.
4) Substitute electrification, not for private cars, but in rapid transit. Existing commuter rail lines can be electrified, and new commuter, subway, and light-rail lines built. The electricity can be supplied by nuclear plants.
So it doesn't take a Manhattan Project, or rocket science, just the will to use existing resources and technology.

That would be: "That much money buys a lot of Jihad."

" Let's drill our way to energy independence and tell these two faced barrows and their ilk what they can do with their oil and sand ".

Ain't gonna happen.

The communists in the " Environmental Movement ", and their political lackeys in Washington D.C., have already seen to that.

Even if there were to be a glut in the crude oil market, we don't have the capacity to refine it. Thanks to the " Environmentalists ", no refineries have been built within the U.S., in the last thirty years.

The Cubans are allowed to drill away, though.

And in bankrupt New York State, talk about " Fracking " for natural gas, has caused hysteria in some some circles.

"I wonder what it would take and how difficult it would be to destroy the Saudi oil wells."

I strongly disagree with that thought. It is totally immoral to destroy someone else's property when you have other means to defend yourself. I favor shutting off immigration to Muslims, but other than that, I wish them no harm, and certainly don't wish to be a party to any aggression against them that is not an act of self-defense.

Along those lines, though, we can certainly stop military support of Middle Eastern regimes, and allow the Saudis to fend for themselves, particularly if they allow this type of action.

Well my take is that the prince is just mixed up because he got hit on the head with one too many vollyballs.
