Surprise! Egypt's military moves to portray detained protester as "woman of questionable morals"

Egyptian-army-soldiers-be-007.jpg
But the army's morals are clearly above reproach

That protester stepped out of line, and forfeited her right to "protection." Again: Muslims took to the streets, incited by state media, to "protect" the army from uppity Christians in the October 9 massacre. Now that soldiers have done this to a Muslim woman in an abaya, among numerous other abuses of protesters, how do they like their army now?

First they came for the Christians. More on this story. "Egypt's military lashes out at protesters," by Hamza Hendawi and Maggie Michael for the Associated Press, December 19:

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's ruling military sought to discredit the pro-democracy movement Monday, portraying a detained protester as a woman of questionable morals, accusing a prominent publisher of incitement and alleging the media is trying to sabotage the country.

Blaming Israel or "foreign hands" is probably not far behind.

The verbal attacks by a member of the ruling military council came hours after troops in riot gear swept through Cairo's Tahrir Square before daybreak, opening fire on protesters and lobbing tear gas into the crowds. At least three people were killed, pushing the death toll from four days of street clashes to 14.
Over the past few days, the military has dealt with the protesters much more roughly than at any other time since the ouster of Hosni Mubarak in a popular uprising 10 months ago. The military took power after Mubarak stepped down.
"The ruling military council doesn't believe in the revolution," said newly elected lawmaker and activist Mustafa el-Naggar.
The crackdown may reflect the military's fury over the activists' distribution of videos showing soldiers bludgeoning women and other protesters. The weak showing of the pro-democracy movement in the parliamentary elections that began last month may have also emboldened the military.
Maj. Gen. Adel Emara, a member of the ruling council, showed videos at a news conference clearly aimed at discrediting those involved in the protest movement.
One image was designed to raise questions about a female detainee's morals. It showed the woman talking about her husband, then later saying she was not married to her partner. Sex outside marriage is considered gravely immoral in conservative, mostly Muslim Egypt.

It is not clear from this report whether the woman pictured above is the one targeted for defamation here.

Another video showed a young man in detention saying that prominent publisher Mohammed Hashem was using his Cairo office near Tahrir as headquarters for an "incitement ring," distributing free food, helmets and gas masks to protesters.
Hashem is a leftist credited with publishing young novelists and poets whose works have become literary landmarks in Egypt. His Merit publishing house is a gathering place for young, left-leaning intellectuals.
Hashem told an online news service that he plans to sue the military for defamation and that he is proud to offer protesters protection against tear gas and bullets.
In footage Emara said was taken by the military, men appeared to be rejoicing over setting a government building ablaze. Other images showed a male protester romantically embracing a young woman as they sat on a sidewalk....

And this justifies stripping and stomping on them?

Unfortunately, the effect of Islam on any society in which it takes root is to promote anarchy, mob rule and the emergence of fanatical religious thugs and tribal warlords.

In the end, the most organized, best equipped and disciplined group of thugs will take over. This is usually the army.

Islam and democracy are utterly incompatible.

My take is much more conspiratorial:
The army leadership knows that the Islamists will take over. In order for the military leaders to ingratiate themselves with the coming regime, they have agreed to do the dirty work for the Islamists and get rid of the rabble rousers. The military takes the smear and the Islamists ride in, restore order and impose universl muslim rights and values.

Boycott Sharia sesame seeds.

....which of course to these perverted devil worshippers means she must be raped, stoned, beheaded (slowly of course) and then raped some more.........

For some reason they can never get seem to get enough rape.

In the pious stretches of Dar-al-Islam, it sure does.

We've seen this before—Tehran, thirty years ago.

Houshang Asadi in his book "Letters to My Torturer", describes a scene in which he is visited by his wife on what he believes was to be the day before his execution.

The pair say a loving, tearful farewell.

A fellow prisoner later admits his frank confusion over the scene. Asadi is a Communist, and his fellow prisoner had been told that Communist women were all whores who sleep with any party member who wants to bed them and that they never have any love for their husbands.

Asadi tells him that if anything, there is more love between
Communist couples, because they do not practice arranged and forced marriages. (Please note: I am *no* fan of Communism, but Asadi is right here. And he does in fact have has a very close, loving marriage. It was the efforts of his wife, in fact, in seeking out his old cell-mate Ayatollah Khamenei at considerable risk to herself that ultimately saves his life).

The scenario is *exactly* the same, though—an "Islamist" government discrediting leftists or democratic activists for their supposedly loose, "un-Islamic" morals.

Note: the woman in the picture above *was wearing an abaya*, Apparently even *this* is not modest enough if the woman in question is out in the streets speaking her mind.

And, of course, no one looks "modest" after being stripped in the street by armed soldiers...

Nice analysis graven:
Universal muslim rights and values must prevail over all other values. Ergo, muslims are not humans.

OT
Islam is of the devil:
Islam is proof that GOD (good) exists because Islam (evil) is the DEVIL on the march.

Use of a negative to faith a positive. My best and only proof as to the existence of God.

n.a. palm:
Rape in Islam is, at worst, nothing more than a gender clash.
If the victim is an infidel, then it is a sectarian clash.
For the true Musloid, rape is doing honor to the victim.
If rape is done to an animal, it means discount meat for the next village.

Ooops.
My best and only "nutshell" proof as to the existence of God.

Has anyone noticed that these muslim majority countries, where there are "religious" police or "vice and morality" squads are among THE MOST violent and repressive societies on earth. Why is this so? Hmmmm, could it be because of Isalm?

Hey, Arab Springers.........betcha Hosni Mubarak is looking pretty good now, eh?

Morons!

Thanx, Pokermutt.

I'm warding off a nasty case of the flu, and working on your idea, "Forces of Jihad". Will have it ready to go (hopefully!) before the new year...

just on a sidenote: being alone in the flat of an unmarried man carries a prison sentence in Egypt. Extramarital relationships of course are illegal. When we were not married my wife and I could not stay in Egyptian hotels together: we had to rent two rooms. Egypt has always been much worse than the press made it.

I'm typing between bouts of nose blowing and sipping hot tea. I felt a bit odd about being sick, since this is one of the warmer parts of the country right now.

But David, you got sick even down in sunny Mexico. It's no fun wherever you are, that's for sure.

Hope you feel better soon. I'm still enjoying the season, though—hope you are, as well!

By the way, if I'd been feeling better, I probably would have celebrated Las Posadas in the Mission District last week. I grew up one neighborhood over, and was living here in this part of San Francisco when I met my husband.

Feliz Navidad!

That's good, GI. Thanks for the warm wishes. Been an unusually cold autumn here with days of heavy, periodic rain and record-low temps., but with absolutely stunning early-mornings over the desert!

Glad you're feeling better. Think I'm over the hump this morning. Bad luck to be sick on vacation, though.

M.Xmas :-) :-)
