Imam worries that arrest of NY jihad bomb plotter will spark "Islamophobia"

It's inevitable: every time there is a jihad plot, the mainstream media trots out its template for stories like this one: shocked (shocked!) neighbors explain that the accused was a decent fellow, the local mosque says that they hardly knew the guy, others explain that he wasn't really all that much of a Muslim (despite abundant evidence to the contrary in this case), and Muslims wring their hands about "Islamophobia" and an impending backlash against innocent Muslims that never ever actually materializes.

And so here we go again.

"Shock, Anguish Uptown as Neighborhood Reacts to Terrorism Arrest," by Lucy Pawle for The Uptowner, November 21:

[...] Harlem and Washington Heights neighbors who knew Pimentel, reportedly under police surveillance since 2009, said he spent his days sitting alone outside the apartment building, smoking cigarettes.

“He seemed nice,” said Simon Islam, 36, who moved into the building five months ago with his wife and daughters. “He used to talk to everyone when they came in and out the building, but he was very quiet. He just used to smoke,” Islam said.

Juan Rey, whose mother lives in the building, described Pimentel as “a nice guy who used to open the door for people when they were carrying their groceries.”

David Rodriguez, who’d known Pimentel for a year, said he “never saw the look of terrorism in him.” Expressing astonishment at the arrest, he said Pimentel “could have blown the whole building up and no one would have known“ that he was the bomber. “His own grandmother wouldn’t know.” He described Pimentel as a regular guy in sweatpants and sweaters. “I never saw him praying; he wore regular clothes,” Rodriguez said. “I just can’t believe it.”

Pimentel sometimes welcomed Islam with “As-Salamu Alaykum” – a traditional Muslim greeting – and had explained to him how he’d converted to Islam from Catholicism. “He said he converted six or seven years ago,” Islam said. “Once I was drinking here with friends and cousins, and he pointed and said, ‘No, no. It’s not good.’”

But around the corner at Nadal1Deli, employee Mohammed “Alex” Alohdd pointed out that Pimentel didn’t fast during Ramadan. “He called himself a Muslim, but he wasn’t a proper Muslim,” Alohddi said. “I’ve known him for three years but I didn’t like him that much. I just didn’t feel good with him. He used to ask people outside for cigarettes.”

At the Islamic Cultural Center of New York on East 96th Street, where Pimentel visited, according to his mother, Imam Omar Abu Namous echoed Aloddi’s sentiments. “These circumstances, that he used to come to this mosque, are only coincidences, and have no relationship whatsoever with his activities,” the imam said. He hadn’t heard of the arrest and didn’t recognize Pimentel’s name, but said that if Pimentel had confided in a fellow parishioner, “they would have informed me and I would have informed the government.”

Emphasizing his opposition to fundamentalist ideology, the imam described the Islamic Cultural Center as fostering peace. He worried that Pimentel’s arrest would spark Islamophobia. “People have a deep misunderstanding about Islam,” Abu Namous....

Indeed. Including, apparently, Pimentel (Muhammad Yusuf) himself. But Lucy Pawle did not think to ask Abu Namous what he was doing to make sure others in his mosque didn't misunderstand Islam in the same way that Muhammad Yusuf did. Such a question would have been "Islamophobic."

You don't need "Islamophobia" to trigger "Islamic radicals". All you need is a Qur'an.

If there's any "Islamophobia", it won't be due to the MSM; if anything there will be "Dominicanophobia" since the MSM articles I've seen all lead with his being from the Dominican Republic, and being an American citizen, and use his original name -- Jose Pimental. Only several paragraphs down does one find that he converted to Islam several years ago and is now Muhammad Yusuf. Notice that the Uptown article above refers to him only as Pimental. And his conversion is presented only as hearsay evidence: "he said he converted....", as though there was some doubt about this.

Attemps by Islamic radicals to kill and maim and terrorize us does NOT trigger "Islamophobia" (ie fear of Islam) in me, only Islamoloathing, Islamodigust, and Islamohatred!

Attempts by Islamic radicals to kill and maim and terrorize does NOT trigger "Islamophobia" (ie fear of Islam) in me, only Islamoloathing, Islamodigust, and Islamohatred!

sorry for the double post

I am amazed. No one who knew him, thought he could be a bomber. He is described as a nice, quiet guy. No one at the mosque thought he could be a bomber. He came in for prayers and not much else. Yet, the police and Homeland Security has been watching him for years. What did they see that those close to him could (or would) not see. Is someone trying to cover his true idententity?

Atta guess, Abu Namous-or-whatever-his-name-really-is, is lying through his teeth.

“People have a deep misunderstanding about Islam,” really?
Take a test, a simple "Islamophobia" test! Are we really islamophobes?
http://crossmuslims.blogspot.com/2010/04/are-you-islamophobe.html

Interesting how Methodists, Presbyterians, Baptists, Catholics, and let's not forget the Amish, never produce "misunderstanders" of their creed of choice. But Muslims do everyday of every week of every month of every year. Some 18,000 "misunderstanders" just since 9/11 (and this figure doesn't include those caught before they could act upon their "misunderstanding" of the peaceful and tolerant religion which is Islam). Hmmm. I can't imagine why.

thta is the logic of muslims like that. he was a nice guy! he prayed all the time!! no one thought he was a terroridt!! surprise surprise!!!

“People have a deep misunderstanding about Islam,”

The irony here is that those of us they accuse as "islamophobes" are the very folks who
DO understand--and loathe--islam for exactly what it is. Everywhere this "religion" exists it makes makes everyone--including muslims themselves--miserable! "Islamophobia?" No.
It's islamoloathia--the only conclusion to be sensibly reached on the abundance of grisly
evidence. This elephant is too big for the room to hold...

Brilliant question, "What are you doing to make sure others do not misunderstand Islam?"

Seems the American Muslims want us to believe that Islam is different in the US, that perhaps people are getting these violent tendencies from overseas through the internet. But if it's over there it's here.

With half of the terrorists coming now from the US our American imams have to do better.

"Emphasizing his opposition to fundamentalist ideology, the imam described the Islamic Cultural Center as fostering peace. He worried that Pimentel’s arrest would spark Islamophobia. “People have a deep misunderstanding about Islam,” Abu Namous...."...

Yeah, but we're beginning to understand it better...

To know islame is to loath islame.

Yep, they're all nice until they aren't, all "nice" ticking time bombs I say.

And I'll take my chances with the rise in "islamophobia". I've heard those threats before and they are just that, threats and nothing of substance from the mouths of bullies.

for the benefit of any new readers who may be lurking in here, reading over our shoulders, now or in the future.

Three classic discussions of Muslim grievance theatre and pantomime of victimhood.

First, two by a writer called 'David Thompson'.

1. It's OK to Dislike Islam

http://davidthompson.typepad.com/davidthompson/2007/03/intimidation_re.html

and 2. 'The Passive-Aggressive Jihad'

http://davidthompson.typepad.com/davidthompson/2007/03/the_passiveaggr.html

From the first of those two essays, the most powerful passage is this:

'One of the creeping, unanalysed myths of our time is that it is somehow wrong to dislike Islam, or any part thereof, and wrong to take a dim view of its tenets and demands, and wrong to take a still dimmer view of the figure who founded it. I can practically hear the distant tutting and grunts of disapproval. Poor Islam. Poor Muslims. Their beliefs are being mocked. How hurtful. How 'racist.' How terribly unfair.

'No. It's not unfair at all.

'What's unfair is a demand for unearned deference and a unilateral exemption from the testing of ideas.

'What's unfair, indeed despicable, are efforts by Islamic groups to cow dissent and stifle criticism with a well-rehearsed pantomime of victimhood and the projection of false motives.

'Pretending to be hurt in order to assert one's will over others, even violently, or to gain unreciprocated favours, or to exert control over what others may say and think, is cowardly and malign.

'Let me say that once again. It's cowardly and malign."...

Then, a brilliant piece by one 'Sultan Knish', a Jewish blogger, which was shared in a thread here only a little while ago.

'The Dangers of Legitimizing Muslim Grievances'.

From that essay, one of the many scathing passages:

"Muslim grievances are the frustration of conquerors, the broken teeth of predators who weren't allowed to feed on the world until their stomachs burst.

"All the lands they couldn't conqueror, the peoples who rebelled against their rule, the inferior civilizations that pushed them back and drove them off"...

"The fundamental Muslim grievance is that they are not in power, not just in Israel where the world has accepted their demand to be in power as a wholly moral and legitimate demand, or throughout the Muslim world where Western governments have helped bring the Islamists to power with bombs and political pressure. The fundamental grievance is that they are not in power... everywhere."

Read the whole thing. It simply blazes. It hits the nail on the head: bang! bang! bang!

Send it to everyone you know.

Some advice to the Imam:

Time was, when the KKK went after blacks, you could count on numerous white people of all persuasions to condemn such attacks. If there was black-on-white crime, you could count on numerous black people condemning it, too.

If there were a loud outcry from the Islamic pulpit and 'Ulema against terrorists and condemnation not only of the Jose Pimentels but also of the ongoing persecution of Christians in Egypt, Iraq, and Syria, and acceptance of the attempt of ex-Libyan Jews to re-establish their presence, I'd guarantee that "Islamphobia" would start sinking like a junked iron stove in water.

It's not Islamophobia if they really ARE are to get us kafirs!

Consider the many "good natured" well-liked individuals living in Germany who became disposable parts of the Nazi war machine. Parents raising children and neighbors helping neighbors all seemed perfectly fine on the surface. There was just the tiniest bit of poison in the otherwise good mix that spoiled the whole batch. There was an inability to question authority. There was a deep desire to have a sense of belonging to the wider culture. Then there was fear of becoming a victim if unwilling to take on the role of perpetrator. There was a respected church that institutionalized anti-Semitism. There were hearts and minds ruled by fear. All of the same ingredients are in place within Islam.

Surprised???

This guy truly followed a strict set of standards to attain his goals. In fact the standards of "fitting in" are sufficiently described and outlined in the al Queda manual.

I wonder how many others this "lone wolf" has opened the proverbial door for.....

Good job faithful servant of allah.

And if he hadn't been arrested, that might have resulted in a lot of dead Infidels. Not that the good Imam is likely to care about that...
