State media blames al-Qaeda, and while anything from Syrian state media ought to be taken with a grain of salt, the methodology is indeed al-Qaeda's. "Suicide bombers kill 40 in Damascus, Syria says," by Erika Solomon for Reuters, December 23:
BEIRUT (Reuters) - Suicide car bombers struck Damacus on Friday, officials said, killing 40 people, gutting buildings and sending human limbs flying in the bloodiest violence to hit Syria's capital in a nine-month-old uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.
The attacks, which state media blamed on al Qaeda, targeted two Syrian security sites and came a day after the arrival of Arab League officials to prepare for a monitoring team that will check whether Assad is implementing a plan to end the bloodshed.
Assad has deployed tanks and troops to try to crush a wave of protest against his rule inspired by other Arab revolts this year. Mainly peaceful rallies are now increasingly eclipsed by an armed insurgency against his military and security apparatus.
But Friday's blasts in central Damascus signaled a dramatic new escalation in violence, which Syrian authorities blame on armed groups they say have killed 2,000 soldiers and security force members since popular unrest broke out in March.
State television said over 150 people were wounded by the explosions. It broadcast footage of mangled bodies being carried in blankets and stretchers into ambulances with sirens wailing.
Television footage also showed bloodied streets littered with human remains, blackened car wrecks and other debris, as well as a row of corpses wrapped in sheets laid along a street.
State television said the attackers zeroed in on a state security administration building and a local security branch.
Syria has generally barred foreign media from the country, making it hard to verify accounts of events from either side....
The Syrian Muslim army is attacking the Syrian Muslim protesters with Planes, tanks, machineguns and soldiers and the various Muslim militant groups are fighting back with bombs, guns, and molotov cocktails...Amid this chaos both sides chant "Allahu Akbar"...
Clearly Islam is in control...
No surprise that Syria is next to fall into the hands of an Islamic fundamentalist party. However, other than the violence that has already occured, little or no future blood will be shed. Syria will gift wrap her relinquisment of power to The Muslim Brotherhood and deliver it on demand.
For the Baath regime, al Qaeda is the code for any Sunni organization, but they are not far wrong. Like in Egypt, the main opposition to the regime is going to come from the Muslim Brotherhood. Only difference - in Egypt, it was not a non-Sunni regime getting overthrown, but in this case, it is.
It would be too good if the victims of this blast included members of Hizbullah or Pali Islamic Jihad. Or even PFLP.
It's a bloodBaath! But one day, Assad will be sodomized by his captors, just like Gadhaffi was.
Yes, and it's extremely likely that when it's all over there will be a Syrian muslim government run by syrian muslim extremists unfortunately. The only thing bothering me quite frankly. is how safe the syrian Christians are; otherwise the place can go to hell in a handcart like the rest of those muslim failed states in the area.
hmmmm...comments I recently reviewed on other sites have been accusing the Syrian government of bombing their own people....other comments accuse the Israelis...others accuse the CIA...
No one mentions Islam or the love of death that Muslims possess...Islam is in a constant power vacuum. Muslims kill each other so that Islam reigns supreme...You just have to be Muslim enough to win...
1400 years have gone by since a simple caravan robber invented a religion and no Muslim has yet won...Muslims must constantly look over their shoulder to see if other Muslims are coming.
You may be a Muslim...but you will never be Muslim enough..
Might have been army defectors who are armed to the teeth. I think it was ABC that followed some of them around one night. If it WAS them, then they're ramping up their resistance to the regime. Could have been anyone in that part of the world though.
Coordinated suicide bombings kill at least 40 in Damascus.
They'll get 'er straightened out sooner or later, probably the latter.
They coordinated in Iraq yesterday and Syria today, in a discoordination game,
Game theory for Moslems must be explosively random, for them it's all the same.
Kill Infidels, each other, themselves; old Mo's little helpers, bomb wielding elves,
With bones to pick at, on grievances so many, ho ho ho kid gloves on the shelves.

Just look at that "religion of peace" in action!
And Merry Christmas Dougie Hooper, pathetic convert to the Religion of Hate - Islam. You need your head examined, hope you do that in 2012. And take your good buddy Omar Ahmad with you, who's so famously said:
"In 1998 Omar Ahmad, CAIR's co-founder and longtime Board Chairman, said: "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth."
You two are sick. You need help. Get some.
All this turmoil in Middle East clearly confirms, at least to me" that "ISLAM IS A RELIGION OF PEACE" We should stay out of there and help ISRAEL 100%. They will blame Israel and USA whatever happens anyhow. I wonder why Turkey is not sending any "FLOTILLA" to help his muslim brothers in need in all those MUSLIM countries.
If Syria news says 40 died in the bombing, it means 80 when it was done by the[ Al tho'war ] up risers and if the killing done by the government then the count of the killed are only 10
The news of Syrian TV is nothing but a propaganda to serve their cause.
No mercy has been shown by both sides …
Driving back from Edleb where the most of the fighting is going on, to Aleppo, I have seen bombed van just happen with blood and body parts every where. we had to take up the mountain in a narrow road …we were chased by the few Al tho'war to try to steel our car away …we were stopped and identified as only peaceful travelers with the private car not a car owned by the government …later I found out that cars owned by the government are taken by the opposing men to use for their fight against the al Shbeeha [the name of the army men] …it was a terrifying moments ….. check points were hard to dial with... we were searched every few 15 min ….
I hold no real hope for big change in Syria Even if Bashar stepped down and he will according to the last news before I left …
they are all from the same mold …Damactacy does not come easy ….real democracy need real democratic people to implanted it …it does not come in a box …it cannot be bought …it is an understanding that comes in process and change in kind of thinking.
Al tho'war have no definite political genius that is waiting to take over when I asked one of the supporters '' what if the new president is not much better?'', he said '' anyone IS better'' as you can see there is no real, strong plans for good change …the fate of Syria is in the air and all I can say is I hope with all my heart the killing sprees will stop and the defiant change of government is some what with out the shed of blood.
Pray for the innocent Christians trapped in this islamic hellhole.
Who's next?
I wonder if the situation in Syria is too complicated for even the Israelis to figure out?
Dictator Syria falling to the "Arab Spring" of islam.
How they just drool over islam.
