Egypt: Salafist fatwa says women can't wear high heels outside the house

These are the guys who got up to 30 percent of the vote, depending on estimates. A democracy is only as good as the values that inform its participants. "Egyptian Salafi clerics issue spat of controversial fatwas," from Al-Arabiya, December 6:

The recent emergence of the hardline Salafi trend in Egypt after the January 25 revolution has given way to a series of controversial fatwas that mainly focused on women, Copts, culture and democracy.

Preacher Mustafa al-Adawi issued a fatwa prohibiting Muslim women from wearing high heels because they are a source of seduction for men.

“A woman can only wear high heels for her husband but she is not to do so outside her house,” he said.

Another cleric, Sheikh Mahmoud Amer, had issued a fatwa prohibiting Muslims from voting for Coptic candidates or their Muslim counterparts who do not pray on regular basis.

“It is forbidden by Islam to vote for them and whoever does that will be committing a grave sin,” he said.

Amer and other Salafi clerics opposed the Egyptian revolution and declared that rebelling against the ruler is forbidden in Islam.

Other controversial statements were issued by prominent Salafi and parliamentary candidate Abdel Moneim al-Shahat who said that democracy is a form of apostasy and categorized the works of Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz as “atheist literature.”

These statements were met with a lot of resentment by Egyptian intellectuals and men of letters who warned of the dangers of such extremist ideologies on Egyptian culture and the awareness of the Egyptian people.

In the same vein, Salafi cleric and potential presidential candidate Sheikh Hazem Salah Abu Ismail said he is against mingling of the sexes in public places.

Despite their rejection of the idea of democracy, several Salafi clerics were quick to join the political scene after the fall of the regime and one of their parties, al-Nour, scored unexpected results in the first stage of the country’s first post-Mubarak parliamentary elections....

It's the way to take power for now, and therefore, it is acceptable -- for now.

hmnnn..... so why are not all the cast members of All American Muslim and other "moderate" Muslim organizations protesting this limiting of women's rights and voter's free choice? I guess they're just too busy forcing high schooler football players in Dearborn to practice at night for Ramadan... and proving how "American" they are. Every other immigrant group always protested about injustices in their homeland, no?

The inexorable trend towards an Islamic Sharia Republic like Iran continues and will actually be worse. In Iran, freedom for young people means going to Bobby Sand's Hamburger joint and wearing some western clothes, talking with the opposite sex, wearing make-up, etc. This is a rather dim view of freedom but suffices for slaves.
The ancient Greeks considered a person who could not speak his own mind a slave. All muslims are slaves, albeit with a well-defined pecking order.
Religions don't kill apostates or leave-takers but cults do.

Islamic cleric bans women from touching bananas, cucumbers for sexual resemblance

CAIRO: An Islamic cleric residing in Europe said that women should not be close to bananas or cucumbers, in order to avoid any “sexual thoughts.”

The unnamed sheikh, who was featured in an article on el-Senousa news, was quoted saying that if women wish to eat these food items, a third party, preferably a male related to them such as their a father or husband, should cut the items into small pieces and serve.

He said that these fruits and vegetables “resemble the male penis” and hence could arouse women or “make them think of sex.”

He also added carrots and zucchini to the list of forbidden foods for women.

The worst of sins is obviously not following Tawhid. (i.e., the idea that there is no God but Allah) Tawhid as expressed in the Qur'an falls essentially into three categories:

1. Tawhid al-Roobubiyyah (The Tawhid of Lordship, i.e., saying Allah is the Lord and God)

2. Tawhid al-Asmaa wal Sifaat (Tawhid of the attributes and characterizations of Allah)

3. Tawhid al-Uloohiyyah (which is the Tawhid of worshipping Allah)

Thus, if one category is not practiced then Allah's Tawhid isn't enforced. The Salafis argue on fine ground that among the qualifications of Tawhid al Uloohiyah is that one must "judge" by the Islamic Sharia based on Qur'anic verses commanding Muslims to do so. (cf: 5:49, 12:40, 45:18) Obviously the Islamic Sharia doesn't begin with the Qur'an and end with the Qur'an, the Sunnah also holds significance. In other words the Ahadith (narrations and reports) attributed to the Prophet and his (i.e., the Prophet's) actions and attributes. In other words emulation of the Prophet (as Sunnah means "emulation") and the judgement of the Quranic commandments is the best of deeds in the eyes of the Salafis who believe that Tawhid al-Uloohiyyah is thus being shirked due to the restriction of Muslims not being able to "judge by what Allah has revealed".

That's basically the reason why they are participating in the elections, although they don't believe in Democracy because it is not adopting the "Legislation of Allah", they can use it within their means to promote the establishment of it.

You know, when I read things like this, I'm at first led to believe that Islam is just one overly long stand-up comic routine, and unfunny one-liners like Preacher Mustafa al-Adawi are follow-ups to Jerry Seinfeld or George Carlin. "What is it with WOMEN?" or "I'm your hippy-dippy Arab Springer man...."

Is this what we can expect in America if the current trend of increases of numbers of Muslims in the Western world continues? God save America ;-)!

no cucumbers, no bananas, no squash, no carrots...we will get vitamin deficiency which will increase the blindness of tolerant Americans of their Jihadists neighbors who have only disrespect for them, while liking the money that they can get here.

1.) Fatwa saying it was ok to kidnap and sexually assault
kuffar women.

2.) Fatwa saying no suggestive cucumbers allowed.

3.) Fatwa saying it was pious to have sex with underage
girls.

4.) Fatwa saying that high-heels are haram, except at home.

David, you're right about the crazy Fatwas.

There is a general theme, though—a combination of the most oppressive and restrictive crushing of anything that is publicly "sexy" or conceivably arousing for women—no matter how innocent—combined with the most appalling license for Muslim men when it comes to abducting and raping Infidel women or little girls.

God, I hate Islam.
