As elections in Egypt continue, Western politicians and Western media assure us of one thing: that Egyptians can finally vote is great “progress.”
But is the mere right and act of voting a valid sign of “progress”? No, at root, democracy is a mode of governance that simply empowers the people. True “progress” is gauged by what these people do with their empowerment—the civilization they create, the codes they institute.
Consider this picture: on the right is a painting of an Egyptian woman, as women appeared some three thousand years before the invasion of Islam, when Egypt was among the first of civilizations; on the left is a typical Egyptian woman of today, a product of Arab-Islamic civilization.
Far from “romanticizing” the past, these juxtaposed portraits, separated by nearly 5,000 years, make a valid point. As many historians agree, ancient Egyptian women were “liberated” by antiquity’s standards. Today, on the other hand, not only are Muslim women in Egypt kept “under wraps,” but, indoctrinated by the words of their prophet, they maintain that “women are deficient in intelligence.”
So, euphemisms and semantics aside—“democracy,” ‘elections,” “voting”—is Egypt progressing or regressing in time?
In fact, with each passing decade, it has been regressing, bit by bit; and now that the people have spoken—empowering the Muslim Brotherhood and their Salafi henchmen—Egypt prepares to plummet headlong into a new dark age of primitivism.
I wish I could post a picture here but the difference between the modern Egyptian woman and the woman of just 50 years back is tremendous. If you google 'Wives of the Shah of Iran, his first wife was an Egyptian princess, the sister of King Farouk. She looked like Rita Hayworth. Beautiful and I believe still alive. What a shame Egypt has regressed so much.
The options open to the Egyptian public have been dismal. Their choices have been a corrupt monarchy, corrupt strongman rule, or MB/Salafist rule, which, given how things go in that part of the world, will probably end up horribly corrupt as well as violent.
I can't say I miss the Mubarak regime. It took oodles and oodles of money from the American taxpayer, but its state-controlled media dripped with anti-American invective (to say nothing of anti-Jewish, anti-Israeli, and anti-Kufr-in-general invective). It bet on turning Salafist rage against the Copts, and ended up falling to it while making a mockery of equal rights for Egypt's Christians (and let no-one forget that Mubarak didn't make a single step towards reimbursing the Jews who were kicked out of Egypt--a land they'd lived in before the first Arab ever set foot in it--by Nasser).
But, who knows? China's thinking classes were enthusiastic about Mao in the 1940's, and many hoped to see the "incubus" of Christianity expelled completely from China in those days. Now, the Left-wing intellectuals of the 1940's are dead, victims of the hyper-suspicious Mao Zedong whom their own enthusiasm swept into power, and China probably has more Christians than Europe. Maybe a period of Islamic rule and big mistakes will end with Islam itself being the big loser, in that its identification with a failing, self-destructive regime will discredit it.
BTW, bringing up the plight of women in the Islamic world is not going to cut the mustard with me. I'm old enough to remember the chador-clad harridans and vixens of Iran screaming "Marg-bar-AmrikA!" in well-orchestrated demonstrations. In the West, apart from equal pay for equal work, organized feminism has ever been part and parcel of the slow-motion suicide (whether spiritual, intellectual, or demographic) of the West. As far as I can tell, organized Western feminism's response to the 9/11 attacks has been to keep up its unrelenting assault on Christian "patriarchy", while giving Islamic misogyny a pass, since Muslims are also part of the "oppressed 99%". I also recall how all seven Afghan feminists were dug up and paraded around US college campuses in the wake of 9/11 to tell everyone how mean the Talibs were--as part of the justification for an ill-advised adventure.
Besides, I understand that Egypt is one of the leading countries for battered husbands. Something tells me that Muslim women don't need the dying chivalric tradition of the West to protect them.
Greetings:
In watching the USofA media's coverage of the voting in Egypt, I was waiting for one of the talking heads to mention the gender-segregated lines of voters. I'm still waiting.
Islam is the millstone.
Eqypt - Progressing to the 7th century.
Real progress would to choose a Republic as a form of government
I should have visited the pyramids when I had the chance...
"I should have visited the pyramids when I had the chance...."
I was thinking much the same thing, and Damascus, Baghdad, and Asia Minor as well.
But at least I was able to see London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Rome before they fell. And Dearborn.
Ancient Egyptian women were no doubt better treated and better respected than are todays Egyptian Muslim women...
"...and now that the people have spoken—empowering the Muslim Brotherhood and their Salafi henchmen—Egypt prepares to plummet headlong into a new dark age of primitivism."

Indeed. Very likely unfortunately.
And of course these Islamist forces, championed by the Muslim Brotherhood, not only approve of full-on Sharia law, they want Sharia. And they are going to demand and get Sharia, and it is going to get ugly. Do the “learned Western analyst’s” not see this inevitability coming down the pipe??
And who can blame “the slaves of allah” for wanting Sharia, after all - when the evil’s of Sharia are in fact nothing more than the product, the creation, the formulation of “Allahs” laws found in the Qur’an and Mad Moe’s Sunnah.
Much like Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc. etc., Egypt is likely irretrievably lost to Islam. Evil little Muhammad’s vicious cult of Islam is on the verge of fully swallowing up large tracts of partially Islamized North Africa. Tragic.
Sure as hell wouldn’t want to be a Muslim women stuck in one of those Islamic waste lands. Wouldn’t want to be stuck in those lands period. No chance for a secular civil society to take root. The more Islam that gets applied the worse things get…
That's the thing isn't it? People who lived in BC were more progressive than the Muslims! Therefore, Egypt is NOT REGRESSING to the SEVENTH CENTURY but EXTREMELY FARTHER BACK.
"Egyptian women: your new government will want you back in the kitchen"
(by Michael Weiss)

Ah, yes, that reminds me...
"Democracy has few values of its own: it is as good, or as bad, as the principles of the people who operate it. In the hands of a liberal and tolerant people, it will produce a liberal and tolerant government; in the hands of cannibals, a government of cannibals." - Norman Davies, Europe: A History p969
To the baha'i, the world is progressing according to their revelation. Once Jesus is dead and Issa has replaced him, only Baha'u'llah will be available as the salvation for the world..
"How the Veil Conquered Cairo University"
-Nonie Darwish interview (2010).

Instead of back to the future, its Ford into the Past! The sad thing is, the past was never actually as bad as the future is going to be. Even stone age cave men treated women better than Islam does.
At least once the leftists get what they want the Muslims will do to them what we should be doing and shutting them up for good.
Who said that civilization was two generations removed from savagery?
But of course Egypt is becoming more enlightened now that it has democracy. Democracy is the key here. Once these overwhelmingly Muslim societies get the right to vote once every four or so years the whole country suddenly becomes lovely.
Really lovely.
This is a scientific fact.
This time next year, if not sooner, Egypt will be identical to Switzerland. Except for the cheese of course.
Just look at the wonderful example of Iraq and Afghanistan.
And the Muslim Brotherhood are nice people too.
Viewing the Muslim lady in the tent unit, a sound argument for reverse evolution could be considered.
You mean "de-volution"? Time to break out the "Devo" albums!
At the current rate of devolution, I expect the Muslims to start walking around on all fours, grow tails, gills, and eventually return to the sea. Amen.
A very nice quote.
The irony is that perhaps the most famous phrase along those lines, "tyranny of the majority", comes from the US - I think.
Some of the naivety - from comments made by the US State Department, Presidency and Joe Public - about bringing democracy to countries like Iraq and Afghanistan were simply breathtaking.
What were they thinking?!?!?!
Hey guys,
I'm having a ball over on Youtube, debating 20-something Muslimas regarding the rights of women in Islam. It's on the TLC "All American Muslim" video of the wedding rehearsal. Some little deludenoid Muslima taqiya-myster named Half Blood Princess is lying up a storm but I've managed to give her a stroke. Would you consider stopping by and joining in the fun?
Wellington, where are you?

Regression? Progression?

Wonder where she got that cheap Nokia? Allah? Capitalists?

Omar: "Hey Finklestein!"
Finklestein: "Yeah, Omar - what now?"
Omar: "I bought my Black Moving Object a new cell phone and she doesn't know how to use it yet, and neither do I. What can I do, Jew?"
Finklestein: "Let me into the pyramid tonight with those "progressive" OWS chicks and I'll show you how to use it, Muslim."
:/
Cheap cell phone? Yes maybe, but David, her Hefty bag is from Nordstroms.
Yet Our Illustrious President, Barack Hussein Obama, holds the Muslim Brotherhood in high esteem, so it seems. He has done more than anyone else--not counting the tail that wags this (pardon the expression) dog--both over there (Pax Obamana was premiered in Cairo--Egypt, not Illinois--and over here, the USofA, with Ikhwanist operatives in the White House itself.
I went to the youtube link you provided, Isabella, and you don't need one bit of help; you're doing fine, just dandy. I noticed that yet another confused Muslim woman who responded to you asserted that taqiyya is a Shiite thing, not found in the Koran, but what about 3:28, which Raymond Ibrahim, among others, has argued is Koranic validation of Muslim deception?
Hope you're doing fine, Isabella. Certainly seems you're enjoying shooting Muslimas, I mean fish, in that barrel over at youtube. Ah, the Muslim rubes (and their silly dhimmi allies) are so easy to defeat in argument. It's like, well, shooting fish in a barrel. Take care, Isabella.
President Obama has done more than anyone to advance the Muslim Brotherhood and further its aims. He pronounced Pax Obamana in Cairo, Egypt, while he gave the Brotherhood a place in his own administration. He is either Useful Idiot-in-Chief, or the Manchurian Candidate.
THE BIG SWEEP
Just as Egypt under Mubarak was starting to emerge from the 19th along comes the Brethren, with the helping hand of Obama and western "progressives," to sweep it back into the Middle Ages.
Yes, the Mahometan Candidate, if you will. The candidate who CAIRs.
Well if the Brotherhood and the newly formed al-Qaida inspired An-Noor party establish an Islamic State... then I pray that the people of Egypt and their surrounding nations are delivered.
To the sea...? You mean where their leader Usama bin Laden is? I also heard he transformed into a green bird...
Only God knows.
I hope they've enjoyed their "one vote, one time".
On another thread I posted my assessment of the forthcoming Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood led "civil state" under inevitable Sharia, and someone else mentioned the Caliphate piece by piece falling into place.
The 'religious' police will keep everybody in line, from Morocco to Indonesia, as we're already seeing some of that in the nouveau Dal-al-Islam, starting with Saudi Arabia, Iran, even Sudan. It will come to Egypt too, and that's bad for the women especially. But the people had 'voted' with their beliefs, so now must face the reality of what that means: Under Sharia law "Now all can be punished by their divine laws equally", women and children first.
It's sad, at least to me, to see the Moslem world regress back to its Medieval paradigm, where modern notions of natural human rights simply don't exist. Whatever post-colonial secularism socio-economic benefits, education, science and technology, medicine, they enjoyed will now be ratcheted back hundreds of years. Rule-of-law will mean rule of religious theocracy dominated politics and use of state power to enforce Sharia law, what they call 'God's law' as opposed to human laws of social contract and natural social agreements written into a constitutional form of government. They will have to run the gamut with this, though it will be painful for them. I suspect 'humanitarian aid' will dry up soon, so they will have to go it alone. Our civilization will be impacted by this turn of events, of course, but it can be contained. We are far better able to handle change than they are. What will happen to 'feminist' liberation in the Caliphate states? They will go underground and suffer in silence, as their idiotic theocracies invent new ways to punish the weak and helpless. That is the sad reality, and no amount of Western empathy can help them now. They'll have to swim this alone, for our Western 'feminists' will fall silent on them. In short, by electing Sharia, they have closed themselves off from the modern world, as they seem to want to do. Isolationism in Dar-al-Islam may turn out for them very different from what they expected. But other than new threats against fortress Israel, we really should not care. It was their choice.
My personal sadness, having been to Egypt in the days when it was fun to visit, is that all those beautiful people, the descendants of one of the world's greatest civilizations, perhaps the fount of much of what we today believe, magnificence on a scale never again really duplicated, will now be enshrouded in a new Dark Age for the people. Will this slow down the 'dying' of Islam? No, I suspect they will one day wake up and realize what a colossal mistake they made, just like the young people of Iran know today, and it's Tahrir all over again. Vote in Sharia, and you are never to vote again, as your 'rights' are now defined by a theocracy that has the audacity to think it speaks for God. Big mistake. People must then knuckle under this new rule, and they will lament the loss of their humanity, short that they enjoyed it, in private hushed conversations… "Remember when…?" Omar Khayyam would break down in tears.
My vote? ... Thumbs down... "Regressing."
Thanks Wellington, my good friend. You're very kind. For a minute there my head was spinning but I've found with these gooberheads it's important to keep applying the facts and not to get stuck in defending myself. Curiously I've gone round and round with several Muslimas or pro-Muslims on that particular video for over a week now and they all drop off, one by one so I must be getting some points across. I'm doing it because so many people will have the potential to be snowed by that nauseating All American Snow job, er, I mean, Muslim that it's important to dispel their myths. Debbie Schlussel had something on her site last week about how Shadia's sister (the really smug chick who wears the elaborate hijabs and is th one on the first commercial telling us that she told some woman who was concerned she was on the plane with her to get off bitch because I'm going to a conference to teach people "like you") is actually an avowed Hamas and Hezbollah supporter and is affiliated with CAIR. She works in the court system (Oh joy!) up in Dearbornistan. So I think it is important to monitor those AAM clips and set the average dhimmi or uneducated-about-Islam American straight about what those guys are really doing.
Anyway, thanks for coming to my rescue, even if you think I didn't need it. I will do the same for you sometime.
I am well, hope you and yours are too. Love ya! Isabella
Just catching up with you from the other thread:
You can call yourself whatever you like, but as Isabella so aptly pointed out pro-freedom anti-jihad men ARE sexy. :)
I agree with Wellington that you're doing a grand job of refuting the vagina virgin's lies on jihadtube.
I'm on warning number two over there for my "inflammatory" posts.
Seems telling the truth on jihadtube is enough to get you banned.
Who would have thunk it?
The best way to tell if an islamic country or any country where muslims live is progressing or regressing is the number of women who are veiled or wearing the hijab.
Twenty years ago the hijab and veils were rare sights but the increase in their appearance correlates closely with the rise in power of the muslim brotherhood. When the muslim brotherhood comes to power so does theocracy and with theocracy more oppression & control of women. Add to that the fact that the hijab is the emblem of the muslim brotherhood and you have walking, talking bearers of the fact that muslim countries are regressing. What else could be expected from the followers of a 7th century warlord and a 7th century "religion"?
And while I'm at it, what's the point of protesting & fighting for democracy when you turn around and use it to elect an oppressive theocracy? Thus the duality and stupidity of islam and it's followers.
Thank you my dear. Sometimes I feel like I am hanging by my hair. I appreciate your support.
OXOXOXOX !
Exactly. What was all this "democracy" garbage during the "Arab Spring" in Egypt? Did the women over there really believe this would turn out well for them? With the Muslim Brotherhood pulling the strings, how the heck could it?
We need to be very vigilant here in America because I have a disturbing feeling that old Barack Hussein has the same plan for the rest of us.
Isabella,
What's your user name on YouTube? I've been trying to figure out which voice of reason is yours!
Isabella:
"Cheap cell phone? Yes maybe, but David, her Hefty bag is from Nordstroms."

Wow! I stand corrected. You have quite the eagle's eye for handbags. I wouldn't know the difference between Nordstrom's and the, "Nothing over a Dollar Store".
:/
Im No Dhimmi, let's just say I have been prolific in that comments section. I've posted more comments on there than anybody else so you'll be able to see it. I inadvertently revealed something about myself to you guys when I sent you over there, not that I don't trust you, it's just I don't trust the psychos. You'll see what I mean.
David, NO, NO, NO. It's not her handbag, silly goose. It's that trash bag she's wearing!
How long after the Islamic State of Egypt becomes established do you think it will take for the Mullahs to destroy the Pyramids and everything the whole world holds dear as part of the heritage of every woman and man in the world ? How long will it take for any sort of music to be banned from a mother's lullaby to a beloved Opera or symphony to vanish
from the public mind ? Dance of any type will become a matter for flogging or stoning. Will the world sit impotent as it did when the Buddas of Afghanistan were distroyed ? Will the UN
applaud these things for the sake of saving their cowardly backsides from the disapproval of the vaunted OIC, Hillary's favorite group ? When the beheading of Gays begins will they still
embrace their favorite crocodile and find excuses for it ? Will the Feminists under the leadership of Ms Steinem haul themselves up the Nile to chain themselves to the Sphinx ? Will we see vast numbers of OWS types from all over the world descend upon Cairo prepared to camp out precisely as they did in NYC, or La, or wil they light votive lights and exclaim their solidarity with the Muslim Brotherhood whom they are so fond of in its western incarnation, CAIR. Anybody want to start a pool ? I say 2 weeks.
Thats only cause he hopes they will enable him to shove the cow he married into a burka, relegate her to a closed compound to spend her days walking and cooking and cleaning like an Egyptian while he hangs out with the guys and discussing temporary marriages and the finer points of pitching and catching.
"David, NO, NO, NO. It's not her handbag, silly goose. It's that trash bag she's wearing!"

This is common throughout the Muslim world, Kepha—and goes hand in hand with wife-beating and the abuse of children.
A lot of this is elder abuse—especially given that many older Muslim men marry much younger women—sometimes even child brides.
These women often eventually wind up as caretakers for their elderly and disabled abusers. They either "get revenge" for their own abuse, or—even more commonly—as Muslims see no other model for taking out their frustrations.
Islam is absolutely savage to the weak and vulnerable in general—women, children, the disabled, the elderly—it is all of a piece, and it is all hideously ugly.
On a more general topic, remember Wael Ghonim—at one time the moderate, modern face of Egypt's "Facebook Revolution"—at least until he was literally driven out of the public square by the "Islamists"?
Here he is in a New York Times editorial:
"In Bleak Cairo, a Call for Optimism"
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/29/opinion/in-bleak-cairo-a-call-for-optimism.html
Ultimately, the poor man really has nothing substantive to say at all. This passage sums up his "reasoning":
"But I believe that anyone participating in effecting change cannot be a pessimist. This is why, when it comes to Egypt’s future, I am an optimist. Revolution is a process; its failure and success cannot be measured after only a few months, or even years. We must continue to believe."
He ends with this:
"Be optimistic: we are writing history."
Unfortunately, so are the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafists...
