An Afghan woman who said she would marry her rapist in order to get out of jail, where she was serving a 12-year sentence for having sex out of wedlock, has been freed, her lawyer said Wednesday.
Kimberly Motley, the woman's American lawyer, told NBC News that she was released from prison late Tuesday.
"Gulnaz is relieved, and trying to slowly figure out her next step," Motley said of the woman, who goes by only one name.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai pardoned her last week after she said she would marry her rapist - her cousin's husband.
In an interview with NBC News last week, Gulnaz said she had agreed to the marriage "even though I can't look at him."....

Where is she supposed to go? Mohammed set things up to keep women under mens' thumbs. How can you escape when every official is alerted to the fact that you are traveling alone, without a "keeper"?
But I shouldn't be so hard on Mohammed. After all, he brought RIGHTS to women that didn't exist before, right? I guess the fact that his first wife was an older woman who INHERITED her business and money from her dead husband and was RUNNING a company that employed him means women had no rights before him. Thank Allah he "revealed" (after she died) that "men are the maintainers of women" and gave women the "protections" ("Women, lengthen your garments") that we still see today in places like Afghanistan.

I seem to recall, I believe in Wafa Sultan's A God Who Hates, that Muhammed outlawed adoption so that he could claim his adopted son's wife for his own. Allah told him that adoption was not permitted, and so the family tie was broken to Muhammed's advantage.
The damage this has done to needy children over the centuries is incalculable.

I believe her attorney should keep the information heat turned up against the gov't of Afghanistan and get this young lady to the US where she can heal and enjoy a life of freedom. Hillary Clinton, supposedly a proponent of women's rights, needs contacted (hopefully by this woman's attorney) so she doesn't end up married to her rapist. Where would the justice be in that. Islam is a gross and perverted enslaver of women. What do you imagine happens to the women who are kept in prison and are guarded by Muslim males? Not much info being released about that.
Some "liberation" our United States of America has achieved there. "I will marry him even though I cannot look at him". Kind of reminds me of Leon Panetta irately demanding that Israel "reach out" to the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and Hezbollah. Talk about a wrong Italian rising to power in this country. And the great man, Rudy Giuliani, had survived only the 1st 10 days of the Republican primary in 2008. This was one of the most horrible blunders by American voters in history, probably even worse than that of the Democrat primary voters who rejected the great late Sen.
