Okay, so Algeria will be next to join Tunisia & Libya in going thru another Islamic revolution. This seems like the 630s, when Muslims overran all of North Africa, from Egypt to Spain. So many north African countries have become or are becoming more Islamic - N Sudan, Tunisia, Egypt Libya, later maybe N Nigeria, Algeria & Morocco.

To answer Aprilyn's question, regimes in Muslim countries like the Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Algeria, the previous regime in Tunisia do a better job in cracking down on Islamic forces than we do in the West, or even other non Western non Islamic countries, such as Philippines, India, Thailand, et al. And you are right - we should take a page out of the books of Ben Ali, Islam Karimov or Suparmurad Niyazov.

I've wondered how long it would take the winds of the Arab Spring to sweep through Algeria, the only authoritarian Muslim country in North Africa not to have succumbed so far. My sense is that this action by the Algerian government is an attempt to hold the winds at bay, but it is a stop gap measure that won't work forever. If Algeria can hold on long enough for the new governments in Libya and Egypt to collapse from their own incompetence and internal contradictions, perhaps that will give them time to reform in a more orderly way and escape falling to the jihadists. I am skeptical that it will work, though.

My only concern is this: if we don't solve the problem with Islam in our own lands (stop/reverse Muslim immigration now), the representatives elect of the managerial state might deem it necessary in the near future to emulate the example of these and other police states (we already heard of this "muscular liberalism", quite laughable now, as an obvious attempt at window dressing by establishment politicians, but that can change pretty quickly).

I can imagine that high falutin' supporters of Supersized Government would like the idea of an emboldened nanny state, using the need for intensified cracking down to enhance its powers that are already way beyond what is constitutionally acceptable.

I firmly believe that some anti-establishment politicians are invaluable as trail blazers, like Geert Wilders over here, but in the end I fear that it is up to us, the people, to rid our lands of Islam and rectify the past mistakes of our wise and well-meaning overlords.
We find ourselves in Mordor and we sure can't vote our way out of it, so we need to get the state out of the way. Destroy the "Ring" means to destroy centralized government power and solve the problem ourselves.
My fear is, however, that people will increasingly gravitate towards seeking the solution in more intervention by the welfare state. Santa Government will hunt down "terrorists" (without any mention of Islam) while nothing will be done to stop the creeping islamization of our neighbourhoods and cities. In the longer run, the agent that imported the Islamic problem in the first place will thus thrive like, indeed, the spitting image of some regime in Turkmenistan. Not my cup of tea.

You may be right but I seriously doubt it. This is the kind of approach taken by the Roman Empire against the early Christians. Didn't work then probably won't work now.

I think it is better to keep the mosques open so that it is easier for counter-jihad intelligence agencies to keep tabs on what is going on within the Muslim community. It also may make it easier to determine which mosques are armed and which aren't.

Close down the mosques and force the Islamists to go underground and it will be hard or even next to impossible for intelligence agencies to obtain the information they need. I also think that forcing the mosques underground will guarantee they will all be armed.

Getting rid of the Qur'an may not help either. From what I've heard, most of the really radical elements within Islam know it by heart anyway. Certainly the Imams do and they will pass on the Qur'an orally to the next generation who will memorize it for their posterity.

If there are 'moderate' elements within Islam in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia etc. this action will prove to them that it is the West that is the enemy not the extremists within their community.

I do agree with you about deporting Imams. Not all Imams but any who publicly even suggest violence against the West.

Outlawing Islam is not an option as far as I'm concerned but I do think that it might be possible to decertify it as a religion. That way, it will not enjoy the protections that the West accords true religions.

Doing this will not affect the practice of Islam itself for the so-called moderates (if they exist) so they may not be too offended; but it will make it easier for the law to deal with the extreme elements of Islam, once it is viewed as a socio-political ideology.
