Iran fines British embassy for 'environmental vandalism' in Tehran compound
A sprawling British diplomatic compound in an upmarket north Tehran suburb is usually an oasis of green tranquillity in the midst of Iran's teeming and polluted capital....
But the Gulhak Garden, as the 200,000-square-metre site is known, is now at the centre of a row between London and Tehran which threatens to further strain relations that have long been tense. Nor are the gardens so verdant today.
The compound's British "occupiers" have been accused of environmental vandalism after they allegedly cut down and burnt more than 300 trees. Tehran municipality officials said this week they have slapped the British embassy with a US$1.23 million (Dh4.5m) fine for the "crime".
Britain insists no healthy trees were felled. But it had to remove a "small number" that died of "natural causes and become dangerously unstable" after the compound's water supply was disrupted by the extension of the Tehran Metro nearly three years ago.
The embassy has been working with the Iranian authorities, including the Tehran Municipality, "to re-establish a water supply as a matter of urgency to ensure that any environmental damage is kept to a minimum", a spokesperson for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said.
Even so, Tehran's mayor, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, announced at the end of last month that he is going to court in an attempt to reclaim the Gulhak compound. He insists the British embassy has no legal right to the prime real estate.
The compound, bordered by high walls, is home to a cemetery with the graves of more than 500 British and Commonwealth soldiers killed in the two world wars. Several British diplomats and some Iranian embassy staff are housed in the Gulhak complex, although ambassadors for decades have lived several miles away at the historic British embassy on Ferdowsi Avenue in central Tehran.
Observers suspect Mr Qalibaf may be using the Gulhak issue to boost his profile ahead of the 2013 presidential election, which he is due to contest. Baiting a former imperial power that the regime derides as the "Little Satan" could appeal to many.
"The role of the British Government in trying to destroy our national unity and territorial integrity is known to everyone," the mayor said.
Many Iranians are suspicious of Britain because it meddled in Iran in the 19th and 20th centuries. According to an old Iranian proverb, “If you trip over a pebble, you can be sure it was put there by a Briton”.
Iran still views Britain as a great power with global reach.
That flattering perception will be little consolation to Dominic Chilcott, Britain’s new ambassador to Tehran, who took up his post last month.

Update: Iran Guardians Council rubber stamps expulsion of Britain's Ambassador

TEHRAN // Iran's Guardians Council approved a parliamentary bill demanding Britain's ambassador to Tehran be expelled within two weeks, making it law, state television's website reported.
The confirmation by the council means Iran's foreign ministry now has to apply the measure.....
"After discussions, members of the Guardians Council have passed the law unanimously," the Guardians Council spokesman, Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei, said.

Precautionary principle should apply.

Assume the b*st*rds cannot be trusted, period.

Shut down the British embassy in Teheren, and bring all British citizens home.

Once they're on their way home, inform Iran that all official diplomatic relations are at an end, and expel every last Iranian diplomatic representative from the UK. Tell Iran that they will never be permitted back into Britain.

Send home to Iran all Muslims holding Iranian passports who are currently in the UK, whether they be 'tourists', 'students', 'immigrants', 'businessmen', 'clerics', 'scholars', etc. Iranian Muslim 'asylum seekers' and 'political refugees', unless they are bona fide apostates (and such will be placed on probation, even so), will be told to leave Britain and seek refuge in a Muslim country. Inform Iran that NO Muslim from Iran will be permitted to set foot on British soil henceforward.

Investigate - thoroughly - all Iranian Muslims who currently possess British residency visas or who have acquired British citizenship. Anyone with a criminal record or a clear, documented record of sharia pushing, sharia advocacy, jihad incitement, and open advocacy of destruction of Israel, 'death to Jews', etc, gets stripped of their residency or citizenship and packed off back to Iran.

And while doing all this, encourage *other* as-yet-relatively-free non-Muslim countries, in Europe and elsewhere, to do the same.

Given the very predictable Muslim habit of projecting onto others what they themselves are either doing or intend to do, I think this tells us that we may safely assume that every Iranian embassy in every non-Muslim country, is a den of spies and jihad plotters/ gang bosses and sharia pushers, working hard to do harm to the countries within which those embassies are placed.

Shutting down Iranian embassies all over the non-Muslim world and booting everyone in them back to Iran, whilst simultaneously rapidly removing one's own representatives from Iranian soil, seems to me to be the only sensible thing to do.

Oh, and any real property that the Iranian government or Iranian Muslim 'businessmen' and other entities and agencies may have bought, in Britain or elsewhere, should be confiscated. Why allow your sworn and declared enemies - who publicly declare their intent of destroying you - to buy houses or land or businesses within your territory?

Good riddance! At least the embassy staff will be safe from repercussions when the bombing begins - and the sooner the better. The Iranian clergy and its big mouthed Ahmadinejad need to be pulled into line and to think like 21st century humans instead of primitive barbarians. How long will the west put up with these fools?

Latest: the British embassy in Teheran has been invaded and is at present being destroyed by the crowd.

When planning to impose sanctions on Iran, step 1 is to remove your vulnerable citizens from Iran. The failure to do this is just one more example among a gazillion others where non-Muslims in conflict with a Muslim enemy do more to defeat themselves than the Muslim enemy alone would be capable of doing.

Isn't Iran being inconsistent in its diplomacy here?

I would have thought if it was having problems with the U.K. it would expel the Turkish embassy and threaten to take Turkish diplomatic hostages.
