Action Alert: High school students forced to listen to Islamic supremacist Reza Aslan

Aslan2011.jpgSpreading hate and lies to captive audiences

Please contact Mercersburg Academy, a coed boarding high school in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania; this Monday, December 12, Islamic supremacist Reza Aslan is delivering the "Schaff Lecture on Ethics and Morals" -- a unfortunate choice, given the intellectually dishonest and deceptive Aslan's demonstrably unethical behavior over the years.

Even worse, the lecture notice says: "This is a required event for Mercersburg students and faculty."

One of the most unfortunate aspects of the politically correct straitjacket that binds contemporary public discourse is that deceitful mediocrities and intellectual flotsam and jetsam like Reza Aslan, who aren't capable of independent thought or of defending their own positions except with lies and scorn, are lauded and lionized by the clueless and compromised elites, solely because they parrot currently fashionable opinions.

Aslan poses as a modern, moderate Muslim, and fools many; in reality, however, he is a Board member of the president of the George Soros-funded National Iranian American Council (NIAC), a powerful Iranian lobbying group in Washington. Arash Irandoost of the Pro-Democracy Movement of Iran calls NIAC chief Trita Parsi "an intellectually dishonest regime apologist and an unofficial and unregistered lobbyist for the Iranian regime." According to Irandoost, "Trita Parsi contributes to the regime's agenda and serves the interests of those in power in the Islamic Republic of Iran, not the Iranians, nor the Iranian-Americans."

And the Progressive American-Iranian Committee says that when NIAC received funding for various projects from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), "NIAC's projects were approved and welcomed by the Iranian regime." NIAC coordinated its work inside Iran with Hamyaran, a "government initiated agency incepted [sic], initiated, founded and managed by the Iranian regime." NIAC even lobbied the U.S. Congress to "stop appropriating funds for independent democratic movements and NGOs that were not under Hamyaran or regime's control."

It is no surprise in light of Aslan's NIAC connection that he has tried to pass off Iran's genocidally-minded President Ahmadinejad as a liberal reformer. He has called on the U.S. Government to negotiate with Ahmadinejad himself, as well as with Hamas -- that is, with two of the most barbaric and murderous adherents of Sharia.

Aslan has even praised the jihad terror group Hizballah as "the most dynamic political and social organization in Lebanon," as well as the Jew-hating, women-hating, kuffar-hating Muslim Brotherhood, which is dedicated in its own words to "eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within." Aslan wrote: "The Muslim Brotherhood will have a significant role to play in post-Mubarak Egypt. And that is good thing." If, in 1932, someone had written that "the National Socialist Party will have a significant role to play in post-Weimar Germany, and that is a good thing," he would have rightly been called a Nazi sympathizer.

Aslan has also spoken at events sponsored by the Muslim Students Association, a Brotherhood group, and at an event co-sponsored by the Los Angeles chapter of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), and moderated by the notorious Edina Lekovic, the Muslim Public Affairs Council flack whom Steve Emerson caught lying on national television, denying she was editor of a Muslim student publication that praised Osama bin Laden as a great mujahid. Emerson produced copies of the rag showing Lekovic's name on the masthead as editor on the very same page on which the praise for Osama appeared.

Why should the students of Mercersburg Academy be forced to listen to this lying Islamic supremacist? Please contact Mercersburg's Head of School, Douglas Hale, and politely and courteously ask him either to cancel the Aslan lecture or to allow equal time to a speaker with a pro-freedom perspective. I am confident that if Mercersburg Academy officials had known about Aslan's abject inability to defend his positions intellectually and his many ties to jihadists and Islamic supremacists, they would never have scheduled him to speak in the first place.

You got the alert out a bit late Robert. School is closed on the weekend and Aslan is scheduled to speak on Monday. There's simply no time to mount a pressure campaign.

Liberals tell kids the darndest things...The first example I saw of that was when I worked in the childrens center at a Cal State hospital...On the adult side was a psychotic individual who called himself 'Jesus Christ Satan', and wore dresses...He could articulate an interesting but clearly psychotic religious story...(Not Islamic, but every bit as psychotic)...

Liberal social workers arranged for him to give a speech to an assembly of all the children...Attendance, unless the child was locked up for disciplinary reasons, was 'required'...I don't think the mentally incapacitated children got much out of it, but there were snickers and giggles from staff members...No one knew the purpose of this, and the responsible social workers were unable to be reached for comment...

It's not too late to reach Douglas Hale...He needs to know about the psychotic in the dress...

One thousand outraged parents demonstrating in front of the school (on public property) in addition to flooding the administration staff's email in-boxes, would rattle this Hale character's cage. This muslim side-show becomes more creepy every day.

That is what my email did....I suggested they at least allow someone to contest Azlan's propaganda.

Oh my God!

The US clown & taqiyyah(3:28) "master" Reza Aslan

Quote of pious Muslim Brotherhood (cf. Qur’an 48:28, 3:189, 9:33, 8:39, 2:193 and 61:9)

ISLAM WILL CONQUEROR (61:9) & DOMINATE THE WORLD
(2:193; 8:39; 9:33)

Omar Ahmad, the founder of the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said in a controversial interview:

"Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other religions, BUT TO BECOME DOMINANT.

The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture,
should be the highest authority in America,
and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth."

WorldNetDaily , p. 129 "ISLAM is of THE DEVIL" by Dr. Terry Jones

Reza Aslan has slammed those of us against the mega mosque at ground zero

He has slammed the Stop Islamization of America(SOIA) and called for a backlash against it.

He argues that there are no radical mosques in the US and and slams anyone who professes that they exist.

Reza Aslan and slumlord Iman Rauf have spoken on campuses like UCLA and Pepperdine to closed audiences.

Reza Aslan insists that Irans Mullahocracy is not irrational and has no intention of using nuclear weapons-- apparently Mahmoud Amaddingjob is a western illusion.

Reza Aslan argues there is definitley no connection between Jihadists and Islam.

Robert and co.:

I will dissect his book that I just gleefully received, after I have done my personal duties. Then I will write a scholarly refutation of his book recommending that the teachers of this school cancel the event. God Willing.

I hope this victory is a victory for intellectual integrity!

I think it is not correct to demand that the speaker be canceled.

Insist that attendance be optional, that is that it not reflect on grades or result in discipline.
Otherwise insist that competent rebuttal immediately follow (voluntary attendance), while preserving the objection to the compulsory attendance.

I would expect that neither of these requests would be granted.

Therefore, assure that the talk be recorded/videoed.
To which someone could prepare a rebuttal video, and in this modern age, to post online. This would address the content.

The primary issue is not that he is speaking but that it is apparently mandatory.

When I would go listen to a college speaker like Buckminster Fuller it was clearly and obviously voluntary, though well attended.

The legal buzzword is "captive audience." Here I would guess that it is to give the illusion of support not only for the speaker's freedom to speak (which a demand to cancel would deny) but more ominously the illusion of support for the content of the speaker's words.

Such illusion of support (facing the fear of death for apostasy from Islam) for Islamic totalitarianism is why so many non-Muslim Muslims appear to be pious rather than just captives in a worldwide Islamic prison camp.

The way to object to the compulsory attendance is for a student to boycott it, openly, and invite school sanctions. Then challenge the imposition of sanctions (and the cost to the school). The boycotter could likely stand somewhere in the vicinity of the event and hold a sign and/or have a flier to hand out to those attending.
What would you put on a one-page flier?

If I were to object to a government restriction on my political speech on some street corner I have to go speak, get arrested or cited, then object in court to the sanction. The same thing can be achieved by students here only by boycotting -- because of the compulsion to attend. "Because 1) punishment resembles something akin to apostasy; and 2) resembles pious Islamists who want to punish non-Muslim Muslims who fail to show up for prayers to chant about the evils of unbelief and to wish harm upon unbelievers."

Isolate first and primarily on the compulsion. What is the text that a pious Islamist would cite to compel another Muslim to attend prayers?

Dear Mr. Spencer,

I am originally from the Mercersburg, PA area and find this very disturbing. I contacted my Family as soon as I read your article. No one knew anything about it which led me to believe that nothing is being reported on it in the local media. I contacted the local newspaper there which is the Public Opinion and a few local Radio Stations to ask them to follow this story. The Public Opinion has a Face Book page so I ask that anyone who reads this comment to also post there as well as contacting the Mercersburg Academy. I looked up the Mercersburg Academy website and it has information on the Lecture which is called “The Youth Revolution in the Middle East.” What is frightening to me is that I hear about this kind of stuff going on in the bigger cities, but never thought it would go on in an area such as this one. I truly pray that enough people will contact this School Official and educate him on who this person really is and what he stands for. I thank you for bringing out this information and I will help in anyway I can to have this Lecture ceased. I have a Family member who works at the Academy and He was not aware of who Reza Aslan was or what he believes in. Please advise the readers to contact the Public Opinion as well so that this story will be followed. Thank you for this information. I will continue to get the word out. http://www.mercersburg.edu/podium/default.aspx?t=204&nid=604897 website for the Mercersburg Academy and the website for the local newspaper is http://www.publicopiniononline.com/

Subject: Reza Aslan a shill for the Islamic Rebublic of Iran speaking at your site‏

Please reconsider having this speaker who is an advocate for the Republic of Iran. In the republic of Iran every Friday they chant "Death to America".

I don't believe our children should be hearing the lies of such people.

At least, have the decency to also have someone that will present an alternate point of view.

Regards,

"What is the text that a pious Islamist would cite to compel another Muslim to attend prayers?"

I suppose they could try-

Abu Huraira R.A.A. narrated that the Messenger of Allah said "The heaviest salat for the hypocrite is that of Isha'a and Fajr and if they knew what was in them they would have attended them even if it meant crawling, and I have a strong desire to order the salat to be established, then order a man to lead the people in salat then I would go with some men carrying bundles of wood to a people not attending the salat and burn their houses on them."

I believe this is Sahi Muslim's version.

Thanks dhimmiwit for the reference to sanctions for failure to go pray.

Perhaps the students could read the following two cases, and get their own ideas about creative expression, such as black armbands.

Bethel School Dist. No. 403 v. Fraser, 478 US 675 (1986)

Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School Dist., 393 US 503 (1969)

Wearing some depiction of Mohammad or Allah emblazoned onto a t-shirt might stimulate a discussion of free speech and the suppression of the idea of Everybody Draw Mohammad Day. They could explore why it is that Molly Norris had to disappear (who?). And explore why Hillary Clinton might yield to the OIC so as to make even these students disappear if they should dare speak at all (even only slightly unapprovingly) about Islam. (And perhaps now, forced to listen rather than ignore.)

(What does it mean to disappear? Search on "The Disappeared" Argentina. Evil has existed in the past. It is not all Islamic. It is a feature of the human nature, and must be consciously and openly restrained.)

How Reza Aslan whitewashes Muhammad's caravan raids

First, notice how Aslan, on pages 82 and 83 of his book No god but God, makes Muhammad's caravan raids look bloodless:

By declaring Yathrib a sanctuary city, Muhammad was deliberately challenging Mecca's religious and economic hegemony over the Peninsula. And just to make sure the Quraysh got the message, he sent his followers out into the desert to take part in the time-honored Arab tradition of caravan raiding.

In pre-Islamic Arabia, caravan raiding was a legitimate means for small clans to benefit from the wealth of larger ones. It was in no way considered stealing, and as long as no violence occurred and no blood was shed, there was no need for retribution. The raiding party would quickly descend on a caravan -- usually at its rear -- and carry off whatever they could get their hands on before being discovered. These periodic raids were certainly a nuisance for the caravan leaders, but in general they were considered part of the innate hazards of transporting large amounts of goods through a vast and unprotected desert.

Though small and sporadic at first, Muhammad's raids not only provided the Ummah with desperately needed income, they also effectively disrupted the trade flowing in and out of Mecca...

Why does Reza Aslan make no mention of what core Islamic texts say about those raids, for example, what happened at Nakhla, where for the first time Muslims succeeded in finding a caravan to target? See page 287 (425 in the Arabic) of the earliest Muslim biography of Muhammad:
They [the Muslim raiders] encouraged each other, and decided to kill as many as they could of them and take what they had. Waqid [one of the Muslim raiders] shot Amr bin al-Hadrami [one of the caravan's leaders] with an arrow and killed him...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

How Reza Aslan misleads about Muhammad's marriage to 9-year-old Aisha

Notice how Aslan, on pages 64 and 65 of his book No god but God claims that Muhammad did not consummate his marriage to Aisha when she was 9:

...Aisha...was nine years old when betrothed to the Prophet...And while Muhammad's union with a nine-year-old girl may be shocking to our modern sensibilities, his betrothal to Aisha was just that: a betrothal. Aisha did not consummate her marriage to Muhammad until after reaching puberty...

Why doesn't Aslan mention what the core Islamic texts tell us?

From Sahih al-Bukhari, the most canonical hadith collection:

Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 62, Number 64:

Narrated 'Aisha:

that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).

Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 62, Number 65:

Narrated 'Aisha:

that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old. Hisham said: I have been informed that 'Aisha remained with the Prophet for nine years (i.e. till his death)."

Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 62, Number 88:

Narrated 'Ursa:

The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with 'Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death).

Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 58, Number 236:

Narrated Hisham's father:

Khadija died three years before the Prophet departed to Medina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married 'Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consumed that marriage when she was nine years old.

-------------------------------------

Many other core Islamic texts could be quoted in a similar vein.

It should be noted that Aisha was nine lunar years old. Since a lunar year is about 355 days, Aisha may actually have been as much as several months short of her ninth birthday.

Reza Aslan is untrustworthy, at best.

My e-mail to Mr. Hale:

Mr. Douglas Hale
Head of School
Mercersburg Academy
Mercersburg, PA

Dear Mr. Hale,

I became aware today, through media sources, that your institution
intends to entertain one Reza Aslan as a featured speaker. This is
not problematic as such, as Mr. Aslan is entitled to his free-speech
rights as are we all. But, if the story is accurate, there are some troublesome
elements here that should concern any American citizen. To wit:

1. Mr. Aslan is a self-styled agent, working on behalf of the virulently
Anti-American, Iranian Regime. He has made statements regarding this
regime that are questionable at best and could be (and are) considered mendacious
at worst. Additionally, he has made statements in support of organizations
that are included on our government’s official terror-list. This is a man
with an agenda—an agenda that does not represent the best interests of
this country, its citizens, and most particularly, our impressionable young
people.

2. If the media report is correct, you have chosen to make this a mandatory-
attendance event. May I suggest you reconsider this? Making this a requirement implies that you support this speaker’s questionable agenda—by
forcing your students to hear it. The irony here is that Mr. Aslan speaks for
interests for whom force is not merely an alternative but an imperative. You
may want to consider the unfortunate parallel to be drawn by concerned
citizens from your actions. Is this man's agenda indeed what you support? Is this really how you wish to be perceived?

One further suggestion, if I may: If you insist on going-forward with your
presentation, under your present terms, then it is only fair that you invite
a speaker on the opposite side of Mr. Aslan’s views, imposing the same
mandatory conditions. Educated and concerned Americans, people who value the truth, should
also have the opportunity to be heard by your students. You owe this to your
students and to the reputation of your institution for fairness and academic
integrity.

I hope you will consider this as it is intended; a respectful request from a concerned citizen. Thank you for your consideration.

Yours,

I sent a polite letter to Hale giving evidence against Aslan and asking that he be canceled or that another speaker (I listed Steve Emerson, Andrew Bostom, Robert Spencer, Bat Ye'or, or Mark Durie) be invited also.

Good letter George. Very respectful and articulate.

Good letter George. Very respectful and articulate.

Thanks, guys. I hope his mailbox is overflowing on Monday morning...

Not to worry. Relax. American teenagers don't listen to old people and don't remember anything they say.

Good job Traeh. This kind of documentation is precisely what is needed when confronting dissimulators.

This was sent to many senators and Schools Board of Regents.

Dear Mr. Hale, I echo Mr. Imani's sentiment on Reza Aslan. As much as we are for free speech, your affiliation with a known Islamic Republic apologist indeed warrants a closer examination. There are many other Islam experts who can discuss issues related to Islam in an unbiased and scientific manner. Aslan is not one such expert.

According to H.R. 1905 that was recently passed by Congress and an amendment to it proposed by Senators Mark Kirk and Menendez and voted 100-0 in the Senate just last week (H.R. 1905 imposes strictest sanctions against the criminal and rapist regime in Iran that has surpassed China on human rights violations), organizations such as the Alavi Foundation (shut down by FBI), the Parsa Foundation (NIAC's major donor-shut down 2 months ago by founding members) and NIAC known for its lobby on behalf of the Islamic Republic and their respective Board members including Reza Aslan will be in violation of the federal law. Currently President Obama has asked for 5 months delay on the resolution, but there are efforts under way to remove that waiver.

I would appreciate you sharing this with your Board of Regents, since I do not have their email addresses.

Sincerely,
Dr. Arash Irandoost, Founder, PDMI

"Even worse, the lecture notice says: "This is a required event for Mercersburg students and faculty.""

Are the Mercersburg students likewise required to study current Islamic events regarding Islam's persecution of Non-Muslims in many countries...or Islam's atrocities being committed upon non-Muslims in many countries...or of Islam's outlook and activities regarding womens' rights?

Has the school ever invited a person to speak who knows about the Islamic agenda and who can truthfully explain how Islam really works?...

Have the students been required to read the evil book...the Qur'an?

Do the student know anything about Islam and Mohammad?...

It's time they started learning...

I sent an Email to the school...

I told the School Head to read the Koran before inviting someone to lecture kids on anything from the "Peace Loving, Discriminated, Suppressed, and America Loving" Muslim Community.

Wouldn't it be nice if all school libraries - public schools, and private schools run by non-Islamic entities - contained copies of "The Complete Infidel's Guide to the Koran" and "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and the Crusades"? Oh, and disks of 'Submission' and 'Fitna', both of which are short enough - and arresting enough, verbally and visually - to grab the attention of Generation Iphone.

And wouldn't it be nice if, say, Mr Spencer and Mr Bosch Fawstin were able to do a joint presentation to the students at Mercersburg Academy?

Mr Spencer to do the talking - Islam, jihad, sharia, the dhimma, and how Sharia Creep works - and Mr Fawstin - having first told the story of how he was brought up as a Muslim and then, as an intelligent teenager, apostasised from Islam and had to flee and hide **even within America** in order to save his life - could point up Mr Spencer's talk with lightning sketches on the blackboard or whiteboard.

Imagine Mr Fawstin helping explain to the teenagers that in an Islamic state there is supposed to be: NO alcohol; NO pet dogs; NO drawing pictures of living beings; NO sculptures; NO church bells ringing; NO music; and that Dirty Old Men are allowed to marry - and take to bed, and have sex with - little girls of nine who haven't even started their periods... And that if you criticise Islam in any way at all, you're supposed to be KILLED DEAD...and if you want to leave Islam and believe something different, or be an atheist, then, too, you're supposed to be KILLED DEAD.

I think Mr Spencer and Mr Fawstin, given the opportunity, might be able to get the attention of halfway intelligent non-Muslim teenagers.
