NAIROBI (Reuters) - The U.S. embassy in Kenya warned of a threat to American citizens in the country after Nairobi launched a cross-border operation against Islamist militants in Somalia.
The embassy in a note to U.S. citizens living in or visiting Kenya said on Saturday that reprisal attacks could be directed at "prominent Kenyan facilities and areas where foreigners are known to congregate, such as malls and night clubs."
The statement said the embassy had taken measures to limit official U.S. government travel to Kenya.
Kenya launched its boldest incursion yet into its anarchic neighbor six days ago after a wave of kidnappings against foreigners that Nairobi has blamed on the al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab militants.
The rebels have denied responsibility for the kidnappings and said Nairobi was using them as a pretext for an attack.
The rebels have warned Nairobi to withdraw from its southern strongholds or risk bringing the "flames of war" into Kenya.
Kenya can, I think, handle al-Shabaab. The tactics and results, however, won't look pretty.
I have felt for a long time that the effect of the so-called international system of justice is to severely limit the actions which societies can take to protect themselves from attack. It's obvious from the history of al-Shabaab that these are among the most vicious people in the world. They cannot be pacified. They have to be wiped out.
The more organized, civilized societies which value individual freedoms always have more to lose, and are always more subject to disruption than more primitive, tribal organizations. Sometimes you have to simply wipe out the threat. For instance, the British literally wiped out the cult of thuggee by hanging or imprisoning for life those who followed it.
Let's hope the US does not join the inevitable movement to criminalize the actions which a civilized country must take to defend its borders and its citizens.

Yes, they are vicious 'RonaldB,' but more than other muslim groups, not really. They are no different than al-Queda look at Afghanistan, the beheadings. al-Shabaab, is just making a "bloody" Islamic name for themselves (gotta win points with allah).
Can Kenya defete them? I hope so, but whether they can or not, one thing is for sure, Kenya is in for a bloody time of it. Islam commands muslims to fight the unbliever whereever they find them, especially on their boarders. This is just Islamic expansion, the ongoing war of Islam to conquer the world and make Islam supreme.

Thanks for your information, duh... I didn't know about the Lord's Army action. Another poster wrote a while back about the very poor abilities of Muslim/Middle Eastern armies, attributing it to the tribalism which negates any larger commitment to a country.
In any case, it makes my point that there is absolutely no reason to advocate the killing or harming of Muslims anywhere. Once we decide to adequately defend our society from internal attack by stopping Muslim immigration, the Muslim countries will present very little threat.
Also, the terrorist threat from the Muslim community inside the US seems to come mainly from recent immigrants. There is no reason to deny Muslim citizens their full rights. Of course, the FBI and local security agencies should be able to investigate any citizen or group while respecting their private property. In the 1960's, the Chicago police internal security unit was notorious for using their information politically and for using agents provocateurs.

All Mahoundians living in America already have their full rights politically, it's full religious rights that are the problem...Islam and sharia law cannot be separated because sharia are Allah's laws...without sharia, Islam is lawless..In order for Islam to practice full religious freedom in the US they must be allowed full sharia...But there are provisions in sharia that are already unconstitutional and against established US law...Mahoundians will do with little or no sharia, or sharia lite, on a temporary basis only...They will always push for full sharia...My suggestion to Mahoundians, is that if you want to embrace sharia, full or lite, return to a country where they practice it...you can't have it here...

Well, I agree with you and disagree with you.
You are certainly correct that Islam itself does not distinguish between personal Sharia and political Sharia. In fact, the people at LoonWatch made much of the fact that they felt the anti-Sharia laws would keep them from personal religious practices, since Islamic prayer is part of Sharia.
But, of course, this was sophistry. There is not a court in the land that would interpret an anti-Sharia law as banning religious observances, and any such interpretation would be, quite validly, found unconstitutional as quickly as the court papers could be drawn up.

The best way of maintaining non-political Islam in the United States is to cut off any further Muslim immigration. Once the number of Muslims builds up, and they begin forming self-sufficient communities, the pressure to use their own legal mechanisms, and to view outside law enforcement as hostile, increases.
I agree with you that anyone wanting to implement political Sharia should be encouraged to pursue their political agenda in other, more fertile national environments.
